Looks like German Swedish went out of business. Its now a hookah shop. Very sad as they were a great and honest shop. Now I have to find somewhere else to take my Volvo :-(
Highly professional, communicative, and speedy auto shop. I only came in because my Audis check engine light came on and I needed it seen to quickly before a trip, but I was hugely impressed by the service level. I would absolutely return for further work and will be recommending them to others.
Great customer service, price and workmanship. Highly recommend and wouldn’t bring my BMW anyplace else. They out perform the Alexandria BMW Dealership by 200%. Ask for Austin, he is the consummate professional.
It’s rare to find a company that has great customer service as well as great service, these guys and gals has it all! From walking in the door and being greeted makes you feel like you’re a part of a family. Very friendly staff! I purchased a Mersades from a not so good auto place and these guys help me repair it and I’m on the road now! I’m really happy I came here. This will be my go to auto shop for any repairs. Best of all as a veteran I love that’s this company is veteran owned!!
This is the best German auto shop, hands down. The staff is friendly and the service was great. They are patient and willing to answer questions related to service provided. I will be a customer of theirs as long as I am in the area.
Extremely satisfied with my customer experience at German Swedish Auto. Took my 2011 BMW 335xi in to them for some suspension work- they were extremely accommodating, knowledgeable, and friendly folks to do business with. All of the work was done properly- any concerns I had were promptly alleviated by their excellent tech and customer service advisor. I plan on using German Swedish Auto for all of my future maintenance needs moving forward, and can not recommend them enough!
Several months ago, the auto shop that our family has been using for all our cars - Ford, Chevrolet, Camry, & Dodge - for decades, was sold to new owners. But I am happy to report that the trusted & knowledgeable mechanics, general manager & service writer are now working together at German Swedish Auto. It may now look like much from the front, but inside is a large, unbelievably clean garage - no torn down greasy parts laying around, old tires, etc.- & its air conditioned in there too!! But the best recommendation of all is that the mechanics will take you back to your car, show you what the actual problem is, & what they need to do to repair it!! I really like that part!!
I have a 2014 Audi A4. Ive been to Audi of Tysons and the famed Eurowerks. Both tried to bleed me for repairs i didnt need or want done at the time.German Swedish Auto will be my only shop for 2 reasons. 1. They figured out the problem the first time. 2. They were 150% honest.Audi was overcharging me $4k for a timing chain replacement and $2k for a water pump replacement.I then went to Eurowerks to get the job done cheaper. Instead i was led on a drawn out 2 weeks of everything wrong with my car, i appreciated it as they gave me a loaner for free 2 weeks also. Eurowerks was willing to fix EVERY SINGLE issue with my car for the same $6k. I told them thats fine, but i cant drop the $6k all at once(like who tf has that much sitting around for car repairs?). I was willing to pay them in 2k installments per week, but they wouldnt accept anything less, and then told me i could keep the loaner but they would be charging me $45 a day for it going forward. I was apalled at their greed, and i took my car and gave back their loaner the same day. This isnt what i wanted, so i took my car to German Swedish, emotionally drained. I was voiced my concerns and they worked with me. They stated that there was nothing wrong with the timing chain, and they figured out the water pump issue the first time. They explained me with diagrams on how the pump and chains work and put my mind at ease. They charged me only $1600 total for the pump which i was fine with, and they let me pay it in 2 installments with no questions asked. They didnt blow my phone up to where their payment was, and their honesty, kindess, and accomodation was second to none.My Audi was an absolute hell for 2 weeks, and now this is the only place i will take my Audi for any repairs. Thank you for everything
Made an appointment for an oil change for my Volvo XC60 via the website. Did not receive confirmation but they had me on the schedule when I came in. Service was prompt and efficient at a reasonable cost. I will continue to take my vehicle here for routine and other maintenance.
Great service and work. I brought my 2013 Volvo S60 in they rebuilt the engine and came under budget. Austin was fantastic!
I was worried about how much it was going to cost to figure out what was wrong with the electrical controlling my air conditioner (especially with the notoriously bad Volvo wiring). Austin was definitely fair and the AC/heat is working again. Glad to know there is a Volvo guy I can trust.
Quick response to a requested quote, work done promptly, and answered questions I had. Solid independent shop, will be returning for work on my VW and Volvo.
Bob is great, the work is always solid and in 10years of using GSA they have always been upfront and honest. I was overseas for month one time and when I got home the Audi S4 was making an odd knocking sound. Took it in they look it over and said you just need to put new gas in, it sat too long... other places would have tried to sell me a bunch of unneeded parts and services, Bob accurately IDs the issue and solves it, making recommendations as needed/wanted. Great place.
This business is under new ownership/management but the great service has not changed...Staff personable, job completed as promised the same day, total price total beat the dealership quoted price......And I travel from Baltimore to Springfield for good service....I will come back again and again
Bob and the experienced team at German Swedish have taken great care of my Saab for a decade. From preventive maintenance to more complex diagnostics and replacements, comprehensive service at a fair price. I have total confidence when I take road trips home on busy interstate highways and less traveled country roads. My 2001 9-3 has 223k miles and is running like it did when I got it in 2008 with 75k miles. Highly recommend German Swedish.
What a wonderful place. Best place to have your Audi worked on in the area.
I have the esteemed pleasure to share this news.... THIS IS A QUALITY SHOP! I felt as if my car was cared for more here then at a Volvo Dealership. I can see AND feel the effort they put in. After 5 years of trying to find a DECENT shop... I found a QUALITY Shop. I would advise this be the first call you make and make no others. This is the place.
I had a water pump fail as I was traveling for business & German Swedish Auto Services accommodated my schedule very professionally. Great service. After the repair, I felt confident to drive 9 hours to my final destination. I would highly recommend them, as I am a trained mechanic in the aviation industry.
I feel lucky to have heard of German Swedish Auto. They were honest and straightforward and didnt try to sell me anything. They told me just what I needed, gave me a loaner and had my car done the next day and for much cheaper than the dealership. I definitely recommend this shop
The folks at. German Swedish Auto did a great job performing an oil change and some other minor things our car needed. Theyre always quick, reliable and affordable!
Amazing customer and car service. I would highly recommend bringing your car here. I had interactions with 4 employees and every one of those encounters was a positive one. They treated me fairly and took the time to really understand the problem AND took the time to explain everything to me. Service was quick and efficient and I felt 100% comfortable and happy walking out of there.
It was my first time at German Swedish Auto Service. My 2001 Saab 9-3 needed some major work. Both Bob the owner and his son Josh were very helpful in explaining to me what I needed done now and what I didn’t need done at this point. It was very helpful to hear their explanations; great work and I’m a very happy customer.I will be back with my Saab again as needed and with my Honda’s, too.
When the intake side variable valve timing failed on my 2004 Volvo XC70, I got it towed into German Swedish and Im glad I did. Due to the sudden loud engine knocking and extreme loss of power I was prepared for the worst, but Bob (who has been in the business for over 30 years) and his team definitely made me feel like the car was in good hands. I was quoted $3k for the repair and they came in right on budget (plus a little extra since I asked them to replace the PVC system while everything was taken apart.) For the two weeks that the car was in the shop, they gave me a loaner as well, which was incredibly helpful. Overall I was very satisfied with the service I received. Ill definitely come here again for any major repairs and I highly recommend them.
Best garage I have ever used. I take both of my cars to German Swedish Auto. The service is great. All repairs are done right, the first time and the price is fair for the level of service you get. I have never returned to the garage because a repair was not performed correctly. Bob has even worked on the weekend to ensure my vehicle was finished on time. This is great local business with a friendly atmosphere.
My experience at German Swedish as usual was great. The part they needed for my car was already there and if it isnt it can be delivered within the hour which is awesome. Bob is great and funny but above all, just like his mechanics, hes honest and straightforward with what you need and dont need done to your car. I would and will continue to recommend German Swedish Auto to anyone in my family and friends.
I have been going here for several years now. I get both of my vehicles services done here. I value and trust their work and honesty.
Austin and the team do an amazing job, honest, professional, and effective. Ive been coming here for over a decade and even with the new ownership I am continually impressed and happy they have kept Bobs tradition of excellence.
Have been having German Swedish Auto work on my 2004 Volvo S80 for nearly 4 years now. Bob, his son Josh and company have always provided me with excellent service at fair prices. Given that my can is now just under 250k miles, and certainly showing wear from when I drove it off the showroom floor, Bob lets me know what “really” needs to be when I bring it in for routine services. By that he tell me everything I could do and then what he recommends to ensure safety and reliability. I appreciate that!!
I’ve been dealing with a range of foreign auto mechanics for the past 7 years and German Swedish is by far the best group that I’ve run into. The shop doesn’t look like a spa. These are just “old school”, hard-working technicians who actually have an interest in accurately diagnosing and then thoughrougly fixing problems. When I brought them my BMW E90, I had an electrical problem and a potential transmission issue. The team expertly diagnosed both problems. I have absolutely no doubt that many other shops would have a used the occasion to charge $1k+ for unnecessary repairs. Not these guys. The team at German Swedish was honest and proved incredibly capable. That’s grounds for earning my repeat business in the future. 5 star service all around.
They did a great job. I will definitely use German Swedish Auto when my car needs to be serviced.
Right now we are driving a Jeep and a Honda, but have taken all of our cars to GSA for years. All the way around, our experience at German Swedish Auto is topnotch. They are thorough, competent, and honest, many times going the extra mile to make sure our cars are running well. We have never felt like they were making up costly repairs. The staff of GSA are trustworthy and experienced. We are lifers!Paul & Kelley WesleyCentreville, VA
German Swedish always does a great job on our SC60. I trust their assessments, even when they are more expensive than I estimated. I have 115K on it and they are one of the reasons why it runs so well. They even assisted me with some minor body work which enabled me to avoid going to multiple shops. Plus, it was finished to their standards. The inconvenience of having to Uber home or get a friend to take you is worth it. Bob, the owner, has even taken me home from time to time. I recommend German Swedish highly!
Bottom line up front: Outstanding service at below dealer repair rates. Totally honest and highly competent mechanics. Very personalized in their customer interaction and service. I always have 100% confidence that all work will be done correctly and charges will be fair and reasonable.Comments: I have been taking my Volvos to Bob and his crew for the last 10 years, they always do a great job on any repair or maintenance action. Bob and his mechanics are experts at diagnosing problems, and only recommend necessary repairs. On several occasions Bob has actually talked me out of doing work I initially requested because he felt it wasnt really necessary or cost effective. You and your wallet wont go wrong trusting your vehicle to be properly serviced and repaired at German Swedish Auto.
It was a pleasant experience connecting with no nonsense and well mannered Josh Drye. Shop personnel are friendly and respectful. The repair cost quote was very close to the actual cost.
Josh and Bob (and team) always do a great job helping me keep my old car running - 98 Audi A6. They are straight shooters and good counselors when advising me on the cost versus the return. Yes, sometimes they recommend I dont invest in the continued upkeep of something. That allows me to make an informed decision or budget for the expenditure on the next visit.
So glad my friend recommended this place. Better quality job and service at a fraction of the price of the dealership. I was able to wait and work remotely (wifi) while they worked on my Volvo.
Greatest service. Quickly diagnosed and fixed. Walked in and out first time in less than 2 hours. Fixed! Family owned with honest talented mechanics.
I have been going to Bob at German Swedish for 10 years. They kept my Volvo, Saab, and Benz vehicles in great working condition and for a lot less than the dealers. In addition to factory maintenance, they have checked out any used vehicle I have purchased to make sure I wasnt buying a lemon. I trust Bob to maintain the safety of the vehicles that transport my family. Thats putting your life in someones hands. I trust Bob without reservation.
I have taken my last two cars (BMW X5, Audi Q5) here for a variety of services and have always been happy with the results. The frills are low but the service is honest and complete. Recommended!
I’ve been a loyal customer of this shop for ten years and have nothing negative to say. While “you get what you pay for” rings true, Bob’s prices are transparent and his service holds the highest standard of service one can find in northern Virginia.
I took my Volvo to be serviced and the quality of the workmanship and thoroughness of the checks my vehicle underwent blew me away. My brand new brakes make not one iota of noise. My estimated charges and actual bill were only $15 different and I saved a considerable amount of money by NOT going to a Volvo dealership. Every charge was thoroughly explained and the owner, Bob Drye, did not mind answering my questions and answered me respectfully and patiently. My only complaints are about the quality of loaner cars, no vending machines for food or beverages so you could sit there a long time while parched and starving, no water cooler or fountain, and the bathrooms are in desperate need of a good cleaning.
Professional small business that does excellent honest Volvo work.
German Swedish Auto Services quickly assessed my Volvo XC90 for new breaks and was able to replace them the following morning. Great customer service. Fair pricing. Plan to bring both my Volvos here in the future for all servicing.
I move around a lot (military) and one of the worries that comes with every relocation is finding a good place (quality of work, cost, and staff) to get my vehicles serviced. Im excited to have found my new shop here!Audi dealer quoted me an appt in 2 weeks, $465, and 3 hours to diagnose rough idle. I found this shop on Google, called, and was told to bring it in asap. Less than 30mins later they had found a broken boost control valve. Bob knows his stuff, and the feeling here is quaint and personal, in contrast to the impersonal institutional feel of big service departments. Pricing was fair, and I will definitely be returning for regular service.
Always a great experience, highly recommend German Swedish Auto. Good work at reasonable prices.
They performed some service on my Porsche Boxster and did an excellent job. I highly recommend German Swedish auto service.
Used to be a go to place but the customer service isn’t what it used to be. What started as a one day project quickly turned into them keeping my car for full two days. Updates were hard to get until the owner became engaged. Not the go to it used to be.
Bob and his team replaced my shocks and got me back on the road in short order. Thats what brings me back after 20 years - great dependable service.
Bob renewed the life of my XC70. Besides fixing the idling issue that others could not figure out Bob repaired the damage in which the insurance company declared the vehicle totaled. Bob explained everything in detail and I couldnt be more impressed with the service and price. Thank you again
Bob the owner is very knowledgeable. He is very helpful and has gone the extra step to help with getting the company with my extended warranty to comply with some of the work on my vehicle that should be covered.
First time going to this shop. I was a little weary about going to a unknow shop. I felt comfortable seeing a bunch of Volvo wagons like mine out front. I must say I was very impressed with the service. I picked up my vehicle exactly when it was predicted to be completed. You guys are awesome, you definitely earned a new customer.
I have had my Volvo V70 serviced with these guys for a couple years. Very professional, competent, and transparent.
Quality repairs and service, and knows my Volvo C70 inside and out!
I have been getting my 2001 Volvo V70XC serviced at German Swedish for over ten years. The work has been consistently well-done; the diagnoses on-the-money, and service friendly and helpful -- explaining exactly what was wrong and what needed to be done.My latest service was relative minor -- to get a door lock actuator replaced and re-secure a rear-seat power socket. The work was done quickly and efficiently with my car returned to me in tip top condition. This is typical of the service I receive every time I bring my car in.My previous issue was huge -- a failed engine oil seal. They had to replace the (oil-soaked and ruined) timing belt as well as the new seals. It was an emergency that happened early Saturday morning, but they answered my panicked call with get it towed here -- well take care of it.Not only did they do an excellent job, but they had it done in a very short time.I would not consider getting my seasoned citizen car cared for anywhere else.Thank you, German Swedish!
Great garage, they really know how to fix German cars. Quote for repair was spot on and on time.
Bob and his crew are terrific. They are thorough, honest and delightful to deal with!
Excellent Service & timley. I prefer to come here vs the dealer.
I have been satisfied with this shop for the last 3 years. Always quick and quality service, shop is organized, and the owner is knowledgeable very down to earth.
Did a great job fixing my tire, no bs no up sale just fixed it did a professional job and I will be back.
I have been taking my BMW Z3 to German Swedish for many years and always got great results. They fixed difficult problems that other shops cannot repair at an honest price. This is my go-to service shop for BMW repairs.Nov 2020 - My 2001 BMW Z3 fuel guage had been giving false readings for several months and finially I said enough....I cant live with this any longer. So I took it to German/Sweedish auto Services and they sourced the parts for my 20 yeard on car. Finding electrical parts for this car is difficult. They installed a replament cluster and made a few adjustments. I cannot express how happy I am with the work Austin, Jennifer, and Sal did for me. As mentioned in the previous paragraph, they are my go to shop for BMW repairs. Ralph
Trust them completely...They always do a first-class job!
They fixed my rotors and break system at a reasonable price
Great service, with fair pricing. As always, thank you Bob.
We found out about this play a year ago and have taking both of our SUVs to Bob ever since! Great service with a quick return!
Very happy with the service and price I got from German/Swedish Auto.My Volvo runs better than it has in years.
Ok, so let me start by saying I read the reviews about this place and wanted to give it a try. I brought my wifes Volvo S40 in after she called me from down the road saying the transmission light came on and the vehicle has been struggling to shift gears. Normally I would check everything myself but I have been rather busy, so I decided to let someone else help me out which I absolutely hate doing. This experience has secured the fact that I will continue to do things by myself because other people are out to screw you. This business decided to call and tell me that a transmission coolant line needs replacement and it cost $550.00 and on top of that they will have to check if that fixes the problem after hand. The complete rebuild for the line with all hose clamps and hardware is $17.00 from carquest. I understand a business needs to make money and I would have been happy paying $200.00 for this to be done plus parts but the people that run this place are not working for your best interest. If you want reliable, decent, hard-working people go to the Midas down the street. They have always been straight up with me at that buisness. I am also going to add that I paid $99.00 for them to advise me of the issue. Also these 5 star reviews on here are shenanigans and misleading.Update: I did get the hose rebuild for $109.00 from Tasco Ford in Rhode Island with overnight shipping. The price for labor was unreasonable as I replaced the hose myself in the freezing cold in about an hour, wheels up to wheels down. The hose had no major issues but appeared to just need O-ring replacement. I will say that this Volvo did require the OEM transmission fluid. I will admit that I was upset with the mechanic not informing me of all the details until I found out myself and for this I apologize for my initial review. I have since sold that miserable vehicle and will state that I spent about $200.00 for the the hose and fluid.
They have the parts that even the dealerships dont stock
The best for Audi
I had an unexpected muffler issue and German Swedish Auto Services was able to diagnose the problem, get the parts and fix my Saab the same day.
Ive taking my 1996 Volvo 850 GLT to Bob for 10 years. Enough said!!
Great shop. Honest. Fair.
Very rude by phone. Helped me make an instant decision to take my business elsewhere.
Bob the owner is very knowledgeable
Called for an estimate and they refused to give me any idea of time or cost to repair a minor problem. Will be looking for another shop in the area.
Bob changed the timing belt on my Jetta, and it was done for less than he quoted and earlier than promised. He even picked me up at the Metro stop. :-)
Why do they work well?
