I honestly will probably never step foot in here again, I got a half hearted hello when I walked in, was looking at serveral different items. There was no customer service, not even a any questions, or can I help you find something. Just keep talking amongst them selves. Not even have a nice day on my way out. 0 stars. Yes you have nice selection but your customer service is shotty at best

Active Imagination is the quintessential friendly local game store. They have a wide selection of games ranging from family to hard core gamer, and of course have Magic the Gathering and Warhammer. They were hit hard by the covid shutdown and had to reduce their size, but they still have a decent sized play area, and a selection of free to play demo games that include some rather rare titles like the hard to find Starcraft.

This is the only hobby store I go to, along with great merchandise, awesome customers and events, the owner is super cool, and would highly recommend for any nerd hobbiests in albuquerque

I was very surprised by my visit here! They have such a great selection of games both new and old and at a great price! I picked up a game for me and my wife and had a great date night at home! Also I’m not that deep into miniatures but if you are looking for some this is the place! They can also make special orders for you if they don’t have what you’re looking for! Overall I love this store and the staff and will be shopping here again and hopefully playing some board games here with my family when things return to normal! Shop local! Active Imagination is a staple in Albuquerques boardgame community that has provided entertainment for many years. I started shopping here again awhile ago and found some unique games. Mandy also always remembers customer names who come in which is really nice to feel valued as a customer.

Do yourself a favor, if you enjoy analog gaming (not video games) stop in. The staff is always friendly and super knowledgeable on everything they sell, and they sell just about everything a person looking for a board or card game could want or if youre into role playing games they have stuff for that too. This place is essential for geeks and nerds who like IRL RPGs. There are not a lot of stores like this in Albuquerque, but this one does it the best.

I dont remember the exact date when I first visited this store, but it was years ago. I was there for 40k supplies and models that day since my usual store had closed. Ive been a fan since. Staff are awesome and they are very knowledgeable in their merchandise. It became a great hub to meet other players and hobbyists.

Great spot with a lot of room for playing games. Many many tables and removable toppers to give a larger play area. Good selection of games for sale.

Super friendly staff who have gone out of their way to be kind, helpful, and informative as my ten year old son has gotten into gaming. They are very willing to ask questions and offer free information about rules, and other game play nuances. My son has began participating in Tuesday night Magic, and Friday night Magic and I feel very safe with the group of people. I stay with him, obviously at his age, but will feel very comfortable leaving him when he is older. All of the more experienced players have been nothing but kind, helpful, and generous with their time, experience, and unused equipment. We drive a good 30 minutes just to go to this store and I wouldnt change. Would recommend highly!

Great place for educational kids toys and games. Good uptown location as well. They also offer classes and workshops which our kid enjoys.Prices are high but the store is nice and is a specialty store.

Owner always has the information we need and outstanding suggestions when we are looking for something new. Huge selection of new and older games. The local clientele and groups seem to be welcoming and patient, but we have yet to come in for a game night. Highly recommended if youre in need of a phenomenal game shop.

Loved it the second I walked in. I would just like to point out that the snack collection in the back is unparalleled. Full fridge full of drinks, full freezer of frozen meals, etc. Offers a great way to support the store a bit without having to buy games all the time.

First time visiting, ended up getting dungeon of the mad mage board game after looking through a great selection of games. A really nice and quaint store with a huge playing area in the back, the employee that helped me was super knowledgeable (I forget his name, he had long hair) and friendly and even offered to order things in for me that I was interested in without charging me first. They also have a good selection of games for people to play. Great experience, plus points for him actually pronouncing Drizzt correctly :D.

Very small, but great people and hard to find merchandise. Has a community all its own, and even sets up tournaments and such to grow it. If youre a nerd like me, its definitely a place to check out.

This is a great local game store. They have an abundance of play space to hang out and play games. The staff can help you find tournaments or play groups for whatever games you are into. Stop by and pick up a new board game.

The staff here are genuinely nice people with a lot of knowledge and experience in gaming. The prices are what youd expect for table top gaming. And you can find some real gems here if youre lucky. Like I got two halfling rogue minis for $5 and the guy informed me of the best ways to paint, customize, and even edit the minis to fit my character better. Not to mention, in my experience, the atmosphere here is nothing short of amicable. Sure, players have formed parties and not all are open for play all the time but Ive yet to meet anyone mean spirited or too closed ranks to be polite to a noob who doesnt know whats going on. And I went for months. If youre just starting out and youre not quite sure of what youre doing but you want to join a party and play a game and make new friends, this is a good place.

Called in to ask about spells and how they work. An employee named Ben answered and gave me & my fellow dungeoneer a very good explanation about it. We were trying not to take too much of his time of course but he seemed very understanding and patient. This place rocks because of knowledgeable and patient guys like him! Helped out our gameplay for sure.

They are very happy to order things that they dont have, and are excellent at finding rare and out-of-print items. Also features lots of free tables for gaming.

I dont know about the employees because the old lady that was there didnt seem to know a dam thing but the people that were there playing games were very nice, courteous and helpful

Extremely disappointed in this store. I visited with high hopes but instant felt them lowering from the moment I entered the door. The overall ascetics were terrible. It felt like a dirty K-mart store from the early 90s. The employee said hi and bye but never offered help, even when I went up to the counter. The only thing keeping me from rating it lower are the wide selection of games and large, well-lit gaming area.

Active Imagination (AI), is the local game store that has been there for years. Hubby, our kids and I are often there weekly! We are playing D&D, Magic the Gathering (MtG), board games and more! We know where our kids are on Thurs, & Friday nights. In the day and age that the safety of kids is often in question, having a safe place to hang out is essential! We know our teens will be partially supervised by staff & the gamers (including uncle & his friends) there. We have received a call once in many years that our kids were being sent home for the night. [I admit my kids are very well behaved.] We dont live far so my kids have the freedom to walk over there without adults.On Thursday evening the DnD & games being played are at a reasonable volume. The place can be very loud on Friday night as there are many who play MtG. The games go in tournaments so the volume varies. If you want to join in the Fun, be there before 7p.m. most evenings.AI has some board/not-so-board games on a shelf if you want to try something out. Just let the employee know. They also will special order games if they can find it from their suppliers. *Buy Local, Support the small businesses!!*We often catch a bite to eat & drink from the frozen food, Ice Cream, Candy Bars, and Drinks for a reasonable price. Really nice store, been going there since I was a kid. Little pricy compared to online, but also one of the only places to hold tournaments, so it goes to support a great local business.

Great place to go and play any type of game that you own, free of charge, or you can rent games from the front desk. I am not a Magic player, but they have tournaments and the like for this game and others.

First of all all three times ive been here the people were/are fantasticThe store is clean and nice.Employees are willing to help you fine what you are looking for.The only tinu thing I didnt really care for is the organization of the games which makes absolutly no sense and I saw the same board game shelved it 2 very diffrent spots.
