I finally figured out how this coffee shop got its name...The flag of State of California has a bear on it! And this coffee shop is across the street from the beach (the coast)! So, its named Bear Coast Coffee! Clever!Just about halfway between LA and San Diego lies San Clemente. Were discovering how quaint this beach town is. Ive been using my Yelp app to find little coffee shops like Bear Coast Coffee to stop by and break up the drive/stretch our legs/get a snack and coffee.I wanted latte art and got it! I really liked the smoothness, design, and flavor... and the bear decor! It was subtly all around us...like a Wheres Waldo puzzle!I would like to stop by again, sit outside, and look at the view because the location is right across from the San Clemente Pier! The atmosphere is just beautiful!
Coffee tastes horrible! Very watered down and burnt… order 3 coffees (one for my sister, bf and myself). We all agreed the coffee was very underwhelming and disappointing to the point where we didn’t even finish our coffee… and that says a lot because I’m not picky at all. What do you call a sad cup of coffee? A depresso.
Long line but fast service. The bliss balls were a perfect little morning treat to go with our special lattes (Horchata, and Lavender Caramel) 🤘🏼
Order: two hot lattes, one almond milk with vanilla and the other oat milk with hazelnutWhat I got: one hot latte oat milk with no flavoring or sweetener, one iced latte with spoiled almond milk. It wasnt until after we got the drinks that she told us they dont carry hazelnut.
Delicious cold brew! A great stop when you are by the water. Cute shop and decor. Very trendy and awesome place.
First time there this morning! Great and friendly service! Great coffee too! I’ll definitely be back :)
First time visit. Had an iced coffee with a shot of espresso and my lady had an iced latte. Both were excellent, pricing was not out of line. I recommend Bear Coast.
Literally in the best location, ever.Friendliest staff!Well roasted coffee.THE BEST ALMOST PISTACHIO CROISSANT. EVER. I would drive back from Arizona just to get one of these croissants for fun/if I am desperately craving one. I might even inquire if they could ship one to me. UGGGH SOOOO GOOD!Anyways, go here, this place is a 1,000,000 out of 5 stars!
My favorite place in the world to grab a cup of coffee. Try the lavender caramel latte!
Excellent specialty coffee with an oceanfront view!Woke up on a work retreat and was craving a good cup of coffee (something better than the Keurig provided by our AirBnB). We found Bear Coast coffee down at the San Clemente pier & was exactly what I was craving. Fresh brewed specialty coffee from Sweet Bloom Roasters (Denver). The oceanfront view is breathtaking & enjoyed from the indoor or outdoor seating. Restrooms available. Plenty of places to work on the laptop, read or enjoy a conversation. We’ll def come back.
Cute little coffeeshop directly across the San Clemente pier offering good quality coffee and various small treats. Get your coffees to go to sit outside or walk around the pier.
Bear Coast!!!!You will LOVE this coffee. Yep! It’s smooth and has no need of extra “fluff” like sugar. Delicious black, milk, or with their housemade almond milk. (YUM)—> TIP: bring your own cup or purchase a Bear Coast cup. Don’t take a lid if you don’t need it!—> TIP: I appreciate that they carry healthy options for sunscreen and body care, as well as great apparel options.—> TIP: the view makes this place spectacular. The few café tables and stools at a bar facing the beach are fabulous.Check it out. My cousin in San Clemente said “I’m ruined for any other coffee now! Bear Coast has made me a coffee snob!
Great craft coffee shop!
We always have a great experience when we visit San Clemente and go to Bear Coast Coffee. The service is awesome, and the coffee is delicious. I really enjoyed the lavender caramel latte which is apparently their top seller. I actually spilled my coffee while walking to the beach 😮, so I went back and they were so nice and remade it for me. 🤗Nova and Jenna were so kind.
Went to Bear Coast coffee every morning during our trip in San Clemente to get coffee and pastries! Coffee and food was wonderful and the service was so friendly!
Stumbled upon this coffee shop yesterday evening as it was conveniently located near the San Clemente pier. I decided it sounded nice to order a hot coffee (to warm me up with the cold weather).I was very unimpressed with the entire experience- I ended up ordering a Caramel latte with almond milk which was $7 ($6 + tip). When youre spending $7 on a coffee, you expect it to be pretty good. The coffee itself was okay but the customer service was terrible. The barista called the drink out with no lid so I asked for one as I was taking it to go- she snarkily said its behind you while rolling her eyes. I dont know whats so frustrating about a customer asking for a lid but it was a very unpleasant experience. Ill definitely take my business elsewhere next time.
Had a terrible experience with the coffee here, hoping to redeem it with another visit on the behalf of it being frequently recommended and has good reviews! got a peppermint mocha and it tasted like... ramen? very odd and ended up throwing it away after a few sips. i also got the feta egg sammie; was good but not very tasteful. its in a nice location and is good for a quick coffee but wouldnt expect any mind blowing delicious coffee (:
Super cute and friendly place! Great coffee!
The best coffee in California! I always come here when I’m in town. Yesterday a younger barista (new) made the coffee and I was nervous it wouldn’t be good, but it was still the best coffee in California (only a tiny bit less awesome than some of the OG baristas at Bear Coast, but I mean you can’t always have Kato make your coffee)
Good coffee. I like the cold brew!
Fantastic! Their avocado toast is amazing! The peppers and hard could egg, loved it. Great coffee and great pastries.
Everyone greets you with a smile and on top of that your coffee is prepared with care. Also, the views of the beach are nice!
Very good coffee here. Great customer service to.
Solid atmosphere, staff and location. I had the Ginger Iced Tea and would have it again.
So I was at Bear Coast coffee in San Clemente at the end of a 3 week vacation in the USA. I flew out that night back home to Australia. This is without doubt the best coffee in the USA.I visited dozens of cities over the last 8 years been to 100 more coffee joints trying to find someone who can make a decent cappuccino and bingo the last day of my vacation I find it.Thank you to the wonderful barista and the other staff there the food was also great. 😀👍Gregg Melbourne Australia.
A great 3rd place! When work gets overwhelming, when the house is full of chores and responsibilities this is where I go to reset. The staff is friendly but more importantly fast! The coffee is phenomenal and on the weekends they serve breakfast burritos that are out of this world! I love this place, I wouldnt be surprised if you do too!
I tried the cold brew and it was great. I enjoyed it outsie on their little sitting station.
The lavender caramel latte is a MUST TRY. their muffins and scones etc. are so worth it. staff is super nice too. if you’re in the area i definitely suggest!!
I’ve had a lot of quality/specialty coffee in my life. Today was my first time to try Bear Coast, and it has to be in the top 3 cups of coffee I’ve ever had. I’m so sad I don’t have one of these close to where I live.
They gave me free coffee and snacks @ SAN0 on a Thursday morning, you are the best! I explained I dont really like the acidic trendy beans of today, He informed me of a darker roast I might like. So I jumped on my bike from SC camp ground, road along the beach to the shop then back. Loved the darker roast, great location and wonderful people.
LOVE LOVE LOVE Bear Coast! Always hustle and bustle plus the beach and pier, whats not to like?
Great coffee and a very relaxed vibe
Great little place right across from the pier and beach. Very modern looking, sleek with some cute sayings around the shop. It was very busy when I popped in for a coffee, but service was fast and they churned drinks out quickly. The fact that they offer a turmeric latte caught my eye, as did the caramel lavender latte. Both of these flavors are still somewhat new, but definitely buzz words in the coffee shop world, and I love both. I went for the caramel lavender, iced with almond milk. While it was decent, I wanted more lavender and less caramel. After the ice melted down a bit, neither flavor was identifiable. They supposedly make their own almond milk (Yelp told me this, but no signs indicating that), which is awesome! I also appreciate a decently priced coffee in a location like this, when so many beachfront shops upcharge.
Right on the beach. Friendly, considerate staff. Excellent chai latte! Love the touch of cinnamon on the top.
Staff wasn’t friendly at all. Although the view is beautiful
Lavender Caramel Latte is the best! Amazing coffee!
My favorite coffee Ive ever had. They focus on lighter roasted coffees to really bring out the natural flavors of the beans. This means lots of fruit notes in the aroma and flavor. On top of the great coffee and baked goods sold here, the staff are always extremely friendly!
Just moved to SC. This is a great place. Good coffee and friendly staff.
Don’t buy coffee beans from here. They were far too roasted (burnt) and oily. I ground them just before brewing a cup, and the coffee was still awful and bitter. In store orders taste good though. Staff is very friendly.
Great, great coffee. I bought two bags of beans there and Id definitely purchase again. Its a bit of a drive for me, but if Im in San Clemente again, this will be my coffee go-to.
Love this local coffee shop. We were visiting family over the holidays and enjoyed our morning coffee run by the pier. Friendly, hipster, and worth the visit!
This place may be cute, and it does have a great location, but it does NOT live up to the hype. First of all, the coffee quality is not the best, especially for how expensive it is. It is very acidic and bright, definitely not the best quality. I do like their kombucha, but it is also overpriced. But, my biggest complaint is the service. The employees are very rude, and seem bothered whenever i try to order or ask about something. I just don’t understand why, but the employees and customer service are like this at every bear coast location I have been to. The vibe at this place is not welcoming, and you get the feeling that if they don’t know you, they don’t want you to be there :/
Service with a smile. Vanilla nutmeg latte and a beach walk - great way to wind down.
The whole Bear Coast crew is amazing! They have the best coffee in town hands down and now with the Stance Socks location open you can get a cup anywhere in town! If they ever get your order incorrect they have no problem fixing the issue and have 0 attitude about it! SO awesome to have a great local coffee shop in town!
Bear Coast is one of the best coffee shops in San Clemente. It sits comfortably behind the pier, hidden next to the pier market. Expect it to be busy when you go because theres usually at least a small crowd every day. They sell a lot of hip merchandise and bags of coffee that are definitely worth looking into.
Good Coffee, better protein balls
Good mocha latte and iced tea, however poor service and pricy. Ordered both drinks and all 3 employees were too busy talking to friends who came in with their dogs to notice I was awkwardly waiting for my drink after everyone else had been served. Asked for my drink again while they were chatting and it was quickly made but the fact they forgot to make my drink seemed to go over their heads and no sincere apology was made. I regret leaving a tip for poor customer service
Excellent coffee, excellent roasted beans. Thank you!
Great people, good coffee and yummy breakfast snacks. What is not to like?
Come at dawn, and sit in the outdoor portion looking out to the ocean. Paradise. Cold brew is decent, but for me its more the magical laid-back atmosphere - very Californian.
I went to their newest location at the stance headquarters in San Clemente. I tried the short rib burrito and had a cortado. The burrito was incredible...one of the best ever. And of course their beautiful coffee speaks for itself. Thank you Bear Coast for opening this location.
I bought a cup of coffee but tastes weird not even coffee. And also ordered a cup of Hot chocolate. Again tastes unusual, taste more like chocolate powder for cake poured with hot water.
I just cant quite get into this place like other neighbors are. Coffee is OK, I drink basic black coffee and they do OK.$9 breakfast burrito was bland and still cold in the middle from being warmed up in microwave out of freezer. Nine dollars for a cold bland burrito, you read that right.Avocado toast looked great but had some sort of strange flavor that I did not care for, kind of a bread and butter pickle or something that had no business on an egg and avocado dish IMO. This was my taste buds and not execution of the dish though.Wifes latte was delicious (according to her, I didnt taste) and looked fantastic. If you are looking for a coffee based drink and a nice spot to enjoy it this would be worth a stop. If you are looking for coffee Id pick another shop.
Amazing coffee, people are even better!!thank you for your service!
Great coffee, extremely friendly. On very busy days they dont have a ton of capacity to serve quickly so its a bit of a wait - fine if youre on vacation!
This place is great! My favorite place for coffee I wish they could open a location in Malibu. I make sure to stop here every time I head to SD.
Quick service, friendly crew, great view of the pier. Overall excellent place for a great cup of coffee. Food is great too. Not really a place to linger however. My recommendation, go early. Due to its awesomeness, the place fills up.
Great spot right on the main road. Easy views down to the water. Oat and almond milk available. Espresso is lightly acidic, vanilla latte was awesome, not overly sweet.
Cute little coffee place right across from the pier. Made a very tasty latte!
Best spot to grab coffee and enjoy the quintessential San Clemente morning. Locally/family owned, with great tasting coffee and awesome merch. YES PLEASE!! 🔥
Great location, food and coffee. They have cool swag too! Seating is extremely limited especially on weekends but I cant knock off a star just for that.
Very nice local coffee shop. Cant beat the location, across the street from the beach. Coffee was good, had an Americano, could taste the difference good beans makes. Decent assortment of baked items. Had a scone, very nice. This is a great spot to stop too and from the beach
Good coffee. Burrito wasnt super flavorful. The avacado on the burrito was yummy. Great location across from the pier. Nice spot to study or just enjoy the view.
