This is such a great store! Ive been to a fair number of stationary stores in the city and this is by far one of my favorites. Fantastic selection of anything you could need.

Excellent quality stationery items, many of which are imported from Japan, at very reasonable prices. The store is small, so you wont feel overwhelmed, well organized and tidy. A must visit if you are in Nihonmachi. Yasukute, kirei desu ne!

If you are a pen or pencil freak like me, this is your place!! The prices can be high however I found writing utensils here that Ive never even heard of or came across elsewhere! Its worth the trip and Japantown on its own is a really neat place to see!! We came just so I could check out this shop and discovered so much more.

Very cute place. It doesnt carry all the items Id usually buy but it has the products you wont find in most art/stationery stores. Its much more expensive, though, and they dont seem to offer discounts and memberships. But its still fun to walk around in, youre likely to browse for hours.

Really great selection but the prices can be exorbitant. I was interested in trying out a few of the fountain pens but the selection of testers was dissapointing. They could have made a sale if they had everything on offer inked up & ready to go. Instead our interests were dismissed when we suggested that they just dip a nib in some ink so that we could simply try to write with the pens we were most interested in. One of the clerks did try to search for replacement cartridges for a couple of pens but her coworker seemed bothered by our continued interest in the different pens. Well be back eventually, but this visit has dampened our expectations.

They should consider retraining some of their employees to be at least just a little pleasant 🙄Anyway, they have a large variety of selection for gifts which is good (+ some very cute stuff) but they are overpriced even for the quality. Some things are the same price as other quite well-known (& better quality) branded goods at downtown.I still buy some things because they have a lot of adorable things, and they are probably expensive because everything is imported from Japan? The store is quite packed with merchandise so careful when you walk around :)

It seems to be getting more difficult to find ball point pen replacement refills in the city. I called 4 or 5 places before trying here. I had no problem finding what I needed. Friendly helpful staff, good prices. Lots of cool gift ideas.

They have a terrific selection and I was hapoy to discover the largest collection of fountain pens in the area. Then I looked at the prices - exorbitant! Most of the pens are double the cost, if not more, than what you can find online! Yes, I expect brick and mortar stores to be expensive, and I actually prefer to buy my pens from a physical store even with the extra cost, but their prices were laughable!

The Maido store in Santana Row (Santa Clara area) is actually a lot better than the one in San Francisco. This one doesnt have as many variety of stationery. However, Maido stationery stores is exactly what their name is all about (stationery and gifts). They have pens, pencils, paper, notebooks, folders, stamps, food erasers, arts, craft supplies, and even cool stuff like paper wallets, star wars metal models, and stuffed animals. Its an interesting store.

From my kid’s time and after 5 Decades I found my Great 👍 Hobby Place ( Maido ) in the field of writing ✍️ & calligraphy ( Fountain Pens + Inks ).Great Management and welcoming staff, especially the Manager explained me about my any question and her expertise made me to purchase fountain pens and its inks in different colors. This was my first ever visit to Japan Center and I recommend this place is a unique place with its Great collections of Fountain Pens + Inks. Thanks 👍👍👍✍️ Maido.

Rude. I was so shocked when I heard a male Japanese employee repeatedly calling a customer old hag while he and another female Japanese employee were chatting in Japanese. Japanese is my native tongue so I completely understood what they were talking about. At the time there were no customers than me in the store so I assume they thought no one would understand. Maybe that was a bad day for them, but Ive never done business with them since then as I was too shocked and frightened thinking what they are thinking about customers behind their polite-looking smile.

Their selection is great! They have all the stationery/school stuff youd find in Kinukuniya stores not in SF. And they have Preppy Pens! My favorite Japanese fountain pen. However, the reviewer who mentioned that their prices are weird is right. Preppy pens usually cost around $2 in the US, here they are $4. While this might not seem like a big deal, preppy pens are like Bic pens. Not meant to be pricey, even in import.I noticed the same with their Campus notebooks, which cost a few dollars more than Im used to paying.Thats why the 3 star rating as opposed to 4. Because theyre the only place I know of to get many of these supplies, youre stuck on these prices. Its a shame, too, as I do love coming here.

There are actually two Maido stores in the Japan Center. The store upstairs is more of a stationery store, while the store downstairs has a lot of offbeat gift sorts of things. Youll probably want to check out both. The Japanese have an obsession with stationery items, so Maido has a lot of cool pens, pencils, erasers, and other desktop tools. It is a fun place just to browse around.

As a fan of fountain pens I was so delighted to find this store. They have a huge selection of fountain pens, inks and stationary as well as other art supplies. One thing to note is that there are two Maido stores in the same building and the one I wanted to go to was on the second floor. It took me some time wandering around to realize that. While your here be sure to pick up some Ramen or Udon from the neighboring restaurants.

This store feels way over priced but it does have things some other stores might not. I saw a 5 pack of markers there that were 25.99$ but were 9.99$ at Blick Art Studio. So tip, if you something you like here look it up and see if any big brand stores carry what your looking for for a cheaper price.

Cute shop in Japan Center that offers a good selection of paper goods, notebooks and pens. They have a nice selection of travel items as well. The store is small, and can get a bit claustrophobic, so if that sort of thing bothers you, avoid it on weekends when its busy.

Review №33

Nice enough storefront, with a wide variety of supplies. However, their prices seem very arbitrary, especially on their higher-end items. A pen that could be found from most retailers for $80, they price at $110. Even mid-range fountain pens, usually retailing for about $20, are being sold for closer to $40! They do let you sample and test the pens, but the prices are far too high to justify the purchase.

Expensive Japanese stationery stores with strict rules about drinks, checking in bags, or making any moves that seem suspicious to them. Good variety of merchandise, but have overall very low trust of anyone who comes through their door. Must have a theft problem or something. Not all that pleasant.

This store has so many cute things and I was so tempted to pick up washi tape and stickers, but they were a bit overpriced in my opinion. Its difficult for me to want to purchase items from this store when I could easily make a trip to Daiso and purchase very similar items for much cheaper. Although, Ill say their selection of washi tape is much more extensive and seems like the rolls are larger, it was hard to purchase anything here given Daiso is so nearby.
