What a fun experience! For about $50/each you get to make your own candle. They have 80 scents to pick from, help you match your top 3 into a scent you’ll love, and then you get to pour & mix your own candle! The candles take about 2 hours to set after you’re done, and the store is perfectly located by amazing restaurants. After we made our candle we grabbed lunch and some ice cream & then came back for our candles. Such a great experience, and the staff were so fun and helpful!
I had fun getting to explore the different candle scents before choosing a few I liked for my candle. The associate then will make a suggestion to help balance your scent and let you smell before committing. Then you get to mix the oils yourself and pour into the soy wax base. Stir for a couple minutes and then leave for a couple hours to cure. This would make a great date night or friend outing. As you have to wait a couple hours to pick up your candle, it gives you time to go for drinks or a bite to eat nearby while you wait!I highly recommend doing this and the associates were friendly and a great help through the process!
This place was really fun! I loved all the scents, and the jars for the candles are really pretty. I do think it could be more involved though! My sister and I chose our scents and had finished all within 15 minutes, and for a $43 candle I think it could be more hands on! Having individual double boilers for customers to actually melt their own wax, glue in the wick, and make the whole candle would be a lot more fun then just pouring in the oil and stirring- everything else was done for us. Still a fun experience, but not hands on enough in my opinion.
Such a cool experience! I saw this place on TikTok and knew my husband and I had to go immediately! We just recently went for his birthday and he fell in love with it and wants to come every season just so we can make our own scents! This place is super fun and is such a cool experience if you love all things candles. All staff are super helpful when mixing your smells to your liking and what they think would blend best. To some, it may be pricey and I can understand but the experience is so worth it! My husband and I went out paying over $85 after tip just for 2 candles but definitely thought the whole thing was worth it! Our candles smell so amazing and are perfect just in time for fall! --- Id also be sure to make reservations ahead of time ($20 holding fee) just so you have a reserved spot time to do your candles! It gets pretty busy fast I noticed but its so nice that they take that $20 holding fee off your total purchase price!
The in-person experience is full tilt 5 stars, loved the whole idea. Got home and lighted a candle that had a minor whif of my meticulously curated scent for $45…
This was a very fun experience and something unique to do but only 3 stars because the candles don’t really smell like anything. We spent $100 on 2 candles and now that we have them home it’s disappointing that they aren’t very aromatic.
I made two candles when I visited with my friend and a couple and it was fun! We got to smell different seasonal and year-round fragrances and then use 3 to create a signature scent! The candles are crazy expensive but smell really fragrant and burn nicely. A relaxing Sunday afternoon activity to do with a significant other or maybe a parent. They supposedly had soap, lotion and essential oils you could make as well but werent available when I visited.
This place is so fun! Love all their scents and the candles are all natural and paraffin free. Such a fun date night activity to create custom candle scents and have it made in front of you!
Outstanding service, even better candles. To give an anecdote of how they went above and beyond, I went in wanting a candle that reminded me of a cabin in the forest scent. When asked what I should name the candle, I drew a blank and said I would come back with a clever name when I picked up the candle a few hours later. I came back to see this adorable drawing on the bottom of the candle. Thank you so much @Susie - you made my entire week
I made a reservation for candle making and I can’t wait to go back again! It was such a fun experience and the staff was really friendly and helpful (also followed Covid-19 guidelines). This is the perfect thing to do on a Saturday and I need more excuses to go back immediately. Also, from a fragrance standpoint - wow, they are spot on! Baked Bread LITERALLY smells like a fresh loaf of bread just came out of the oven. That’s only one of 90 smells, so enjoy!
Elm Candle Bar is my new favorite go to place for gifts. I have given a few candles to friends so far and I love that I got to customize a scent for each one. It is also a great activity to do with a friend. I went twice with co-workers and we all loved the experience! I have been telling everyone I know how fun it is! Check it out.
Wow this place is amazing and one of a kind. I was visiting my sister from NYC and made a trip into the city to visit the store - she had raved about this place and gifted me a candle from here for Christmas. I was very pleasantly surprised at the extensive selection of scents - and unique ones too. Baked bread was my favorite! The process of making your own candle is super fun and interactive - we brought my 5 year old niece who also had a blast (she colored in our labels). The candles are extremely high quality and burn for hours longer than store bought ones. This is a fantastic place for a girls night out or work outing - would love to have a place like this in NYC!
So much fun! It’s a really great experience and the staff are so friendly
Came here for a date night and was honestly expecting more of a hands on experience. We entered and were told to choose our top 3 scent choices from the 80 different scents on the wall which was a fun little experience smelling a bunch of different candles. Then we headed to the shelf section to choose our candle holders made from glass ranging from $27-33 each to pour our candle mixture in. You can also choose from diffusers and sprays which are slightly cheaper. Then we went back toour station where they had hot wax already heated for us and we just measured out our top 3 scent oils and we added it to the hot wax and were done and yup thats it! For a $30 candle making expereince I was expecting a little more to the process like choosing different colors for the wax, or adding different textures like snowflakes to my candle and also would have been cool if they had different candle structures to choose from for the wax. There was a place in San Diego I went to where you could choose the shape of your candle and the colors and scents so you could have like a moon candle or a snowflake candle which was pretty cool. But yeah this place was pretty boring in terms of actually making a candle and doesnt really give much time for you and your date to bond either. Anyways cool concept if they expand on it further. Also another bad part is you cant take the candle home right away and have to wait for it to cool down for about 2hrs. There needs to be a faster process for people visiting from out of town or if you dont live in the area its really hard to come back to Capital Hill find parking and pickup your candle. My friend was visiting from Portland and wanted to take his candle home but they closed by 9pm and we got there at 7:30pm so he wont be able to pickup his candle for a few weeks until he is back in town, but ideally there needs to be a faster cooling process for people to take home their candles. Just an idea! Oh and they do hold your candle for 6 months but honestly who is really going to remember picking up a candle after a week even. Staff here is very welcoming, nice and knowledgeable so thats a plus! The location in Capital Hill is great and the place itself has a nice open feel to it but only street parking is available.
Wonderful experience
Great latte art!
Super fun experience making candles, diffusers, and room sprays where you have complete control over the mix of scents! The process is super addicting and great for team parties or dates.Cheapest DIY candle is currently $27; room spray is the overall cheapest custom product, currently at $18. Candles usually need to sit for one to two hours to cool down before they can be picked up.They take reservations (via phone or web). Cash is not accepted; card & contactless payments (e.g. Apple Pay) are accepted. Gift cards are available. Soy wax.Good dogs are welcome in the store!Diffusers can be brought back for refills, and hopefully other products will be able to be brought back in the future.
