We were on our way to Big Sur when we lost our brakes. I called the last place that had done our brakes since I found the brake line bracket missing a bolt, the line broke off at the caliper. They said they would take care of but I needed to take it to a auto shop that was a part of their network. The three shops I was told to contact, only one said they would look at my vehicle that day. When I showed up to that one shop being towed, they changed their story and said that I would be looking at 4 days before they would possibly complete it. Our vacation was only a week long and at the tow truck drivers recommendation we went around the corner to this place. I cannot thank Daniel enough!!! He said he would do his best to get to it that day. He ended up manufacturing a brake line that closely resembled the factory brake line. He was kind enough to rinse my truck to try and avoid any damage from the brake fluid. I took it back to the original place that did the brake job. He stated that the line that Daniel manufactured resembles the factory line and it was done extremely well. Thanks to Daniel and this shop we were able to enjoy our vacation with just a slight delay. I also felt he was more than fair for what he charged me.

Good service and the guys are cool and down to earth.Also they have reasonable prices for work, Combined that with a convenient location its a good place to go for car repairs.FYI It doesnt bug me but if you are one of those paranoid peeps it may bug you......They maintained social distance and have Shields on the counter but they where not wear masks.Personally I Dont care but if you do I suggest either go elsewhere and pay more or bring lysol wipes and wear a N95 mask.

This is the WORST EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE WITH AN AUTO SHOP.

This place was a miracle stop for us. We were traveling from another city on the 101 and suddenly my car started making noises like I had a flat but my sensor wasnt going on. We had to make a random emergency stop off the fwy. There was a gas station and what I thought was only a smog shop across the street. But it turns out it was also an auto repair place! This was the Monday after the 4th of July but they were open and so friendly. No promises were made because it was only a couple more hours until closing time but they said they would look at it and do what they could. We took a short walk and found a super cool used lp and cd shop (music is always a good omen), bought some Paul Simon and Bob Segar, walked back and they told us they would be able to squeeze our repair in before closing time! We walked 5 mins down the street and ate at a reeeeeally good Mexican food place, and were on the road just a couple hours later. These guys are stand up people. They didnt BS me, they were hospital and I fully recommend this repair shop. Thank you everyone for making our trip safe and happy!!!! :)

Daniel was polite and informative when i phoned about getting my smog done. was in and out the day i went. half hour as mentioned. daniel happened to also be the desk guy when i went in for the smog. he was cheery and fabulous. a great experience all the way around. thanks!!

Was recommended this garage on short notice when we got an error message for a 7th cylinder misfire. We dropped it off at around 1030 and were told it would be done sometime same day since they werent that busy. We checked in a couple times throughout the day and the van was looked at just around 430/5. They closed at 5 so they seemed in a hurry. Turned out to be 2 bad wires which they offered a lower price to purchase used ones vs new since they said it would have to be all 8. We were charged 1 hour labor, diagnostic and wires and came at just under $200. My partner thinks this garage may be overpriced but we were out of options. They were by no means rude but perhaps not that interested in spending more time on the vehicle if it needed it, since it was past closing.

Went in for a smog test with no appointment. There was several other customers ahead of me. The staff was really friendly and had my car done and ready to go in under 45 minutes. Pleasant experience. Would recommend.

They provided thorough, and quick service. They appear knowledgeable. However they are not abiding by state mandated Covid protocols and a technician refused to wear a mask when interacting with myself and other customers. If you are concerned about public health, I would recommend bringing your vehicle elsewhere

For a second I thought it was just me, but waiting in the office chairs I realized that other people where struggling to understand what he was communicating. Instead of realizing he was not being understood and taking breath to explain himself better he just had this annoyed attitude towards people.Pretty awkward and a bad business model.Ended up leaving, waste of time.

They always go above and beyond. I took my beat up old Corolla in a few years back and they never made me feel uncomfortable for driving such a run-down car. I brought my Ford Ranger in a couple weeks ago for oil change / tire rotation and they went above and beyond by identifying/fixing a broken brake light. Next, I brought my Dodge Ram in b/c the check engine light came on so I asked them to diagnose that while also doing a visual inspection - long story short, they spent several hours diagnosing the check engine light and paused their search in order to communicate with me so that they didnt incur a higher fee. I appreciate that very much and will be bringing all of my cars here in the future - I suggest you do the same.

Ive been going to Nick at Brakes Plus for years and he is frequently referred by other mechanics.I even bought a car from him a few years ago.He has a clean, uncluttered shop, is very knowledgeable about a large varieyt of cars, and can often fit you in with short notice. Fast and fair on smog certification with the State email system working flawlessly. He is honest and has utmost integrity in his suggested repair approach.

This shop was recommended by AAA. I was having an issue with my car caused by a loose battery the grounded out the system. It required a tow, power plant would start but would die when put in gear. They guys at San Luis auto repair and Smog found the problem while I was in the parking lot being dropped. They informed me that they had a junk yard and could probably get the part needed at minimal cost. The car was dropped at 9:30 and was ready for pick up by 12:30. It only cost a minor $105.00 which was grateful for. I will use them for all of my repairs from now on.

(I had posted this on the other reviewing pin for this service since there are two but this is a copy paste FYI.) This is a great shop with honest service and good prices. If I had one complaint its that its not open on the weekends and its hard for me to go in during the week, but thats just my own scheduling. I came here after being cheated with repairs at the local Nissan dealership (Coast Nissan) which I recommend people avoid. The folks at San Luis Auto Repair were very prompt and honest about my oil change and even clued me in that my brakes were due for a replacement. They didnt force the issue and even pointed out the repair could be put off for another month or so. I came back a little later and had it done and they were quick and efficient. It didnt cost too much too. I really enjoy this place and I hope they keep it up because finding good repair for a Nissan in SLO is difficult.

Great smog shop and wonderful staff! After noticing an improperly routed vacuum line on my engine during a visual inspection, they directed me across the street to Napa autoparts and told me what I needed in order to correct the line and pass smog. They waited for me to return with the part and corrected the issue before finishing the smog test. Rather than failing me, telling to fix it, and then making me pay for a retest, they went out of their way to assist me. When I inquired how much I owed for labor, I was told not to worry about it. Shocked I insisted on at least tipping the mechanic for his help and advice, however he refused to accept my tip. This is an honest shop with amazing customer service and fair prices.

I was having brake vibrations and knew Id have to pay to get a definitive diagnosis. I didnt want to waste my money (i.e. surprise, it wasnt actually what we thought it was) so wanted a reputable shop. From reading reviews, Brakes Plus seemed like the best place.First impressions were good. The shop was neat and tidy and Nick was initially very responsive. I dropped the car off and waited awhile in their lobby. While I was waiting, I noticed that there were only 3 mechanic certificates on the wall even though there were 5 mechanics. Looking closer, two of the certificates were for mechanics that werent there. But even if they had been, they were both expired anyway. That didnt instill a lot of confidence.Eventually I got bored so I went for a walk. They said they would call me when the car was done but over an hour later I hadnt gotten a call so I walked back to see what was up. Turns out they had finished over half an hour ago and just didnt call me. Great.When I got back, they told me the rear rotors and pads needed to be replaced. Since I didnt want to waste my money, I asked what would happen if that didnt fix the vibrations. I wanted them to stand behind their diagnosis but they just gave me the runaround. Basically, if new rotors and pads didnt fix the problem, too bad. Again, didnt exactly fill me with confidence. Getting any more information than that was like pulling teeth; despite being a paying customer, it was as if they had way better things to do than answer my questions. I guess you have to pay more for that privilege.The last straw was their price. They quoted me almost $460 just to replace rotors and pads and told me Id save almost $100 if I got it done then (free diagnosis). That seemed high so I declined and looked the parts up online when I got home. They wanted to charge me $126 per rotor and $66 for a set of pads whereas on Amazon the rotors cost $38 each and the pads cost $28 for a set. $318 vs $104 for the exact same parts. Somehow I doubt shipping costs $214.So in all, I payed $44 for a diagnosis that didnt mean jack because they wouldnt stand behind it, over an hour of my time because they didnt call me when the car was done, and a quote that was several hundred dollars north of reasonable.Their diagnosis did end up being correct, but Don at Certified Auto was able to diagnose the problem for free on the spot in a single question. Kind of makes me wonder why Brakes Plus needed $44 to come to the same conclusion and even then couldnt stand behind it.

Went by villa down the street after callling, seemed to be inconveniencing them by coming in so I headed right down the way to brakes plus, they informed me of a snafu in paper work from DMV that would have cost me an extra $10 but also given me last chance of passing with my 92 metro. Very polite, courteous, and genuinely wanted my business.. Thank you!

Want a quick SMOG test with no appointment. You found it. I have 3 cars and they have done all the SMOGS for the last 10 years.

I have taken my vehicle into this location two different times. Twice my vehicle has broken down the day after this shop attended to my vehicle. I do not know if the people here are honest or are committing fraud, but I am not spending another dime at this location.*In my opinion, I think people are being scammed here.*DO NOT TAKE YOUR VEHICLE HERE...FRAUD COULD BE AN ISSUE.

I’ve had my cars smogged here for a few years now.They are always Kind & Professional, and the Shop is always nice and clean.

Extremely expensive for just a smog. Last smog place I went to charged $60 for the first test, and a free retest if it fails. San Luis Auto charges $80, with a $50 retest.If you are just going for a smog, Id encourage you to avoid this place.
