Jason did an outstanding job on my oboe! I have had my instrument serviced by some of the big names out there, and let me tell you, after Jasons work, my oboe plays better than it ever did--seriously! Jason is a very knowledgeable and humble man. He communicated with me throughout the service process and was always willing to listen to any of my concerns--he was very patient with me! His work is thorough and timely. Beth was also a wonderful person to speak with. This has been--without question--the best service experience Ive ever had. From this point on, he is my oboe repair person--no need to look elsewhere. I cannot recommend Onks Woodwinds Specialist enough!

Jason and his team are simply awesome! I had come for some tuning and mechanism problems on my oboe and was so impressed by his skill and intuition as to how to best fix the problems. He went above and beyond - the instrument plays more easily and beautifully then I have ever remembered. He has an incredible and sensitive eye for detail and feel! I have had my oboes worked on by almost all of the most famous and reputed oboe repairmen/women in the Unites States, and Jason is truly the easiest person to work with, and got me exactly the result I wished for - the perfect balance. He TRULY listens to your needs and requests with the utmost patience, and is such a humble and down-to-earth person, while also being totally confident in his ability to fix anything you ask of him. I think being able to communicate easily with someone and not have to work around how you express everything is super important to get the result you want on your instrument. He was so patient and let me feel comfortable being honest about how I felt about the instrument, and modified anything in an instant that I wasn’t totally happy with. I am so grateful to have found him, and I plan on bringing all of my oboes to him in the future! I recommend him to anyone and everyone for work on their oboes, English horns, etc. and other woodwind instruments!

Jasons work is excellent! He corrected some issues my oboe and English horn had and adjusted them to play smoothly, stable, and with beautiful tone. I have had my instruments worked on by several other repair services and Jasons work is by far my favorite now. His team was very helpful and immediately responsive. I was kept in the loop during the entire process. The quality of customer service was above and beyond. An overall perfect experience!!! Thank you.

I recently had one of my older oboes (Loree B series) worked on by Jason Onks -- great job! This oboe had a number of issues, which were all corrected at a fair price. The oboe now plays better than I can ever remember it playing. So much so, that I am now thinking of switching to it as my primary oboe. I would also add that Jason and his staff are a pleasure to work with -- responsive to questions and timely in their work. Thanks Jason for the great job! My Bulgheroni English horn played well before I sent it for overhaul, but I was beginning to notice little problems -- slight delays in how keys worked and some minor intonation issues. I asked Onks to do a complete overhaul, and following their overhaul my English horn SINGS!! The tone of the English horn and the intonation are better than ever!! Onks is not the least expensive place for an overhaul, but based on prior experience with other overhauls, it is the BEST. I will continue to use Onks for ALL my reed instruments. When my husband heard me play the English horn after the overhaul, he gave me an expansive comment: ITS JUST BEAUTIFUL! My comment: The beautiful sound and intonation just BLOWS MY MIND!!Beth is easy to work with, and will try to schedule your instrument overhaul around your schedule -- as long as it is not near a holiday or the start of the school year!!I was impressed with how they packed my English horn after working on it: They packed it with extra padding to ensure no keys would be stressed while in transit.Obviously, I highly recommend Onks.

I got a beat up Loree on Ebay. I knew it would need help but when I received it the condition was very poor. Never the less, I sent it off to Onks in the hope that they would be able to help. I got my oboe back today and to say that it is completely transformed is not doing justice to what Jason was able to accomplish. In addition to it being restored to a beautiful oboe, it makes a beautiful sound. Now, off to practice, I need to be worthy.

Onks Woodwind Specialists was great at fixing my oboe. I had a tight time constraint due to an institute coming up after my oboe had cracked, and they were very understanding and fixed my oboe in less than two weeks. They did a great job with my instrument, and I would definitely send it back. They even send emails to update you on the progress of your instrument and communicate very well!

I am blessed to have two wonderful M2 Marigaux Oboes and I rotate them, playing them every other week.I procrastinated to do the annual cleaning on my Silver one for about 4 years, convincing myself that it was ok to keep waiting...I sent it last week and Jason not only repaired all the little details that I told him, including widening the octave vents to my requested sizes, but he left my Silver one immaculate and so EASY and homogeneous to play that I was so tented to change oboes in the middle of the Nutcracker performance last night (which I did, literally!)Jason, you are the best, there are no words to Thank You!!!

I would recommend Onks Woodwind Specialists to anyone who needs work on their instrument. This is the second oboe that Jason has worked on for me and he always goes way above and beyond. There were notes in the lower register that stopped sounding, and the adjustment screws were loose and corks and pads needed work. Now, this tired oboe looks and sounds beautiful. Every note sounds so easily and clearly. Thank you so much Jason!

Jason & Onks Woodwind Specialists repaired my sons Fox oboe when it fell to the tile floor and broke in half at the tenon. Jason was able to replace the tenon without any noticeable repair and the repair didnt change the sound quality. Yay!!! Once the repair was complete, they checked over the oboe and adjusted a key that needed some attention. Onks Woodwind Specialists are very professional and made us feel comfortable throughout the whole process of shipping and repairs.

Jason is a virtuoso in his own right - his work servicing instruments is meticulous, sensitive, and nuanced. And the whole team at Onks is great - very pleasant to be in their company during long appointments. My two Laubin English horns have never felt better, and Nick serviced my orchestras bass oboe, it feels like butter! Thanks guys! Cally Banham, SLSO

I met Jason at the IDRS convention in Appleton in June 2017 and was impressed with his attention to detail - he even got my EHs thumb octave to stop sticking permanently (others had attempted through the years without long-term success). I just sent him my Howarth XL oboe (2016) and Loree EH (1999) for their yearly maintenance and they both came back feeling great - the response, evenness in the registers and focus in the sound is wonderful (now I just need some reeds. . . ). Jason and his group are easy to work with, run on schedule and do excellent work. Thanks!Mika Brunson, Associate Principal & English horn, Las Vegas Philharmonic, Lecturer, UW Marshfield

Top-notch clarinet repairs at fair prices: This instrument repair shop is housed in a Spartan industrial hut at a regional airport outside of Nashville. It seems like a modest operation, but the marvelous work that goes on within this shop harkens back to legendary repairman of yore, while embracing modern techniques and materials. Clarinet repairman Jonathan Copeland mixes 90% relentless attention to detail with 10% creative genius to bring the spark of life back to instruments that have been dulled by age or neglect. He uses his keen diagnostic skills for drilling down to the source of sloppy keys or weak notes on your clarinet. In proposing a solution to the repairs, Jonathan offers a range of choices starting with the most economical/minimal interventions, without pressuring you toward buying more services than you need. Whatever work you choose, the consistent attention to detail is the real difference that makes a difference. Shop owner Jason Onks, although he is an oboe specialist, also works on clarinets with the same attention to details. Some top-notch repairmen are prejudiced against non-Buffet clarinets, or they refuse to work on student instruments. Not at Onks Woodwind Specialists! When Jonathan repaired my vintage Selmer clarinets, he also fixed up my old Bundy Resonite, with the same attention to details, and now it plays great, much better than the average plastic clarinet.Ideally, you would visit the shop and go over your clarinet repairs in person, but if you live too far from Nashville, Jonathan and Jason are responsive to questions and requests by e-mail or telephone. They pack and ship instruments quickly and skillfully, doing all they can to diminish the anxiety of having your expensive instrument out of your hands.
