Love the place, love everything about it. The bagels and the donuts are consistently excellent. And the ingredients are obviously very good because otherwise my stomach would certainly tell me. Staff is extraordinary nice all the time. Whats not to like? I recommend the lox open face sandwich. Cant get enough of it.
Wow! Great bagels are few and far between. The schmears are incredible! Not only fresh, an incredibly well-balanced taste too.Im surprised that he hasnt been picked up buy a major brand to head their franchisees to the path of righteous quality and presentation. He knows his stuff.Lots of accessible parking areas (not that I am saying I ever used the Vons parking lot), great location and very fair prices considering how much quality goes into this and the cost of doing business in an expensive part of town. The only strike against them isnt their fault. The fact that (in Fall, 2021) a lot of people who would otherwise be employees in that skill range have chosen to use their unemployment and extended benefits to make money without working. What those people are losing out on is the work ethic, learning how to deal with people and the discipline which will help them in their future careers and relationships. I guess their parents werent so inspiring. I wont hold Solomons responsible for a cruddy labor pool.
Honestly, a disappointing experience. For $6.30 you can get a very small bagel with cream cheese and another $5 will get you a mediocre coffee, no bells and whistles just a medium roast with milk. Originally being from the east coast, I was excited for a real east coast style bagel. However, this is absolutely not what I got. A real NYC bagel would be bigger and half the price. For price and quality, I’ll be going back to BCB instead of Solomon.
If you want a decent bagel in San Diego (hard to come by out here) this is the only place to go! They opened up right in the beginning of the pandemic and have been thriving since. Expect a line and a short wait on the weekends. Totally worth it. Great spot to swing by if you’re looking for a bit of carbs you miss from the Midwest.
I keep giving this place a chance, but this is the second time in a row my order was missing an expensive add on. No bacon or avocado! I tried to call to explain but they never answer and “do not check voicemail”.
I ordered a toasted everything bagel with vegan cream cheese, and it was very good. Nice crust and a good chew. However; I also ordered a cinnamon raisin bagel - exceptional. Amazing flavor, appearance, bake and chew. Definitely worth the wait (I shopped at Vons next door while I waited for my order).
Amazing staff and really great vegan donuts, they also have amazing vegan cream cheese and bagels(jalapenos bagels).
The staff is so nice & friendly—the owner however needs to help his staff by hiring more people. After 40 minutes of waiting for two bagels with cream cheese, there were still 20+ minutes to wait. These are bagels—nothing revolutionary or worth waiting an hour+ for.We left without ever receiving them, so no idea if they would have good.Go to Big City Bagel and don’t waste your time.
Can’t understand the negative reviews for this place- for those of you who are impatient/don’t realize that these people are working through a staff shortage in a pandemic maybe you should just delete your reviews. I stopped here while visiting from IL for a breakfast sandwich and have to say it’s one of the best I’ve had! Great bagel, great jalapeño spread (good kick!) it is a little pricey- but you are definitely paying for quality because the egg and sausage were both fresh. They definitely take their time to make a quality product. The donuts looked sooo inviting. Wish I had time to come back for the strawberry frosted one! They also have a lot of vegan options. Definitely would recommend.
The donuts, especially the vegan ones, are amazing. The bagels are meh. I am aware that nothing will top a NY/NJ bagel but these are like toasty Kaiser rolls with a hole in them. Decent but I will continue my search.
I paid $18 for two bagels with cream cheese and drinks. Pretty insane pricing. Then I waited almost 15 minutes for my food. I received two cold mediocre bagels. Then they ran out of the drinks i ordered. My sesame seed plain cream cheese bagels reeked and tasted of onion. This place sucks. Its easier, cheaper and faster to go to Brueggers instead.
Having tried just about every bagel and doughnut shop in San Diego I can tell you that this place is legit. Ive been there 4 times now and each time its gotten better! The first time was soft opening, then official opening and now twice since then. Looking at the reviews I think people are confusing the food quality with COVID-19 regulations. We love the breakfast sandwiches and the doughnuts are delicious. Weve had good to great customer service each time. The staff are not only friendly and helpful they are also great with recommendations. I have and will highly recommend!
There was 3 people in line in front of me. I ordered a bagel with cream cheese. A breakfast bagel with ham egg and cheese and a apple fritter. The fritter is amazing. The bagel is good. But the food took 35 minutes. Two people working and what looks to be the owner just standing around. The girl behind the register is also doing all the pickup orders. Nobody moves very fast. They really need to have about 4 people working here. Minimum. They have the customers to support it but this isn’t the place to come if you’re in a hurry. Other bagel places just as good and you’re in and out.
Just got a chance to check this place out. They were pretty good! The prices are a little high considering the items. But overall I really enjoy all of their items, including their vegan options. We got some breakfast bagels and ice coffees. I will be back to try their donuts. They are also taking really responsible precautions during the pandemic, so I appreciate that.
Don’t waste your time!!I ordered online through the outside scan option since I was just out walking and didn’t have a mask. The email clearly states they will bring your order out to you. Unfortunately, that did not happen. After waiting 30 minutes watching them walk out orders and call other customers name I had my wife go in.They told her it’s been sitting there and she should have just came in. That was TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!! I was trying to respect their no mask rule but no one talks to my wife like that. I went in no mask and all to tell them I needed a refund. They proceeded at attempt to offer me a refund for the sandwiches only saying this was a common issue. If it’s a common issue you all should have that posted somewhere because it’s not new.I will be calling my card company, Ray, if my FULL REFUND hasn’t been processed as you stated it would be in 3-5 business days.
They get a break for opening up in the middle of a pandemic, but this place needs some operations help. They have 10 menu boards inside that cant be read until its your turn to order which leads to lots of confusion, questions and a slower line. Would be great to have a pre-menu somewhere or one that can be seen while youre waiting from outside. They also had a big bucket of Philadelphia cream cheese on the counter, why bother making authentic bagels just to use store bought cream cheese? That being said, the bagels were delicious and certainly some of the best Ive tried in San Diego.
Came here for the first time 2 months ago. I ordered two bagel sandwiches...early morning before work. Took 40 mins..was late to work. Tried to give them a second chance today. Ordered two bagel breakfast sandwiches again...45 min wait. Ridiculous. Do not waste your time...go anywhere but here!
Nothing special.. You make your own sandwich, the flavor is blah. The smoothie was good though
I have been coming to Solomons since they opened last year because their vegan donuts and bagel sandwich options keep me coming back. The quality of the food is outstanding. However, I cannot rate it higher than a three because I have never waited under 20minutes for my food. I have heard from staff that the vegan egg takes longer to cook, so now I just get vegan cream cheese…which still takes just as long somehow :/
For toasting a bagel and spread cream cheese it took 21 min! Really? There were 5 people in the back 3 at the front ... lots of costumers waiting for their orders; I do understand a decent waiting time for a sandwich or some prepare to order food, but for toasting a bagel!!!!? What a Waste of time 👎 ....Definitely not coming back.
*Update: Still love the bagels but the service is painfully slow. Please bring back the express line for people who just want loose bagels to-go. Or better yet have one person to take customer orders and someone else to prepare the order.*Original review: Excellent bagels with a good variety of toppings and shmears. Highly recommend the Black Russian bagel and surprisingly the vegan cream cheese!
First off let me say, I love the food here. That’s why the four stars. But when it comes to customer service and efficiency they get 1 star.Almost every time I come in, I end up waiting at minimum 10-15min to get a drink and a bagel. This is ridiculous and never should be an issue. As I’m writing this, I’ve received my bagel and still no drink and I’ve been here 10min. I don’t come as often as I use to because of this reason.
Very expensive, we ordered a breakfast sandwich, got just a plain bagel. I don’t think you can consider that a sandwich in any way.
The hostess was very polite and courteous, and apologetic about such a long wait time.I can see that the employees are taking call in orders as well as in store orders. The fix would be to hire employees for just call in orders, but that would drive up the price of your products even higher that what they are now. There should be at least a customer facing priority in the store before the call ahead orders. Maybe the wait wont take as long as 20mins to receive a 12oz cappuccino. I remember a time when customer that were in the store had priority. But maybe living in such a time as equality those that call in might feel discriminated. What ever the case, Ill have to try one more time before I write off Solomon Bagels$Donuts.
This so called establishment had the audacity to accept my door dash order and then not make it or give it to my delivery driver. I was looking forward to bagels but they messed up my morning. I doubt the food is any good anyways!
Really disappointing. Potato knishe was greasy (made it through two bags). Bagels are doughy and bland. I was looking forward to the bialy, but it was just bread. People were friendly but the product is just not authentic.
My drink from the fridge was warm. The everything bagel has little everything on top of it. The breakfast sandwich was almost $9!
Worst service of any store I’ve ever shopped in. Staff do not acknowledge your presence. Orders made up incorrectly. Bagels are underwhelming. Never answer phone and don’t check voicemail. I called the store about 50 times over the last 4 days and never was phone answered. Avoid Avoid Avoid at all costs.
The bagels are great.I ordered a to-go through grub hub to avoid the wait. It took me about 30 minutes to go through the line with 3 people ahead of me. My order was right there, behind the counter and I dont think waiting was necessary.Bagel was cold. Seems like they can do things much more efficiently.
Food is good but they take 25+ min to toast a bagel. By the time you get it, its completely cold. The service is atrociously slow. Easily the most inefficient coffee shop Ive ever seen. Its obvious none of the employees know what theyre doing.
I like the jalapeño bagel with jalapeño spread and the donuts. However, you have to plan a half day trip there given slow service and long lines.
At first glance, I was very excited to try Solomon Bagels & Donuts. I lived in NYC and know the proper consistency of how the bagels should feel and taste. They were decent in taste but overall I was underwhelmed by how small the bagels were in comparison to how they advertised the similarity to NYC bagels on their website. The biggest issue for me is the customer service. 4/5 times the staff either got my order wrong, took wayyyy longer to make the food than promised or said they would include a food item and forgot. The training and processes definitely need improvement. The main thing Solomon has going for them is the vegan options. But, sometimes their Yelp menu doesnt match the in-store menu which is super odd.Hope they improve their services in the near future!
Best Vegan Breakfast Sandwich we’ve ever had!! What’s with the single-use plastic clamshell for every sandwich?!!! Please STOP using those; items like these are bad for the planet. A more sustainable waxed paper wrap would be way better!
I never noticed this place, even though Ive been up and down their street hundreds of times. I bought a jalepeño bagel as well as a cheese bagel. I have to say they were awesome! Im definitely going back to check out different flavors. 😃
Seriously good bagels, and the garlic herb spread is the best
Good donuts. I love the apple fritter. Id like to try the pineapple upside down cake donut one day, but have yet to see it in the wild. We prefer to call in our order if we also want bagel breakfast sandwiches, but it is near impossible to get someone on the phone. From the 10 or so times we visited, I think Ive been able to order ahead of time twice. Its laughable to the point Ive called the phone while at the shop, heard it ring, and watched no one pick up.
Ordered from Uber eats, bagel with lox cream cheese and some veggies, bagel came with no cream cheese at all. Tried to call them no answer who in their right mind would prep this without cream cheese. Everything else was correct so now I have a nice looking bagel that I dont want to eat unfortunately because who eats bagels without cream cheese :(Update: I went down to the shop, and they offered me a free doughnut and gave me the lox spread, all good.
I arrived a little before 10 AM to get two vegan donuts, a bagel sandwich, and one iced Vietnamese coffee. 20 minutes later we got our coffee and 40 minutes later still no bagel. Not sure why it took so long. The employee brushed it off after I asked for my sandwich after 30 minutes! The place wasn’t packed. Maybe 8 people ... it would have been better if they said that they forgot about our sandwich. Rather than saying they’re running “a little” behind and haven’t started. Must be long days for the employees there if they can’t slap an egg and some bacon on a bagel in 40 minutes. I cancelled my order and left. I would review the food but I never got the chance to try it.
I placed an order over the phone and was told it would be ready in 15 minutes. My bf went to pick it up and waited 45 minutes! Overall the bagel was small and had about a teaspoon of cream cheese. It was tasty but it was so small and not enough cream cheese.
Incredible bagels, incredibly slow and often poor service. Theyre not unpleasant at all, really nice people but I think my order has been goofed every time Ive been.
Vegan options are pretty incredible!
We ordered an everything breakfast bagel w/egg whites, sprouts, bacon and onions along w/everything bagel w/salmon spread. We also had 6 donut holes and a choc. fudge croissant. Our entire order was fresh, delicious and pleasing to the eye. They used biodegradable containers too. If I could give them more stars I would. Absolutely fantastic!!!
Both times we have been here, it has been with great service, excellent food, and great vegan donuts! I recommend. It is now a regular visit for us.
It’s ok. Nothing really to brag about
Bagels and sandwiches are awesomeBUTThey get your order wrong 80% of the time.Check you items before leaving.
Staff was great, location was easy to find, parking was a cinch, bagels were good.
Literally the best bagels Ive had in forever and Im from NYC. 😁
Love the food here and the cashiers are always nice but boyyyy can they be SLOW. Thats the reason for 4 stars. Sometimes all I want is a bagel with cream cheese and it still takes 20+ minutes.
Great place! Always fresh pastries!! Love it. The chocolate croissants are the best for me. Definitely recommend it!!
I love going here on the weekdays. Too busy on the weekends.
Yummy fluffy bagels with great spread options!
Ive been here three times and have had the onion, everything, cinnamon raisin and black russian bagels..all are awesome!! Generous portions of butter and cream cheese on the bagels and they have a great selection of sandwiches and donuts, some of which are vegan friendly!!
First, I love the bagel and cream cheeses here, they are seriously amazing and after giving up on bagels for years, Im addicted. However, its a real challenge getting ahold these beauties. The last 3 times Ive stopped by in 2021 theyve been closed during their posted business hours, with no notice on the door, and their voicemail isnt updated. I am slightly concerned they went out of business.
One hour wait for a cream cheese bagel. Jokes on me. Would recommend taking your business elsewhere.
Ive been here twice. Once ordered a breakfast bagel egg cheese ham on Russian black, and the second time the lox open faced sandwich. Both were superb. Def recommended. Btw they also have delicious donuts
The bagels and donuts are good! Leaving this review based on long waits and incorrect orders. How did I walk in on a quiet morning, wait 10 min for a toasted bagel w/ cream cheese, but drive away with a cold breakfast? The order was right on my ticket and its just disappointing.
Great Bagels, great people! The bagels crust and consistency is simply delicious and the perfect amount of crisp!
Very good bagels, and their apple fritter is just ridiculously great.
Ordered carryout. This was my first experience with this restaurant. Ordered a plain bagel with peanut butter. Tasted great, excellent quality. Definitely earned a future order. Good service. Nice sized restaurant and seemed cleaned. Has a little outdoor seating.
New favorite bagel/donut spot in San Diego. Not many other places you can get a vegan breakfast sandwich served all day out here. The vegan donuts are awesome too. Joey has been there literally every time Ive come in and not only does he make a killer sandwich, he can help you make up your mind when youre on the fence about which donuts to try, he wont steer you wrong. Thanks Joey!
Not well run. High prices for mediocre food and coffee.
Get the Apple fritter. The bagels are always perfectly chewy and are great when toasted. I love that they have a selection of breakfast and lunch sandwiches. They even have a half off happy hour from 4pm - 6 pm.But I always get an Apple fritter
Food is good but it’s so slow. took 25 minutes to get two bagels with cream cheese while there was only 3 people ahead of me in line.
Edit: They still seem a little under staffed in the mornings, but they all try really hard and are really nice.*Original: The food here is great. The vegan menu is amazing and the prices are affordable. Im so glad this is my neighborhood. But the wait is so, so long and the people calling names are so soft-spoken behind their masks, and when you ask if something is yours, they get confused and it takes them forever to figure out whats going on.Sometimes they ask you to wait outside (reasonable), but they dont offer any place to sit and wait outside, which is hard when its a 20-25 min wait, and offer no way to hear your name being called while youre waiting outside.Be prepared to wait, be patient and probably be frustrated. This has been my experience all 4 times Ive been here. Id love to edit this to 5 stars if they create some better protocol for getting people their food a little faster and with less confusion.
I just waited 17 minutes for a bagel with cream cheese and a coffee. Never coming back.
Great bagels and coffee.
It was the worst bagel and lox I have ever had. The lox was basically a giant gag-inducing lump of salmon, the capers and dill were virtually non-existent, and there was - what I believe to be - about a half an onion. So yum.Even worse than the bagel was the length of time it took to actually obtain it. 25 minutes in line and another 40 minutes outside waiting for it. They were not understaffed - I counted no less than five people in the back - so I have no idea what took so long. Of course reading the reviews now it appears this is the norm which really makes me wonder how this place is still in business.Save yourselves the frustration and find someplace else to eat.
I had a vegan sandwich with both vegan cream cheese and vegan pepper Jack. *I couldnt decide. With vegan egg, bacon, onions, and peppers. It was the best sandwich Ive ever had. They have so many options for vegans. Beautiful restaurant, and the staff was so friendly and accommodating.
Nothing bad here but not sure anything is worth 5 stars here. Still, pretty good all around.
I come here all the time good place
I love this place! I have been countless times already; I am from the East Coast and it is nearly impossible to find good, fresh bagels in SD. I usually get the vegan cream cheese bagel and it is excellent (one of the employees told me they make it in house). My husband loves their donuts and pastries. However, I got to say that the wait is too long to simply get a bagel. They just opened and there are many restrictions due to COVID, but I really hope they fasten their process. I live nearby, so I go during the week, but would definitely be going on weekends if I wouldnt wait in line for more than 30 minutes. Definitely worth supporting!!
Love the donuts and bagels here. Great vegan menu too and lots of treats and breakfast and lunch items too.
Excellent bagels. So many people buying. So chewy. 10/10 will come again.
It may just be that I’m from NY, but the quality of food for the cost just was not what I was expecting. I’m pretty sure they microwaved the eggs, and the bagel was mini.
The bagels? OUTSTANDING! The donuts? Great! The prices? Moderate to high. The service? Meh? to Lousy! Waited OVER 1/2 an hour for a tea. Had to inquire about it twice. Had finished our bagels long before the tea was hastily made. Asked for a refill (and was willing to pay for said refill) on the coffee ordered at the same time as the tea? Nope. “We don’t offer refills.” Value? Hhhhmm...
In an effort to offer some constructive feedback rather than just complain. You’d go a long way with earning our business back if you just announced when peoples food was ready. Have one person’s job be to deliver the food to the people waiting outside. Right now there is no organization and the outcome was my wife and I waiting for 45 minutes to receive a cold breakfast.Thank you for making it “right” by remaking our food, but I’d suggest you spend more time serving the people who already paid you not just focusing on taking more orders.
The food was great. But it took too long to get our food
Ordered a breakfast sandwich online, was just a plain bagel.
Lilly helped me to get some donuts and they were delicious. I also appreciated that the store was super clean.
Best vegan donuts! Love the vegan breakfast sandwiches as well with the vegan garlic and herb cream cheese!
Really enjoyed the pumpernickel bagel and vegan apple fritter. This is a top notch breakfast spot, but the customer experience needs to be improved. I imagine some of the frustrations I experienced has to do with the growing pains of a new business during a pandemic. Nonetheless, here are a few points of feedback for the ownership:1) organize the order line versus the waiting line. It’s difficult to tell who is waiting to order and who is waiting for their order.2) simplify your menu. You have a lot of offerings and specials. For first time comers it’s hard to decide what to order and probably complicates things at the cash register.3) speed things up! It took 30-40 minutes to get 2 bagels with cream cheese, a donut, and an iced coffee. It’s a fairly straight forward order that should have taken less than 10 minutes to get!
The donuts were amazing, especially apple fritter. It was warm and slightly greasy...a little expensive, but good size. Also tried the bagels, but would not recommend. Maybe got a bad batch, but they were tough and small. Also wait was long.
Fast and friendly. Great place. And they offer delivery with grubhub
Bagels are good but service is terrible. Slow as mud and they rarely answer their phone.
Pretty decent local bagels and pastries. Large vegan selection is a plus
LOVE their bagels and my bf LOvES their doughnuts. Perfect match. Plus their vegan options are perfect. I recommend going at happy hour, I believe after 4 (could be earlier) for 1/2 price.
The egg, ham, and bacon breakfast sandwich I had was incredible, and the donuts are also very good. A variety of bagel options, and vegan donuts too.
Finally, a great bagel spot right here in San Diego. I love this place. There veggie spread is great and all their bagels are good fresh and flavorful
Really good doughnuts and bagels
