Cute shopping square centered on all things chocolate. Boutique stores and several nice restaurants. Downstairs there is a mini-golf and some other fun family or date night activities. The star is the Ghiradelli sundae bar. We got the Nob Hill chill and a mocha drink both delicious. We also got a sundae and it was delicious, great menu, great atmosphere, great service. All areas accessible but you have to call parking lot attendant to get the key to the ramp to catch the elevator (there are stairs to the elevator?!?!) but the attendant came quickly both times so no worries.
This place is pretty cool! Ghirardelli has a few buildings here. I stopped at the actual chocolate store. I had to try a few different items and they do not disappoint. The only reason for the 4 stars is because the price is pretty hefty. But still worth trying it at least once. Definitely recommend this place if your down in the area or close by.
Usually a line - 39 mins wait - at the weekend. Bit on the expensive side - $6 for a single scoop of ice cream. 10% off with a coupon at the back of your cable car ride ticket if youve done one. Good service (but why only one register when theres a big line outside). Free parking for 4 hours nearby but theyll also validate for 25+ in purchase. Great walk down the sea
We walked to Ghirardelli Square at night, after having dinner at Scomas. We didnt get to spend much time there, but it was nice. There are a few educational areas to learn about the chocolate process, lots of chocolate goodies, and of course we had to have the World Famous Hot Fudge Sundae. It did not disappoint. It was pretty busy, but the staff was very friendly and we didnt have to wait long.
We tried the Warm Brownie Sundae. Definitely share!! I would love to see a simpler menu with more clear actionables to customize. Like the warm brownie sundae is basically the fudge chocolates sundae with a warm-ish brownie. So just say, add-on: Warm brownie for $$$. It makes for a shorter and faster Menu scan.
My husband and two children visited from OK. I read that this was a 3-story ice cream shop type place. Not exactly what we expected. It’s lovely! Just different. There is an ice cream shop that serves deliciously rich treats. The upstairs was closed off. We walked around the plaza to find that the rest of the shops and restaurants are all very pricey and fancy. Not conducive for two children. This place seems perfect for a date night if you’re looking for a nice dinner and dessert after.
This place is small and fun, there’s the famous ghirardelli that sells tones of chocolate, many varieties of shops that allows you to spend half a day there. There’s arcade too if you are an arcade lover.Bubble tea is thereThere’s a famous dim sum shop tooSpend sometime queueing for the dessert ice cream, it will be worth it!If you like my review, leave a 👍🏻
A very cool place in heart of the city. No wonder why the brand is famous in chocolates and if you love chocolate you are in for a treat. Great ambience great place and great sundaes. Definitely a place to visit in San Francisco. And do try out the hot fudge sundae just to uplift your mood.
Love this gem in SF! Omg especially during Halloween. There’s always an event that’s kid friendly and family friendly. It’s now surrounded by pumpkins 🎃 how fun ❤️ and you can’t for the Ghirardelli’s chocolates and Ice cream! Lots to see. Lots of beautiful views. A mini golf. Restaurants and foods. Always a fun time here.
A must visit in San Francisco! We enjoyed the ocean beach and gold rush sundaes. Expensive but delicious and a great vacation memory!! We waited in line at the crowded storefront at the square entrance, only to later find the huge marketplace further back. The marketplace was the quicker place to get ice cream & chocolates.
Food was very good. Eating areas were pretty dirty and not sanitized very well. They were on top of making sure you were vaccinated though which was appreciated.
It is the first Ghirardelli place that I visited ! Nice atmosphere and setting! Great welcome with a big smile and a chocolate bar! I was amazed by the chocolate bar choices and gift packages! I bought prepacked bags of chocolate bars! It was a great experience! It is highly recommended!!!
Being an ice cream lover and having tried many other wonderful ice cream makers, the quality of this ice cream is far from excellence and goodness. If you want the texture of uniqueness of full frothed cream, this is the place … if what you wish is real ice cream, this place is not. The chocolate ice cream I ordered was made out of chocolate powder … the taste was far from chocolate flavour! I am sorry to disappoint the owners … or lovers of frothed full cream!
So when we joined the line I asked how long the line was, the attendant told me 8-10 minutes. 35 minutes later we finally were able to order. The raspberry cooler was awesome but huge. Definitely shareable. Frozen hot chocolate was also really good. Not huge but still big enough to share. Got full size chocolate bars for free for joining mailing list. Everything was delicious. Service was no good. Not one staff member smiled or looked happy, they all seemed annoyed they were there.
Love chocolate, go here. You wont regret it!!
Fun to visit but expensive. The sundaes are great and there a lot of chocolate gifts available for purchase
Looks really nice and vintage. I tried hot cocoa and it was yummy, but the price is not cheap lol
Ive never been to a chocolate factory prior to coming here. The only thing Ive ever known was what I saw on Willy Wonkas movies. While the Ghirardelli factory was lacking singing Oompa-Loompas, it made up for it with delicious ice cream, extremely old, but in amazing condition chocolate making equipment, and a bustling market place. The square was equipped with an entertainment area, cheese making studio, retail space, and even a bar area to sit down and relax a bit. Im a huge nerd and really enjoyed reading the information about Ghirardelli and the factory, including the informational signage above all the equipment. I think that people, even ones who may not be as into history or learning about the processes, as I am, would enjoy this place. There are plenty of things to do and see to make it an enjoyable afternoon. It really struck me as a good family place, since there were attractions that catered to a wide-array of interests, ages, and tastes. Im glad that we visited here, and I would recommend this stop to anyone wanting to see the sights in San Francisco.
You dont go for the ice cream, you go because its an institution. Service is fast and super friendly, food is so so, but the experience (and sugar body) help to revive you. Worth a quick visit for the smells alone.
Amazing place, 100% a must for every traveler to SF, its full most of the day please be ready to make a line between 15-30 minutes as minimum.the best sundae of my life for sure!!
The classic tourist destination in SF is fun for locals too! This ice cream and chocolate shop are located right in the heart of Ghirardelli Square -- though on the pricey side, the servings are large and shareable and the ice cream SO good. I got cookies and cream scoop in a waffle bowl with dark chocolate fudge and almond on top -- SO. GOOD. I really liked the richness of the dark chocolate fudge with the ice cream. My friends got the Golden Gate banana split and its the classic, textbook example of delicious ice cream and banana sundae. They loved it too!
A must stop in San Francisco for a laid back stroll surrounded by nice stores. The best place to clothe your pet too, the store there has all sizes of many styles.
A very fun attraction in San Francisco only steps away from Pier 39. The best tourist shops are here.
Overpriced. Not worth the money. The Sunday was equivalent to a McDonald’s fudge Sunday. A little higher quality, but not really worth the price (even by vacation spending standards). $15 for a small Sunday just isn’t worth it.
Of course a tourist favorite. Great chocolate, fun things to do, and great shopping in a nice area by the bay!
Perfect mix of views, vibes, and food! The whole Ghirardelli complex is a must visit for the smell alone! Chocolate and food items are premium! We
Delicious! You wont be disappointed ..great staff great place to visit!
Some lady was acting out and the manager told her to leave. She started cussing and yelling it was crazy but once I got my hot dink i didnt have a care in the world omg sooo delish!!!
I went here on October 2nd 2021 during the evening. I got white mocha and a nice cashier guy helped me but then he got replaced by a short girl after I picked up couple of chocolate squares. She was extremely rude and seemed agitated. She told me cashier across can help me with chocolate squares. When the cashier girl across seemed to take forever, I went back to that short girl to just make sure I was not cutting in line. When I asked her if that’s the right line, she was extremely rude and seemed to attempt to make a mockery out of me with attitude and tones. The tall girl with colored brows then got replaced by that short girl and then I got stuck with this unfriendly cashier. She charged almost $17 for just couple of chocolate squares. When I asked her to repeat because I didn’t hear her first time, she then yelled. She had extremely poor customer service and bad attitude. She should not be working in customer service industry.Receipt says her name is Maggie CGhirardelli please consider customer inputs. Thanks.
Definitely a must! You have to try any of the hot or cold chocolates and of course buy some squares
Please have something from here. The hot chocolates are to die for!
The line was okay for Memorial Day, and the hot fudge on that Sunday was worth it and perfectly layered as to not overwhelm the ice cream flavor but have a bit with every bite. Plus, that is a specific whipped cream flavor that doesn’t taste like it came out of a can.The store part has a lot of chocolate options for gift bags, and the QR code to get a chocolate bar gives a full size chocolate bar with a filling inside. A pretty amazing trade for an email sign up list.
Whether you like chocolates or not, this is a must-visit place when in SF, and will not disappoint you. Been here several times, and theres always something new or different. Store staff and people in the area are generally following all Covid-19 protocols and being relatively safe, which is much appreciated.
I normally do not say anything negative but my experience wasnt so great. Being a tourist attraction long lines are expected. All lines were pretty long so we just picked one. Menus were handed so that you knew which hot fudge, banana split or shake to order. Wifey elected for hot cocoa and cookies since the weather was bellow 70F. 40 minutes go by and we finally got to order. The clerk informed us that the cookies were not actually available for sale, even after showing her the menu. She opted for a chocolate dipped cone. They didnt have any. A chocolate factory did not have chocolate readily available to dip their ice-cream cones. Needless to say the wifey was pretty disappointed. In the other 30 minutes we had to wait for our order, there were another 3 customers that were dissatisfied with one actually making a scene.
This place ales the best ice cream treats ever. Worth every penny I love when my friends and family come and visit so I have an excuse to bring them here so I can get more ice cream.
Came here a couple of years ago with some friends after dinner for that perfect dessert / drink at the cafe. I got the hot chocolate with whipped cream while one of my friends went crazy with his sundae and banana split. Lots of sugar and calories for sure, and yes its expensive, but very much worth it if youre in town! Theres a whole marketplace next to the cafe which has a plethora of confectionaries to buy as well.
Enjoyed the atmosphere and Wonderful view. Celebrated Mom Birthday she had s Great time.
We usually visit this place everytime we go to San Francisco. Place clean, orderly. They ask for your vaccination card and ID if you want to eat inside. I bought chocolates by the weight. I chose the mini chocolates I like and put it in a plastic bag then paid by the weight. Maybe 15 pieces for almost $10. We also ordered a small sundae ice cream, one with topping, one without. It cost about $15 for both. It was a big serving for a small order. So yummy as usual. I miss those days when they give away candy to taste.
First time here and oh man this is heaven for anybody with a sweet tooth. Just be aware of the prices being high for SF and just enjoy it honestly. Their sundaes are top notch and can’t be beaten. Plus bunch of cool other shops to walk it off.
It was a truly great experience to visit the shops at Ghirardelli Square. The architecture, people watching/human theatre, food and ice cream are unique (in my experience) and worthy of return trips. The ice cream shop is AWESOME!!!
Loved this spot! Great place to do some shopping, dining, snacking, and chilling. We were visiting from NYC. One thing that’s difficult back home is finding a clean public bathroom that doesn’t require you to buy something in order to access. So we were very pleasantly surprised to find this place has a lovely public restroom that felt very sanitary and cared for- and didn’t require you to pay a cent! Definitely a sweet spot to spend time with the whole family, and don’t forget to pick up a sweet treat!
Shop was a little confusing, and I didnt find myself interested in anything despite loving chocoalte and intending to buy something. Im not a Ghirardelli fan though. The store was clean, and there were other interesting stores in the Ghirardelli Center... Also, we parked in this garage for 2 days, no problems, saved 30 bucka vs parkong at our nearby hotel.
This is a wonderful Ghirardelli square stop near the end line of the cable car very much worth the visit beautiful fountain display with pumpkins very irritating I actually walked away from a vendor because of it
The ice cream was outstanding. Wish there was a little more directions when entering the building, figured out I was wrong and self corrected( or maybe there was and I didnt see it). Other than that everything was great.
The cashier made the long wait well worth it. The sea salt hot cocoa definitely hit the spot on that cold night. I will definitely be returning when in town.
Great ice cream! Tje world famous sundae is the best.
This is a really cool historic place to visit. Lots of chocolate options, ice creams and sundaes. Cool how you can go up 5 floors in an elevator and walk out to the street just up the hill!
Great ice cream and shakes, long ordering lines and waiting
We had a great time here! The atmosphere was very nice, especially the fall themed fountain in the square. We had a classic hot cocoa and a sea salt caramel cocoa, both were delicious!
This place is awesome!!! And the taste and quality is on point!
Love their ice creams and love the fact that if you ask for a cone, you get it in a little boat so you dont dirty yourself! Finally someone who heard our pain😅
Nice, clea n pleasant
Always a treat to stop by Ghirardelli when in San Francisco. Picked up some assorted caramel treats and enjoyed some ice cream before heading back home. The absolute best part, the chocolate covered waffle cone.
What more can a person say...hot fudge sundaes are simply delicious.
Wonderful place to get a drink, some chocolate and hang out at the beach. So peaceful and scenic we stayed for a while. There were many people actually swimming although it was in November in the 50s.Such a neat are to visit.
Beautiful Place for chocolate lovers! Also, you can walk from here to Pier 39 with some nice shops and stops by the bay on your way and back.
Ice cream was ok, just a little bit too expensive .
Visiting Ghirardelli Chocolate Shop during my trip to San Francisco last year was a memorable experience. Back then, everything was normal, and there was a short line when I visited the store around 6:30 pm. I placed an order for a medium Hot Cocoa and picked up one of their Ghirardelli Toffee Interlude bar. I found an empty table and waited for my order. I had my drink served in a few minutes. The Hot Cocoa was delicious! It had a rich flavor of chocolate topped with whipped cream. I was trying a Ghirardelli chocolate for the first time, and the candy bar was a perfect treat. I became a fan of Ghirardelli Chocolate after the first bite. I loved the velvety texture of the chocolate as it melted in my mouth. The caramelized almonds and crunchy toffee bits do create a nice blend along with the dark chocolate. After relishing my drink and chocolate bar, I enjoyed watching the exhibit that displays the chocolate manufacturing process. It was very satisfying to look at all the liquid chocolate! The aroma at the store is delightful. It can instantly make you happy when you are in the vicinity. They do have a merchandise section with a lot of chocolates and goodies. I wish I had the time to check out the different flavors of the Ghirardelli Squares. Id love to visit the store in the future and try more from the menu.
The staff here is SO SWEET, no pun intended. The sweets and treats are as yummy as youd expect, with a long line thats worth the wait. But the employees are incredibly kind, efficient, and pleasant.
Always busy. Enjoyed new stuffs.. delicious. Loved live music in recent visit. Will suggest to Jeep the sugar level low. Too sweet.
Another must seen location at San Francisco. The desert we got was very delicious with the view of Alcatraz!
Delicious desserts and treats. Three different stores to get chocolates from. Closes early, so be sure you allow yourself time to look around without being rushed.
Amazing chocolate. You should definitely try their ice cream as well
Very disappointing... No free sample as promised multiple times on the Bug Bus Tour busses. :-( Also, the selection of chocolate was less diverse than at Costco...
I absolutely gobbled down the classic Sundae for sure! But the prices are just a little high. They know what they can charge and they charge it, and what they serve is good! But be aware. Sundae was 13 dollars. But definitely a worthy stop for any visit to the piers.
We stop by whenever were in the area. We got a frozen hot chocolate this time. It took a pretty long time to get the drink. It was ok. I think we both expected it to be more chocolatey. The paper straws definitely folded under the pressure. We went through 4 just to finish the drink!
Great ice cream and candies. Friendly staff. Free chocolate bar if you join their email list.
I grew up eating Ghirardelli ice cream and the best neighborhood ice cream.
Very crowded, good ice cream and chocolate.Server delivered wrong items to our table. When we told server of the error his comment was see the cashier. Server refused to correct situation or even attempt to correct the situation.Sad experience, long wait, high prices, lousy server and service. The memory of the lousy service lingers on well beyond the thoughts of the ice cream.
$13 for Sundaes but worth it for taste and the memories.
The foremost and original Ghirardelli outlet in the world is this one in San Francisco. I went there twice, once on a Thursday and then on a Saturday. To my surprise, the whole outlet was full with people on both the days. We tried Cookie and Cream shake, hot chocolate and the famous sundae, all of where upto the mark. Finding a parking is really a challenge in the area, so pay attention there. It could be said that the price is on the higher side here.
Some of the worlds finest chocolate is served at this classy, San-Francisco- themed ice cream & soda parlor. A hit spot for both locals & tourists. Drinking chocolate here is absolutely delicious. Dairy free ice cream options as well. 10/10, would recommend.
Kind of underwhelming. Nothing like Hersheys. Was thinking there would be some version of a factory tour and a unique gift shop for chocoholics. Neither was true. Basic products you can get anywhere. I did go with 3 stars as it was pretty, clean, and had easily accessible barhrooms.
Neat little gift shop. Nothing you couldnt find somewhere else.
Chocolate factory has a huge variety of item and specialty of food, dessert and treats. Not as big for us bc we can get Ghirardelli chocolate in the area where we live.
