Dakota Payne at the hat counter was absolutely amazing. I accidentally bought stampede strings thinking it was a hat band, and Dakota was able to make the stampede strings into a band for me. Amazing service

Good service. Was tended to well. Would have been 5 stars for the attentive service. Then this. Picked up boots and they were put in the box without the protective paper/plastic placed back around them, not to mention the paper and cardboard used to stuff them (yes I keep them in my boots until they have been minked). The boot jack was laid on top of my unprotected boots. Also, while the Cavenders tag is noticeable on most/all the shelved boots, I didn’t know they used a standard tag punch/piercer to attach them. My new $160 boots now have a rather large hole (considering) in them which could lead to future damage. This is not the fault of staff at this location... I’m sure its a standard policy. Seriously, stop piercing the boots just to get your tag on them for us to spend our hard earned money on new boots, get them home and take the tag off. We aren’t going to wear your tag as an accessory.

First time shopping at this place,very disappointed and not returning.found a pair of childrens boots on displace with a sale tag of 50 dollars I was asked by the sales person if he can take the boots up to the front counter.iSaid yes,when we were ready to pay not realizing that one of there ignorant employees took the sales tag off and they all stood around looking at each other and acted like no one ever took the tag off,the manager rude unprofessional and seemed argumentative with customer when the were in the wrong,he offered a discount but thats not the reason I pulled the boot off the shelve.He said they have the right to refuse service to a customer,but in my case why refuse if they were doing mark downs.i would not even rate this a 1 star.I would also give a Zero!

Dont go in there unless youre white! Walked and looked around for 10 min and not once did I get greeted or asked if I need assistance. This is San Antonio, we arent leaving, so you might as well take my money if I want to spend it at your store.

There is a great selection of cowboy boots and, if by chance your size is not available in the store, they will order it for you. Staff is very helpful.

Non-existent return policy. You are better off shopping at a competitor whose return policy doesnt consist of basically you break it you buy it. It is impossible to properly try on the boots in any real world setting as any dirt or small scratch will basically disqualify you from their ridiculously restrictive return policy. You cant wash the boot to clean them (I didnt), you better hope you keep all the tags or else they cant take it back (I did), and you cant get any practical comfort-time out of them since they dont want used boots return (wore them 3 days). If you are buying anything from here be ABSOLUTELY sure you have no issues with the product you buy. Plan to be in the store for hours to get a real feel of any footwear you plan to purchase. I personally bought some boots that had a composite toe (mandatory in my job) which would bother my feet after a couple of hours. Wore them for three days in an indoor data-center setting, which are notoriously dust free and free of clutter, and was told I couldnt return or exchange them. I would understand if they where filled with muck and ripped apart, which just demonstrates how ridiculous their return policy is.

I went to CAVENDERS to buy some boots today. They sure do not have sizes! Then I decided to buy my granddaughter a little shirt and shorts western set. Sign said 15%off. At register 15% did not come off. I questioned it. A women walked over to sign and removed it right in front of us and said it said shirts were on sale. Keep in mind there WAS a shirt in the set! NOW, THERE WERE NO SHIRTS BY THEMSELVES. SHE TRIED TO CHEAT US. THEY LOST ME AS A CUSTOMER.Just read another review about removing a discount tag. This is terrible customer service and really bait and switch. Consider yourself warned.

If I had the opportunity to give this review zero stars I would. I had some family come into town and I decided to take them to the store and shop around for their first pair of boots. It was our first time going and to be honest the store was nicely set up, I couldn’t believe that this building use to be a Walgreens. We were approached by a salesperson who reeked of marijuana and cologne. I was so disappointed in myself for bringing my family into this store and at the manager for letting this employee still work knowing how his worker smelled. It makes the company look very unprofessional and it goes to show they will hire anyone off the streets. I will not be coming back to this store.

I am rather disappointed with this store due to the salespeople. They hovered over me as I was trying on pairs of shoes, and themselves were not knowledgeable about their products at all and knew NOTHING about how footwear is supposed to feel when worn. I put on a really cool looking pair of shoes just to have to put them back since one of the arches on one of the shoes was not right and/or broken, but the salesperson (actually, both of them) just kept on making up stuff like telling me that that’s how they feel at first and get better over time (which is literally the most used and poorest excuse to sell shoes I’ve ever heard.)I mean, I get it, they must be commission, but their complete lack of knowledge about the very products they sold and seemingly treating me like I knew nothing about shoes (and I’m one of the pickiest people I know when it comes to shoes) was really upsetting. I’m not coming back here ever again.(I’m only giving this 2 stars since the selection of product was decent and the store was nicely laid out. Now, if only they could staff salespeople who cared about what they were selling.)

I would highly discourage anyone from shopping at Cavender’s Boot City (Culebra and 1604). I had one of the worst experiences there recently.While shopping for my son’s first pair of cowboy boots one day I decided to ask the sales person if Cavender’s Boot City repairs boots. He advised that they did, by sending it the boots to the bookmaker. I asked if he knew the ball park price for something like that and he stated that it may be free depending on the boot, the wear and tear, and the type of issue with the boot. He instructed that I bring the boots in for visual inspection and we could go from there.Several days later I brought my boots in and spoke with Dakota (manager at Cavender’s Boot City). He explained it would take up to 12 weeks to get the repair done. Again, I asked how much this may cost. Dakota advised that it may be free because the boots weren’t very worn out and the damage seems to be from a defect. I felt uneasy not knowing if there would be a cost after all so I asked Dakota to let me know if he learns of the price prior to the repairs so that I can make a decision.Several weeks passed and I heard nothing, so I assumed it was free. Multiple weeks passed and I still heard nothing about my boots, so I decided to call Cavender’s Boot City to check on the progress. I had to call them half a dozen times. Two times I spoke with sales associates who took my information and told me they would call me back with info and never did. Four times I had to explain to the sales person who I am and what type/mode/size/color, etc. my boots were for them to even look them up (and still they couldn’t give me an update).I finally spoke to Dakota. Turns out he never took any of my info down so no one knew about my boots or status of what’s going on. He promised to research and call me back. He did. He advised me I would get my boots in a week because they were being sent back that Friday (the next day). Thursday of the following week I call to check if the boots arrived and spoke with another manager who informed me that the boots were not even due to be shipped back until the following Friday (a week from my call). This was fine, I just wanted to know what the hell was going on.Finally, I get a call from Dakota telling me my boots were in and I could come and pick them up. I went in to pick up my boots and to a HUGE surprise. To repair the boots, I had to pay $135 and change. I was flabbergasted. Not only did I ask several times what the cost would be and been told most likely it will be free, but I also asked that they tell me an estimate once they find out the cost, after all they sell boots and I’m sure I’m not the only person to ever come in asking to get his boots repaired. I felt like I was pushed into a corner, I had to pay that money to get the boots or just leave them there. Had I known it would have cost $135 and change, I would have considered buying new boots, or using a local shop to fix them (much cheaper once I called around). I had to give my last money I had for the week to get these boots back.This was the worst experience I have ever had, and I will never shop at Cavender’s Boot City again. I’m part of a big circle of folk who wear western ware and I will make sure that I go out of my way and spread this message, so they are prepared for something I wasn’t. The sad thing is that I asked the right questions but was given wrong or no answers and then I had to pay for their mistakes. This place is a joke and I would strongly recommend you take your money elsewhere where they may treat you as a person and someone, they want to do business with.
