Worst u-haul place I ever rented from lack of maintenance to their trucks and if you rent a truck from them with a engine light on or stuck in towing mode becareful because my 1500 mile Trip was a living nightmare Ive been renting u-haul trucks for many years now and never had a issue with getting my right truck or being put in a bad Truck it seems like this location only cared about taking my money which this trip was really bad praying I would make it back from nj so Im advising anyone who Rents from this facility check out the truck before you pay for anything and I read about a nother complaint about them using their cell phone to take a picture of your drivers license yeah that happened to me too

We have probably rented 25 times in the past year for our business. Very disappointed that we got charged $60 for gas because we did not refill to 1/4 tank. Why did they give us a truck with a less than full tank to begin with. Anyway we skipped putting the gas in to get back early because they had another rental behind us. We should have taken advantage of the 30 minute grace period And put the $15 worth of gas in the truck. Oh well, time to find a new establishment for our needs. I was hoping the manager would acknowledge us as valuable customers and waived the $30 admin fee for gas but it appears customer loyalty has no benefits.

I have rented pick up trucks, box trucks, and storage units from this location and have always had great customer service. Elijah is hands down the best thing to ever happen to this place. He is the only reason we keep using this location/company.

Really wanted this to work, some this is my neighborhood shop. Sales floor is well laid out and employees fitted with PPE. Actual service a real problem. Skip the grief and go to N Charleston.Asked about U-box shipments for Vancouver WA. Told that Uhaul doesn’t deliver to one of the largest cities in Washington. Okay, Portland? Nope. Won’t deliver to Oregon’s largest city either. Not her fault, she explains. It’s what the computer says.Frustrated by this salesperson’s inability to formulate solutions, I went to the North Charleston location. Yes, they said. Definitely can deliver, because Uhaul delivers EVERYWHERE. N Chas handled my move marvelously. Maybe King St needs new computers?

Happy moving day to me! Showed up this morning to pick up our truck that we rented over a month ago (and after a confirmation call yesterday) to find out they don’t have the truck we rented. Not only do they not have one, there are none they can even get for us. Considering we have to move today, we took what they had and then they were not even going to offer any type of discount. Lastly, in the process of all this we were asked to “not talk to the whole store” about the screw up. Don’t worry, I will just talk to google then. Again, happy moving day!
I ordered a trailer hitch and after trying to go in 3 times over the course of a week they still hadn’t gotten hitch in as planned. I would recommend never trying to coordinate logistics with the location. It is aweful! They never gave me any reasoning a multiple times stated it would be in the following day.
Moving is stressful, and we had been in 5 different states in 2 days getting all our belongings so it was refreshing when we were given much help and attention with returning our uhaul. TJ guided us through the process and helped us get to our new storage unit. He was very helpful, friendly personable and really made the experience as seamless as possible. Thanks TJ !
If I could give a 0-star rating, I would.Not only did we have to wait in a very long line, due to the 2 employees slow pace and leaving the office several times to do other things, but we had to deal with their very unpleasant attitude.My husband and I had placed an order for a rental van over the phone, prior to going into the store. The female employee did not ask for any information about that order we placed on the phone. As such, she was asking for information we already provided over the phone. Then, she took a picture of my husbands drivers license with her personal cell phone, which is very concerning.The price of the van went from $19.95 for the day to $86-something to be charged to my credit card, because there was no explanation whatsoever about the fees, even when I asked about the details of the cost. (Once the ordeal was over, I was able to read the final receipt and make sense of the charges.) The employees should be able to easily explain all of the charges, whether asked or not.Then, we were told there was a 1/4 tank of gas in the van. The gas gauge was on empty. Thankfully, we had enough to get to a gas station.Honestly, the cost of renting a U-Haul van in town for the day shouldnt cost $72. That seems ridiculously high, especially when everyone sees the signs that read $19.95 for the day (not the fine print about the mileage fees). Additionally, no one should have to deal with the rude, uncaring, and unhelpful employees like the ones we had to deal with in Charleston. Finally, no U-Haul employee should be taking pictures of customers drivers licenses on their personal phone.Ive already sent a complaint to the U-Haul Corporate Headquarters about the actions of these 2 employees, so hopefully their customer service skills improve or they hire more professional people to run the place.Skip this U-Haul dealer. Just find another one outside of downtown.
Unbelievably helpful and kind service from Latonya and Mikel. I came in without a reservation on a busy morning and was in and out within 30 minutes. Both of these employees were incredibly kind and personable and left me leaving with a trailer and a smile. Thanks for your help!
Akylee W. helped us with our return and it was so hassle free. He made us feel welcome in a new city and would highly recommend him to deal with customers. It was a breath of fresh air. If I need a U-Haul again, I’m coming back to King St.

Beyond appreciate of Mikel that went over and beyond to help us close our usual door after we failed to follow instructions. He did not have to drive out, but did so without hesitation. Graciously wouldn’t event accept a tip. We need more people like Mikel.
Ive rented twice here in the last 12 months and both times been super impressed with the customer service and quality van/trailer. Staff are hustling, prices really are solid, and the location is great for downtown residents. The only drawback is if theres a long line, but.. that happens.
The only good thing about this branch is its location. If you’re unlucky enough to run into Carol, your time will not be pleasurable. She is extremely rude, she mumbles when she speaks to her customers and when you try to correct her, she is unwilling to apologize. Her badge says she is the owner and she is obviously too cheap to hire more help during peak times and we had to wait behind 4 people at 7:30am to pick up our truck. TAKE YOUR BUSINESS SOMEWHERE THAT WILL APPRECIATE YOU.
They have helped me and my facility with rentals during Hurricane Matthew, Hurricane Florence and Hurricane Dorian. I’ve always had good experiences with them. They stay open during bad weather when other rental places close down. I highly recommend them and will use them again.
Absolutely unacceptable. Staff is not helpful at all. Guy who was working on my contract just got up and left helping other customer without saying anything. Been here for over 30 minutes and that’s with completed online reservation. Do not go to this location.
Let me just say, I have had a bad experience two years ago with this location. But this time was totally different. We got Ashley Ireland as our help. She was fantastic! She well beyond what anyone should expect to make sure we were cared for. Absolutely incredible service. Thank you Ashley...you deserve to be manager of this location. And I might add, they are EXTREMELY busy. But this day, everyone I saw leave, did so satisfied!
This is a great U-Haul location! I have been coming here for a few years now. Always pleased with the customer service and equipment. Carol does a great job managing the store and always hires exceptional employees. Also want to point out that Ashley is a great store manager when Carol is not available. I will always come back to this store while still in Charleston, SC!
I have never had a worse level of customer service in my life starting with the manager, Carol, and on down to her employee manning the counter. I dont even want to go into it because I was lucky enough to keep my cool while in the building. Ill put it simply, they made me wait around for an hour enduring staff mistreatment and attitudes, didnt honor a reservation we had paid for, then yelled at me for making it and assuming it would be there. I cant believe it myself.

The gentleman at the front desk (PJ)... Not only opened up slightly early to get us rolling on our early morning move... But also drove to our home to help us close the truck door when the lever got stuck. Appreciate the amazing speedy service. Give the man a raise!!!

Horrible service will be sure to spread the message not to use this U-Haul to all of my Cofc, army, and Citadel friends. The manager has a horrible attitude and wasn’t too nice to my 75 year old grandmother. Another employee said they wouldn’t charge her for full month since her closing date was pushed back one day. The manager said that not only are they charging her a full month but would’ve charge her an extra $15 dollars for another day. Almost $150 or one day of storage. For 1 day, that is a rip-off. My wife works for a company that uses moving companies all the time will be sure to make sure her company doesn’t use this U-Haul since you all do not know how to treat seniors or people.

I recently returned my rental truck and am sad to say how poor the experience was. I understand life is hard, and we all have bad days; no excuse for the dismissive nature. I pulled the truck into a parking spot on the property, and was told to move It again to a different location on the property.not asked,told. I know people make mistakes but Im a customer not your employee. Kindness, and courtesy are rare but they make a world of difference, and keep customers. Suffice to say, I will not be a customer at king street Uhaul in Charleston.
I will gladly take the time to rate this place, its something I never do but the service was just that horrible. I dont expect them to be the friendliest workers but they were just mean and rude! I will carry my stuff by hand next time before I go here again.
The manager attitude sucks. Don’t bother. Plenty of other moving companies in Charleston/Mt.pleasant that can be use. Whole building needs customer service training.
Every time Ive been here they have been accommodating with any changes Ive needed (even last minute ones for a different trailer) and are extremely friendly. The office itself is always clean and well lit.
Called at 10am to rent an appliance dolly. UHaul took my credit card info and emailed me a confirmed reservation. When I showed up 45 minutes later I was told there were none and I shouldnt have been able to rent one. They gave me a bunch of excuses as to why the dolly was unavailable yet none were my problem. I wasted 45 minutes driving over after calling ahead and was lied to and no one cared. Completely unprofessional location.
Say in the lobby for 15 minutes while this lady just carried on her personal conversation while making eye contact with me and laughing on the phone. Don’t come here unless you need to. And of course the general manager’s last name is Dingus. How fitting.
If I could give them no stars I would. Worst customer service ever!!! They will blatantly lie to you on the phone and the people inside have terrible attitudes. The lady working inside almost got into a fight with my roommate because she thought he threw ice on her car, which he didnt!! How would he know it was her car anyway? No one came out to stop her. All four of us there had to tell her to go back inside. These people have absolutely no respect for anyone. I will never use this company again.

Quick and easy dropoff. Everyone was customer oriented. Location is downtown,, though, so keep that in mind if you have a big trailer.

DO NOT GO TO THIS BRANCH!!!!The employees and management are useless. They dont follow up, they do not get back to you, they do not care and they make promisses and claims that they can not keep.I had a scheduled hitch installation (so I could pull one of their trailers with the last of my boxes from my house) and found out (the day of installation) that the electric part had not been shipped out from their Phoenix HQ. They did the main hitch hardware installation and said that they could do the remaining electric installation the next day. Overnighting the missing part.So I had my scheduled installation on Friday, and now its Wednesday. They still have not completed the hitch installation. They keept promising that the part would come in the next day, the nexy day, the next day. Its now been 5 days!The part never came. They promissed to call me back the following day, to update me on the final part of the installation, but no one ever called, no one followed up and keept me informed that the part had NOT arrived, so I had to go there myself to the customer service counter to try to get them to track the part for me, to see if it was shipped, when it was shipped and when it was going to arrive. I ask them for tracking number and what company they shipped with so I could track it myself to see that it would arrive. They could NOT provide me with that, but they guaranteed that it would come in tomorrow every day. Also I could not get through on the phones to the local branch most days either so I had to drive down there, to be able to speak with them. 3 days in a row I drove down to TRY to get some answers from these incompetent people. I finally today (Wednesday) after have driven down there AGAIN (they were supposed to CALL me back) found out that the part had NOT arrived, so I just walked out of the store.Useless!!!!I will have go to a local smaller business to complete the installation. I contacted Corbins in Charleston and they have ordered the part overnight already and they have scheduled me for an appointment tomorrow to finish the job that Uhaul can not do/will not do/are to incompetent to do.I dealth with over 5 different people at this branch and although not every single one was rude, some were unhelpful and some were just uninterested and didnt care about their job... despite that they said they would follow up and call me back, keep me informed of the missing part. They never did any of it.This Uhaul branch is useless and the manager needs to be fired. Immediatel! The employees need to be educatedor change jobs. This branch is a disaster and the incompetency and lack of customer care is stunning.So basically I have a pile of boxes left from my move, that I need to move to my new house, with a trailer. I moved out 3 days ago and I put my trust in that Uhaul could help me. They could not! I had to move my boxes to a temporary storage location and sit and wait for these clowns to fail at their job before moving on and choosing another company to take care of my moving needs.Do not count on this branch!You can not rely on these people working here.They will screw up your plans and you will regrett that you did business with them.
The only good thing about U-Haul in Brooklyn was our driver Lidia who delivered our U-boxes. She was friendly and as helpful as she could be.Otherwise, we had an extremely poor experience with U-Haul.First of all, the site recommended just one Ubox for a studio apartment. Our studio was only 515sqft, and the only pieces of furniture we were bringing were a mattress & boxspring, a small desk, and a small dresser. I.e. if ANY studio would fit in one Ubox, it should be ours - we left our bookcase, two larger dressers, futon, tv stand, bar table & stools, and larger desk at the apartment. This was absolutely not the case, as even the minimal items that we did pack and bring ended up requiring two Uboxes, and since we werent prepared it extended our moving process an extra day requiring us to miss work unexpectedly. Your recommendations for number of Uboxes should DEFINITELY be updated, or you should consider making the boxes a bit larger.Secondly, I could not find an area on the website to add rental of a dolly to our reservation, so I called the location to add the dolly. I called a few days before to reserve, then the day before our Ubox to confirm. Alas, on the day of moving there was no dolly delivered, but my card was still charged for it.Third issue was price for shipping - when we added a second Ubox, we were told it would increase our shipping cost from $1500 to $1900...but when we reserved the Ubox our shipping was quoted at $1000. We were able to work out this glitch, but it is a concern that your system would make this large error.Fourth issue was delayed shipping of our Uboxes. They were both at the origin location on 3/16, and should have been ready to ship on the originally quoted date of 3/18. But then I got an email that the shipping date was changed to 3/20, and then it was changed again to 3/22. Instead of receiving our items in time to move into our house on 3/27 when we closed, we ended up receiving them on 3/31. I did file a complaint and was told I will receive a refund of $50/day that they were late, but it was a huge inconvenience and we had to buy a pullout couch to sleep on during those days. Also, it was IMPOSSIBLE to find someone to talk to in order to try to get the Uboxes shipped. I would call the Brooklyn location, which would then route me to corporate, which would then route me to scheduling, which would then route me to the location in a neverending cycle - U-haul needs to work out a process for managing these issues instead of having everyone pass the buck to the next person. I also sent multiple messages via the website and never received a response.Fifth issue was picking up of our Uboxes. The line for pickup at the King St location in Charleston was horrendous, we ended up waiting an hour just to speak with someone. Then there should have been a $5 charge for self-delivery, but I was mysteriously charged $10.90 for an unclear reason. The employee at the counter said it was for the self-delivery, but when I told them it was supposed to be $5 they just shrugged and said it must have changed. When I came to get my second Ubox, I was then also charged $5.45 for the self-delivery. I still need to be refunded for one of those charges.So overall, this was a really terrible experience and until U-haul makes some huge changes to their operations, I will not be using them or recommending their services.

DO NOT USE UHAUL! We used them a month ago and filled our tank with gas and they STILL charged us 45 dollars for gas! I disputed with my bank and they ended up winning so not only did we pay for the truck and the tank that we filled we also got charge for a fine of not filling the gas. You can NOT reach the King Street Location after rental and there is not one person who will take your call in customer service. I will NEVER use a uhaul again but rather any other moving company.
First I had an amazing delivery in Pittsburgh where I started. But after that it all went down hill. I called customer service to setup delivery and was on and off the phone for over an hour because you couldn’t locate my order. During this time I was hug up on by multiple agents and when I called to ask for a manager it took almost 30 mins to connect me to someone who could care less about the crappy service I had experienced. She directed me to call the location which was what I originally tried to do and was connected to them. I spoke with the location and setup a Saturday delivery, well verbally cuz apparently they couldn’t until after you took the payment for my delivery. When my payment had not came out of my account like it was supposed to I called to find out why and then was hung up on after 20 mins so I called back in and it took 45 mins just to process my payment where I was told it was my banks fault but my bank had nothing to do with it. I had already checked with them first prior to calling. Once my payment was taken I was setup for Saturday delivery. Then I get a call from the delivery person saying that I can’t get delivered tomorrow until Tuesday due to there equipment failure but I can pay more money and do it myself. After speaking with a manager I was then assured I would be delivered on Saturday. I get a call Saturday from the location manager stating I won’t get delivery and telling me they will deliver for free on Tuesday. Not acceptable since I have to extend my hotel stay and also cancel movers and reschedule all on my dime. On Tuesday when my boxes finally get delivered they ended up not even using said equipment and trailered them to my house which they could have done on Saturday like promised and finally when I inspect the boxes they have been damaged and so have some of my items in side. So now I have filed 3 complaints with U-Haul cares and still am waiting for compensation for this whole mess. Would I recommend your company? Negative! Will I ever do business with you again? Negative! But what I will do let everyone know of the experience I received from your customer service team and your location in Charleston, SC, so they may think twice about using your horrible u-box service and just going with a pod.
What an unbelievably terrible experience. Its like these folks do not understand the concept of a reservation. I reserved a truck 3 days ago for a weekend move. Have an order number and confirmation email from them, and spoke with someone on the phone to confirm again. I get a call several minutes ago to tell me that the truck I reserved is not available... not only that, but there are in fact zero trucks available until 11 HOURS after my reserved time. When I called the support line to try to rectify the situation I was met with rudeness and contempt.Just a small bit of advice, if you dont have a truck, DONT LET ME RESERVE IT. Thats the entire point of a reservation. Its like a scene directly out of Seinfeld, only far less funny and far more infuriating.
Lady convinced me to get 10 boxes instead of the 4 I wanted and said I could return them later. Never gave me a receipt and when I come back to return the boxes I didn’t use, said I needed a receipt and didn’t believe the other lady didn’t give me one.
Good service and they have a nice big lot that is easy to handle with a trailer.

I love the Google picture of Carol Dingus on the phone, she is whats wrong with this place. Ive been to this location at least a dozen times and have spent well over $1000 in boxes. Ms. Dingus, however, always acts like its the first time shes met me with her usual unpleasant attitude and discontent in doing her job. Ive been the only customer in the store numerous times with multiple Uhaul employees behind the counter, and still waited 10-15mins before even being acknowledged. Forthe most part, the males who work there are accommodating and helpful. Im just a bit befuddled that whom ever owns this location doesnt acknowledge this blatant incompetence.

Horrible!! Got quoted for a hitch installation over the phone and showed up here and basically gave me another price which was over twice the amount I was quoted for. Called customer service and now it goes even higher than what the location was giving me. Did the right thing and just canceled the whole thing!!! If I could give no stars I would!! Please go and try another location if you can.
This place is either out to steal from customers or too incompetent to perform simple math. I was charged twice my quoted rate and told I drove 288 miles even though I used less than 5 gallons of gas. It was my fault I neglected to make note of the odometer because of the huge fiasco created by the staff double parking in my truck and losing the key to the double parked vehicle. This resulted in them driving over a curb to get it out. This is my second time renting here and the staff has always been rude and difficult and slow. Finally my truck smelled of cigarettes and was filthy. Avoid at all costs these thieves.
They turn the bell off for propane severvice when its cold outside, they will have you sit in the lot indefinitely. Not a good business practice

Normally dont review except for exceptional or exceptionally bad experiences. However, the reviews here are very bad, and I was worried about using it, but they were professional and did exactly what I agreed on and expected.
Showed up to get the truck I had reserved weeks earlier to find out that the computers were down. Because of limited parking in the area, I had office furniture waiting on the street while I went 10 blocks to get the truck. I was told I would have to come back later, no apology and was actually treated like an annoyance to the morons (one who was the assistant manager). After 90 minutes they finally caved in and gave me the truck. When I returned the truck, the manager (Carol Dingus) was there with a rude unkempt employee who did everything in the world to hold me up, once I stated I was in a hurry to pick my wife up from work some 30 miles away. At this point, Dingus took over and proceeded to stare at the computer for over 10 minutes. When I told her that this was the worst service I received from Uhaul, she just laughed. NEVER use this location for anything !
