I was really excited for this shop. We were greeted and set up for our appointment as soon as we walked through the door and they were very accommodating for my handicapped mother. But the selection while I was there was not what I had expected, as I am from out of town and was there shopping with my family I understand that due to the nature of this shop that dresses go in and out regularly. If you are from the Salem area it would be a good place to make another appointment and don’t be discouraged if your first visit doesn’t pan out. The woman helping us made it clear that she gets new gowns regularly. She was very friendly and helpful with all my dress questions and concerns even making some recommendations and dress suggestions for alterations to make me more comfortable. Overall it was a wonderful experience and a neat little shop.

Love Shabby Chic!Making appointments online is so easy. The women who runs the place is extremely helpful, friendly, funny, and knowledgeable!I love that it’s a local consignment shop in Salem. I went two times to try to find my wedding dress but just couldn’t find “the one” even though there was a variety of options both times. I had a good time with both experiences though and like the atmosphere a lot. There are only three dressing rooms with plenty of light, fun decor, and seating options for friends/family with you. This past weekend, my Maid of Honor and I went to look for her bridesmaid dress and got the first one we liked! Fantastic being able to get it second hand because it was half off the online price, supported the local place, and reduced waste of a new dress in the market.I recommend Shabby Chic to anyone looking for wedding dress or wedding party dress!

I had my appointment last month, January 2021. Going into the appointment I was absolutely stoked to see their dress selection, and to meet the staff, as I had seen only GLOWING reviews online. However, once I arrived at the boutique I was met with a far worse atmosphere. My mom and I got to my appointment and waited for 10 minutes to be seen, we waited on another bride (not a big deal at all). But, we were ignored until finally someone asked what my name was.My mom and I browsed through the dresses, in my size and not. We were simply admiring the work and beauty of these amazing dresses. I was absolutely appalled at what one of the members the staff said to me; “you don’t want to hurt your feelings by looking at dresses that won’t ever fit, do you?” I was shocked at how rude, and disrespectful this woman was!I would not recommend this shop to anyone, not only was this staff member utterly disrespectful, but there was zero customer service! We did everything ourselves. If you’re a woman above the size 10 in dresses, I would advise to not waste your time here. It is very possible you will be body shamed by the staff. I am truly disappointed!

This was my first and only store I went to go dress shopping in Jan 2017. It wasnt open at the time and it seemed fairly new at the location. My mom and I were peaking in getting a better view as we waited. I do remember the lady was a bit late, but that didnt matter I was too excited. I forgot who helped me, but she was so friendly and positive. I got an used Daves Bridal that I loved at first sight. They did help me find other dresses just in case. It was very beautiful material and the price was about right. Might think to sell it back :)

READ THIS REVIEW!I debated about writing this review for months, but ultimately felt like I should share my experience with The Shabby Chic and, more importantly, their seamstress.I should start by saying that The Shabby Chic itself was absolutely wonderful. It was the third bridal shop I had went to that day and ended up being where I bought my wedding dress from. My group was the only group in the shop during my appointment, and we had a consultants undivided attention the entire time. We had independence to browse dress racks ourselves, but the consultant also made a few suggestions and brought out a few dresses herself. I never felt pressured by the consultant to just hurry up and pick one or felt like my thoughts on the dresses she brought out werent heard and considered. When I decided on my wedding dress, the consultant was able to give me multiple discounts due to small flaws in the dress (it was used, of course), which I really appreciated. Altogether I just spent around $550 on a dress that was originally well over $1,000, which Id say is a steal (not to mention that the consultant gave me a congratulatory gift bag, too)!I wanted to get alterations done for those small flaws I mentioned, so the consultant recommended I use the in-shop seamstress (Mary Hafner). I couldnt find any information/reviews about her online, but the consultant trusted her, so I went with it. That is where I went wrong. Right off the bat, this seamstress seemed unfriendly and coarse. At both of my fittings, which happened mid-May and mid-June, she was not wearing a mask (which doesnt bother me, but seemed completely unprofessional, given the COVID-19 pandemic). When I gave her my thoughts on what Id like altered, she was kind of pushy about what she thought would be best, almost like she didnt consider what Id requested. (Granted, a lot of what she said was based off of her experience as a seamstress, but she also changed my mind about what I wanted my veil to look like, which wasnt cool.) I tried to let this feeling of uncertainty roll off my shoulders by thinking, This seamstress apparently has a lot of experience, so even if she rubs me the wrong way, I should just trust in her skills, but I was WRONG. (For background knowledge: My dress is mermaid-style with intricate beading on the bodice and a tulle skirt.) There were MULTIPLE errors in my dress when I received it back. There was a noticeable rip near the zipper on the side of the bodice. The bodice was supposed to be close-fitting, but the zipper VERY EVIDENTLY bunched up near my hip, visible in all of my wedding pictures showing that side of my body. The zipper itself would not go past a certain point without SIGNIFICANT pulling. The bra cups added into the dress were poorly sewn (like, I couldve done a better job if Id done it myself). I asked for beading on the edge of my veil and there was none. Mind you, the impression the seamstress gave me at our initial fitting was that the dress/veil would be nothing but flawless in the end; in fact, multiple of the issues I listed above we SPECIFICALLY talked about fixing at my initial fitting. The seamstress also had more than enough time to fix these issues-- I bought my dress early March, my initial fitting was mid-May, I received my dress back mid-June, and I got married late-August. My mom and I ended up calling the seamstress back and asking her about these issues. She gave us excuses in response-- You have no idea how long I spent on your dress, I worked on that for such a long time and thats as good as its going to get, I cant fix that because the fabric is too fine, things of that nature. She eventually agreed to take the dress back and spend some more time on it, but I noticed no difference. I PAID OVER $600 ON THESE ALTERATIONS. COMPLETELY frustrating. If there is one thing a bride should not feel on her wedding day, that would be disappointment about her wedding dress. I most definitely did.Altogether, Id give The Shabby Chic 5/5 stars, and Mary Hafner 0/5 stars.

Having come from a horrible, no touching, unhelpful and rushed experience at Davids Bridal I was dreading to continue shopping elsewhere. There was a lot of trepidation when I walked into Shabby Chic. I was greeted cheerfully by Kara, the owner, and told that I could touch the dresses and pick out whatever I wanted to try. It was like being a kid in a candy store! Every dress I tried on Kara would come and adjust it with clips and give me options on alterations and changes. I could walk around and stay in front of the mirror as long as I wanted. There was no rushing me out the door. It is a relaxed and wonderful atmosphere, with great service, and amazing prices. You will be happy that you went to Shabby Chic...I know I am as I said yes to the dress!!

I’m so grateful I found this little boutique! After two appointments that consisted of no dress touching/looking/shopping attempts and about 7 hours of wasted time at David’s Bridal, I was feeling so disappointed at the minimal selection my daughter was allowed to have in her attempt to find the dress that spoke to her. So in a last attempt trip before facing the unappealing idea of having to go to Portland to find a dress, I drove my daughter to this adorable boutique. The experience there was perfect! She got to look at ALL the dresses, touch the fabric, hold the dress to see how heavy/light it would be to wear, look at the colors, designs and shapes. Her previous shopping attempts were void of all these little, but important moments that allowed HER to pick the dress she wanted, not the person working at the store. And because of this, she found her wedding dress at this adorable boutique. She stood on their bridal platform beaming and doing half circle turns as she reveled in the happiness of finding the right dress. If your looking for the right dress, and you want an experience that’s traditional and personal, go to The Shabby Chic Boutique and give this little business a chance to serve your bride.

I had an amazing experience in this shop! First of all, the location itself is so bright and inspiring -- not at all like most vintage clothing experiences. Secondly, the service was amazing from the moment I walked in until I walked out the door. This shop has a massive selection of gowns at incredibly reasonable prices. I am already married, but shopping at The Shabby Chic Bride made me wish I could get married all over again. Go this bridal shop first before you try others -- is my strong recommendation!

I had the best experience at The Shabby Chic! I am plus size and was nervous the selection for a dress would be slim. I go in for my appointment and Cara pulled about 5 dresses for me to try on. I had not found my dress yet, and to my excitement she pulled out another 5 or 6. I tried them all on and found the one for me. Cara, the owner, was so friendly and helpful. She talked with us like she really loved being there to help brides find their perfect dress. She recommended a seamstress, a couple places to look for bridesmaid dresses, and told me shed get my dress cleaned. If was the easiest dress shopping experience Ive ever had. Thank you so much for everything. We love The Shabby Chic!P.S.- The price for my dress was under my budget and totally worth it for my dress!

I will never go back there. I drop off a brand new beautiful wedding dress never worn ready for the next bride it was a $900 gown. The owner will RIP you off at shabby chic. Such a joke. I recommend going else where. I even bought a picture frame brought it home to find it was cracked. The owner is extremely disrespectful and rude!.

I went into the Shabby Chic about two weeks before my wedding without a dress because my past experiences shopping for one had been so negative. This was not the type of experience I had here. The owner was fun and had great suggestions. She didnt rush me and was not pushy. By the time I left there I had a gorgeous dress in hand and paid a better price for it than any of the dresses at other shops I had looked at prior to going in.

I worked with The Shabby Chic in trying to sell a wedding dress. It had been at the store for about a year and I got a phone call saying that I needed to come pick it up as it had not sold. I was unable to come in over the weekend to pick the dress up. When I made it in to the store, I was told that the dress had been donated as it was their policy to get rid of dresses that had not been picked up within 24 hours of that phone call. That is fine. If this is the shops policy, then this is their policy. However, to not communicate this to the owners of clothing is not only unethical, but it is theft. I asked where my dress was and was told they had no idea. The associate apologized for the miss-communication. This was not a miss-communication, this was not a miss-understanding, this an unbelievably shady way of doing business. I would never recommend this shop to anyone wanting to sell back any article of clothing or accessory. A TOTAL SCAM!

Update: they wrote me back on Facebook a couple hours later. So I booked an appointment. They then responded to my One Star review and I got an email that they canceled my appointment. In a nutshell, they stated that they are “disheartened” that I wrote a one star review so they took the liberty of canceling my appointment I made. I am saddened at how immature they are with their customers for being a business.Impossible to get ahold of anyone. I’ve called multiple times the last few days. I even found them on Facebook and wrote them a message, they gave me an automated response telling me how to book an appointment. All I wanted to know was if they had a certain style of birdal dresses. They will not be getting my business. I’ll go where a business values their customers.

I found my wedding dress at The Shabby Chic last weekend and am thrilled by both the gorgeous gown *and* the incredible price! ($1400 new, $650 for me!) the ladies at the boutique were wonderful -- Maddie was working the day i went over for my first fitting and i loooooved the way she let me cruise the racks and stack up a pile of dresses that *i* liked (versus at some bridal boutiques where they ask about your style preferences then they select gowns and bring them to you to try on ?? that seems so Backward to me!) Maddie hung all the gowns in my dressing room for me to try on at my leisure (i went to Davids Bridal for a fitting recently and i felt like we were on a time clock! go! go! go! in and out of dresses, snap snap! nothing like that here -- you can just Relax and Enjoy the fun of it all!) my Mom went with me via FaceTime since she lives 2000 miles away and Maddie was super helpful and held the phone up so my Mom could see each dress i tried on, ha! yay! i met one of the owners, Sarah, on my return trip to purchase the dress and she was lovely as well ~ very positive and friendly. they gave me leads on a good local seamstress for alterations and i also bought a crinoline for my dress for only $35, score! i would give these ladies 10 stars if i could!! thank you !!

I put my wedding dress and three other items on consignment with this business on January 13th, 2015. I contacted the company on October 15th, 2015 and asked to come pick up my items as it had been a while and they had not sold. I received the following response on October 16th, 2015. Sorry it took us so long to get back to you today. It has been busy here. I pulled up your account this morning and it looks like we have your wedding gown and corset bra on layaway at the moment so as soon as those are paid off we will be issuing you a check. We do still have a formal, and slip on your account that have not sold. It looks like we took them in last January so you have not come to the end of your consignment period with us, but if you want we could certainly pull the formal and slip and have them ready for you to pick up. Thank you for contacting us, just let us know what you wish to do with your items that are still on the sales floor, Elizabeth. I was not aware of this layaway policy so I asked what that meant. I was told that as soon as the bride paid off the dress I would be issued a check. I received a check on February 17th for $100 less then the consignment agreement. I called on February 17th to inquire about this. Sara called me back and told me that on 7/15/2015 my dress was reduced to $500 since it had been on consignment for 6 months. I was not notified of this and no where in my consignment agreement that I signed does it say that prices will be reduced at 6 months. I was told that my dress sold in August (been on consignment for 7 months) but how do I really know this since it went on layaway and I didnt even know that it was sold/on layaway until I contacted the business on October 15th to pick up my items. I would love to share a copy of my consignment agreement that I signed. The terms are different then the current consignment terms on the business website. I believe they updated their terms after my dress went on consignment. After many attempts to work this out with Sara I was unsuccessful. I filed a complaint with the BBB and still got no response. I would encourage others to look at this business BBB rating and other complaints before doing business with them. I then had my attorney send The Shabby Chic Bride a letter on April 28th, 2016 requesting the following“Please provide an accounting for my clients items, including dates of all price reductions, ultimate sale price and payments received by shabby chic for those items”“Alternatively my client will accept payment of $72 for the balance of the 50% owed to her from the sale of her wedding dress (50% of the stated price of $700 in the seller agreement is $350). If payment in full in the amount of $72 is received at this office on or before May 15th, 2016, she will forego the additional payments owed to her from the sale of other items.Unfortunately I have still not received the accounting details that I requested or any additional payments towards the money that is owed to me.As a business owner myself I can’t believe that the Shabby Chic Bride would not work with me to resolve this issue and withhold their reputation. I caution anyone considering doing business with this company!

The service we got here was outstanding. Janelle was so awesome. She listened to what my daughter liked and saw what looked good on her and went and found dresses to try on (after my daughter had tried on the bunches we had picked out a bunch and tried them on). She was great at sharing what alterations could easily be done. I would definitely highly recommend this shop. The prices were wonderful. My daughter got her dress that would retail between $1800 and $2200 for $475. She was thrilled! Woo Hoo, check the wedding dress off the list.
