I selfishly dont want to tell you about Scrimshaw Coffee because its such a hidden gem. But this gem deserves to shine goshdarnit! Any coffee you get here is delicious. They actually take the time to make everything correctly and have a great base flavor. If you feel fancy, they have a few craft lattes (including one infused with pineapple - who knew?). You dont like coffee? Not sure why youre there, but they have a muddled berry and mint tea! You hungies? They expanded their food menu, even though the Avo Forever bagel sando is all you need. Theres a big ole whale in the front window. Call me Captain Ahab.

Sometimes i just want simple things like a cup of coffee and a good raspberry banana scone. Slow down and enjoy the moment. Would have been 5 stars if my Americano wasnt just black coffee, but they corrected it right away with a smile.

This is the coolest coffee shop in San Diego! It just opened up on El Cajon blvd and its better than I expected. Ice coffee and everything bagels are my go to, but they also have some pastries. They have the nicest workers and their whole set up is perfect. Plenty of seating inside and outside! Def go check them out.

I enjoyed my visit to this coffee shop! I thought the atmosphere and the environment were inviting, warm, and fun, and I loved the variety of seating that was available. I also really appreciated the separate space that was available for groups to reserve. Got an iced coffee and honestly it was pretty bad. It tasted like watered down rust with a shot of expresso on it.

Its VEGAN so theres a nice choice of coffees With almond, rice or oat milk and good bites to eat besides the pastries they serve breakfast well today Sunday. it is big and spacious inside and has tables outside on the street. The sun doesnt shine in here in the morning but would in the afternoon.

Finally a trendy/hip place to have coffee in the college area. Trips to coffee shops in the north park area were getting long and at times boring. Good drip coffee

This is my favorite coffee shop ever. The staff are all super friendly and fun to talk to. Their food is great too (bagels, some pastries, Saturdays they have breakfast food now which is amazing.) As for the coffee itself, I grew to love. I was used to super strong and almost bitter espresso that places like Virtuoso and Cafe Moto have, but theirs is mild, smoother, and much more enjoyable. The vibe is mellow and a cool place to relax and enjoy your day. Much love to everyone here.

I am really amazed! The coffee, the food, the service...This place is wonderful! It is 6 am in the morning, and its hard for a lot of people to be welcoming in the morning, but this barista here was so kind to me and talked to me like I was family without knowing me, and as soon as I sat down and got to work she gave me space. She is obviously very intentional about making sure that people are treated with kindness and respect! I love it. Also, the lights arent glaring, which helps me to still feel relaxed but not tired.The coffee is also really good! It is high quality and tasty--and they give you little animal crackers with your coffee! So cute. The food selection is pastries and bagels (plain with spread and 4 other options that are sweet or savory).I would recommend this coffee shop to anyone. Theres plenty of seating, too, with free wifi (no password necessary), so obvious they are very welcoming.

This little coffee shop is the first one in my neighborhood to really focus on the quality of the coffee. Mission accomplished- the coffee is amazing. In a neighborhood without much of an appeal for cute store fronts, hopefully it starts a wave of new fine dining and trendy cafes that will revamp this part of the ECB into a fun spot for young people.

My favorite thing about this little shop is the staff! They are so friendly and always remember us. The selection is minimalist, which I like early in the morning, when I’m too tired to search the menu at Starbucks. There’s always people inside reading or studying and it’s got a lovely, calm atmosphere. It’s very dog friendly, which I love.

Great coffee, espresso, beautiful lattes, and delicious bagels.It’s quickly turning into a nice getaway from work.I remember maybe a year ago or so when this place was opening up and remember seeing whom I assume are the owners hand painting their menu - it’s really neat to actually see it.

They were doing online orders only and wouldnt take my order or cash as I was standing there. Theyve got a pot of coffee sitting there, Ive got cash... pretty ridiculous!

Well,from the outside the place doesn’t seem like a coffee shop. But don’t let that fool you. The two young men who own the place Roger & Will are very nice, and they greet you with warm friendly smiles. And the ambience is the same, very warm, comfortable. They have a nice selection of coffees and teas. And a few sweets to enjoy with your favorite brew. It is the perfect place to start your mornings, with something warm to tickle your tummy and great customer service and good atmosphere. Go in order your brew, take a seat and relax. Your morning is now off to a good start.

One of my favorite spots in San Diego. The owner and staff are great. Very relaxed environment fused with a minimalistic style. Best Iced Vietnamese Ive ever had, its like crack. Their standard brew is also top notch.

Nice, unassuming place that doesnt overwhelm your senses with over the top decor. Coffee is the same. Flavorful without being bitter. I went 2x just to be sure and both times my Latte was excellent with the perfect amount of tasty foam. I only wish that I could order a larger size.

Right on El cajon Blvd and is definitely up and coming. The drink menu is pretty standard for a coffee shop and they seem to make there coffee pretty serious. Would recommend if you are in the neighborhood. Definitely support small local businesses.

Great coffee

It was the kind of coffee shop a few Baristas open when they fully embrace their hipster vibe, having very little funding, and only seek out to have a place to entertain their friends and young college students. The walls are concrete and bare making the inside echo like a high school gymnasium. The coffee offerings although on par in quality with the surrounding area are lacking in quantity. Service is very slow as the staff seem to have a hard time pulling themselves away from conversations with out of town college girls. All in all it is an above average coffee shop but for the competitive San Diego market it is sadly bring its C game. The only reason it might be open for any real length of time when there are so many solid offerings down the street is the out of town college kids who dont know that they can do better.

My absolute favorite coffee place! Love the minimalist decor, excellent service and great coffee. Espresso drinks are wonderfully done (great pull ratio, never over extracted, perfect temperature and great micro foam).

They are great!! Great coffee and nice and friendly people. They have a huge sign saying “Let’s Waste Time Together” which tells you what it is that they are going for, but they don’t hassle or act judgmental towards those of us who have to work. Always very welcoming. I go to Scrimshaw to both relax and work. Couldn’t ask for more!

Very nice shop. I can see as they become more and more successful the place improving more. They are still brand new. Staff is cordial and great. Real great coffee too!
