I regret not getting more pictures, but this place was insanely busy even though it was really early on a weekday and any time Id take a photo 5-6 people would stare at me moodily. I will definitely return but eat inside to avoid the mosquitos. Theres two outdoor eating spots, which are both cute. The vibe of the whole place is really cool. It took at least twenty minutes to get our breakfast. The coffee was good. I like that this place has a chicken coop outside.
Three of us went for breakfast at 9am on Monday morning. We ordered a parfait, an omelet and oatmeal. It took :25 to get our order. We asked the man bun guy bringing the food when we would get the oatmeal. Were out of oatmeal. I said we werent told that when we placed and paid for our order. Well its not on your receipt. The cashier had even described what came with the oatmeal, so it didnt seem like they were out when we ordered. We didnt get a receipt and didnt want to argue. They get two stars because the food was good and the ambiance was nice.
If you are looking for a cozy, chill, feels like family kind of place to enjoy coffee and eats, this is it. Sit down and enjoy slow sipping the best cortado/cubano in town (thanks to the mad skills of YaYa) or find a cozy corner table to get your studies done while a steady supply of coffee comes your way courtesy of the amazing staff. Or, you may want to relax outside on the covered patio and watch the resident chickens do their thing while savoring a delicious omelet. Either way, you will leave blessed with a smile on your face and a satisfied belly.
Based on my experience, Mask required for entry and heavily enforced. Though the door sign stated “masks recommended”. (Strictly stated as an FYI)You can receive service so long as you remain outside. This does slow down the service but the food is worth the wait in my option. So delicious.Plenty of parking available off the street. It’s a beautiful place to spend an afternoon. I recommend it. The brunch menu is only on Saturday, according to Harrison. So I’ll have to go again.
First time visitor. It was hard to find parking and seating on a Monday morning. The seats in the back terrace didn’t have any cushions on the couches and the tables available were dirty. Headed indoors, but the available tables, again, were dirty. I went outside to the front terrace and found a nice seat and then waited 25 minutes for my food—I thought they forgot about my order. Had the avocado toast with salmon and French press coffee with cinnamon spice; spent $18+. The food tasted good, but it seems pretty pricey. I might be back for their croissants and coffee to go.
This place is always so crowded and now I know why. The atmosphere is perfectly pleasant, with lots of greenery and even a chicken coup outside, giving it a very provincial vibe. The iced coffee was very very good. The chorizo omelette was also super good and filling. It was an odd choice for a french-themed restaurant but I appreciate that they are catering to the local audience, I took advantage of it after all. The side of potatoes was just ok, but a good balance with the stronger flavor of the omelette.Last but not least, the service was great!
Some of the braver birds and flys can be annoying but overall its a clean place. Good and drinks come out pretty fast from what Ive noticed over a few visits. Weve also gone during really nice weather but can see it being really hot during normal summer months. The back area does ha e plenty of fans and shaded seating but I feel like some evaporative coolers would be better. There is a big chicken coop with cute healthy chickens!
Im visiting from Dallas, and this is my first time at this bakery. What an amazing experience, the staff members are very nice and attentive specifically Jenna (amazing attitude and personality) the food, incredible. I highly recommend this place for food at any time of the day. The environment is very cozy, and theres plenty of space. Thank you Commonwealth Coffeehouse, and keep doing this amazing job.
Holy sticks of butter, Batman! A friend brought me here for breakfast a few days ago and the croissants are some of the best Ive had anywhere in the States (certainly in Texas). The atmosphere is warm and charming and comfortable, and theres plenty of seating both inside and outside. Im planning to come back very soon with a book so I can curl up in the corner for a while and watch the other patrons revel in the pastry goodness as well.
I have been coming here since it opened many years ago. It used to be a very cozy friendly and the staff were always very friendly and service was fast and amazing. Since the big renovation I am very disappointed with the service and the overall experience. I seems like an unnecessary upgrade. The place lost its family flavor and unique character and we felt like strangers. We lost another favorite spot. 😔
Delicious coffee. We had the sin nombre latte with half the sweetness and oat milk. So good! The outdoor seating is so nice and tranquil. Definitely will be back for more coffee.
Loved this coffee shop. Cant believe I havent been here before. Great outdoor seating and dill chicken salad croissant was excellent.
We had the cold brew, croissant, potato and leek soup, and avocado toast. We enjoyed all of it! A good place to study. But there aren’t a lot of outlets. The service is great and the workers are kind and helpful. The chicken coop is really cute. We plan on coming back!
I come to Commonwealth about once a week to spend a few hours studying here, and its one of the coziest coffee shops around! The food and coffee are both tasty. It can get pretty busy inside sometimes, but there is plenty of outside seating (even covered seating in the back for when its raining). The atmosphere is great, chickens are the perfect touch, and the bathrooms are always clean. What more could you want?
One of my go-to places in SA. Whats up with the burnt croissant this afternoon? The person at the register asked me if I wanted it warmed. I said yes and after waiting 10 minutes it arrived stone cold. So I asked (again) to please warm it. Waited another 10 minutes and received a burnt croissant. One of the baristas who wasnt even part of the conversation blamed me saying well, we usually dont heat the croissants cause they come warm? Is that the reason why they gave me the burnt croissant, as a lesson? So disappointed with this visit.
They had very few gluten-free options but they do have corn tortillas. Prices are very good and expresó beans were so good
I often dont leave reviews for new places I visit. That is because I do not like to judge the place on only one experience, but because I really enjoyed the food and my sister really wanted to take me to Commonwealth Coffeehouse given I was visiting from out of town I do feel the need to express to the shop how they may improve their customer service. First, I would like to reiterate the food we had was delicious. On the other hand one of the employees we dealt with might need to be better trained. She did not have a welcoming attitude, she put her hand out for my card before I was done ordering, and seemed bothered when we would ask a question about the menu (oh and not to mention, she did not take our order correctly both times we placed an order with her). I can definitely add more about my experience, but I would like to end my review by saying I truly believe in supporting local businesses, but on the same token customer service is key. May you all have a wonderful day!
We enjoyed the coffee the last time we came here, before the remodeling of the coffee shop. The remodeling looks so nice and give an abundance of room and makes so much more sense for the coffee shop. I like how it has 2 bathrooms and a beautiful outside eating area, thats partially covered so you get the best of both worlds, with having a little sun if you want or to stay out of the sun but be outside. They have a beautiful chicken coop with 3 chickens. They have cute childrens picnic tables, that my children enjoyed eating at and looking at the chickens. The coffee and food is really good.My only complaint is that why is this place serving coffee and certain drink from plastic and paper cups? If you are staying to enjoy your coffee, tea or water ALWAYS give it in a porcelain cup. If youre taking it to go give it in a disposable cup. I know this place has a dishwasher to clean and sanitize things, because why do they serve food on porcelain plates, give wine and water in glass? Please always serve coffee in a mug! Its so much more enjoyable than a throw away cup. Takes away from the coffee house experience.
What a gorgeously decorated Cafe.Just beautiful backyard and front as well. The inside is clean and the staff were nice as well.We ordered coffee, cinnamon roll, and sweet croissant, and a ham and cheese sandwich served on a croissant right before they stopped serving food.It hit the spot for our lunch break. So glad we got to visit.Would definitely come back on a nice day and try to sit out front by the water fountain.
Ugh... I want to like this place SO bad. The place is adorable, the food is alright, the ambiance is refreshing. But I just cant look past the poor customer service and communication BOTH TIMES we went here. We were visiting San Antonio for the weekend, stopped in Saturday morning for brunch. We ordered two coffees, avocado toast (pictured) and a ham and cheese croissant. We waited for the coffees up front; one of the workers let us know that we could have a seat and the food would be brought out to us when it was ready. After 45 minutes of waiting and having some avoided eye contact by the runner, I figured there was a mixup. No big deal, it happens, right? But it took me walking inside, waiting at the register and starting to explain the issue when one of the employees already knew what had happened! Not sure why it couldnt have been resolved. The food was brought out soon after looking a little worse for the wear.ANYWAY, we decided to give the place another shot on Monday morning for brunch. A little less busy, but still a good chunk of people working outside enjoying their coffees. We order the exact same thing, get our coffees and head outside to wait. 15 minutes goes by, then 20, then 30 - my wife and I start joking that they remembered us and did it on purpose. I walked inside to discuss the problem, but the same employee cut me off to let me know he already knew our order. So I simply ask to take it to go, because at this point we have a flight to catch. Not even two minutes later, the food is brought out to us in to-go containers. How???I want to like this place so badddd but I just couldnt believe that happened twice, both times we went. And when my wife bit into the croissant, she said it was room temp. Not sure if the communication is just poor or this was some kind of joke on us, but either way, the place needs better communication. Maybe a number system would be best.If youre in a hurry, dont go here.
Good coffee. Croissants some of the best this side of France. Had Breakfast croissant. Took top off so u could see it was scrambled eggs, spinach, and i added sliced avocado. Next time i will get eggs on the side as the bottom of croissant was so soggy i didnt really taste it.4Stars as price for breakfast w/sliced avocado ($11) and cappucino ($3.75)--this is pricey for many of us! Special trip and splurge occasionally is fun.
CommonWealth Coffee house is amazing. Really great atmosphere that makes you feel like you are in a quaint Pacific Northwest west coffee shop with some southern flare. The back patio area is also very relaxing and shaded. I got the slow drip coffee, the cinnamon croissant and the house lemonade and all of them were amazing. I definitely suggest getting the croissants and the lemonade because they are made fresh in house and are delicious. The staff is super friendly and attentive and I would recommend 10/10.
I joined a ladies group here a few months ago and was excited to bring my family back. The backyard area is an amazing and tranquil oasis amidst a big city - raised flower, herb, vegetable garden and an amazing 2-story chicken palace with a chicken run. CW was closing in 15 minutes, so they gave us an extra cinnamon roll and glass of amazing hibiscus tea, which was a beautiful as it was flavorful. We’ll be back with out of town friends!

Ive been wanted to check this place out for a while because I am a total coffee and croissant Junkie. Ive headed in on a rainy day oh, the place is packed. The ice coffee and chocolate croissant were excellent... Perhaps the best Ive had in San Antonio. The problem I have with this spot is the staff. I wait in line 12 minutes to place my order only three people ahead of me and waited another 15 minutes to get an iced latte. I understand this place is a restaurant first but they primarily sell coffee and croissants and to cater to that crowd more effectively.I can imagine myself coming here in an afternoon and ordering a few things and staying for a few hours if I could find a table as well as my intention today but there was no seating available. Ill give it another shot in the future on a nicer day oh, but for now 3 stars.
Came here for the first time. Cute place and the pastries are good however the customer service isn’t the best
30 min pass. They forgot my order. After I told them it still took a half hour for them to bring me a cortado. Imo Go to merit, press, or starbucks on Broadway instead. They have better service and better coffee.
CommonWealth Coffeehouse was the perfect study hub for me!Their coffees and pastries are absolutely the most European I’ve found in the area, especially in Texas.Very simple and perfected menu, friendly staff, and comfortable environment.Enough plugs and an over abundance of tables.Good for large parties of 5+ or just sitting alone studying/working.They carry Fuji and Topo Chico water, plus an assortment of other retail beverages. They also offer a 20% discount to military as well as discounts for teachers and students!
This place was cute, quaint and unassuming. I had the Croquette Monsieur and added tomato for an additional charge. It came with a salad. I also sampled the turkey croissant sandwich (I cant remember the name of it). The lattes were great, I just didnt like that my lattes were in paper cups...so we didnt get the whole experience. But other than, it was pretty good.
Would be 5 stars if it weren’t for the service.I come to Commonwealth fairly frequently. The coffee is good, the ambiance is great. If you need a place to sit down and get some work done, Commonwealth is a good option, but if you want a nice meal, stay away. The service disappoints me every time. I’ve walked in to order a drink and seen the baristas standing around chatting, and told “we’ll have it right out,” only to wait 15 minutes for that drink while the baristas finished their conversation. My food order is messed up ~75% of the time. Recently, I was told I could only have a single topping on a breakfast taco because more than one “slows the kitchen down too much” (I ordered bacon, potato, and egg and was only able to do bacon and egg or potato and egg). I’ve even been unable to get work done and because the baristas’ friend showed up, sat near me, and they all crowded and had a loud conversation.I would really love this place if the service was more professional.
Excellent service! I was immediately greeted upon entering, which is always nice and set the tone for the visit. Everyone who worked there was polite. The quality of the coffee, food, and atmosphere exceeded expectations. The price of coffee and food was very fair, lower than other places nearby. The indoor decor was cozy and the ideal coffeehouse/bakery experience. There were two outdoor seating areas, the one in the back had a garden and chickens. I will definitely be coming back again. Its great that San Antonio has such a unique coffee shop.
Good barista if you dont like your coffee they remake it or give you extra shots if needed hes been a barista for 5 years
This place is AMAZING! So many cute sitting spots both inside and out, plus they had metal straws for sale! Great drinks, super friendly, great vibes.
Great experience with the staff. The food is made with love. Recommend this place to any and everyone.
Such a lovely staff with genuine enthusiasm that shines thru even early in the AM. Their rich and smooth Cuvée coffee lands perfectly in almost any concoction you can think of… latees, cappuccinos, oat milk cortados, etc etc. There’s also a chicken mansion on the patio. Cockadoodledoo.
A glass house specializing in an espresso bar with Mexican based beans its primary source, but a variety of roasters ( Noble coyote, Amaya and white elephant). Specialties dont stop there but continue with a balanced taste of pastries in-between breakfast and lunch.Shop is a great working and leasure spase with inside and covered outdoor seating.
Best damn croissant 🥐
From out of town and I asked for a coffee.. instantly turns around makes hot without asking me with a rude attitude. I thought us Bostonians were rude but wow.
My new favorite coffee shop in the San Antonio, TX area. Great customer service and excellent menu selection. Peaceful place to get some work done as well.
I came in yesterday and had the turkey avocado sandwich. It was absolutely delicious. This place is super cute but fills up inside fast!Coffee is super strong and their cappuccinos are great. I do wish they had an option to have your iced drinks in a reusable glass instead of a plastic cup if you’re staying in, though. :(They have milk substitutes (including oat) and lots of syrup flavors so you can have your coffee just how you like. Overall yummy food and great environment, there are just some things they could do to be a little more eco-friendly.
I love this place! Patio is beautiful, cuvée coffee is delicious. Get here early enough to enjoy the freshly prepared food cause it goes quick!
Love the coffee quality and the place is really cool good spot to have some coffee. Love it being there might come back soon.
Awesome environment, really love the remodeling work they did since last year. This is probably my favorite coffee shop in town.
Great service. Croissant. Great atmosphere
Adorable little coffee shop, tucked away so it’s easy to miss! Had delicious latte options!
Delicious awesome outdoor patio
Great food and service at good price. And the chicken decors are funkily Texas!
Fantastic coffee and great breakfast!
Good coffee and cafe food selection
Great environment, delicious food, amazing customer service!
Drove 1 1/2 to enjoy this place....and it is closed for remodeling!😣😕😥🤕🙄🤔😫😮😪Major disappointment.I will take a bit of responsibility because I should have called before I drove all that way...but hey....they should have been monitoring Google Yelp etc and posted they are closed for remodeling.Anyway......despite this...I can not wait for it to reopen.
Serve your lattes in mugs and stop being lazy. You serve food and wine on plates and in glasses but cheap out on lattes. Get it together.
Great atmosphere and coffee selection! The French toast was ok
This is a quaint little cafe & bakery right off of Broadway & Hildebrand. It looks like a converted house, so it was a little hard to find, but definitely worth the find. It is quite small inside, so it was difficult finding somewhere to sit but there is plenty of seating outside for when the weather is a bit warmer.I ordered the Turkey Avocado sandwich, which comes on Ciabatta bread. The sandwich was delivered with the softest Ciabetta bread ever. It was absolutely delicious. For dessert, I ordered a cinnamon roll. I should have asked if they could warm it up, but it was good nonetheless. This place is definitely a college student hangout as the seats were mostly taken by students with their laptops. We got there right about 11:15am and soon after, the place was filling up fast.Overall, I highly recommend this place based off what I ordered and what my friend ordered (the fettuccini).
Super bumed we didnt get to experience this place but if you want to have brunch (on a sunday) Sketch will not disapoint! Its their sister branch! Amazing food! View and staff!!Update: We finally went 3 weeks ago and it was amaziiiiiing!!!!! Its such a cute laid-back atmosphere. We have a 15 month old son and he loved the chicken coop in the back! The food was delicous!!
Has potential but it seems that current staff doesnt care about the patrons or the establishment. Tables were not bussed, cashier was not friendly or knowledgeable. Order was wrong and food did not come timely. Coffee is okay, but I would rather go to Starbucks if that tells you anything. Oh as ND it was cold.
Great food and great coffee. Service was excellent.
Our favorite place for coffee and breakfast. Fresh eggs and fresh coffee
Just had an amazing brunch here. A wonderful omelet made to order with Café au Lait to wash it down. Sorry! I didnt take a picture because I was hungry!
The awesome people serving are always very kind. Today, I was holding a cup in each hand with a third balanced on top of another. The barista came around the corner and opened the door for me. It was small, but it was thoughtful. The coffee is always good, the interior design makes you feel at home and the colors were very well thought out. There are chickens in the back section, its a great place. Check it out.
One of my favorite breakfast areas!
This is my all time favorite coffee house. If I am near one, I am going in. You cant go wrong and honestly their coffee cant be beat. I always get the Mocha Latte with half and half and the staff at the Weston Center knew me and my order. So much so that they kept the half and half stocked just for me. 😁 They are what got me hooked on coffee houses instead of chain store coffees. If you are ever downtown, hit up the Weston Center location. They also have fresh baked pastries that they do there in house, not brought in...and an amazing lunch!!! Plenty of adult beverages too! If I could give 100 🌟 I would!!
