This place is a Florida vacation staple for my family. Loved the dolphin tour we took. Didn’t see any dolphins but still had a great cruise and loved the stop at the sandbar for shells and wading. Of course, bought some sponges. There’s also a video of how the sponge harvesting happens. It’s definitely from the 80s or 90s, but that makes it really charming to watch. My mom got a case of the giggles watching it because it was so retro and that’s a memory I’ll always cherish.

I visited the store with my family during our vacation to the area. We all had on masks. The employee working at the time accosted me and told me mask dont work, her governor uses real science, people dont die from COVID, and the vaccine changes peoples DNA. I let her know that the beauty of America is that I have the freedom to make the choice to wear a mask, and I wear mine. The employees actions during my visit were unprofessional and not necessary given the number of new cases in Florida.

I have been coming here for 40+ years. Whenever company came to town, my parents took them to Pappas Restaurant and then a nice tour on the river, and then to look at the vintage sponge exchange. When I was a child I loved the museum and 1950s movie about life here. The same movie is still playing today. The Sponge-O-Rama was hit from the hurricanes last year, and need donations. I will always keep this treasure in my heart!!! What a great Greek community!!

Kinda overpriced, for no reason. Fridge magnets $9 ?! Cmon!Sponges vary from like 5 to about 25 for really big ones.Other than that, they sell a lot of stuff. You can find here a ton of sea treasures, whatever got into the net along with sponges lol😊

The cruise was amazing! Saw dolphins and Anclote Key is a total paradise. I didnt want to pick any shells, but I could see there were so many pretty ones around. Some people found really big ones. The gift shop seems a little overpriced, but had to get a sponge anyhow.

We took the dolphin tour. We didnt get the excursion we paid for. It felt like everyone working there was just doing their job, but didnt actually care about their customers. With so many lovely businesses and passionate business owners, find a different cruise to go on.

After buying $152 worth of sponges I found that I was duped. Sponges and loofahs are less expensive in other stores in the area. When I got home I found that I was entitled to a 20% discount. That would’ve paid for lunch. Also they charge 4.50% service fee for using a credit card. Nothing was said before the transaction.Sneaky Ba——ds. Don’t bother going here.

This place is a joke. We bought our tickets 2 hours before departure and we got there 10 minutes before boarding, like recommended. Unfortunately we didn’t get to board because it was at capacity before our turn to board. None of the workers cared. My 2 and 8 year old children were devastated to be turned away. They refunded our money and yelled and argued with us the whole time. Totally unprofessional. There are tons of cool boat tours in Tarpon Springs that would be happy to have your business. AVOID SPONGEORAMA!

Sadly, the Spongeorama museum is closed and probably for good. Apparently it suffered some water damage and their is major mildew. I doubt there will be any effort to restore and reopen the museum as it always looked dated, but that was part of its charm. The only thing left here is a very old film about sponging and high priced sponges and gift items.

The employees are very nice and knowledgeable about each connected service also. This store also has little tourist trinkets. The prices are very reasonable.

OK, this place isnt for everyone, but if you like quirky, unusual places (and I do) this is cool. This is both a souvenir store - with lots of the sponges for which Tarpon Springs is known - and cheap/overpriced souvenirs. But there is also a free museum and movie that explain the history and process of sponge diving in the town. The museum is only marginally informative, but the creepy dioramas (one with a female mannequin losing her hair! designed by Norman Bates?) had my family in stitches! The movie actually was very informative, but it was one of those really old, dated documentaries like the movies kids watched in school in the 1960s, or like the films on Mystery Science Theater 3000 that Tom Servo and Crow make snarky comments throughout. One plus: if its a hot day, Spongeorama is air-conditioned.A warning: the proprietors will try to hard-sell you on taking a tourist cruise when you leave. Be prepared! Ive heard the cruise is decent and some will actually like it, but it is pricy. Weak, easily influenced people will end up signing up for the tour even though they really didnt want to go.

I think this was once an outdoor market and over the last 20 years they kept putting up walls so that it has eventually become a building. Their free movie appears to have been filmed in the 60s. And if you aint buying then they want you out of there.

My family has done the cruise to the key through sponge-o-rama twice on our visits to tarpon springs. Its always a great time! The boat is spacious and well kept. The staff is professional and friendly. They do a good tour and slow the boat if they see anything interesting such as dolphins or osprey. I knock off one star because I think 30 minutes on the key is too short. It seems like you get off and have to get right back on.

This is where I bought my sponge in the bath soap. I have been there twice but have missed the show both times I dont think I going to try a third time. It was a nice day and I just felt she could have started the tape and let us watch it, other venders in the area felt the same way and previous customers even told the woman that she was kind of rude. when you work with the public you need to cater to the public or the public wont be there for you to keep you open.I would have bought a lot more but I really wanted to see the show so I bought all my other sponges down the street and I spent my money down the street in another store and so did Mom.when you tell the customers you make your own hours that means you could have stayed another 15 minutes and let us watch the tape. I dont know if this review would get to the owner of that company but he might think twice about the woman thats running the shop for him or her. She spent more time complaining about previous customers when we could have been watching the videoabout the sponge divers the whole reason to be there the store advertises it all over the place and then you close the store early we werent the only people that wanted to see there was more people walking in as we were walking outand were very disappointed that they couldnt see the showmaybe the store needs to get somebody to work a second shift there cuz it was only one in the afternoon when we got there you cant run a business when youre close midday.

Just another tourist trap. All these places offer the same junk that is over priced. Dont waste your time with the sponge fishing movie that they are SO proud of. You view it in a stuffy little room on metal sport benches with No air conditioning. The movie itself is a product of the 70s, maybe 80s and horrible quality. Had to sit outside to cool off and the employees are kind and weloming enough to stand out front and light up their cigarette amd puff away. Stay classy Spingorama. Really, dont waste your time.

Weve been there a few minutes ago, watching the free movie. Before entering the museum, we wanted to browse the docks and come back afterwards (and buy some souvenirs of course) when we came back, that old short lady with black hair snarled at us, she was very unfriendly and told us, we should have gone into the museum after watching the movie. So we left. Why buy from someone, who has no idea of customer friendly service?
