I recently went to Tuffy Tire & Auto on Ansborough Ave., Waterloo to have some wheel vibration checked out, suspecting possible control arm or ball joint issues. The staff was exceptional, checked out front end, all 4 wheels and their rotations, realized there was a simple problem with hub-centric rings that were affecting the seating of the OE wheels. I went to Tuffys in Waterloo for an inspection and estimated repair, and left with my car driving without the vibrations, and was not charged for this! Where do you find this kind of service and professionalism? Tuffy Tire & Auto Service on Ansborough Ave., thats where!

Update: called the fellas yesterday about getting in for a new brake light. Dropped in between 12 and 1230 today and was out the door in 7 minutes. Fast service and they did it for free. Thanks guys..They do not complete services they say they have! I am usually a satisfied customer and have been using Tuffys for over 5 years. Dropped off car for an oil change at 730 am on a Wednesday morning (scheduled appointment on that previous Monday). Arrive to be told Im not on their schedule but theyll squeeze it in. Ok, fine. Hadnt heard anything all day so I call at noon to see when it will be ready and it had been done for awhile. Im not sure why I wasnt contacted when it was finished. Normally I have no issues with their service, but Im pretty disappointed this time. They say they check tire pressure and rotate tires during their oil change, this is a blatant lie. I drove in with rear drivers side tire low on air, I pull out to see my low air dash light still on and, surprise surprise, its the rear drivers side tire. So no pressure check and they definitely didnt rotate tires. Im starting to wonder what else they charge you for and still skimp you on...

Since moving to Waterloo (The Cedar Valley) I was looking for a reliable, affordable & friendly new autoshop. I have had all my auto repair performed at Tuffy and would recommend them to everyone. Leland, Jeff and crew have taken excellent care of my needs whether big or small and always go above and beyond! I always feel welcome anytime I stop in. I feel like Im visiting family every time. Theyve always listened to my vehicle concerns without ever making feel like I dont know what I am talking about. 2 years in and not one issue or price gauge. 10 Stars!

Made an appointment for an oil change. I called earlier in the day to confirm the time . The gentleman who answered the phone said I could bring it early if I wanted to but I had so many things going on that day I was not able to make it in earlier than my scheduled time however I was exactly on time even a few minutes early for my scheduled appointment. I had my three grandsons with me ages three four and eight. We walk over to grab some lunch and was told the oil change would take 45 minutes to an hour to complete. 55 minutes later I returned after walking back from the restaurant with my three grandsons to find that the oil change had not even began. When I questioned why the oil change was not done I was told that he was just finishing his safety inspection. I never asked for a safety inspection and although its a great gesture and I know part of their sales package clearly having three kids and tote I was not looking to hang out there any longer than necessary. The person got very ignorant with me in our conversation and then tried to project me as the person wrong by saying to another employee see what we have to put up with here . I would think that if youre going to do a safety inspection you could either age it a little quicker or be do it after the service that someone was there to pay for, especially with 3 children in tote. There was only one other car in the entire building and they were not working on it when I arrived there nor when I walked back from the restaurant so with there being at least three employees that I could see I would think it went to bed that hard to get my car done in an hours time if you cared at all about your customers. after sitting around waiting another 15 minutes the gentleman decided to come out and apologize to me and tell me there would be no charge so that is the only reason I gave two stars instead of one but at the end of the day that didnt matter to me as much as being treated so rudely and feeling disrespected for them having no value in my time whatsoever. Im a tired Grandma I dont have time to sit around and wait more time than absolutely necessary for a service that I was paying for.

Tuffy does great work and their staff are professional and courteous. However, they try to upsell you everything. I got my oil changed and I walked out with paperwork saying I needed new tires, shocks and struts, windshield washer fluid tank, etc. Ill get my oil changed there but any other work they do is marked up significantly more than Im comfortable paying. I also took my vehicle to a Ford Certified Master Technician after this appointment. All I needed were new tires and the cheapest quote from Tuffy was $980 for 4 new tires on a compact car... I got them at the dealership mounted and balanced for $550.

I had my husband call to get a quote to replace the ignition coils and spark plugs on my 2013 BMW 328i. That quote came back to $905, and I laughed. Anything above $550, I would decline. They wanted to double charge me for labor, when you have to remove the ignition coils FIRST to even replace the spark plugs. Then they priced out 4 coils at $100 a piece, and 4 spark plugs for $35 a piece. I already priced both out myself, as I can/have done this job myself. I just wanted something more convenient for myself. I bought all the parts (4 Echlin coils, 4 NGK spark plugs) for $275 from Napa, and found a mechanic that will do the swap for $110 for 1.5 hours of work. And I would gladly pay $110 to not do it myself, even if I have done it myself in the past. Including changing my own brakes/rotors, oil separator, fuel pump, oil changes, etc... I firmly believe if you have a car, you should educate yourself on simple maintenance to prevent bigger issues in the long run. But this place, I think banks on people that dont know. How else can you justify double labor, and astronomical quotes with overcharged part prices? Ridiculous.

They told me 2 hours of labor and 25. In parts but they billed me over 400. I asked why the bill was so expensive and that’s when they tell me about all the add on fees. Workmanship ship seems to be good but deceptive pricing practices.

Ive been coming to these guys for a couple years now and wont go anywhere else. Friendly and professional, Ive never been upsold or been handed excuses.

I have gone to Tuffy’s several times for oil changes and they take great care of my truck. Great value for the service and staff is always very friendly and helpful. I have sent my family their for work on vehicles and have always had very good service.

Tuffys has been taking care of my vehicles for over a decade. They have been amazing! They keep my vehicles running as best as they can be! I trust their advice about how soon an issue found during inspection will need to be addressed. If they cannot provide a service they will help me find what I need.The best part is a great team that really works well together!

A lil overpriced but good people.Update I took my vehicle for a check engine light. They determined i needed a 1200+ dollars catalytic converter to fix the problem. After the repair I still have the same code for the check engine light, after several attempts, still the problems persists. I have talked to the local shop in Waterloo IA and have asked for a refund to no avail, not even a call back. I told them i will be filing a suit in small claims and plan to on the 15th.

Went to Tuffy based on these Google reviews. Felt confident that they’d be able to take care of my vehicle. When I went in, they did a once over on my vehicle and quoted me over $4500 in repairs. They also ordered me brand new OEM plate lights. Luckily they were only $26.99 ea. I was assured that these new plate lights would solve my issue and when I installed them, they are still non functioning. I had scheduled an appointment with Leland on 8/6 for 1500hrs on 8/7, when I arrived for my appointment, Leland gave me the runaround and told me I need to go to a Ford dealer to have my vehicle serviced. What’s the point of an appointment? Needless to say, I now have to wait another week to have my vehicle looked at and will likely not be returning to Tuffy Auto Care for any maintenance.UPDATE: After taking my vehicle to Bill Colwell Ford. I found that Tuffy was incorrect on 3 of the 4 diagnosis’s they gave. Would’ve been $4500 in repairs just to continue having the same issues.

Incredibly friendly and took me home and came to pick me up to bring me back when my car was done, they did everything to make sure i wasnt paying an arm and leg to fix my car, definitely will return for future repairs!

Youre able to help me in a pinch right as I was moving and you rainbow the fix my car up and offer me different options and plans so that I can make a really informed decision based on those options. I cant say enough great things about Tuffys and their manager LeLand. Our family was on a road trip from MN to Florida when our alternator failed while we stopped in Waterloo for gas and lunch. We were directed to Tuffys and their manager LeLand made several calls to track down an alternator (for an Audi) that would arrive the next afternoon and not 2 days later. He was kind enough to give us a loaner car, recommended a hotel in town that gave us a discount on a room for the night,they really went above and beyond. He got the parts in early the next day and was done with our car ahead of schedule. It allowed us to get back on the road quickly and still have time to enjoy our vacation. He and his team were polite, friendly and professional. If you are passing through Waterloo IA and suddenly having car issues, do whatever you can to get over to Tuffys because LeLand and his team will take care of you. We cannot thank them enough!

Had a small issue after engine replacement, they resolved it, and got us right in! Matt and his team are very kind, and truly care about people, trust me when I say its not about the money for them and they truly do care about people and just want their customers happy and to have customers return!!! Tuffy is awesome here and will even walk you through and trouble shoot with you!

I am a 25 year old college kid who knows nothing about cars. Not only do these guys go out of their way to make sure you get the service you need but they also tell you when something isn’t currently necessary to save you money, unlike others who just try and build the bill. They will give you a ride if you need or you can just hang around and get to know these great guys!I took my car in for an oil change and squeaky breaks. 15 minutes into it the manager took me to my car to show me the problems he was talking about and after Watching my eyes turn into saucers at the bill, took the time to work with me and even gave me the oil change for free.Seriously the best service you will ever get and from people who genuinely care about their jobs!

My car had a lot of things wrong with it, and Im new to the area and took it to Tuffy just because it was close to home and convenient, now I will never take it anywhere else. Matt and his crew were beyond amazing. They got my car done in just a few hours and even came to pick me up when it was done. The price was reasonable as well but their customer service is what will keep me coming back. Definitely will recommend Tuffy to any and everyone!

Always super friendly. The manager Mike is a God send. I always bring my trucks in for the oil changes. I brought my truck in and ended up needing a whole new brk system basically. He found a loan for me through one of theyre programs and I got 2300$ worth of work done that day. They took me home and came to pick me up when the wrk was done.

Matt and his team did a fantastic job on my vehicle. Matt help me understand what was wrong with my vehicle by actually taking me to my car and showing me what was wrong. They have great prices and finance plans. When my vehicle was out of commission he put me in a rental vehicle and didnt charge me for it. What a great place to go!!!

I went into tuffys today to have them look at a issue on my vehicle. Which is a subaru Forester, the previous shop was not very knowledgeable about my kind of vehicle. from the time I walked in and From the time I walked out I was treated extremely well. I have never experienced customer service like this before at any auto shop. Jeff (assistant Manager) was very knowledgeable, Tanner (mechanic) is very good at what he does. They even took me to see what was actually going on with my vehicle. By The Grace of The lord Im so pleased with coming here. I do plan on making this shop my one and only for all my car needs. If I could do 0 stars I would! They work on vehicles that were there for an estimate only and not okayed by owner before worked on. They charge for parts that arent needed and tried to charge for 2 oil changes when it wasnt there for that! Diagnostics were not free even though they stated it was at the time. If you dont know whats wrong with your car definately dont go here because you will be taken advantage of!

Brought car in for estimate, received a print off for work, parts, and labor costs out the door. Took car back a couple weeks later to get the work done and final bill was 120$ more due to the fact that some parts were rusted out and broke during the repair process. Now Im fine with circumstantial things happening during repairs, but appreciate being informed before the fact or during the fact, not after the fact. More frustrating was the fact that the owner conversed with me like he let me know the issues, however not until I asked is this going to cost me more?did he finally tell me yes. Furthermore, the conversation leading up to me asking if it was going to cost more he acted like these rusted parts were just part of the job and common practice. If that is the case why werent they included in the hard copy, printed off estimate? I highly recommend not going here unless you enjoy paying an 80% increase in your quoted price.

Wow what an amazing experience! We were traveling from about 5 hours away to Waterloo for a BBQ Competition. Traveling in a truck with a bbq cook rig in tow. We were experiencing difficulties with very strong tire vibrations. We called the Chevy dealer, no help there, two other local shops, absolutely no help there, FINALLY! a light of hope, Tuffys Tire & Auto Service. Matt answered the phone and took care of us like family, if only we would have called Tuffy’s first. We dropped off the truck and they then gave us a loaner to boot, a much appreciated gesture.We were so very very lucky to have them fix our tires, a near blowout! Kane was so gracious and went out of his way to show us what could have been a disaster on Interstate 20! The people, the service, their waiting room is all amazing! While on a cross country road trip, the engine temperature gauge started fluctuating on our Nissan Frontier. I called two Nissan dealerships in the Cedar Falls and Waterloo area for service, explaining our dilemma of being away from home and also that we were towing a small travel trailer. Neither dealership was interested in assisting us, telling us they couldn’t even get our truck into their service department for three or four days. I then called Tuffy’s and spoke with Jeff. I explained our situation and he immediately reassured me they could get us in that day and would get the vehicle diagnosed. We checked into a local motel and unhooked the travel trailer, and then drove our truck over to Tuffy’s. Jeff was so helpful and accommodating, and their mechanics had the problem diagnosed and repaired by the next morning—a huge relief for us, especially since we are towing our travel trailer across the country. We highly recommend this auto repair shop—Jeff even gave us a military discount and thanked us for our service!

Had vehicle towed in for repair they were unable to properly diagnose due to not having proper software. They were very help full and paid for it to be towed to local dealership.

Not thorough. Constant, recurring car problems since living in the area and going here for repairs. Have already paid double the amount for the car in repairs here which dont even address the main problems I am facing.

Called to Make an appointment to have and estimate done. Made the appointment and confirmed the time and date twice before ending the call. Arrived at the store on the date that I confirmed only to have the staff tell me that it was not the day I confirmed twice but the next day. When I informed them of their mistake they disagreed. Asked if they could fit me in and they said they could not. They made an obvious mistake and rather then make it right they asked if i could bring it back they next day. I declined. If something as simple as scheduling an appointment is too difficult for Tuffys to handle I dont know if i trust them to fix my vehicle.

They did an oil change and rotated my tires. They pounded on my tire to get it off. I heard a clang and then next thing I know I have a broken sway bar. They say they didnt do it. I had my car checked not even a month ago and no broken sway bar. AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE!! They draw you in with their coupons then they break your stuff and want you to pay for what they did. AGAIN AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!
