Amazing selection of new and old books and really interesting and beautiful prints! Gizmo was a pleasant addition to the shopping experience. Really enjoyed the math and physics section along with the architecture books. Great prices too!

Lovely shop with great books. But despite having a face covering on, I was scolded that it was not sufficien, even though it covered adequately. I then felt monitored, and scolded again when the new mask I wore slipped off my nose. It spoiled the experience a considerably, I wont rush to return.

This is an absolutely amazing place. The owners/staff are extremely friendly and helpful and they have an spectacular selection of old maps and used and rare books. I stop here every time Im passing through Charlottesville!

This bookshop has long been one of my favorite places to spend a few hours, especially on a chilly winter night. The books are impeccably presented, and all of them are reasonably priced at half the original publishers price. Most of the books are protected in Mylar covers, which is great for keeping the dust jacket intact. Theyre open until 10:00 pm on Friday and Saturday, ideal for all of you confirmed night owls!

I stopped by the Blue Whale whole bidding l visiting Charlottesville and was blown away with the wonderful selection and was equally impressed with the staff who helped me find a very specific genre in was interested in. I highly recommend this store to anyone who loves rare books!

Good selection of books in this small store in downtown Charlottesville. I found 2 books on the Arctic, including a rare edition from 1936. The selection of prints are very cool as well, great for decorating your home or office. The staff were very friendly. Great to see that they also made everyone wears masks inside and use hand sanitizer.

I have been buying books here for over 15 years and this is the finest used book store I have ever found. Scott and his staff are always polite, efficient and knowledgeable. Their selection constantly changes and never ceases to amaze me. Perhaps that is why I have bought over 200 books from them over the years, even though I live over 2 hours away. If you love books, you will love Blue Whale Books.

We stopped in here in June to browse around for dinner. It is located in the downtown mall area of Charlottesville. We parked in a parking garage and walked over (not a far walk). I loved their selection of books especially the rare ones since they are hard to find. They sell maps and prints as well. Blue Whale will buy books, maps, and prints from you too so that is nice. Stop by and browse their selection!

I came upon this bookstore by accident and had a wonderful time browsing. Very good selection. I ended up buying a murder mystery—a perfect companion on a road trip. How nice to hold a book rather than a Kindle!

High-quality used bookstore on the Downtown Mall. Collectors items. Carefully curated selection of classics. Good film & arts section where youll often find out-of-print items. Dont waste your time haggling with the shop help; the price marked is the price youre gonna pay if you want the book. Still, the books are in excellent condition and are typically about a third-less than full retail.

Blue Whale Books was excellent. They are well organized and have quite an inventory. I found three books for my collection.

Stopped in while touring east coast colleges with my son. Walked out with a first edition of Fiddlers by Ed McBain and a Spenser for Hire paperback by Robert B. Parker that I was missing from my collection. Had a great debate with the nice lady at the counter over Shakespeare and Proust that my son greatly enjoyed! :) GREAT place. Good vibes.

A really lovely store with a well-manicured collection of lightly used books, reasonable prices, and some very comfortable seating. The staff is very knowledgeable and kind. Its not a huge store, but you will likely find a treasure that you will want to take home. An overall great book store experience!

This is a great establishment! There are many books at very good prices and there are lots of interesting prints. It has a very calm, relaxing atmosphere and I have always been treated very cordially by the helpful staff. I go about once a month.

Horrible service and completely preposterous attitude from employee!! Was told that the owner of the store would not have given me half the time to even talk with me in regards to the 18th century books that i had brought in. Yes the books were not in excellent condition but he made me, my sister and my young daughter feel as if we were fools. The man at Rarebookbuyer is who we have spoke with and will send all our business !!
