REI at this particular store has an employee whom was rude, dismissive and therefore unhelpful; the employee’s attitude was immediate upon my asking if she worked here/there and only increased as I asked questions.I was so taken aback I did feel compelled to speak with manager about the incident. Nothing was actually done to reassure me customer service was important to the company so I did take my business elsewhere.I went to Santa Monica Bike Shop where the purchase of a beautiful bike for $1,104 was made (in under 5 min). We (gf and myself) came into REI with the intent of spending this money and my girlfriend getting a bike. I told the manager this but due to lack the of satisfactory customer service (by her as well, no action in response) they lost a quick and easy sale.I highly recommended Santa Monica Bike Shop which is just 1 mile down the road from REI. This REI is my go-to place for adventure gear. Byung in the camping department was very helpful :)

They are very kind and helpful. They offer quit large variety of product in several topics of outdoor activities.

Went to purchase a pair of hiking boots with no outdoors experience whatsoever and the associate was patient and knowledgeable. I love that they also have local hiking trails and outdoors activities posted on chalkboards throughout the store. Its a really nice touch and shows attention to detail.

Signs throughout the store apologize for low inventory due to pandemic-related supply difficulties. However, there seemed to be plenty of products to shop from. We love going to REI to see the latest in outdoor equipment innovations. Prices are a bit high, but quality is top notch.

Great experience. I was fumbling around with the backpacks trying to find the one I’d read about online. It was out of stock. The salesperson could sense that I really wanted that particular bag so she wasn’t pushy. Instead she confirmed that if I ordered it from REÍ online, that it would be in stock. Then, she made a guess at my size before offering to measure me for the back pack so I could order confidently online. Turns out she’d purchased the same pack a few years back so she even gave me some advice about it along with her personal review of it. I’ll be back for other gear needs.

Friendly staff and some of the best products sold there

The Santa Monica store has more of the pricier things in stock due to its location. It would be smart to use the website to see if a location has what you want in stock. This store is well lit and has a roomy layout which make it easy to navigate around in. Staff is always helpful and can be found whenever you need assistance or have questions about an item. This one has an upstairs.

Nice place, didnt find a dedicated parking there, so parked on the street. It has a good selection of everything, we were able to find everything that we needed (sleeping mats, crampons)

Its clean and has lots of space, but selection is small, and prices are a bit high but that probably a California thing. Staff tried to help but didnt know anything about solar chargers

Took my bike to get repaired here.They did a good job and had overall good customer service, but took forever and didn’t call me when it was ready or to confirm what repairs were needed and order parts, I had to call each time and ask making the whole process take longer than needed.I suspect they’re just very busy being in this area.

Excellent local merchant with wide varieties of outdoor gears. I found several items for my emergency kits for disaster preparation.

Terrible service for the bicycle repairs. This not my first experience with how bad they are . They installed a obviously inappropriate wheel without asking. No apologies, it’s taken them three weeks to install the correct one . I called every week to get an update and they just kept saying it will be ready ‘next week’ . When it finally was ready they never even bothered to call! Finally picked my bike up and front wheel is wobbling and seat is lose.. certainly wasn’t like that when I dropped the bike off - coincidence? Never going there again for anything. Fail.

Products are always AwsOMe! Staff lack product knowledge so robots to hand me a package might be more suitable! 🤔

If you want the highest quality of outdoor gear, clothing, and equipment, this is your place. The biggest selection of beautiful warm socks Ive ever seen. Lots of cool gadgets for starting a fire to cook on. I like the natural stove, in which you gather your own fuel, sticks, and kindling - no chemical fumes. Theres also a variety of gadgets for purifying water and making it potable. I have a nifty yoga mat handle from here and a cool jackknife.

I go in here all the time and every time I end up buying something. The staff are super helpful and I appreciate their expertise. its nice to get advice on backpacking from someone who did the PCT. Store is clean and they typically have stuff in stock that I need. I also appreciate their return policy. I have no problem paying retail prices knowing that after I give a product a thorough field testing, that I can return it if it fails. You cant do that online...

The lady helping me find hiking shoes disappeared. I was sitting there for 20min. Apparently she went home? Luckily their were two other staff that helped me and they were very kind and knowledgeable. Just wish my original saleswoman had told me the situation.

Ordered 2 ship to store purchases and went to pick these up just prior to the covid quarantine temporary store closing. Showed staff my receipts through the glass. Staff handed me a bag. Got in my car and headed home to find they only gave me one of my items. Disappointing!No way to contact the store now as their voicemail doesn’t accept messages so I have no idea what to do now..I thought they’d just mail these out since REI converted to online free shipping during store closures but I guess not.Would be nice to have some idea on what’s going on. This store has a fantastic bike shop tucked away in the back. Brian is an amazing mechanic with years of experience. Roman and some of the others are also top notch. They are all super patient and kind and cool to work with. I want to give 5 stars 20 times. Theyve worked on my kids bikes, my ebike, my cargo bike, etc. Never disappointed.

REI has been a nice Survivor in the world of Sporting Good retail stores for years, Ive been a member since the mid-90s. This branch is in the middle of Santa Monica California and The Sun Shines on this place 320 days out of the year. The staff here keeps everything immaculate, its always in good shape. I was asked at least three times if I needed help or had questions with anything during this visit. And Ive always enjoyed them hiring knowledgeable passionate staff, it makes a big difference.

Went in to get boots for our teenage daughter. She had fun browsing first, then we were helped by a very knowledgeable and relaxed employee. Great selection, great help, we ended up with what we needed. All in all, a great place for outdoor supplies.

REI is one of my favorite stores. I have several purses, bags and most of my luggage.The staff is extremely helpful. They know the stock and they are willing and able to spend time to help you.I can wander around here for a few hours. I try not to spend too much money here. Sometimes I succeed.

Employee in shoe department was prompt in helping us. While the shoes we wanted were not available in the size needed, she made every effort to verify that was true. Options were discussed & we ordered the shoes on-line.

As a San Rafael resident, I had been waiting 2 years (maybe 3) to redeem an REI gift card. Here on a beach trip, I finally found something that I want in an REI that doesnt cost an arm and a leg to supplement on my credit card. The service was helpful and friendly too. Finding those shoes, I can finally thank my friend for that gift card. HIP HIP HOORAY!!

Michele is a great teacher and so much fun to work with! We loved our dance lessons to prepare for the wedding so much, we will definitely go back just for fun!

The employee I talked to, Matt, answered all my questions perfectly. He had tons of advice on what I should take on my trip and could recommend the best gear based off his first hand experience. The cashier Abby was polite and talkative making the experience great from start to finish. I will definitely go again!

The amount of time the salespeople spent with us was remarkable. We were on the fence about some hiking boots, and ended up just buying socks. Rather than my normal MO of using brick and mortar as Amazons showroom, I would come back here when we are ready to buy.

08/2019I have since been back to this REI several times after my last review. Ive met some wonderful staff and managers on later visits that really made them worthwhile. Not only were they able to provide pertinent tips for trips Ive gone on but great customer service as well. If someone lacks the knowledge to answer your question, ask another. Some are more experienced than others in varying degrees - its a bit unreasonable to think everyone has tried everything. Most importantly, even the new staff do their best to keep up and wear a smile while they do it. Youve made a fan out of me.03/2019Understandably understaffed on a Monday night, had to wait about 45 min for help. Unfortunately, available staff was inexperienced and were unable to assist. Finally got a staff member who had some mileage under his belt but unfortunately we only had a few minutes to chat before the store closed and was unable to purchase everything I needed. A bit of a bummer since there are no REIs near me and Ill have to make another trip across town before I go camping this weekend.

So kind!! Friends and I came in looking for a first aid kit to use, and one of the employees just went to the back and gave us a bandaid for free! REI takes care of people.

Literally overheard Mike the manager say he is happy that a customer would choose Amazon over REI because he is a shareholder of Amazon....A a small business owner I was astounded....I also put my stuff down and left without buying anything. People go into the store to have a good experience. Not to be treated like they are some kind of enemy.

Specialized outdoors activity store where you can find camping, hiking, biking, rock climbing gears and clothing. The products are high quality, therefore expect higher prices. The staff is knowledgable and helpful. There is usually no check out line except on busy weekends and holidays.

The best store for camping, hiking and other outdoor sporting activities. Great sales, and 10% rebate on most items. Great selection.

I love all things outdoors, and rei is like a toy store for adults. I could spend hours in here. The only issue with this location is the parking. It would be great if it had its own structure, but youre stuck looking for street parking or surrounding garages.

Went to return items, good service. Always start shopping for outdoor gear at REI; helpful staff, usually find what I want. Check out membership and dividends.

Mike the manager....oh man. When I asked if he could order something for me he gave me the exhale of boredom and under his breath said sure. As I could tell he was visibly bothered I mentioned that this is why I shop online and places like Amazon are going to wreck brick and mortar stores........he smiled and said thats cool with me, I am a shareholder of Amazon.....If I were the owner, I am not sure I would be to pleased to hear that my managers were welcoming customers shopping at the competition.....IDK, maybe thats the new norm???

Good Products, Horrible service. Go into REI knowing what you want to buy because if you dont, youll have to wait about an hour to get assisted. There is about one man on the job and he truly seems like he doesnt want to be there and not someone you would want to talk to. I would recommend Big 5 or Dicks Sporting goods over REIs any day.

Selection is decent, but I feel like they dont have enough people on staff. Takes forever to wait for someone to help you with sizing.

I went online to find a dealer for a BOB stroller. I was surprised to see that they were sold at REI. I thought that no staff in an outdoor store would know anything about a stroller. I went in and was greeted and helped within about 15 seconds of walking into the store. Robbie was the sales rep who helped me. He explained all of the features of the stroller and did a demo of the operation of it. He taught me how to collapse it, gave tips, etc. Surprisingly good experience...
