Clean. Friendly. The average tag price is 28 - 40. Great finds for personal your closets.
Great store, nice layout and great pieces. Came to sell my dad’s vintage clothing and got a great price for several special items. Bonus that it is BIPOC owned and predominately BIPOC staff (since many vintage stores I’ve been to is always the same white hipsters), thank you! Will be back soon to sell and buy.
I LOVE this place! They have a great selection of both modern and vintage pieces. The women’s denim is definitely a highlight for me. I haven’t found my perfect pair of vintage denim yet, but every time I come in there’s always a few new additions. The hunt is always the best part anyways! Just a tip: sometimes they organize items by size based on the tag, and often it doesn’t match modern sizes. I bought a pair of shorts that were marked a 29 and in the 7-8 section but they were really a 26/27. So make sure to look through the bigger sizes just in case. The men’s section is incredible btw. No matter how you identify, you’ll find something cool or unique! The things that are current aren’t cheap shein or F21 from what I’ve seen, so you can tell they select their items carefully. I know because I brought in a big bag of clothes to sell, and they picked only a few items. I know this may bother some folks, but you have to go in with that expectation (it’s a business after all) The return is 35% in cash which is a little better than places like crossroads/Buffalo exchange/platos closet. It’s important to support a smaller business too! The wait also wasn’t too long. I’ve had a positive experience with the employees. I’ve been greeted every time, and they always ask to prepare a fitting room when they notice that you’ve grabbed some items. They also have an Instagram where they post some of their inventory. Overall the vibes are good!
Great prices and good staff
I found this place from a friend a I really enjoyed the little store; it was clean, color coded, and had cute things. Unfortunately, it seemed all very overpriced for used clothing. I am not sure what it was but the entire time I was shopping the staff seemed to be standoffish and even rude at times. When asking to try on clothes it didn’t seem like customers were first priority along with rude comments to questions we asked.
This place is extremely haunted. It was a brothel and speakeasy and part of a network of buildings that had tunnels under them in the 1920s during prohibition. The madame who ran it also had other girls working in buildings up and down Sunol, it at fist was boarding house for cannery workers than converted into a house of ill repute. The back stairs were where you walked up with a ticket from a different speakeasy down the street or the one below and you would purchase your service with a girl in those very tiny cramped crib rooms. The chief of police at the time partied there! VERY creepy vibe and when I did visit this place after it was an antique shop which I was WELL acquainted with and spent a lot of time in there when very empty. Now as Black and Brown, their clerks also profile you and follow you around like you are going to steal they are the worst at client service and are overcharging. Why am I giving this two stars instead of one? because if you are into the paranormal nd the history of San Jose then this place is rocking ... hang out get some EVPS the people working here should just let ghost hunters come here and do some work and maybe they will get more business and lower their prices on their hipster stuff. Another San Jose business trying too hard to be hip cool, the city with the chip on its shoulder when it comes to culture. Sorry youre not Berkeley, SF or Oakland. It shows. Get over yourselves hipster San Jose it aint that deep and you arent that cool. Also burn some sage will ya? Drove all the way down to the South Bay to deal with this place while doing errands at another place that also had attitude. lame waste of gas.
I got a pair of jeans for my husband here and he loved it!
Nice store, friendly staff and great prices!!First time Ive been there!!
Amazing staff!!! Nice customer service!!! Thank you!!!!
I read other’s google reviews and it seems to be a good vintage Store. Plus, My daughter and I would like to support small local business. Unfortunately, my daughter was treated like a thief /shoplifter when she shopped inside for less 30 minutes. She was embarrassed by store clerk following her the entire time.Overall, I went back to yelp for 2nd opinion. OMG, Lots of people got the same experiences being threat like thieves or shoplifters. She bought 3 pieces clothes with very unpleasant experiences. I dont think that she would like to wear them.
Love it! The whole store is aesthetically pleasing, with a sort of retro, boho vibes. There are definitely some good corners of the store and mirrors to do some photoshoots with the gems you buy. I got an adorable denim skirt and jacket, and there were so many good items there. The price depends on what you buy, so a range from 10 dollars to 50, so what I bought was pricier than I intended($78). They have a large variety, spanning from more basic tops to upscale, newer to vintage. My friend got a great Zara top, and my other friend got a cute vintage Thrasher tee. We had a great time taking photos with the retro sunglasses. Service was good, not super amazing, but definitely not bad. Definitely coming here again!
Excellent store nice and friendly staff they make you feel at homeThe clothing there very nice and if you cant find what you need. They will definitely help you with that. The store is very clean and decorated beautifully.
The clothes are cute, but to be honest a lot of the items I picked up had stains (not big or anything but enough to catch my attention) and the staff is extremely stand offish and not gonna lie - a little rude (except for the girl with short black hair she was really sweet and helpful) and the main guy there was just super short with me and my friends soooo yea! If you want somewhat expensive stained clothes and an intimidating staff slide on thru! (Also heads up to anyone not petite, the store is more than most petite sizes which isnt their fault but definitely something to consider before going in)also its v pricey $$$$$
Incredible shop. Fun and knowledgeable staff, clean and well displayed items. Excellent blend of decades of clothing and accessories. If youre a fanatic about vintage clothing as I am, you will be captivated browsing the racks of this timeless store. Everytime I visit Im amazed at the selection of new items for sale. The buyers do have a discretionary eye, which is part of why I rarely worry over the quality or condition of an item after I bring it home. Items are priced very fairly, theyre clean and in ready to wear condition. No detail is over looked on an item prior to being put on display. In my opinion, this placed is a guaranteed great shopping experience.
This place has the best energy. Everyone is awesome from the owner to employees!! It smells great in there too.
Black and Brown is on the Neue wave of honest thrift stores that are selective about what they sell, clean the pieces, and elevate the shopping experience with some tasteful decor + aroma. A plus: it’s in an old house where each room has a different spread of offerings from jewelry to bags to blankets to incense. Fun to root around a place like that. I drive from Santa Cruz to come here!
Love the men’s section and adore the women’s. Only thing is that the women’s clothes are petite, but it’s not their fault I’m fat lol 🤡
Cute staff. A bit pricey but its okay. Nice authentic staff, nice vintage bags. Organized and clean.
Always on a treasure hunt. I saw lots of cute clothes. It is hard to find my sizes.
Found some awesome boots and vest. Fun music too!! People very friendly and helpful.
Decent prices, fun selection and a clean well kept store. They both buy and sell new and vintage items. I fell in love with a pair of fantastic boots that were two sizes too small, oh the woes of vintage finds.
Ive bought two excellent pairs of Doc Marten low-quarter shoes here. Yes, they are picky. I brought in some cool EMT pants because theyre very well made, etc and they didnt want them, but I ended up buying that 2nd pair of Docs. This place has a lot of cool stuff!Im headed there tomorrow because I lost my fleece pullover and just trying finding something thats not all-out winter clothing, just a thing for spring/fall wear in April in the regular stores. Theyve had their post-winter sales and cleared that stuff out, and now its warm-weather clothing.I dont care that I wont need it in a month or so and wont wear it until maybe October, Im chilly in the evenings now. These places tend to keep a good mix of stuff year-around.
Cool vintage store with very good selection, even of mens items which is always surprising. Its definitely priced as a vintage store not a thrift shop if you understand my meaning
Quick professional service, and the multipurpose art collective feel of the place made it familiar. Personable staff. Helpful and respectful of space
Its a hit or miss for me, depending on what is brought and what season it is. That reflects what they have as well. Though they had a bottega vendetta wallet for half of retail that was almost new. Great finds and they pay bit more than other places
Great professional service and nice selection of clothes. Really like this place.
Love the selection cant wait to go back and pick up some new threads
They are very picky about what they purchase. I was insulted when they offered me $30 for a pair of vintage Frye boots in great condition. Needless to say I will be selling these bootson eBay and taking my other vintage things to another consignment shop.
Lots of great clothes. i pick up a couple items almost every time i go. cant say that for most other stores.
They have this awesome variety of clothes. The Staff is friendly and helpful.
Has descent items but for the price(pretty pricey for consignment) you’d be better off shopping full retail price for the newest merch. Staff was mediocre.
Great costumer service, friendly and knowledgeable. They also had a great selection of clothes.
Nice vintage shopping spot. Love the smell of the store!!!
Local 2nd-hand thrift shop. Good place to buy/sell clothes. They have some quality items for good prices.
Like it when I can afford it nice and friendly sales people. And nice clothes for all types of people.
My wife loves it here! So if shes happy, Im happy. Lol
My all time favorite second hand shop. I drive all the way from SF to shop here!
I say dont waste your time bring stuff in unless its worth a fortune .they are extremely picky as if you bring in a item and they sell a similar item dont 3xpect them to buy yours lo
There is no reason to come to this store I used to live it an come all the time until I got band because my girlfriend at the time tried to sell her purse to some other coustmer. An I wasnt there when this happened then I went in a week later an I got treated like a theft an got the manger called up an she was very crass an volger to me. I used to love this store but there heads have been to far up each others butts for to long. They have an additude like there so much better then you.
Cool vintage clothing shop. Need more mens selection, but still cool.
Edgy, unique finds. Great particularly if youre petite.
Good selection at a decent price. They sell brand names more than obscure thrift store finds though
I live in Portland Oregon and every time Im in San Jose I have to stop at Black and Brown! I always find something amazing.
Nice Store Ty For A Good Service
State of the art customer service, very comfy couches, clothes on much fleek wow
Really curated but also really really expensive.
I dont even want to give it one star double zero is what this business deserves
Selection for men isnt as great as the womens, not even close, and their pricing for selling items is difficult at times.
High prices and they tried 2 say a real louis vuitton purse i had was a knock off. i wont be back and neither will my friends
Pricy but awesome
Good variety. Cool atmosphere
Cool spot, friendly staff good finds, love the vibe of the place
Because you can found luxurious things
It was cool i would go back
Nice selection of clothes
Always friendly staff, always interesting finds!
Really cool atmosphere, friendly staff, and amazing variety of clothes
Really expensive. Good environment though
Well curated selection of stylish and funky clothing
Seems to be closed. Papers over all windows, no signs up. Nobody answers the telephone either.
Pretty snobby, Id recommend Crossroads if youre going for consignment.
Very nice and clean place!
Worker was rudeInsultingClothes r priced highNot much of a selection
