Great little shop with friendly people who actually know things about the merchandise. I walked in with no intention of buying anything and told the staff I was just killing some time on my lunch hour. They encouraged me to grab any guitar I wanted off the wall and play if I felt so inclined, so I did and ended up finding a beautiful Taylor guitar that I just had to buy.

Found this store through a bandmate! Upon entering the store, we were given a friendly greeting from the store manager, Nick Rowland. He was extremely helpful and courteous. Im so impressed with the excellent customer service and the prices that this is now my new local music store.

I am traveling from AZ and I had a new 3/4 sized Washburn with me. I bought it in a hurry and the set up was not right. The young man (his name escapes this old mans memory:) who helped me understood what I needed and being a technician adjusted the neck. After a few minutes we decided to restring the guitar and add a strap. Huge over all improvement. Great service and a very conscientious employee.

The young man that helped me left me alone when I wanted to just browse. But, he responded quickly when I asked him a question demonstrating a thorough knowledge of the guitars. I felt very satisfied with the product, the price and the entire experience in their shop.

The staff at your Shawnee Mission Pkwy store are helpful and congenial to all customers as far as I could see. The fact that they themselves are experienced musicians is a big plus. Sales are done promptly and in a friendly manner. Two things could make it better. Your inventory needs to include larger amplifiers,4×12s etc. Second . Lose the mask mandate. Every one knows its commie B.S.and is sick of it.thanks

It’s a great store! Mainly a Fender and Taylor dealer but they access to anything for your live, studio or practice needs. I’ve become a regular over the past few months. Everything is priced fairly and the atmosphere is inviting. Matt and Ben have been great to work with. The two of them are excellent resources for knowledge and gear advice. They’ve helped me decide on quite a few items and I have no regrets! Buy your music gear from a local dealer! Keep these stores alive!

When I finally decided to upgrade from my guitar that I’ve had since the eighth grade (I’m 33 yrs old) I was so happy to find exactly what I was looking for in a locally owned shop. I received a great deal on a new American telecaster. Ernie Williamson Music remains consistent with kind customer service and music knowledge. I have had the same experience with their sister store Fazios in St. Louis. I know the stores are a mainstay for beginning musicians in both music equipment and staffed by considerate musicians and instructors. However don’t let this deter you if you are active musically and desire high end instruments or equipment. Be sure to walk in or check them out on Reverb. They offer great deals and service, so inquire. Communication is prompt and courteous. I highly recommend this music store.

Buying my son his first electric guitar and they did such a fantastic job taking the time to show him some basics and set him up with a great starting point and great combined price with his new Amp as well. Will buy from them again very soon for my own guitar upgrade.

Ordered a bass from EW Music through their post on reverb.com. The bass was brand new and almost 10% cheaper than other postings for the same make/model. Shipping was free and faster than expected arriving one day early! Packaging was good and more importantly the bass was in pristine condition as described. The tension had been let out of the strings for shipment which I believe is normal. Wasn’t sure if the truss rod had also been adjusted for shipment so I did a complete set up just to be safe. The bass looks amazing and more importantly feels and sounds amazing too.

Took my guitar in for a pickup swap and a set up. I ordered the wrong pickup online and Ben took the time to call me on his personal time and send me links to the correctly wired model that I was looking for. Saved me money by doing it. Once the pickup situation was figured out, he got my guitar back into my hands all setup and ready to go same day. If you’re look for a guitar tech, I’d recommend in a heart beat.

Have been coming here for lessons for about half a year. Friendly staff and great tutors. The place has a sanitation problem, however. The hallways, waiting areas and restroom are consistently dirty, and there has not been a working soap container in the restroom for our last 5 or so weekly visits, leading one to the conclusion that staff, tutors, and customers are likely using the restroom without properly washing their hands and then handling instruments, door handles and any other things you might come into contact with. Have complained several times about the restroom, but so far, no change.

After wanting to get back into music I had brought in a guitar to have them service it. I had quite a few issues with feedback regarding the guitar. Even though they were unable to fix the issue with the guitar, they were able to help me troubleshoot the actual problem causing the feedback (the power supply at my house). Ben and the rest of the staff were extremely helpful, even with me coming up there multiple times and probably bothering them too much lol. Great staff and service!

I dont have any complaints. I think the price for a Cool brand pick is high, but realistically, if you dont charge more than you pay, you cant make money. So Im all good with it!But it might not hurt to maybe sell 5 for the price of 4 every once in awhile. Only because your the only store in town that sells them. Those are great picks!:-)

Ive been shopping with these guys for a really long time. I lived in Montana came back to KC just to buy my guitars from them and all my equipment from them. These guys really know what theyre doing and some of the most helpful guys you can get!

Miss the old Funky its just not my style the way it is now. Went in a few years ago and my jaw dropped at how things had done a 180 makeover. Used to be full of super shred strats and good variety of amps. Has a total hipster vibe now and gear aimed toward the coffee shop crowd. Needless to say I was out within a few minutes.

I walked into Funky Munky thinking I might make a purchase. There was one other customer in the store and two employees. The one employee behind the counter was chatting with the customer, the other employee had his back to the door and was playing a bass. I knew they were employees because they were wearing nametags. Neither employee acknowledged my presence as I walked around the store. The other customer left and the first employee picked up a guitar and played it. Still no acknowledgement that I was even in the store.I probably spent 15 minutes looking around the store. The second employee never stopped playing the bass the whole time I was there.Id expect poor service from a big box store, but not a small independent store. Too bad, Ill never go back there again. I work hard for my money and will spend it somewhere that appreciates my business.

Really love this place and would highly recommend it to anyone. Im not knowledgeable about instruments, but they didnt make me feel stupid. They answered all my questions and got me and my son set up with drums and ukeleles! Going to take lessons from them as well. Have had a great experience with all of them.

I attended the Taylor Roadshow at Springfield Music on Monday, June 26th, 2017. A great event put on by Taylor and Springfield Music. As part of the show I was able to purchase a beautiful Taylor T5 at a great price. In addition Springfield Music added multiple items to the purchase like a Taylor strap, Snark tuner, Elixer strings, picks, a Taylor T-shirt, a Springfield Music T-shirt and a Springfield Music Hat. I was very happy with the show and purchase. I will be doing business with Springfield Music in the future!

There music selection was small at best. The customer service was terible asked if they had a carpo the old style and they laughed at me. Then said that the music I wanted was a odd choice I play banjo and wanted some 1920s blue grass and looked at me like I was insane. Because I live very close to this place, Ive stopped in quite a few times. Every time I go in, its with the mindset that maybe Ill give them one more chance....But then every single time, I end up leaving the store feeling disgruntled and disappointed. Yeah, the selection is sometimes fairly meh, but thats not a big deal to me. Sometimes its decent. I will say that the selection seems to have improved recently. The staff, on the other hand....I dont know if theyre poorly trained or just really rude (maybe both?).As much as I would prefer to support local businesses, I would frankly rather order online from a place like Musicians Friend or drive across town to Guitar Center (where at least the staff is affable and able to at least pretend that they care about my business) than give one of these assholes a sale.

On the outside the store looks a little bland, but on the inside its clean and nice looking, they have a good staff and a good selection if your a fender fanboy like myself they also have Ibanez and a few other companies too.

I was great when it was Music Als; good when it was the old Funky; but when the big corporate music store bought it there was a marked drop in service, selection, and overall quality. Anybody else miss Mountain Music?

Absolutely terrible selection and even worse service. I took in my USA made Jackson King V2 in for a professional set up. They told me the neck was warped and that my guitar was totally ruined. So I found a professional luthier who had been working on guitars for more then 40 years. When I dropped it off to the luthier, he told me that he hated pointy guitars with flashy paint jobs.. But when I picked it up from him a couple of days later, he said that there was not only absolutely NOTHING wrong with my Jackson, he also said it was one of the top 5 guitars that he has every played in his life.Funky Munky does not have a clue to what they are doing. I will drive to the other side of town before even buy strings from them anymore.

They put Guitar Center and Big Dudes to shame. Easily the best music outlet in a 50 mile radius. If they dont have something in-store theyll gladly order it for you. All the guys there have assisted me in my many purchases there. Because of their service, reliability and integrity, Ive spent well in to the crux of $4,000 there in the span of a few years. They know their stuff and theyre always happy to help, and they always give it to me straight for my benefit, not theirs.They also have great taste in the pedals they carry. They have your mass-produced standards (BOSS, EHX, MXR) but they also step their game up (Strymon, Earthquaker Devices, JHS).If youre thinking about going to Guitar Center for the prices, I promise you Funky Munky will make it worth your while. In fact, 90% of what they sell @ Funky Munky matches the prices of Guitar Center, and youll be treated a lot better while youre there.
