Nothing fancy. Just great East Coast style bagels, bagel sandwiches, etc. The bagels are really tasty, boiled, with that soft and crunchy combo. Top an everything or cheese with the plentiful cream cheese and your morning is off to a good start. Great coffee too - a go to that I use for pour over coffee at home.While you wait, look at the wall made with license plates from all over the country.

I’ve never been to the east coast but I have had MANY different types of smear/spread and I gotta say this one hit it out of the park —- it’s super creamy and delicious.The bagels are the chewy kind with accept-ion to the multi grain which was much softer.I had also had a latte which tasted good for a place that’s not a coffee shop.The interior is fun filled with license plates. And the ceiling had some pictures which was also good for the visual interest.There’s also some chairs outside and seating inside for a good time with friends for the early risers.

So many bagel flavors to choose from! The staff was friendly and the service was great. Outdoor seating is still available if you wish to eat there. Great local bagel place I will be visiting again.

Our go-to bagel spot is no longer open on Saturday and Sunday (Bagel Man). Had to find a new weekend New York style bagel and remembered Back East Bagels. I used to come here a long time ago, at least 20yrs ago. Excellent bagel s, employees are super friendly.

I love salt bagels and Back East has them. We decided to hit them up on Sunday morning. So happy they are open at 5:30am, which is fantastic for us early risers. I ordered my bagel with egg, cheese and bacon. It tasted so good. The egg wasnt precooked, it blew my mind. Will be back.

So every Sunday my wife and I go get a lox bagel sandwich with no capers. A friend of mine told me to try this place. I should have known as hes from Iowa not NYC. He meant well and probably really enjoyed whatever he had here. Number one not even close to East coast bagels or service. Number two check the picture two of these cost me $23. Stick with chompies if you want pretty close to back east. Theres a Lebanese guy from back east on Elliot and the i-17 I think his shops called The bagel Man. That one is the freaking bomb if you want to drive. FYI dont mind paying money for a good bagel sandwich. This did not even qualify

I love this bagel shop. I come here a lot. I took a long walk with the pup this morning to back East bagels and did not have a mask. They refused me service. I understand with covid but I experienced extremely rude service. I’m not sure if I will be coming back. offer to take your order outside, possibly? Very disappointing.

They never have bagels. This is a bagel shop and the 4 times I have come there have been no bagels. Dont stay open til 1pm if you are sold out by 10:30. You should close if you are out of bagels. I even called once to ensure there were bagels, that j had fee people and we all wanted bagels, was told yes, there are many bagels. We get there with in 5 mins of the call and there is a single everything bagel. Very disappointing.

They require mask even though the Governor Has Lifted mask mandates. They offered to have me leave instead of handing me a mask. I dont carry a mask around anylonger because I feel I shouldnt have to. Its not required, Ive hand covid recently and should have antibodies and so far have had the 1st vaccine. All they had to do was hand a mask. But reading other reviews they would rather argue but I didnt give the opportunity

These bagels and their sandwiches are all fantastic. I cant rave about them enough. This bagel is the only thing left after I bought the bakers dozen. Sooooo good.

Went in today for a breakfast bagel and when I received my food I asked for JAM, the cook told me to handle that at the cash register. The cashier stated the jam cost. I informed him I was given jam the last time and wasnt aware there was an cost. I also informed him the employees should be on one accord. Im a customer, and at this place they expect you to know what you want. At least if someone order something and dont ask for something, but you know you can offer something to your meal be kind and do that. So I asked him to show me on the board where it states the cost for JUST JAM. He point to the board and stated with a bagel its $2 without a bagel its $1. I stated with me being a customer how am I suppose to know that when its not posted in those words. He got mad at me, his eyes got big, and asked me why was I still there, and I stated because Im a customer having a conversation and you shouldnt be given me an attitude just because I have an concern. He then tried to blame me for having an attitude, but i spoke calm and wasnt loud I just expressed my concern as an customer. Overall it not a crime to just listen to a customer concern, say something kind to make the customer feel better, so we can continue to return.

Best bagel place I’ve been to in the valley. Nice mom and pop place with a huge variety of bagel configurations and my turkey club bagel came in a few minutes.

Mediocre at best got a lox bagel supposed to be toasted wasn’t had maybe 3 capers total..had nothing but iced coffee service wasn’t very friendly was almost inpatient…not a mask in sight for any employees

Great bagels and sandwiches, regular and Iced coffee is fine, but don’t sell specialty coffees if your employees aren’t trained for it. Every latte, cappuccino and frothed beverage I’ve gotten has been luke warm and not properly frothed. If you are going to have these drinks on the menu, have some pride in yourselves... it’s an embarrassing speck on an otherwise great place.

My favorite bagel place is closed on Sundays, but I was craving a bag, so I decided to try this place. The name of the shop is such a lie. The bagels are small and flat, nothing like back home. In addition the microwave their eggs which is absolutely a no for me and so disgusting. If you really are looking for bagels dont go here. Theres The Bagel Man in tempe and bagelerino in Gilbert if youre looking for truely good bagels.

Nothing “Back East” about Back East Bagels.I asked for a Sausage, Egg, and Cheese with a Everything Bagel. I was expecting the sausage and eggs to be cooked (pan fried) but instead I saw they were being microwaved- reheated from already frozen patties and eggs. If Chef Mike (the Microwave) is in the mix when preparing food, it is a flat out no to me- thank you Chef Ramsey for teaching me that.Reason why it doesn’t get a one star because at least the staff is nice but to the owners: invest in an electric skillet and cook the food and retire Chef Mike! People, if you want real bagels done right: Go to the Bagel Man!

Had the Spinach florentine on an everything bagel and I couldnt shut up the entire time I ate it talking about how good it was and how happy I was I found this place. Even the iced coffee was tasty. Best neighborhood bagel shop outside of NYC but they sell out constantly. If you dont get there with in 3 hours of opening, expect to miss out on any bagels. Cream cheese and 6 bagel deal is awesome; cream cheese is $3/tub but is homemade tasting and worth it.

Weirdest thing ever. Legit bagels made there, back east style fresh. But they microwave all the eggs for breakfast sandwiches?? Why? I have no clue. They also often run out of everything bagels. Gotta get there early for one of those. Bagels run just a bit on the smaller side. I work in this plaza so eat here often enough but my go is still the Bagel Man a few miles away for non-microwaved sandwiches and bigger bagels.

I grew up in NY so I could sit here and nitpick, but I’m never disappointed when I stop by Back East Bagels. They make their own cream cheeses, each of which is fantastic and unique, and their bagels are great. They do sell out of the good ones so get there early. I could do without the fennel on the everything bagels but there you go I nitpicked.

Today was the second time i have gone in the late morning and they were sold out of bagels. They are “open until 1pm” but seem to always be low or completely out of bagels? Do they not make them there?? How are you out of bagels 2 hours before closing, why not make more?

Good coffee and good breakfast food. This is my first visit, but my friends who brought me come here all the time and loved it. We all ordered something different and we all enjoyed it. I really liked that they offered peanut butter as one of the toppings for their bagels. It was a much healthier alternative than cream cheese. Although they do have a very impressive collection of cream cheese flavors.

Really wish this place was better. Does not taste like New York or New Jersey bagels. If you like everything bagels this is not the place. But still more decent than Einstein bagels

UnsafeWent in here over the weekend, noticed the teenage staff not wearing masks or gloves. Walked out and took my business to their corporate competitors who are following basic safety standards. Pretty frustrated since this used to be my favorite local bagel shop.

They make their own cream cheese! I love this place. They are super nice! The girl at the cash register helped me decide on a bagel and the guy (I think the manager) overseeing was super friendly and nice when I forgot to add something to my sandwich. The breakfast bagel sandwich on a cheddar bagel is awesome! Im a huge coffee fan too and the iced vanilla and caramel coffee I got there too was perfect.

Ive been getting bagels here for awhile. Always yummy and great service. However lately the customer service has been really lacking and they were rude to my kid. I get that everyone has off days but they have been rude several times in a row now. They are also out of many flavors by 8 am which is annoying. Probably wont be back.

I forgot why I stopped eating here. Today I was up early and went in for a bagel early 8am thinking it was early enough to get a fresh bagel. Nope they gave me a stale bagel again. How they manage to do that so often confuses me. I have had fresh Bagels at this establishment just not often. My guess is my bagel was from yesterday. Also they switched to Pepsi which I appreciate because I will never make the mistake of ever eating here again. I’m warning you. Go to Einstein’s on Guadalupe it’s a mile away.

I used to get my breakfast here two three times a week when I worked at McClintock High School So this is a great place to make a great cup of coffee its local owner has been there for years good quality shop local this is the place you want to go Dont go across the street to Starbucks but you can go to the gold bar across from Starbucks its local too and I love their coffee.

Was ok, service was a little slow and it wasnt busy, bagels were flavorful but way over proofed to puffy, place was clean but display in front didnt look appetizing dusty looking bagels I get why its there some people need help understanding what a doz with cream cheese looks like but change up bagels so they dont look old and crusty...would try it again

When I walked in the lady seemed uninterested, and I ordered my western bagel sandwich, it was 6 bucks which I thought meant it would come with cream cheese, so I asked for some and she gave me a little scoop being nice, but she said they normally charge. And I realized by the time I filled out my receipt the food was already done. I read reviews and realized they microwave the eggs, there was really no flavor. Then I ordered a sesame seed bagel with strawberry cream cheese and the cream cheese was not sweet at all. Tasted like they forgot some kind of sweetener in it. The bagels are good, but like others said the customer service is just not really great, and things are overpriced for what they put into it

Good East Coast Bagel, true to their name. Crunchy outside airy inside, lightly toasted. I had an everything bagel and the seeds were abundant and unique in a good way. You can see they were not a generic bagel. Only negative was the amount of cream cheese was ridiculous, just need a smear for a good bagel, it was hard to eat since it slide around but I managed.. cuz it was yummyJust ask for lite cheese and you wont be disappointed... Nov 3rd update.. I just learned that while I thought by living and working in a NY Deli located in South Florida I knew the bagel world I was wrong. NY delis do add way too much cream cheese to their bagels. Big apologies!! But we all know New Yorkers go to Florida to retire so I thought I was basing my opinion on truth..

Ive been going here for a couple of years. The food is delicious for sure, that is why I go back. Only negatives is the overall service and experience. The staff is not overly friendly, just people doing their job, passing time and taking their time. I can only go for lunch and they close at 2pm. If you go there at 1:30 they often already have the chairs on the tables ready to close up, not very inviting and a turn off. It seems like showing up at 1:30 is an inconvenience because they are trying to clean up. Love the Philly Pastrami though when it not all gone!

Simply a delight. The pastries, the bagels, sandwiches, garden salads, Italian sodas, espressos - all top-notch. Ive never been disappointed by this establishment. The green chalkboard menu, license plate decor, acoustic girl music, and friendly staff really take me back to a simpler time. This place also sells various pieces of art and furniture. If youre in the Tempe area, be sure to visit this gem. You wont be disappointed.

The bagels were... okay? The coffee was absolutely terrible. The two types that werent empty came out looking very transparent. Sure enough, they were extremely watered down. I let the person at the counter know, and she took one of the dispensers back, just to bring it back out 10 seconds later with the same coffee. Apparently, they think coffee is supposed to look and taste like dirty water.

This has been our family’s favorite bagel shop since I was a kid and they were located in the lakes. We watched this place grow and move, we also watched the quality and the customer service remain top notch. Then covid hit, and they do not believe in masks.... we have been here 5 times since this all started and every time we have gone the employees are not wearing mask. They have signs on the door stating masks are mandatory and customers have them on, but the employees are not following their own rules. We are done and will never come back, and this breaks my heart.

I really love the bagels and bagel sandwiches at this place. The coffee is great too. Great vegetarian options. The Daniels lox and bagel is amazing. The only thing that can be hit or miss is the staff. Theyve gone through a crew that really worked well together...and now it just depends on when you go, who you get and how fast you get it.
