WiFi is spot on, great place to lounge, work and converse. The outdoor patio is the place to soak in the sun and get your caffeine fix. Did I mention the staff is outrageously awesome!!!???

Coffee is good but you can easily be waiting 20-30 minutes for a carry-out order. A bit intense if you ask me.

The service was superb! I really felt the warm welcome from the security guard through the whole crews. Amazing ambiance, amazing food, and amazing staff. The food also tastes good and well prepared. Not a crowded place, unlike others. Must visit and recommended. I will surely come back here soon. Keep up the good work always.

The place is unique and fun to look at when you are inside and in the back! The coffee however was not that great. Flavors were not that good and the baked goods behind the baker window looked in rough shape. 😬

Always love at the Star Lounge! There are a plethora of coffee roasters and coffee shops in Chicago, but Dark Matter Coffee is by far my favorite. They have a few locations, all unique in their own special quirky way, but Star Lounge is my favorite. Always the best vibe going on in there! Great music, super awesome staff and plenty of seating, including great outdoor patio out back. My 8 and 11 year old often tag along with me and I never get evil eye-rolls from staff or patrons! They are my go-to, year round and they also have the best hours of operation!

Went here for a meeting. Nice atmosphere and friendly helpful staff. I was that person that asked for a recommendation and they were happy to help. They recommended the mocha and gingersnap iced coffee for its sweet and savory taste. It didnt disappoint.

Going to Dark Matter Star Lounge and the Mothership (around the corner on Western Ave., where they roast and package coffee) was like coming to honor a highly respected gateway to heaven - if chasing coffee is like an adventure to you, and it is to me.

The vibes and energy of the place is warming and welcoming, personally I enjoy the artsy feel.I get a Fear the Loathing, vibe from some of the art work. The coffee here is great and the patio is fantastic, especially on a sunny Sunday! :-)Two things I want to complain about: with the online orders it took 15 minutes to get 2 lattes; and the menu is not visible until you arrive at the cashier (and it is very very small): especially in Covid-19 times I strongly recommend moving it in some other area and make it bigger

This place is pretty cool. The decor is really nice, hipster type place, the coffee is good and the donut we had was amazing (glazed with chocolate glaze), one of the best donuts Ive ever had. There is inside and outside seating and it is dog friendly. The only downside, and this is a reoccurring comment from my trip to Chicago, the service was a little slow for me but I work in NYC so Im used to things moving at a faster pace.

One of my all time favorite spots to do work and relax. The venue has indoor and outdoor seating (highly recommend the outdoor seating as theres a lot of color and beautiful art). The drinks are solid bc its dark matter. The prices are a bit steep if you get a latte, but they taste great overall. Pre pandemic they used to have refillable coffee which I took full advantage of one day, so I hope it comes back in the future. There is a good amount of street parking here (and some of which is free if you luck out). Another fun fact is that its right around the corner from the mothership (IE their main shop for roasting beans) so if you like what youre drinking, walk over and grab one of the exquisite roasts there.EDIT: they are doing refillable coffee now!

Coffee is mostly dark roasted, and their special cinnamon coffee is great! The environment is very comfortable, except that the first floor bathroom is kinda smelly due to a too small fan.

A hidden gem that was a fun experience! Pick up coffee and get some fresh air walking over to their lounge that felt very roomy and cozy. Employees were super nice and welcoming! They offer a good variety of coffee, pastries and merchandise (Pistachio donut 5/5) Overall a great destination for a mini adventure in the heart of Chicago.

Delicious donut and tea - they even kindly offered to add ice to my 5yos tea so it wouldnt be too hot for her.

Perfect place to hang out with friends or alone to do some work. Plenty of space and seating inside and outside. Baristas are friendly and know what theyre doing. Clean overall, but bathrooms could be cleaner. Dark Matter coffee is my fave so of course its going to be good.

Long wait for average coffee. Just go to Dunkin down the street, theyre more welcoming there.

This is Dark Matters full-service coffee bar. I love Dark Matter!!

Not only was the coffee as good as you know its going to be, but the atmosphere is exactly what you want a coffee bar to feel like. There was a patio to enjoy the beautiful weather, ample space as the bar, and tables for people to spread out or gather around and enjoy the many tasty options. It was my first time there, and the staff were helpful in guiding me through their expansive menu. They had plenty of merch and whole beans for sale, and they roast their beans right around the corner @ The Mothership. My only regret is not trying one of their nitro cold brews!

Did you know that if you buy coffee beans you get a free cup of coffee? That took me by surprise! The cafe is surprising for first time goers with its retro vibe and decor. The baristas know their craft and how to serve a customer with friendliness.

Shout out to the guy with pink hair that made my latte today (my roommate brought it home for me) that was half bourbon espresso half wake n’ bake cause it’s pretty fantastic thank you thank you!!Also just overall Star Lounge never disappoints and I can’t wait to be back reading and studying and hanging out there!

This place has a really cool vibe and I love the alternative nature of the place. Sadly, food options are very thin and the coffee I ordered wasnt the greatest, however I still recommend checking it out.

Great service in here all the time. I didnt enjoy the coffee or latte that much. But the drinks mainly the greyhound is awesome. The fresh grapefruit juice makes the difference and Ive asked other places but they dont have fresh squeezed juice. Great atmosphere with a laid back vibe. The coffee is good, the specialty drinks are great and the people (and people-watching) are second to none.Also, the patio is wonderful.

Dark Matter Coffee shops will always be my favorite, especially the Star Lounge location. I take any visitors from out of town here so they can experience the amazing crafted beverages (not to mention the great drip brew). The staff is super friendly and accommodating, and the pastries are awesome (including great vegan options). The outside seating area is nice and sunny most days, and the atmosphere isnt too loud.

I love star lounge so much! My girlfriend and I became girlfriends (officially) here, and have enjoyed many dates here since! The patio in back is spacious and lovely in summer, there’s always seating, and the baristas and always kind. 10/10. I’ll always be a star lounge fan.

First timer to Star Lounge Coffee Bar (Dark Matter Coffee) and the options all sound good, one of the workers helped me out a ton. He explained multiple drinks for me and asked what type of coffee/tea I liked, etc. even after he made the coffee, he made sure I was happy before moving on to other customers, went super out of the way overall.Yummy coffee, off the charts service, and beautifully decorated spot. I got the coffee rosé.

Consistently fantastic

Best chai tea latte I have ever had. Its spicy and creamy and the perfect temperature. Highly recommend. Also, the vegan chocolate muffin (no Im not vegan) is exquisite. Great atmosphere, but the staff are slightly unapproachable. Still coming back.

My favorite coffee in Chicago. Theyre always experimenting with new blends and the staff is incredibly friendly. I would recommend any of the drinks - they cater to people who love a nice sweet and delicious drink, but also those who love to add a little spice. Great for weekend hangouts to just chat over a cup of coffee. Back area is great in the summer. Coffee aside, they have great pastrami sandwiches.

I love this coffee shop because despite how trendy it is, and has been. The workers are never pretentious. I just wish they could keep the bathrooms cleaner. The coffee and food are all excellent. They roast their own coffee with care, and the proof is in the cup.

The best aspect of this space is the outdoor area in the back, which features some vibrantly colored artwork. Indoors however, one of the staff members was talking at a volume that was more appropriate for one of the guys selling $9 beers at a Cubs game. The iced coffee was too acidic and disappointing, as Ive always had good experiences with Dark Matter coffee. Baked goods could be better too.

This has been my Mayan mocha spot for years. Coffee and service is on point. The only thing that has changed is the music, on the last 4 occasions, all at different times, there was zero hip hop played which makes me sad. All in all a great coffee spot.

More than blow-your-mind, locally roasted coffee made by true artisans who maintain first name relationships with their farmers all over the world, Dark Matter is a cultural hub for the neighborhood. People here truly care about and each other.They also have SUPER cool art exhibits up on a monthly rotation. Its provided my house with more than a few fantastic pieces.Oh, and did I mention the coffee is amazing? Take it from a life long coffee addict- this is the best Ive seen yet. Especially their Unicorn Blood espresso. Just. Yum. So good.

Possibly my favorite coffee shop. Housed in a former bar (and still using the bar), Star Lounge has some of the best coffee in town without the snobbery. The staff is happy to walk you through their beans, roasting process, and different brewing options without talking down to customers. The selection of pastries and snacks can be limited depending on day and time, and there is really limited seating for more than two people. (They do have overflow seating upstairs.)
