Honestly one of my favorite bookstores ever! Friendly and helpful but not overbearing staff, great selection of coffee table books, novels, and poetry. Love from Philly 💗
So happy to be back here! Great selection and wonderful ambience of a real, classic bookstore. Great sale section as well. Friendly, helpful service.
A bit sad I couldnt get actual soup. Aside from that, the location and atmosphere contains a niche that is welcoming. The book selection is vast and there are interesting pieces of art that are appealing to those that enjoy it. Recommend this place once everything opens up.
One of my familys favorite local bookstores. Truly has something for everyone.
I asked for book categories and the friendly and helpful staff assisted me immediately. They made really good suggestions. I felt welcome and comfortable.
Great service and hard to find books
Excellent bookstore with a fantastic staff. And I found some great deals!
Love having an actual bookstore to visit, as an avid reader its a joy to visit
Been here in 2016 . The staff is nice, and so many books 📚😍👌
Great iconic spot...
Such an authentic feeling with a great and varied selection of books.
One of my favourite bookshops
Love Book Soup. Courteous and informative staff.
Outstanding, Danielle is the best!
Very covid safe. My appointment to shop was a tonic in these social distanced times. Loved how much care is being taken to keep staff and customers safe. Thank you Booksoup.
One of the best book stores in LA (if youre into that sort of thing). Lots of books on progressive art, photography, film, television, media, local history.Accessible to the not so book inclined as well as the literati. Theres a little something for everyone. Its a local staple. And if youre really curious about books, there is a rare book store hidden behind Book Soup.
Wow, a science fiction bookstore. A member of an endangered species. This place is quite homey. Pretty good book selection. Nice, friendly staff. Very convenient location.
So many used books and even series in very good conditions. Unlike some of the reviews here, I find the outdoor book shelves are sorted by genres. I didnt have to waste time digging each shelf for some random gem. There are even more inside the store, which is right next to the outdoor garage. They have some seriously good collections. I can spend more than an hour just looking at books and still feel silence very charming.
Greatest place on earth
A hidden gem for book lovers ! Great selections, well stocked, with a knowledgeable, welcoming staff. Best place for hard to find books .
I love bookstores. This bookstore I love more than others.Recently a friend came to visit from out of town. She loves bookstores like I do. I took her here before we hit the town for some drinks/food. It was a good time and we are obviously giant dorks. There are few reasons I miss being in Harvard Square like I used to. This place is one.
Incredible and cozy! My fav library! And top notch location on Sunset!
Book Soup! what a great store with overly helpful staff. if they dont have it they will order it for you in a heartbeat. their reviews are helpful, they have a great selection, and their travel section is extensive. cant say enough good things about this store, so go support your local bookstore before borders/B&N digest them all.
You can tell this store is run by people who love love love books & reading. Great curation and the staff recommendations are thoughtfully explained. I also appreciated how clean (and not dusty) it was for a bookstore. This place makes me want to sit down and read forever! There is 1 hr parking available for visitors as well.
No matter what city Im visiting, I have to find a used or locally owned bookstore. Find the right one and you get a feel for the neighborhood and the people, and its always nice to pick up an employee recommendation instead of books that are pushed through based on the publishers needs.
Because they have the most awesome costumer service, and the BEST signed books, and when I cannot come or send the husband, they deliver! Where else do you find the most amazing finds. Here only here!
I love when a bookstore can find its own niche and serve a group that isnt taken care of as they should be. While Im not a sci-fi/fantasy and more reader at all (ok, once in awhile), I still love that this genre has some personalized service. The adjacent cafe is awesome with one of the most comfortable settings in this wild and wonderful neighborhood.
Awesome bookshop in the thick of East Lakeview. Huge selection of recently printed material. Easy to find something to read. Had a number of books on my book list and then some. Found a few extra. One room had endless stacks of on sale books that were on NYT lists so definitely worth checking out.
The Book Soup Store on Sunset Blvd is an intimate environment that allows the typical book nerd to explore the aisles without caution. Dan and his staff are super accommodating. Although our family reside in the valley, the trip to the Sunset store is always worth the journey. You can tell Book Soup is worth their salt by the number of events on their calender. Recommended for any out-of-towners in search of a cozy-den store. Try it.
Awesome cute book store. Crowded with books, but in a fresh, good way. Lots of book recommendations all over the store to call attention to particular titles the staff have selected, and many titles have been signed by their author. Friendly, young, hip staff.
Cute little shop with amazing books. Love the recommendations written across the different genres written by employees. Its a great spot to go to with lots of author readings/signings.
This is very good bookshop. This bookshop helps me a lot. This book increase my knowledge level with respect to others. This book makes me very intelligent.
They have a large selection of books of all genres. I especially love their sale section, which is pretty sizeable and the selection here is pretty good too. A lot of times, the sale section in a bookstore will be random books/authors Id never heard of before, but they have a good array. The staff is really nice too, which I appreciate.
Called asking if they are going to get a book that is released tomorrow and spoke to the most helpful and kind associate. She was really great, gave me all the info and was in such a positive mood. Ive loved Book Soup before but I just re-fell in love. Best local bookstore by far
Book Soup is my favorite bookstore. The first few times I visited, I had intended to just kill some time by browsing and I ended up with a heavy bag full of books. The staff are all incredibly friendly and helpful, and it adds to the great atmosphere and positive vibes. When I first entered Book Soup, it felt like a flashback to when I was a kid and I had to pick out a book for summer reading. I felt a genuine excitement as I roamed up and down each aisle. I love reading the staff picks and the reviews about books throughout the store. Some are thought provoking, others are chuckle inducing, but they all provide great information without giving up spoilers. The best part of Book Soup are the numerous author events that they hold. The authors will read an excerpt, answer a few questions, and then sign books. If you cant make it to an event, they generally will have extra signed copies you can purchase. Be sure to check their website frequently.
Thank goodness for independent bookstores. Will support them all day long. Staff here super friendly and helpful. They helped us find appropriate reading material for our kids based on their age and interests. They helped me find some obscure books based on my interest in ancient history. Love this place. I can spend hours here.
I love bookstores and this one is adorable. The staff was great!! Helpful, friendly. Went to a Q&A with an author which was wonderful!! Wish there was a tad more room. Great opportunity to hear from the author though!!!!
Book Soup is a sci-fi lovers dream. Covered floor-to-ceiling with epic tales of adventure and suspense, you could walk in every single day and always find a new book worth reading.
Great selection of books and a very mellow ambiance for avid readers to select their next read. Pricing is pretty consistent with Amazon so support your local business! Plenty of street parking and a small lot behind the building will make your trip easier.
Absolutely LOVE dropping into Book Soup! The store is super cute with a great location, has every type of book you can imagine including titles that may otherwise be hard to find. Love the privacy of the tall shelves that are very easy to get lost in. I spend between $80-$300 every time I drop in so I have to be careful!
This is one of the best bookstores that I have ever been to and I cant recommend it enough! Both locals and tourists a like shop Book Soup. The bookstore has one of the largest selections that Ive ever seen of books - they have have a huge variety of rare, used and new books plus various gifts so theres really something here for everybody. Some books that Ive only seen sold online they have for sale here which is excellent. If you like to read actual books this is the place to go. An impressive collection of books for all ages and preferences.
Even if the world were filled with book stores, youd want to make a trip or two or five to Book Soup. The place is magical. Even if youd never read a single book in your life, walking in the front door of this amazing place will make you want to read everything in sight. As soon as you walk in, its got an old world feel without losing sight of contemporary interests. And no matter the genre, youre likely going to find it. And if not, theyll order it for you. Plenty of public parking a block east on Sunset on the north side, plunk a couple of hours into the meter. Youre going to want to stay awhile.
It was a pleasure indeed to visit this lovely bookstore. It is a warm and quaint hideaway with tons of selections.I entered and it took my breath away. I did not want to leave. I appreciated every nook and cranny and even all the quotes posted on the bathroom wall. I look forward to returning.
Really excellent bookstore. Great, eclectic selection with some truly fine recommendations. I discovered a new author based on a recommendation they had posted and both my wife and I ended up loving the book and cant wait for this author to write again. Nice people, great location off Sunset. This was one of our destination spots when my family was staying on Sunset for a business trip. You can find parking in the back.
Amazing bookstore with a great selection. It’s nice to be able to visit a bookstore that feels like a bookstore.
Friendly and very helpful staff! Support your local book stores and go in here to browse many fantastic and unique finds! Awesome LA history photo books. Parking lot across the street $2 per hour.
One of the best bookstores on Earth. And theyre very dog friendly. We love them
Book Soup is a terrific bookstore. They have an enormous, quicky selection of books other items. The booksellers are knowledgeable and helpful. I love going there for signings.
Looks like pretty small bookstore from the front, but its packed with shelves with a pretty good variety of books.Parking sucks on the main street as expected, but try behind the store or in the residential area.Lots of people probably know about Book Soup from talks/events and for good reason. They arent a big space and cant fit many people, but they are able to pull some pretty high level authors, celebrities, etc. to do talks & presentations as well as plenty of less known, but no less interesting authors, speakers. They tend to have new books, and I imagine rent in the area is high, so dont expect bargain basement prices like the local used book store. With that said, I recommend supporting this place. Theres a lot of good stuff there even not counting the talks, events.Service has always been very nice and very helpful, but if you want to be left alone, they seem cool with that too and dont hover over you.Support your local independent bookstore. Definitely beats the big name corporate chains we all know about.
In my first visit, I bought a used copy of the Tom Hanks Movie of the Century (Big, duh), as well as a used copy of the coolest country cookbook ever known to an amateur, wanna-be chef: The Fannie Farmer Cookbook.I am SO legit now.
Great place to pick up books and they have an amazing selection, plus great service. Very well organized. I bought all of my Christmas gifts here.
This is one of the great bookstores left in Los Angeles. Has an environment that seems from another era. Not a huge store which is good, its manageable, with lots of hand-written identifiers lining the shelves and racks. I hope it never goes away.
Great selection of books and friendly staff. Music section was really exceptional. Atmosphere was low key and comfortable- loved the magazine selection and memorabilia. What a pleasure.
Its immediately obvious why some independent bookstores have thrived + survived the big box booksellers and Amazon. Book Soup is good for the soul! Ever-changing window displays. One of the last best magazine stands in West Hollywood. Inside is the latest fiction + nonfiction, a terrific selection of cards, fun accessories for the bookish. And a rather amazing schedule of author readings and signings—15 or 20 every month!—at the store and in larger nearby venues. Before you bring another bottle of wine, stop by Book Soup and find a book you know your host will love. Youll be invited back. 📚📖🔖Shhhhh! There is a small parking lot in the alley behind the store—accessed from Palm or Larrabee. And a large public lot across the street and one block east on Sunset.
What a great find! Love this book store and staff is helpful. Great location and intellectual stimulation on Sunset.
No better place to spend an afternoon browsing at a leisurely pace. If you love books do not miss this spot. A book for every sensibility!
I moved to Los Angeles 16 years ago and lived right up the hill from Book Soup. I remember exploring my new city but finding this place magical. Book Soup is one of those places that if you visit Los Angeles you should come and see and if you live in Los Angeles you must visit. The store has an amazing selection of books, their staff is wonderful and if they dont have the book youre looking for they will find it for you and get it.
I love this store. Amazing selection of used books. A haven for any sci-fi/fantasy geek. Extremely organized, friendly staff. My only complaint is that they dont have much of a graphic novel section but other than that, this place is rockin the universe :)
Despite having a real love of indie bookstores I wont be back any time soon. I was told I had to check my backpack at the counter when I entered (which made me feel like a thief), and then a the person at the register tried to trick me into buying a tiny match book for $3 as I was paying for my book. Who is robbing whom? #irony. Overall, not a fan.
I’ve always wanted to visit book soup (I live in New York), and it lived up to my expectations. Great selection, well curated and organized. I love this bookstore!
I came here in July 2017. Staff were very knowledgeable and friendly, I was able to purchase 2 obscure titles immediately that I couldnt find in other stores. Carries a great range accross many genres, also has vinyl and gifts/merchandise. Would love to spend more time and money here.
Great Bookstore with helpful workers. Great place to browse and find books that you never knew about. And great author signings almost nightly. Look at their website for upcoming events.
Great store. A lot to see. Way...bigger than it looks!!! Lots of interesting finds in this store. Fair prices and many different books and even author autographed books!!!
Lovely book shop and knowledgeable staff. She new the book I was after and the story in the book. Great bookshop!
This bookstore has been here forever. It has survived the Barnes and Nobles and the Borders. That is reason enough to check it out. You will see books that you havent seen elsewhere and there is a great discount section with books you actually will read.
Nice indie book store. Lots of unusual, interesting books, especially books about cats, for some reason. You can get lost in here for hours. The staff is real friendly and helpful.
Beautiful book store, parking is not great but that’s LA for you. Definitely worth the trip. Great books, nice employees-what more could you ask for?
Great selection and very helpful, nice staff plus great service. Very well organized.
Book Soup is a must visit. An amazing collection of books. Well organized, stocked and in an environment that values and welcomes literacy.
Very knowledgeable staff. A book geeks delight
Great independent book store with a great diversity in the books offered. The layout made it easy to find whatever youre interested in.
Love this place! They always have the new releases right up front and their Employee Picks are a joy and something that the big boxes Borders and Barnes & N just try to duplicate.
Super cute place!! Prices arent unreasonable, a restroom is available, really nice and helpful employees. All the books are separated nicely as well. Definitely am making this my new book store!
This is my favorite independent bookstore in LA! They have quite a selection for being so small (owing to their unique, tall bookshelves), and the staff recommendations are very helpful. I’ve spent many hours here and found quite a few of my favorite books.
This is one of the best bookstores in the world. Helpful, cool, knowledgeable staff, amazing selection. It would be too easy to spend all my money here.
One of the best, thats why its still standing. Now with a new mini outdoor seating area. Books, cards, magazines, travel books, snacks, bathroom, notebooks
Awesome book store. The staff is kind and friendly and very informed. Just went to a book signing here and it was the perfect intimate setting for speeches etc. Highly recommend for all your book needs!
Top staff and good selection. The racks are kept neat. One store Amazon didnt destroy yeah. We need more like of those.
I love Book Soup!! They have a wonderful selection and a very cozy atmosphere. Probably my favorite bookstore in LA.
Wow this place is a soup emphorium. Staff very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. Definitely will come back. Well recommended. Go with time to explore, refine and buy.
Great vibe with a great selection. Love browsing through their games, they always have smart ones Ive never heard of.
I simply ADORE Book Soup for their used book section downstairs. I also love browsing the gift section and the bargain books section.
Staff is super knowledgeable and have generally good taste. Everyone is different but theyll definitely get you started. I came back for the selection and service.
Unbelievably friendly and knowledgable staff. Great place to look for recommendations or just find whatever you need. A copy of Stephen Kings Outsider special UK edition was not being sold in the US but they managed to get it for me on backorder, something Amazon or other online retailers could never do. Ive refused to buy a single book anywhere else in months.
A great treasure of West Hollywood. They have a wide selection of books (as expected), but they also carefully curate staff picks. They additionally sell plenty of magazines, cards, and various knick knacks. This is often my first stop when shopping for a gift.
This is really nice bookstore and they have a lot of nice collections of books and they also have a nice treats for their customer.
Ordered online. Good communication and accurate order.
Nice classic book store. Has a huge variety of books and gifts. Authors have book signings here. Street parking. Located in an interesting area on Sunset Blvd.
Great selection of contemporary reads! This is where I get the New Yorker and other magazines when they come out, and its always been exciting!
I love real bookstores and this one is huge!! So many genres and I love that there are personal suggestions. Definitely recommend, and Ill be returning!
Best book store!! Amazing selection. The staff is amazing. You name it and most likely they have it!! A must go!!
Staff is really friendly and well-informed, had a book ordered and ready for me to pick up when I arrived. Wide range of books, free parking in the back, limited metered street parking in front
Wow.Lol man. What a cool bookstore. If you are visiting LA and you like books at all, or even if you maybe dont, I would still certainly recommend checking this place out.Great selection. Well organized, and hell, you may very well run into Lionel Richie just like I did.Lol.Thanks
Great book store. something for everyone
