This shop needs to change their name to NahtZee Natural Foods... Very unfriendly staff and they treat you as though they are doing you a favor by letting you shop there. The prices are shamefully high (unless you happen to have your 15% discount coupon.) Add to that the fact that the Mask Mandate is so yesterday but the NahtZee Staff will not serve you without a mask.. Of all places, this shop should be celebrating good health and strengthening the immune system. So sad to see this unconscious behaviour. Predicting the eventual demise of this poorly run establishment.

I love this grocery store, but I am giving only three stars because the customer service from Chris the check out clerk Is way below par. I regularly come to the grocery store about once a week and every time he has checked me out I’ve been disappointed with the level of customer service from him. Today I said “hello” as I put my items on the belt and I got no response from him. I would check this up to maybe he didn’t hear me but i’ve gotten this response before. He doesn’t seem to make any effort to make eye contact or engage with a customer in anyway. As a customer it makes me feel like I am imposing on him by ringing up my groceries. I don’t want him fired I just would like to pass this feedback to him that as the point person in the store he has a big impact on my experience as a customer. Again I love this grocery store and the service it provides our community.

Amazing selection of bulk goods, including peanut butter & honey. The produce is always fresh and there is a large selection of cheeses (including non-dairy) as well as all kinds of other staples. The staff is knowledge about the products and have always been willing to help make a selection or find something.

I always go to IY first, especially for produce, bulk foods and reasonably eco-friendly cleaning supplies, and then go to the supermarket to get everything else on the list. The staff is mostly great most of the time, but as others have noted, they occasionally hire a real jerk to work the register. Five stars for the inventory, four for the staff, and zero for the new hire.

Would be really nice if the customer service (especially the register) was more friendly. I always feel like they just want me gone as fast as possible through the line, and barely even get a hello.

I just found this place in town and I’m very happy about it. I used to only go to Rebeccas, but I’ve always felt that Rebeccas was more of a supplement store than a natural foods store. Anyway, it reminded me a lot of the natural foods stores I would go to in California when I was young. Lots of local foods which is always good, and my boyfriend and I were able to find spices which we previously couldn’t find before. Overall, a neat place. I will probably go there for my produce from now on.

I stopped patronizing IY a few years ago after consistently terrible customer service and returned to find the same. An employee with a hawkish affect passively aggressively asked me if I needed anything twice as she followed me around checking displays for missing items after I looked at them. Customer service embodies the haughtiness, snoodery, and self-righteousness that are the worst qualities of Charlottesville.Aside from customer service issues, the selection of IY is awesome and theres no comparable grocery in Charlottesville. With better staff, I would come here regularly.

More variety of organic produce in a small space than the large box grocery stores carry.

This is my favorite health food store in Charlottesville. They have an excellent produce department with lots of local fruits and veggies. All of their produce is GMO free! They also have great sales each month and a juice and smoothie bar that other stores do not offer. Its nice to support local stores instead of the big box chain stores. I shop there every week!
