It is hard finding recreational vehicles let alone parts. I have a Jon boat with a Honda 15 outboard on it. Finding parts for this Honda 15 was driving me crazy. Until I found the dinghy doctor. I have been there twice to get parts for my motor. Its nice having somebody you can depend on with all this coronavirus s*** going on!
Great place! I had bought an inflatable elsewhere and was looking for a replacement storage bag for it. Was fully expecting to pay $150 for a new one, but the guy at the dinghy doctor had a few spares and gave me one for free. Pretty amazing considering that I didnt even buy anything with them. Very friendly staff and happy to help you out. Ill be back if the dinghy ever needs anything!
Absolutely AMAZING experience at the doctors office today all thanks to Jean! It all starts by being welcomed every-time I dropped by to look at dinghys and outboards and never feeling pressured to buy anything which allowed me to educate myself on the right product to get. Im seriously tired of working with San Diego boating staff that have no clue what they are selling and dont have a boat(s) themselves - no names but you know who you are. Not this guy! He knew exactly what I would want because he listened, shared his personal experiences, and asked me the right questions to get me there. I was looking for something for quick fishing and surfboard trips around the bay and found it :)Paperwork was all done seamlessly and my new yama 9.9 was all prepped by master mech Bryan. 2 pulls and we were In!I rarely take the time to write these things but seriously look no further when deciding on where to get boating gear or regular engine maintenance, hit up Jean and stay stoked. Happy Boating!insta: @nicotico
Bought a new Honda 9.9 motor from here. Brian, Jill, and the rest of the staff were extremely helpful and polite. Prices are very reasonable. Read several reviews on Google that seem off given the experience I had. They were honest during the whole process and took their time to research the engine for my particular situation (taking to high altitude lake). Changed out the prop to a 7 pitch for no charge. After purchasing they took the time (about a half hour) to show me everything about the motor and answered any questions I had.Definitely recommend and will be back for any motor needs.
Great inflatable repairs, authorized Tohatso dealer and service
I could not be more happy with the service I received at Dinghy Doctor. Im from out of town so was at a disadvantage and having to do a lot of my interactions with their business remotely. However, Charlie and Austin both have been SO professional and have gone the extra mile over and over again. They delivered my new outboard motor to a marina in San Diego, came out and trained me in its use, continue to answer my questions when I call, always with a very positive, cheerful attitude. Ive heard that old management was previously a problem, which gratefully, I never had to deal with. But this new management understands the importance of great customer satisfaction and word of mouth marketing. I would totally recommend Dinghy Doctor to anyone and easily give them a 5 star review. Ive been nothing but extremely impressed and happy with every aspect of their operation and our interactions.
Let me just start by saying that we should have listened to the bad reviews. We took my fathers boat in to get the throttle assembly replaced due to engagement issues and had a terrible experience. First of all, we arrived early in the morning to drop it off and had to wait 30 minutes before anyone even showed up. Wedropped the boat off and then came back later in the day to pick it up. They replaced the throttle assembly with the wrong part...We had had to then wait while they put the old one back in. After they were done they said that they had replaced the throttle cables and adjusted everything. We took the boat out the following weekend assuming everything was good and had the throttle stick in forward gear. We literally could not take it out of gear and almost crashed the boat. Luckily we were able to get it off the water without hurting anyone or ourselves. Once we got it home, we checked out the cable adjustment on the motor side and saw that they were completely rusted out. THEY DID NOT EVEN CHANGE THE CABLES. They had no problem billing my dad for them though. After all of this they refuse to refund him. DO NOT TAKE YOUR BOAT HERE.
Great place to have your dinghy or outboard motor serviced.
Very knowledgeable and helpful workers here. Way nicer and more professional then shelter island inflatables. These guys rock!
BUYER BEWARE. I am in the process of filing a civil suit. These guys took money for my dinghy then sold it to someone else. We had to cancel plans and eat it and they turned, accused me of lying despite paperwork...they did nothing to make good on it. This is a shady biz. I wouldnt buy from them. See you guys in court.
Good Honda guys. Professional and not out to gouge. Great experience and will be using them in the future.
The team is SUPER helpful and welcoming. Highly recommend this knowledgeable staff 😀
I visited and called this store for parts and service for my dinghy. I made an appointment to have the boat checked over and when I called to confirm the day before and find out when to drop off the boat they informed me they had no record of my appointment. I made the initial appointment in mid May for June 12th. Almost a month waisted. I have a parts quote confirmation from the day I set up the appointment but now Im told they dont have room for my boat until a month and half from now. I talked to Charlie and sent an email as requested listing the issues so they could have a heads up but never got a reply. I know this place had a bad reputation from the old owners. It seems the new owners are doomed to earn that reputation back. Prior to all this I ordered a propeller and it was late in arriving from when I was told to expect it. But at least it did come in eventually. Also, I was given an estimate for new tubes for my RIB of $3000. I bought a set for $1800 from another shop. Im really bummed about this. I was hoping to spend my money at a local business but they lost me as a customer.
Incredible customer service! Needed some last minute parts before a trip and they were able to take care of everything within minutes of me coming in! I also had some questions once I returned and Charlie went above and beyond to address them all! Thanks for everything!
New Ownership is excellent! Needed some hard to find parts for my Yamaha outboard. They got them quickly and for a great price. Thank you Tania and Charlie!
Top level shop in all regards. Brian and all the staff are experts and not pushy. They helped me pick the right boat. The prices are much better than Shelter Island Inflatables and they really took care of me. I look forward to working with their team for years to come. Thank God we have an honest and amazing shop in San Diego. Thank you.
I stopped by the other day looking for a small and specific drain plug for my Caribe inflatable, Charlie was able to get me the exact part I needed. I was in and out of there in 5 minutes. Great shop and really nice people behind the counter.
Very knowledgeable
Nice people
Took my Tohatsu boat engine for repairs. They could not fix my type of engine, but were very honest and gave me good advise. Tom, took his time to educate me and I liked the entire staffs honesty.I would highly recommend starting first with a call to the Dingy Doctor. I really liked their entire staff. Hard to find good honest people.
Work not performed. No estimate, no receipt, just ran credit card for over $500.00. I called to see if they would make good on the repairs, Service manager is very skilled at utilizing every excuse in the book. Had to scrub my trip to Catalina based on their lack of workmanship. Wont return. They got me once, that is enough for me.
Awesome place highly recommend!
Solid shop with great service on honda motors and great selection of new outboards and inflatables at low prices. They tell it like it is there. New location is on Rosecrans next to whats currently modern times brewery.
Please do not take your boat to these people. I unfortunately did and received a wake up call to bad service. Picked up my boat that was supposed to be timed and tuned only. The manager advised me that it could not be run because of bad gas and Yamahas very seldom have timing problems. After paying $80 bucks I got the boat home and noticed oil hand prints all over the rear of the boat and oil and grease on the tubes. The gas clip to the engine was broken off and sitting in the boat. Only to find another clip on that leaked gas when the ball was squeezed. Not sure how they even ran the boat in this configuration. Please do not take your boat to these people or you may have a story like mine. Terrible Terrible Work and Service!!!!!!!!!!
Great deal but unfortunately was sold the wrong control box with my motor.
Professional friendly staff. Less expensive than other companies in town. Exelent boat service.
The Dinghy Doctor is one of those places that, when you are in need of something in particular, in this case was thorough knowledge on inflatables, you trully sense yourself to be very lucky. They are friendly, supportive, knowledgeable, and very well established.
Not good service. Payed for an inspection and was told the engine wouldnt start(I knew this already). Told me my engine had problems and I payed to figure out why the problems where their but got nothing out of it. Terrible customer sevice. I highly recommend another repair shop.
Easy to talk and I did not feel that SALESPEOPLE heavy vibe
I recently took my 14 Novurania with a 50 hp yamaha in to the dingy doctor for repair. The port pontoon was leaking water in from a seam that had opened up near the aft cone. They expertly inspected it and explained to me what needed to be done and gave me an estimate. It was kind of a big job, because the original seam had to be replaced, and a new large piece of material over that. They did an excellant job and I am confident I will not have any issues with that area of the boat again! They did the repair with in their estimate! Also I needed some engine work done as well, I wanted to replace all the seals in the lower unit, because there was water in the lower unit oil. After talking to Brian (one of the owners) he informed me that it was just the upper seal that was leaking,( after pressure testing) and I could save a lot of money by justreplacing that one. He is VERY Knowledgeable about outboards and explained to me in detail what needed to be done. He also provided some really Great tips ongetting the most life out of that motor, its an older one 1995. I also had the impeller replaced and the water pump housing. After it was done, they provided me with the old parts that were replaced. I am very satisfied with the quality of work that they did, and at a reasonable price!! They really helped me out!I am Happy to recommend the Dingy Doctor for inflatable boat repair and outboard engine repair! Brady
Really bad customer service. I posted a very long review on Yelp that is very detailed, after my original Yelp response was removed. However it was moved to the reviews not recommended, can still be seen in a small drop down at the bottom of the page, but isnt taken into account for the businesses rating. It was just really bad customer service and they did not perform any work.
Dont go here for repairs! I took a 5hp Nissan outboard to have them look at it and they told me it would need a new carburator and some other work that would total $500 and they could not guarantee it would work. I declined and had my buddy put a new carb on the motor for $180 and the motor runs fine. Not one to learn anything lessons I took a leaky rib to them and they want $900 to retape the hull to the floats. I can only assume they regularly quote exorbitant prices in the hopes you will just buy a new product from them. I think for new stuff they might be ok but I would not recommend going here for repairs unless you are looking to burn some serious cash.
BAD, BAD news, feel sorry for the owner of this place. I am really suprise that they are in business.
Great guys, great service!
Very expensive for RIB patching, charged me for disposal when repair was not feasible....READ before you sign.
OMG $20 a square foot for PVC material! Thats $180 a yard. $25 a yard is high. SCAM COMPANY!!!
Very bad customer service. Quoted one price for service and continued to add on to it once they had the motor.
It was great
Excellent service and good attention from the whole team, especially Miss Tania!
