They stopped doing their Mac & Cheese and I’m kinda mad about it. It was seriously the best in the city, and now it’s gone. Forever! That’s messed up!The cheese is good, and the sandwiches are fine, but everyone that knows knows that we’re here for the Mac. Bring back the Mac! I want the Mac back!
Great place. Nice extension if you dont want to drive all the way to the creamery up North. Lots of items. Friendly employees too that will help you with questions and tastings. Theres a restaurant of theirs right next door too. And also the Acme bread stall to the other side as well to pair with your cheeses, jams, and cured meats.
Really great cheese, friendly staff. I looked at the shop and couldnt work out what to order or how this worked. The lady behind the register helped me and I had a 3 cheese platter. It took a while to get it but it was sooo worth the wait. The guy who served it also helped with my choices and that really helped. I very much want to go back....
Whenever Im in the city, Cowgirl Creamery is a must visit. I am absolutely in love with their cheeses, they have the creamiest and richest cheese Ive ever had. Also, you must try grabbing breakfast at their food shop. Their yogurt and granola is amazing, and their grilled cheese is sensational. It really is a great way to start off your day. I like to arrive at the Ferry Building early before it gets busy and just enjoy taking my time here for brunch.
This is the place to get that fancy cheese you’ve heard about but can’t pronounce. A place to try a new cheese that you never knew existed. I have yet to get a bad cheese from one of the cheese mongers recommendations. And very conveniently, there’s a bread place right next door. And a few doors down, a place to get some fresh fruit to go with your new cheese, if it lasts that long bc most of the cheese is good by itself. Don’t let the prices sway you, you don’t need a lot of it to experience cheese bliss.
Had a very strange and aggressive interaction with the manager of this store on a Friday evening -- his name is JEREMY. When asking about the return policy for a cutting board I was interested in purchasing, the manager would not give me a straight answer and was very accusatory in his response. He said we normally dont do returns, and that I could try to return it, but that he would investigate my return and require pictures of the item (?)Overall, I liked the cutting board and ended up purchasing it, but had much hesitation about this place in response to the unfriendliness and unprofessionalism of manager Jeremy, who seems like he needs to work on his customer service...
Everyone at this place are on the same page. What page is that you may ask. Well let me tell you that page is to make sure you find that perfect cheese for your taste. We came for one and left with 3. Great Job guys, see you soon.
Came here with a kids summer camp for a cheese tour. The kids love it because they were able to taste all of Cowgirls best cheeses. The cheese monger shared a lot of information on the cheese making process. Super interesting.
Didnt eat in the cafe on site, but bought some cheeses to snack on later. Wide range and huge selection of artisan cheeses from around the world. Asked to try various ones after explaining what we liked and the associate recommending a few. Thought the service was awesome. Ended up with about $25 of cheeses and ate those later in the day in the hotel. Great shop to get your dairy fix. And this coming from a Wisconsin Cheesehead, so its gotta be good.
We ate some excellent buratta salad and grilled cheese sandwich. Its very qualitative, so has the price you would expect. Friendly staff aswell. And everywhere in that building they sort the garbage between organic, recycling and trash. Very good!
Grilled cheese so good. Perfectly grilled and hot cheese oozing out - what more can you ask for? Also, its super quick - took maybe less than 5 minutes total to order and for them to hand me my grilled cheese at the little window. However, I think the grilled cheese at Hog Island is better... Not sure what it is, but the grilled cheese at Hog Island is the BEST Ive ever had.
A cheese-lovers paradise! Cowgirl has an array of cheeses to choose from and you can sample all of them! If you go to the back, they also have a few soft cheeses, like burrata, as well as other goodies like figs in port. And yes, you can sample the figs too!Because Cowgirl is in the Ferry Building, it can get very crowded and hectic. Its surprising how patient the employees are considering the crowds, so I have to give them props for that. Be sure to get a number so you can get help. And if youre in a rush, they also have items to compliment the cheese, like jams and spreads, and they also sell a few kitchen items too.Next door to Cowgirl is their cafe, Sidekick, which has sandwiches and salads that showcase their cheese.
Great cheese, its high-end but not insanely priced for the quality. The staff is friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Also check out the Sidekick Cafe adjacent to the cheese store. We religiously go there every Saturday for lunch. I particularly like the cheese toasties and grilled cheese sandwich which changes weekly.
Awesome cheese selection. All of the Cowgirl cheeses are delicious. They offer a wide selection of cheeses from not only Cowgirl but also other cheese makers across the country/world. The staff is friendly and they are more than happy to offer a sample and help you select cheese.
Love the little shop - great to get a sandwich for breakfast or lunch to take away. Their raspberry milk is yummy too. There is an actual cheese shop next to the food shop, they have amazing cheeses and you can taste everything before you buy. They also sell cheese accessories like cheese knifes or plates.
Dont let the location fool you, this is one of the best places to get cheese in the city! Try the farmhouse grilled cheese with caramelized onions and whole grain mustard while youre there!
They’re cheese products are good, buy from them most of the time. One star for the not so welcoming staff at the sf store
I LOVE their grilled cheese. I cant say anything other than that. I mean, it sounds so simple, but these guys really made it into an art. I have no idea how theyre doing it, but lets hope they keep doing it because its awesome. Definitely a fan.
I rarely write reviews of places that I visit on google; however, the disappointment of this place warranted a review from me. Lets start off with the pricing, dont get me wrong or anything I dont mind spending money, but 21 dollars for a cup of soup and a grilled cheese sandwich hardly is worth that price. I understand that rent in SF is expensive, but this does not mean that they should put the burden of the expensive rent onto the consumer. Secondly, the tomato soup tasted like it was heavily watered down. It ZERO flavor other than the soggy and stale croutons that were blindly thrown into the soup. Furthermore the soup was cold when I ate it, big disappointment for a place that is so highly recommended. I was in for a surprise when they managed to ruin a grilled cheese for me. Grilled cheese is probably one of the easiest things you can cook, however they somehow found a way to mess up this American classic. The bread was soggy, and the cheese wasnt even melted. It was uneatable. I ended up throwing away all the food away and my girlfriend and I ended up going somewhere else. I wish I could give this 0 zeros because thats what it deserves.
Knowledgeable staff that are happy to help you find what youre looking for... even if you dont know what youre looking for yourself! Also, they do have an amazing selection if both aged and fresh cheeses.Worth a stop!
I liked it very much. Bought some soft cheese. There is a nice array of cheese and crackers.great quality in what was for sale.
A truly unique range of cheeses. The triple cream Mount Tam blend is phenomenal but Ive never sampled a cheese here I dont like. Theres a new area here where you can also get sandwiches and coffee.
We got the bread and cheese plate from outside and it was amazing! Nice melted cheese that was not too sharp that perfectly complemented the Acme bread. It was slightly crispy which added a great texture. A little overpriced for a snack but quite worth it.
A very good place to go for a wide variety of cheeses and other items. The staff is courteous and very helpful, offering samples while answering your questions.
Despite its seemingly steep prices, the Mt. Tam cheese is wonderful. And I find myself spending a lot of money just for some tomato soup there. Worth a visit.
Visiting from out of town and was recommended to check out this spot. I order the Ham and Tam, Mt. Tam cheese and smoked ham on a challah roll. Was a very nice choice, simple and filling for a very good price. They have a very good selection on cheese servers with different types of meals. Very good place and I liked very much
Had their tomato basil soup with creme fraiche which was divine. The grilled cheese sandwich with caramelized onions was delicious.
I ordered the chai from a sweet cashier. The milk tasted full-cream, just the way I liked it. It was tad too sweet for my liking and the tea flavor was kinda weak.Overall 4 stars.
The perfect blend of creamy, crunchy, and smooth. This is by far the most delicious bowl of Mac & Cheese in the city that you will find. It doesnt hurt that the view from the Ferry Building is just a few steps away!
Very good selection of both local and imported cheeses! The fresh goat cheese is simply excellent. A bit pricey but you must expect it in the Ferry Building...
My sister had the raspberry milk, which was excellent. I had the chocolate milk, which was equally good--it tasted like truffles dissolved in milk. The artisan cheese shop next door under the same name had a great selection.
All of those 5 star reviews...perhaps breakfast is not their forté. The baked egg sandwich couldve been fantastic, but the bacon was almost raw, and the mushrooms and cheese were sloppily thrown together, creating just a $14 mess really. I was the only one there so its not like they were rushed or anything.
I recommend the red hawk cheese. But their cheese masters are willing to let you sample everything and help you pair your cheeses. Very very helpful staff.
Breakfast Pro Tip: get here early before the cheesy grits + poached egg sells out, add a strip of bacon to the order. Pair it with your favorite coffee from Petes next door or Blue Bottle further down the hall, then take your bundle of culinary joy out to the bay side of the Ferry Building, snag a table, and watch the San Francisco morning break into day against the yawns of boat engines and clapping waves. You will then just get a glimpse (and smell and taste and sound) of why San Francisco is so loved.
I love this cheese! I also love the location of this creamery. The staff is great - providing recommendations and free samples - and the prices are totally reasonable for the quality of the cheese.
There is a Variety of cheese at this location. The service is excellent here. The employees know the cheese really well and will let you sample about everything you want. Avoid going on farmers market Saturdays as lines are crazy!
This is the place to go if you want a broad cheese selection and expert staff. Theyre happy to make recommendations and provide tastes. If you love cheese, this is a great place to find something new.
I really enjoyed my grilled cheese sandwich! It had grilled onions and maple mustard
They where super nice. My niece just wanted to get cheese and the young lady that helped us was super nice and waited while my niece counted to pay.
Love live love these fellas. Monica and Jeremy are so incredibly helpful and knowledgeable (not to mention the biggest sweethearts in the world) they really will help you find the perfect cheese. The new management really improved the shop and though I would like to see a larger selection of cheesr, you cant help but absolutely adore all the cowgirls and all their beautifully handled xheese.
WonderfulSlightly larger than a kiosk with some seatingBut well packed/stocked and all kinds of deliciousness emanate hereId much rather get a small snack here than eat at most of the other places in the delightful Ferry Bldg
Good cheese. Very poor customer service. Staff not helpful and interested in conversing with each other as oppose to taking care of business.
Been returning for cheese for over 3 years now - great selection of both local and international produce
Decent sandwich, good grits. Cool location.Went back for some cheese and the staff were VERY helpful and fun.
My favorite cheese shop! So many great cheeses to try from all over the world. The staff is so knowledgable and nice. They dont make you feel dumb for not knowing everything.
My family and I visited this place today and the women at the cheese counter was extremely rude to my husband when he playfully tried to guess the cheese she was cutting. In a condescending tone she reiterated that it wasn’t the cheese he thought it was. She never offered to tell us what cheese it was or even smiled. We walked out and will never visit this place again. I will never spend my money or time at a place where the people selling goods are condescending or flat out rude.
Amazing selection on all types of cheese! You can sample their cheese before purchasing. Seriously a must check out at the ferry building.
So many amazing cheeses to take home, but if you are grabbing something to eat on the spot, they also make delicious sandwiches with those amazing cheeses.
Not many options for cheese stores in the area. Theyre good but I wish they had a slightly larger selection
In addition to producing fabulous cheeses of their own (the triple creams are especially good), they have a wide range of great cheeses. Even better, the staff is very knowledgeable and helpful, able to recommend the right cheese for any meal or occasion.
Pros:- MT. TAM cheese (sooooo creamy with the perfect amount of stinky)- Mt. Tams rind is edible!- pay by weight- helpful staffCons:- Mt. Tam is expensive :(- frequently very crowded- small store frontBottom line: I HIGHLY recommend the Mt. Tam cheese. Ask for a sample! And dont leave the Ferry Building without having tried it
I flew to San Francisco from Tampa, FL exclusively to have tomato soup and grilled cheese at Cowgirl Creamery!
Tasteful place for cheese lovers. Their cheese toasties are really good, especially with bacon (extra)
My girlfriend works in the ferry building, we ordered 2 breakfast egg sandwiches, and paid extra for bacon. Overwhelming amount of cheese. Dripping grease into a big puddle, bacon was hard to find and egg wasnt on the sandwich. Food took about twenty minutes and costed $12 a sandwich. We were both kindof amazed at how bad the whole experience was, not picky people but cant eat inedible food
One of my top 2 favorite cheese stores in the city. Cowgirl Creamery makes my favorite cheese of all time: the Mt. Tam. The Redhawk and any seasonal ones (like nettle wrapped for St. Patricks Day) are also really good too. They really know their cheeses and can help you pick out what you need for cooking or for a party or even for a snack. They also offer tastings, so grab a number and ask for suggestions! They will also cut cheeses down if you dont want a whole portion of cheese, since everything is priced per pound. Would highly recommend grabbing cheese here and some salumi from Boccalone for picnics or dessert or wine and cheese party!
I love their cheeses, but the recent picture of an employee picking her nose kinda turns me off. I hope she washed her hands afterward!
The Tam & Ham sandwich sounded amazing, even tho its $12.75, until I received a premade sandwich that was sitting in a basket on the counter. Thats a little ridiculous, even for the Ferry Building.
Dont get me going on this place. Love it!!!
The place is a not to be missed bay area attraction. Home of the famous Petaluma cheesemaker here in the City, you can find a wide variety of local and imported cheeses to suit ANY taste. Its situated next to Cosentinos Salty Pig Parts and the Ferry Building Wine Merchant, within four doors you can find everything you need to take a romantic partner on a bay area spring picnic.
A nice selection of cheese, pairs very well with Acme Bread baguettes next door
Great selection of cheese. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Most excellent.
Cheese to every man and woman’s content. I remember when we came here and purchased a bunch of cheese to serve at our wedding. We picked out our favorites: Mt. Tam, Wagon Wheel, and a few others that I can not remember the names of at the moment…but they were ones that any cheesemonger would appreciate.
The line is long, but well worth while. Im a cheese lover, and they give as many samples as you want. No shame!
Amazing sandwiches... If you love cheese, you must come here...
Tasting their different varieties of cheese was awesome. Must visit for a cheese lover!
Good food, horrible service at their sidekick cafe. I didnt know it was possible to be this slow and this consistently wrong.
Great cheese, good service and make sure to try the tomato soup.
Interesting place with vast cheese variety. Not giving it highest rating because I think there is far too much publicity towards this place.
Is there any problem in life their mount tam triple cream Brie wont solve? No, I dont think so.
Quality product. Never had cheese there that I didnt like.
Place to go for buying a pic-nic basket while you are in the embarcadero area
Great for cheese lovers and newbies alike. Ask for recommendations if youre stuck.
The grilled cheese here is amazing!
Grilled Cheese and Mac n Cheese were so delicious!
“We charge a dollar for a cup of water”. When we’re guests at the restaurant
Great food! Excellent cheese!
Try their Mt. Tam cheese...its pretty amazing.
The variety! And those mongers really make my day.
OMG this grilled cheese was made in heaven!
The daily grilled cheese is always amazing.
Yummy mozzarella and salami sandwich 😋
The staff at the Ferry Building cheese market are very knowledgeable and helpful.
Yummy local cheeses. :)
Great cheese store, although small and selection limited
Excellent cheeses with a very friendly and helpful staff.
A place to go back every time you are in SF!
Good selection of cheeses, their own and others.
The staff here know their stuff!
Love their oroducr
Farm fresh cheese
Great grilled cheese, great pickles
Grilled cheese of the Day. Do I even need to say anything else. Overpriced food. Should have asked for my money back.
