Merchandise is in clean, orderly manner. Employees seem helpful and are visible throughout the store. Prices are reasonable especially with their discounts.
I had a horrible first, and probably last, experience here today. My husband and I decided to quickly check out the store roughly ten minutes before it closed because we had never been to a ReStore before. We had no intention of buying anything today, we just wanted to poke our heads in to see if it was a store that we would visit in the future. As I reached to grab the door handle to enter, a brunette female employee wearing glasses (I didn’t catch her name, otherwise I would have used that) barged out of the door (almost hitting me with it), yelled “we’re closing in five minutes,” and proceeded to storm off.We had roughly nine minutes until closing and were acutely aware of the time prior to entering. Her demeanor was extremely poor and unprofessional. I hope she has a serious attitude change if she continues to work in retail, because judging from our experience today, it seems like she’s probably driving away more business than she creates, if any.
Today I discovered that the Re-Store only wants your stuff if they can sell for high dollars. The customer service at the dock to donate was terrible. I had to bring my item all the way to the dock and as soon as I put it on the dock I hear a voice, “No, thank you.” The kid had not even looked at the item. Probably 20 years old says it’s not good enough. It’s free. Sell for 10 bucks for all I care. Ridiculous. They didn’t even ask if I had anything else to donate. The chairs were not in bad shape. They just didn’t want to take the time to check things out.
So their website says they take appliances up to 10 years old.... they lie... we went to all the trouble of getting a matched Kenmore washer and dryer set in good condition about 6 years old in the truck and to the store in rockville... the guy there never looked at them except from a distance and said nope we only take appliances under 4 years old. So sad in todays environment they could have gotten a lot of money for them.
Great customer attention,good prices
OK here’s the deal… Staff is friendly, the variety and cleanliness are top shelf. Here’s the downside the prices are ASTRONOMICAL! (The light fixtures and brass hardware are actually reasonably priced). I feel like you could go to TJ Maxx and get the same deals on new items. They do have a stack of free items you can take, which is nice. So I suppose I’m not as stoked about this location as the other Habitat Restores I’ve been to.
Bad service as a vollenteer manager rude not recomended to vollenteer.
I have a suggestion: please post your donation drop off times outside and not cover it up completely and then have your employees be rude about it and I’ll tell you why:Part of your business model relies on (free) donations from patrons where you turn around and resell the items for profit. When you are rude to these patrons and you don’t even have a proper drop off time/sign and your patrons drive out of their way to drop things off, in the future they won’t drive here, it would be easier to just trash the items. Thanks
Very friendly staff makes a huge difference! I stopped by just to pickup some free pallets and I was lost, but the staff were very friendly and directed me to Lenard (not sure how to spell name). I could tell Lenard was friendly because the customers in front of me seemed to enjoy and laugh along while they were checking out with her. When it came to my turn, Lenard made it a point to escort me to the proper area of the store, complimented a customers outfit along the way, and insisted in knowing my name, even if I was there just for a moment. Ive noticed that Covid has turned many store workers colder, but not in this Habitat for Humanity ReStore. Kudos to friendly staff members who made my day. The only reason I rated 4 stars was because I didnt actually purchase anything from the store so I didnt get the full experience. (Otherwise I wouldve definitely given 5!) Also, because I know people prefer to read 4 star reviews over 5 stars. Anyways, thank you Habitat for Humanity for restoring my faith in Humanity (pun intended).
Lots of stuff to rummage through, friendly and helpful staff. A little confused by pricing, as some stuff did not have a price. All in all Id go back again and again.
Very disappointing old women, wen she see me interested in buying Vanity Makeup Dressing Table which was priced $155 she approached and said it is over priced then she took the price tag off and I asked her why she said she will reprice it when some one come and told me the price should increase to $250 because I am a black women she didnt even think I also someone who is asking her to buy the furniture. Very raciest and disappointing women.
This store is not like other Re-Stores. Their pricing strategy is insanely bad. All fueniture seems to be anywhere from 75-100+% of new. I can see selling a used couch for 75% of new if its in pristine condition but most things have obvious damage. Were headed to the Laurel location now.
The treasures youll find! This mission driven shopping resources always has something for me. Whether its a few ball jars or a beautiful brand new chair. Pricing on the new furniture is fantastic. Some of the pricing on the very used furniture can be high, but the staff help and selection make up for that. I much prefer this than dealing with Facebook marketplace.
This Restore is AWFUL! I have been to many of these stores around the country and this one is the worst. The prices are gouged beyond belief. One example was an air compressor that I know to sell for $99 at Home Depot listed for $135. That is just one. All over the store is junk and beat up furniture listed at way more than any reasonable person should be paying. Seeing elderly people walking around to look at things in this store made me furious to think that they could be scammed out of their money by this stores tactics. This store should be ashamed of themselves. This business was designed to help people not steal from them. Read the other comments for this store and you will see that these are not just my opinions, but the feelings of many who visit this store.
I have bought so many pieces of furniture from this store, but even still, can never get any special deals on anything. I think thats nuts. Over the years I have spent at least $1000 here, but unless something has been discounted, I still have to pay the marked price. This does not encourage me to return. I wish the management would read the comments here and realize that most of the posts mention the high prices and the unpleasant attitudes of the staff. Beyond that, I do like the place.
They are a great place to donate. keep in mind that everybody and their cousin is cleaning out their house because they are stuck at home because of the pandemic. So they are very busy, so please be understanding and kind. Also, please consider volunteering for intake because they are understaffed. A great way to use some of the extra time you have because of the pandemic!
Always great treasures to find here!
I love to shop and browse here. You never know exactly what theyre going to have, so you might find what youre looking for, or you might not. Thats how it is with this kind of store. If you dont see it one week, come back next week and it just might be there. Ive bought a few items here (like a tool that I was only going to use once) and the prices are usually pretty darn good for used products. They often offer store-wide discounts as well.
This place is cool. Its like Goodwill and Salvation Army. The people take donations of peoples old belongings and sell them in the store so that other people can buy them.
Its a great way to give back to those
Every time I come here, I cant get over how obnoxiously over priced everything is. I think they must guess the original price and then add a 10% premium.
Habitat is a great resource when you are improving or adding to your home. I stop by every few weeks, just to see what they get in. Parking is free, and they always have special discount days! They carry furniture, hardware, lighting, pictures, plumbing, and cabinets. They even get in tools and lawn equipment!
I love ReStore. Its a great way to get some great deals on good quality furniture. The stock moves quickly so if you dont see anything you like one day, you can go back a week or two later and see different stuff.
Dont buy DVDs as they charge 2 dollars per disc not 2 dollars per DVD like their sign says. So a 3 disc DVD set will cost 6 bucks. IF I DIDNT JUST GET RIPPED OFF THEN FIX YOUR SIGN to say PER DISC. Other than that Id say the store is really hit or miss sometimes you might find something and other times all youll see is overpriced junk. I personally like Columbia, MD restore better.
Ive donated here, and that was pretty straightforward. However, from a buying standpoint, the prices are too high. Its because they use eBay to price items. I have seen them do it when I needed a price before. They look up the items in question on eBay and then price stuff based on what they see the items listed for there. And in my case, they lost the sale, because they asked too much for it.
Great place great place to shop for great deals
Its a nice store! You found all the appliances in this at reasonable price. Dont look to the negative reviews, just come and visit. You will see. Customer services is awesome. Highly Recommended.
Today my husband and I loaded and tried to donate a bedroom suite. The store was under staffed. While I waited for an associate to get a approving manager to say yes to our furniture..I hear a guy and woman walking to the back door. The whole time he was complaining. Then said well it doesnt matter what it is Im not breaking my back and taking it so Ill be telling them I cant sell it. The woman said heres the customer. He was shocked I heard him. He was extremely rude, disrespectful and like he said didnt take our furniture. Some type of manager he was ...I definitely wont be supporting that store or donating again. Awful attitude.
This location is chock full of treasures and treatments for every individual who wishes to improve or restore ones living space, regardless of decorating style. A handypersons heaven on Earth! There is so much to experience, too much for a single visit. Well be heading back later in the week, with a fully charged cellphone, to provide a fuller range of their stock. It changes daily!
Whoever is pricing appliances and building materials is way out of line especially on the high end appliances, you can not negotiate the price. You would think they would want to move their inventory quicker high end or low end after all it is all donated and it is positive cash flow with exception of their labor and overhead. You can find more reasonable prices at Goodwill or Salvation Army, but on the upside the staff is pleasant and the new place is very organized.
A worthy place to donate hardware, tools, furniture and housewares. They do not accept clothes. Use your discount certificate from you donation to buy a nice used item from their eclectic inventory. A must stop for do-it-yourselfers and/or treasure hunters!
This store needs to understand 3 basic principles of selling used donated goods. Bargaining will increase the turnover of merchandising. Merchandising is important even for building materials. People know whether prices are in line with other sources.
A few years ago prices were very competitive and appealing. Now everything is sold with a premium tag, almost not worthy and better get a new one at retail price
I came here to volunteer. The staff couldnt care less for any volunteer and are very polarizing. If you need volunteer hours, take my advice and look somewhere else! Now, the prices on these secondhand donated items, are simply outrageous. There was a cabinet with heavy signs of wear listed for $75.00...you can probably get a better deal on a new one.
This Habit for Humanity ReStore has a lot of the standard thrift store items like furniture, dishware, toys, and housewares. The ReStore is different because it carries fixtures, and home repair items. If you need doorknobs or faucets, this is the place. Theres a kids korner with a few toys and a lot of books. Interesting collection of educational games.
They have some unique items, a good selection of wood furniture pieces, a small toy section and lots of kids books. Its well organized and doesnt have that thrift store smell and congestion. Prices are a bit high compared to regular thrift stores.
I almost did not stop by the store after reading the reviews. However, I am so glad that I did. The store has a huge variety of items some of which I are not carried by other thrift stores. Went in on Saturday during a sale. I was greeted at the door and given a sale flyer of sales for that day. I will be comiing back again and recommending the store to my friends.
Awesome finds.
This location is wonderful, with a decent in and out off of Gude Dr. Plenty of selection with things constantly coming in and of course right back out the door! The staff is friendly and helpful enough, but dont be surprised if they arent the ones to offer help moving things around. The biggest thing that is a problem with this location is the loading area is EXTREMELY tight! Dont try and park in the loading area if you are worried about damaging your vehicle on bollards or concrete barricades.Ill be returning and would recommend to anyone!
This place is like a Hit or Miss. You never know what you will find here in the way of furniture and lighting. The rows of new unused cabinetry and bathroom tubs, sinks and fixtures is awsome. The pricing is a little iffy though hence the 4 stars not 5. Some of the items are a score and some of it is priced full retail or more. It is worth the effort to keep coming back. Dont miss the sign at the front door for the special colored tag discounts for the day.
Great place to find a item for your home that needs a little love. Money goes to a great cause. I love the new digs in the new space that they have off of Gude. Much more organized and easy to get through.
I like to come here to find material for projects. Staff and team members are great and always willing to help but I question their methods in pricing out the goods. I’ve found that their items are over priced and can some times be bought new for cheaper. I have actually seen a few items with the original stickers and it was a 1/3 cheaper new.I like their mission but they need to re-evaluate their pricing method.
Clean, well kept, and a wide variety. Stopping by every few weeks has always paid off. Sometimes requires a second look to find things, but thats just part of the game!Recommended.
Today was my first time here and I was incredibly impressed by the selection and prices. Was looking for a rocking chair for my classroom and decided on a reasonable one for $43. When I took it to the register it was only $22.50! Man, that made my day. I will be back for sure :)
Very helpful staff and the 3 stars are all for them! This Restore charge prices like the items are brand new. I love Restores but this one, which is closest to my home, is so cost prohibitive that I dont like visiting them. I usually continue to travel to Anne Arundel Or Howard Counties to find items and projects for myself and reasonable prices.
Everything is much more expensive than even purchasing the same thing brand new. Its like it pretends its a high end antique store, but without the quality. The staff were also a little snobby and did not seem too willing to help.
Good stuff if you are handy and into remodeling or reupholstery. Much of the items are old and need to be refurbished. Nevertheless the money is for a good cause.
The store is very organized and items are easy to find. But I think the items are way overpriced compared to their target audience. And when the original price tag is still on the item and youre charging double u may want to lower your prices or at least take the original tag off. They have some very lovely antiques and collectibles but they dont belong in this store. It just makes the shopper very uncomfortable and feel like your situation is so much worse than it really is. Because if u cant even afford to shop in a thrift store where can u shop? People going through hardships need encouragement and need to feel like they are able to provide for their family. They wont get it here. I dont. The only reason I visit this store is because they have one section where all of the items are free. But dont expect anyone to help you load them into your vehicle. Im disabled and although I backed my truck up to the loading dock and told someone i was outside, nobody came to help. So, I did it myself and cried the entire time. But if you need something and you dont have a dollar to your name youd be surprised at what u will do. And I already suffer from chronic pain so does it really matter? Ill just suffer a little more. But if you have a lot of time to spend you may find a great deal. Its a place at least worth checking out.
This place used to be AWESOME! I furnished my entire house in 2007 for very reasonable prices. At some point the management changed and the prices SKYROCKETED! I still visit occasionally just to buy small stuff, but its not at all uncommon to find old broken items with prices higher than brand new at home depot. I have seen old worn broken furniture (non-antique) listed for $400. That would have been $50 at the old restore. Im guessing some stuff sells or else they would have dropped the prices already, but it really bothers me that they get everything for free and somehow think its ok to sell it for top dollar. If you read this, Gaithersburg Restore, think about this: Lower prices means things sell faster, means inventory changes over more often, meaning more people come more often to see what is new and they buy more because the prices are low. High prices means you make more when you sell things, but that happens less frequently and so the inventory sits longer and people are less likely to come often because it will look the same from one week to the next.My advice is to go back to thrift-store pricing, not boutique pricing. I have spoken to many people who talk about Restore as a place that used to be awesome.Just my two cents.
They have a nice selection of furnishings and nicknacks as well as lots of furniture since they moved to a larger place but all the building materials and such are still mostly unpriced.
Lots of variety but this place is WAY OVERPRICED! 1990s electronics that should be in the mid $90 range going for HUNDREDS of dollars!! CDs are 2 for 1, so my son found a few things...that was good. Furniture is all in the hundreds.....just WAY OVERPRICED for about 95% of the store.
I have been here a couple times (they recently moved To Rockville this March 2016) and the store was clean, the prices seemed comparable to other thrift stores in the area (I only checked the furniture in the back), very organized, nice people helping. I like they have furnishings, but also reclaimed wood, doors, windows, tools and appliances :) As for the people helping out, well they are volunteers and not many of them, so bear that in mind. I did not see anything stacked improperly and their E Gude Dr location is sizable.
The people there were very helpful with my purchases, and with assisting loading them onto my truck.
They advertise that everything is 75% off retail. Ive been at this location several times and at their previous location and the prices are ridiculously high. Either they dont price check to accurately place a salable price on items or theyre looking at the highest asking prices from Ebay sellers. They need to check prices on completed sales. In addition to the crazy high prices, some of the employees are rude and unwilling to help. I appreciate them employing special needs people and I find them to be pleasant. I wish I had some positive things to say about this place because they have a great space and they get their goods free, and yet they choose to make shopping there a very unpleasant experience.
Good place to browse for old stuff that can be recycled. Also, a good place to donate usable items that others can find useful other than ending up in landfills.
Lats of odds ends .... fun to walk through .... I havent found that gold nuget yet! But I still love looking around!
Nice merchandise but much higher priced than other Restores in the surrounding areas. Prices should be consistently marked from location to location.
Do not waste your time here. Retail prices for beat up used junk. They seem to think they are an antique store.
This place is great if youre looking for second hand furniture, tools, or even music (cds, records). Their prices are very affordable.
Whomever is doing the pricing here is out of their mind. This is a thrift shop not an antique store. Theres an African American woman who is the one pricing too high, so make sure never to ask her for a price. Just because its online on sites like eBay does not mean prices here should be the same. And the quality of the items are not that great to begin with! Not sure how they even stay in business.
Dropped off donations. This time they asked for the estimated value. We had no idea so we said to forget it. Apparently, this is something new from the tax law. Thought Id put it out there.
WAY OVER PRICED! DO NOT DONATE. stuff they got for free theyre selling at more than the cost of new. One employee talking about how another store did 40K thats day and theyre only at 2K and how they need to bump up some prices to compete. Will never shop this place. Its a rip off for used stuff. Saw one shelf for $350. went to target and saw one very similar for $159 without all the scratches and chips
Things seemed a bit overpriced.
I wish I could have purchased an absolutely beautiful little secretary that I saw - as it was, I was able to find several things for good prices that I needed.
Well organized and friendly store. Good selection of tools, cupboards, furniture, paint, and household goods.
Cashier was having a conversation while I was ready to pay at the register, I waited 3 minutes till the person she was talking to told her someone was waiting. Also their prices are twice higher than the stores in Alexandria. Not sure if they are pricing things to sell or not.
There is always something beneficial you can find there for cheap!
Good selection, prices are a bit too high for used goods
Great place for furniture...some of the hone decor items like frames are priced higher than expected
Teen volunteers were very helpful. Excellent customer service.
The girl with the blue hair and super long nails seemed annoyed when I asked how to differ the sizes of the head boards. She is can give you a measuring tape. Lol, ok . Then she pointed out that it was $275. As if I couldnt afford it. First it was dented and scratched. What would first make you think I would want that and second the audacity for it to be so much. Everything in there was high. Its donated merchandise. Come on.
I love the idea of reusing materials, its greener alternative to landfill... But this store is way overpriced! They had a simple blush nickel faucet for sale for $60 without all the installation attachments. When I asked for a discount, I got a dirty look and a lecture how they can not discount items. The sales person looked burden that she had give me this explanation. I went down to the Home Depot around the corner and found something similar yet new for a under $50 -in box, with instructions and all screws. They had a small vanity cabin that the veneer was peeling off it - it was also $50, should have been no more the $20. If they receive these ideas for free as donation why such a high charge? BTW - I was there to help someone who is in need and on lower socio-economic spectrum and the whole experience was disgusting. This Habitat for Humanity needs to read their mission statment and price their items way lower.
Good place to find furniture to fix up, scrap wood, and used tools. Prices arent great for the condition, but hella cheaper than new.
MISINFORMATION! Wanted to donate dozens new and used compact fluorescent lightbulbs to the Rockville ReStore. Their website said (and still says) they accept compact fluorescent lightbulbs. They confirmed over the phone they accept compact fluorescent lightbulbs. Based upon this website and phone confirmation with the Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Rockville, I made a special trip to donate several dozen CF bulbs, but when I arrived they emphatically told me they do NOT accept compact fluorescent lightbulbs. So I instead took them to the dump. Please don’t rely on what they say over the phone or put on the website.
Tons of good and practical items. Good place to donate.
I love the Re-store and love buying there to support the cause -BUTthis one is WAYYYY overpriced - and you can tell by the fact that the dressers and credenzas are stacked on top of each other. This store is mismanaged severely. The goal is to sell stuff at fair prices and generate money for Habitat for Humanity - instead this particular store elects to operate as if they are a high end antique store. If they had a better understanding of how to price used items - they would sell more and not have the tremendous inventory that sits and stacks up for month after month !Not only with the vintage stuff - but also with newer stuff - I tried to buy a pair of faucet hoses there recently and they priced them above what they sell for new at Lowes !!!!PLEASE - get real and sell some stock so that customers can actually browse your merchandise without being in danger of getting trapped under a stack of dressers !
Ive donated here before. I cant say the experience was super pleasant, but the drop off was easy and efficient.
Place has lots of good stuff, but the price is almost double what you pay im home depo store. Some of the prices are very high!!
The staff and volunteers are wonderful. New stuff to peruse everyday.
Some items are much more expensive than anyone can find online or local stores. Better to check the retail price first then compare, since there is no return.
If you are looking for nice housewares or tools at thrift store prices, this is the place for you.
Very nice store. Clean and customer service is great as well.
Great help with donation. Nice folks God bless.
I faced a bit of a delay unloading furniture from a rented truck because the only open loading dock was unloading another truck. Otherwise the process was simple and professional.
Price are stupid high! I thought I was in Macys. Just to high for used donated items! $100 for a broken 1980s picture come on! Not in this life. Who ever is pricing these items is crazy!
The prices of this thrift store are way too high. Its a second hand store and they price items like they are new. Most of the furniture is pretty beat up which isnt there fault but price it accordingly! The building supplies and appliances are too high. I looked at the prices for tile. It was cheaper for a new box at Home Depot. And you can go to Lowes and get one of their scratch and dent model for cheaper than here. The rule is if you go there, verify prices on the internet. It feels like this place is trying to gauge you. So beware!
Very good selection of not overly used household items
Not even worth it if you run across bad management.
The store has a good selection but the prices are sky high. Most building supplies in decent condition are more expensive then home depot.
Poor poor customer service cashier needs training. Rude and so does manager. Walk away from customer with a concern and refuse to cash out customer. Unsatisfactory
Lots of cool finds every time I visit!
How many times did you need half a two-by-four and a piece of plywood for a quick project? Its so wasteful to get a whole one from Home Despot, and throw away the unused pieces---or go to Humanity Restore and recycle!
Quick and easy in and out. Good cause!
Great selection of books.
The manager is RUDE. One of her employees told me I could get the sale price on one of their items but when I got to the cash register the manager told me she would not honor what her employee said. Then didnt want to give me a refund for an item I just bought and it didnt work when I asked them to check it before I left the store. On top of that their prices are too high for used items. I WILL NEVER SHOP AT THIS STORE EVER AGAIN!
Great cause but the re-store is priced as retail. I will still shop there but my buying might not be as much as I usually do.
Unique furniture and decor at budget prices for a good cause
