We called Handy, as our dryer was making a very loud noise and our microwave wasn’t working. Both were fixed in less than an hour, we were shown what was wrong, and the repairman was very nice. Great professionalism, tremendous knowledge and skill, and wonderful responsiveness. Any future appliance repair or purchases will be going to Handy. Great job!
Called Handy to come in and look at a Bar refrigerator that wasnt cooling. They were VERY up front that while it may be only be a replacement part that is needed, that it may also have just worn out, as they dont last long without other issues coming up. Well worth the service call price for their time to figure out the issue which was a replacement part. Now its working great! Thanks!

We purchased a washing machine from Handy Appliance about 3 years ago and were very pleased with the service and product we received at that time, so when we were experiencing problems with our upright freezer, they were one place we contacted. They had 2 freezers, but they were on hold for other customers, and they offered to order a new one of us. We explained that we were hoping to get one that day so we would not lose our food and they offered for us to use a used one until they got in the ordered one. That was impressive to say the least. However, it got even better. The gentleman we spoke with, sorry I dont remember his name, dug deeper with us and discussed the problem. He went through several scenarios with us about what our problem might be and assured us that we could likely fix a few of the problems ourselves. We went home with his expertise from our conversation and found out that it was not our freezer that was the problem at all. However, without his willingness to troubleshoot with us, we would have ordered a freezer we did not need. That is service we have never experienced at another store. We had contacted 3 other stores that day and not one offered to troubleshoot the problem with us or offered the solution of using one of their freezers. We will definitely be purchasing our next appliances through Handy Appliance because their service is outstanding.
My LG refrigerator stopped freezing. Since we did not personally buy the refrigerator (came with the house) I researched on the LG website and this company came up. The guy was literally here for 5 minutes. He opened the freezer and stated it was not cooling (which I already knew since that is what I called about), said he would look into it and left. That is literally all that he did!!! Now I get a bill for $100 in the mail for him telling me that it is not freezing. I wouldnt recommend.

Handy Appliance is an honest and excellent appliance and service store. I cannot recommend Curtis and Handy Appliance more highly!! They helped me through a difficult time and saved me thousands of dollars with knowledge and insight no other dealer or factory service repair could offer! I had a 5 year old refrigerator that quit working. The factory service rep came out and told me it was too costly to repair. He said I would have to buy a new refrigerator. The appliance store I purchased it from also just wanted to sell me a new one!I’m just glad I stopped at Handy Appliance to get another opinion. Curtis asked me for the model and serial numbers of the fridge and was able to see that there had been problems with that appliance and that the factory was providing parts at no cost to the buyer. Within a few days the parts were ordered and installed and the refrigerator works again!! All for the cost of one service visit even though he came back two times to be sure everything was working properly. This is the kind of business everyone should support and I thank them from the bottom of my heart!!
Handy Appliance is a delightful store filled with every large appliance you could possibly need. They even carry Speed Queen. We recently purchased a refrigerator and dishwasher and absolutely LOVE them! Handy is one of the only places that actually services what they sell. I HIGHLY recommend them! Thank you, Ron!

Fantastic service!! I would highly recommend!! I was in desperate need of a washing machine after ours died suddenly. I previously purchased all of my appliances used in Madison, but decided to take a look at what Handy Appliance offered because we live in Sun Prairie. I am beyond pleased with the service I was provided and the washing machine I purchased. I explained to them that our family was on a tight budget and they offered me a great deal on the exact type of washer I was looking for (one I could not have gotten elsewhere)! The delivery was within 24hrs, the gentlemen was very friendly, made sure everything was set up and working properly and he hauled away my old machine for free. We have had 3 repair guys in to fix our 7 year old fridge; first guy says its too complicated of a fridge and doesnt feel comfortable working on it, second guy was sent by whirlpool warranty service tries to tell us it is NOT a part that is covered under any warranty but could upgrade it for an extra $600+ and no guarantee it will work because whirlpool doesn make good refridgerators.Then there is Handy, a shining example of human decency! They could have charged me for MUCH more but were honest with me and informed us the part needing to be replaced was a known issue and was covered under a special warranty. In the end, they ordered the part and I paid about $100 for the repair, all together.Unllike the other hustlers whom had come before, Craigs demeanor was like an honest uncle who cares about you and wants to truly help you with your problem. Go figure, leave it to A LOCAL, FAMILY RUN BUSINESS and you get great quality, friendly and honest service. We are fortunate enough to have them in our area! Put their number in your in your phone and feel confident youve got the best guys for the job!

I purchased our washer and dryer from Handy Appliance back in 2011. The sales staff was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. They went above and beyond to make sure that we got what we needed and for a reasonable price. Fast forward to 2016 and I called them to service a freezer that we had purchased elsewhere. I had called the manufacturer and was offered no help even though it was under warranty. In a last ditch effort, I called Handy Appliance. They were my Hail Mary or I would lose everything in my upright freezer. It was filled hundreds of dollars in product and thousands of ounces of milk for my infant that could not be replaced. I was told that they would not be able to come until the following week. It was heartbreaking. The woman on the phone asked if she could call me back. She did and after speaking with the owner and the service technician, they squeezed me in. Curtis came and was so kind and compassionate. The freezer is back in business and I didnt have to toss anything. Im so grateful for their understanding, compassion, and exceptional customer service. I wouldnt hesitate to recommend them and we will not be purchasing an appliance from another retailer again.
Over the last 4 or 5 years, my wife and I have bought a washer, dryer, refrigerator, and a dishwasher from Handy Appliance. Each time we have found them knowledgeable about the products they handle a pleasure to deal with. The delivery crew is punctual and very careful when inside the home.
We have used Handy Appliance for repairs over the last 20 years. Always great service. Recently my daughter was moving away and was going to take our old microwave but it was missing the roller ring under the glass plate. After unsuccessfully trying to get one online and from the manufacturer, I called Handy Appliance. The owner said, Sure, I have a stack of those in the shop. He found one that fit our microwave. Great old fashioned small town service.
A word of warning: do NOT use Handy Appliance. I know some people have had good experiences, but ours has been horrific.We have a double oven. Shortly before New Year’s, one of our ovens started blowing the fuse every time we turned it on. We called Handy. The repair person spent 5 minutes in our home, told us we definitely needed a part, and charged us $75. He came back out about a week later, fiddled with it for an hour, told me it didn’t need the part after all, and charged me another $75.Four days later, both ovens completely stopped working. I called, and they didn’t return my call for two days. The owner of Handy came out, examined the ovens briefly, and told me that it would cost me another $400 to repair. When I expressed dissatisfaction, he was extremely rude, and accused me of “refusing to disclose” information (in reality, I made the second call from work, and didn’t have the information with me at the office) He also refused to fully refund my money for the two prior failed trips.Obviously, we won’t be using them again.
Very rare that I provide 5 stars as I feel there is always room for improvement, but have no issues with their service. Very pleasant people and did what they said they would. Pricing was reasonable (bit higher than I would like), but also less expensive than people I have used in the past that have tried to run me thru the coals. Would recommend 100%

Our dishwasher had started on fire. I went to Handy Appliance to replace it. The very helpful man there asked me what kind it was. Then he informed me that it had been part of a recall. He gave me the number to call and we are working on getting it replaced. So very grateful for the heads up! Especially since the holidays are so close. The expense would have been devastating. I have used Handy Appliances for many years. I can rely on there service and price. I have made a number of purchases over the phone and always received great value. Deliveries and service have always been on time. I do not shop the big box stores as a result.
I called Handy thinking that they were an appliance repair company only, and yes, I had to pay the $65 service fee to be told that my dishwasher had died (after 10 years) from a cracked tub, but they said that if I bought a new one through Handy, the installation fee would be reduced from $150 to $100. I found a Bosch I liked. Handy ordered it at a price similar to several online quotes from local stores, installed it, then returned to make a minor adjustment at no charge, for a total cost exactly as promised. The installation cost was about $60 less than other stores quoted, so the service call was free. The person they sent to install the dishwasher was knowledgeable, polite and neat. We are delighted.
I like to use local places right here in SP but I will not use Handy Appliance ever again. Terrible customer service and their billing system is laughable. I don’t recommend.
Very happy to have done business here. Handy Appliance was recommended to us. The staff was helpful in finding what we were looking for instead of what they wanted to sell us. We decided on a REFURBISHED washer and dryer set. Although delivery and set up was offered, we transported the units ourselves. After hooking everything up, the washer had an issue. Ron came out the same day I called! He quickly fixed the issue. Turns out we had knocked a wire loose moving it into our laundry room. We were not chared for the house call or repair. Great local business with a great staff! Definitely will do business there again.
We received exceptional service from Handy. A replacement part was needed for our dishwasher. They ordered the part and had it installed in just a few days. The serviceman was extremely courteous, and we are beyond pleased to recommend them.
Discovered this business when a new range bought elsewhere had to be totally replaced by the manufacturer last December. The delivery and installation were well done. I have since replaced a washer and microwave purchasing them from Handy because of their installation and delivery crew. I did pay a few dollars more but worth it to support local businesses.

In June I called Handy Appliance because our washing machine stopped running after a certain point in the cycle. They were able to get a technician over fairly quickly to diagnose the problem. The technician told me he thought it was an electronic filter and explained how that worked and what typically caused it to fail. He also said the cost wouldnt be very expensive and that it would be about 2-3 days to get the part since it was a Friday. After a week of not hearing anything, I contacted them and they said they werent sure why it wasnt there yet and that it should arrive in a few days.After a few days we called again and said they could be out on Friday morning. We were out of town and made arrangements for someone to be there to meet the tech. However, the tech never showed up for the appointment and we didnt hear anything from Handy.After contacting them again we were told that the part wasnt on the truck. They didnt think to call and let us know so we could communicate this to the people that were waiting at our house.Another service time was scheduled and the technician arrived and spent a few minutes in the basement and returned upstairs and said right part number, wrong part and that theyd overnight the correct part.A few days later and the part arrived and was installed quickly and the washing machine was working again. This process took roughly three weeks.By August we realized that we never received an invoice and emailed Handy let them know. They never replied, instead an invoice arrived a few days later and was dated late June. The invoice didnt explain anything about the parts that were replaced except a part number and an amount that was a lot higher than I was lead to believe it would be.I spoke to Ron at Handy to get an explanation of the invoice and was told at that time that the issue wasnt the filter, but the main control board, which was a much greater cost. I dont mind paying for the part that fixes the machine, but I expect to be informed about these changes so I can make an informed decision about making the repair or purchasing a new machine.Overall, they got the work done and the washing machine is still working, but they were disorganized and not communicative about the work they were doing. Ive only worked with Handy this one time, so Im aware this could have been an isolated experience. I hope others dont have the same issues and that Handy can learn from this to improve their customer relationships.My advice:- Communicate with your clients. Nobody can look inside a machine and know for certain what is wrong with it - we understand this is your best guess and years of experience at work. If you are wrong, thats fine - just let us know about it - especially when there is going to be a significant cost increase.- Have an option to send invoices by email, it saves a stamp and the time it takes you to print and stuff an envelope.- Update the description of service. Yes, this might take a few extra minutes but we would all appreciate the details about what work has been done.

Appliances have been working much better, so were grateful for that, but follow-through was terrible from the company. Had to call constantly because nobody was getting back to us with the status of things or when they could come get our appliances fixed. We were told one reason for no follow-up one time, but then a different reason the next time. I know some of the delay was because it was a warranty fix, but took about two months+ to get our freezer fixed.
I had a consistently poor interaction at Handy Appliance Center initially but they have since worked hard to remedy the situation. I do recommend this company, they have extremely good, hometown workers that deserve your business.Avoid the owner at all costs.
Not pleased.Had a tech out to assess the dryer. He thought the entire gas valve assembly would need to be replaced; told us it would be 2-3 days to get the part. A week later we called and were told Oh, we thought someone had called you. It will cost $450. We declined their offer.I googled the symptoms, and found out I can fix it myself for under $10 in parts, and it will take me maybe an hour total.

I had these guys stop out to repair a gas dryer that wasnt drying the clothes properly. The technician was not on time, I understand these guys are busy but a courtesy call would have been appreciated. My biggest complaint is the whole diagnosis, they charged me 63.30 to come out to tell me the dryer needed a new igniter, they didnt have the part in the truck. Laundry is piled up and honestly I needed a running dryer. Then the technician tells me if I come in to the store and bought a new dryer from them theyd haul away the old one and credit me part of the service call, sounds great right? I went into the store and see an area filled with dozens of peoples old appliances that they are selling. Take from that what you want but I ended up calling another company and had the dryer fixed in less than 30 minutes for just under 100$
Im surprised to see the negative reviews above. I have had 15 years of good experience with Handy.I have bought a washer, dryer, stoves (for two units), a dishwasher, a freezer, and a refrigerator from Handy. I had a problem with a refrigerator repair recently due to a miscommunication; but someone came back and took care of the problem immediately and without extra charge.
Came in to look at my dryer that wasnt drying. In 5 minutes told me the vent was plugged. Then proceeded to charge me $90, but did NOT fix the vent!!! They said they fix dryers, not the vents! Called the owner, who openly mocked be on the phone, saying it was worth it for me to have them diagnose it for me. Horrible customer service.
Great experience will use again for repairs
Had them come out to look at our stove that wasnt heating so while he was here we had him look at our washer and dryer quickly. They charged us $62 to just simply look at the stove and he didnt have the tools to get it apart even and $31 a piece to look at the other 2. Plus they are charging a per hour fee on top of all of the other fees. Way too expensive for mediocre service.
Terrible service. They dont return calls, and when we finally got a guy out to look at our fridge, he was rude and condescending. He claims to have replaced a circuit board, but he was only here for a few minutes and our problem was not fixed.
FIVE service calls, washer down from 12/20/13 to 1/15/14, and assurances from Service Techs that we wouldnt be charged for parts if they didnt fix the problem. WRONG Last service call on 1/15/14 was a more knowledgable tech. who found a short in the wiring and the machine has worked since. We were charged for some very expensive and un-needed parts and $398.79!!!!! Obvious to us the short in the wire was the problem the whole time. Owner, Ron Richers said that the machine had been loaded wrong (worked just fine for 4yrs.+) and the expensive shocks would have gone out anyway in a year or so. Feeling lied to and cheated! LEARN from our experience and go somewhere else!3/5/14 Agreement reached and refund of second payment recd today due to help of Service Tech Curtis. Thank you Curt!
BEWARE! We called Handy Appliance Center in March 2015 for service to our Samsung Refrigerator ice maker, that was the beginning of a five month nightmare!!! Initially we thought the repair price quoted very high but had them send a repair man anyway. What we were not told in the beginning was that there were additional charges for each additional 15 minutes spent in your home. OUTRAGEOUS! What can be done in 15 minutes??? Finally at the end of July we had ice! This after four visits to our home and an installation of a new control board each time and the final time required installation of a new ice maker as well as control panel board. Each time HAC blamed Samsung for sending wrong parts, defective parts etc., however they continued to send a monthly invoice requiring me to call and question why we were being invoiced when we still did not have a working ice maker. At the end of July once the ice maker worked I paid an invoice that was not itemized went on vacation only to return home to another invoice almost twice the amount of the one I paid. Along the way each time I questioned invoices the billing department nicely claimed an innocent mistake. The final time I wanted explanation and again give vague explanations. I still do not know what all I have paid for and it was certainly much more than initially told to us over the telephone not to mention 5 months of aggravation and no ice! The service men themselves were caring and kind, one in particular named Curtis. So my real complaint here is with their vague & sloppy billing practices that can frustrate or confuse someone into paying whatever this company wants to charge. We feel duped & cheated. Never again!!!
