Not gonna lie thought this boba place was gonna just be passable but it was quite a pleasant surprise! Be aware though that the boba place is actually on the Northeast corner of College Dr and Main Ave opposite Michels corner crepes. They have a good menu plus their black pearl boba is on POINT. Really chewy and fresh. Definitely give this place a shot if youre wanting some boba tea 🧋
Staff is very nice. The inside is spacious yet cozy. Their Boba tea is absolutely amazing. Havent tried too much of the food, but what I did try I enjoyed.
This cafe is in an old school building that retained all the charm of the original building. The floor in part of the building has the original basketball court floor. The bathrooms have vintage toilet signs. And theres cool art everywhere. Hard to explain but its really charming and unique. Also, I got gluten free cupcakes with cactus/succulent frosting. They were beautiful and surprisingly moist and tasty. Ive had my share of disappointing gf baked goods and these were not that.
Peaceful, clean, open and welcoming. A perfect place for study or just a little meditation and some boba tea.
Unfortunately, they had just sold the last smile upon the arrival of my one self, which is to say that my vocalized sets of apparent disdain over current events... Well, they were listening, ya know.
Fun place with great coffee and tasty baked goods and a great staff!
Cute shop with a nice atmosphere, options for people who are vegan or have allergies, and really friendly staff. Overall just a really nice atmosphere! Also the best boba Ive had 👍
Excellent beverages, friendly service, and very cool atmosphere. I highly recommend this place.
Now under new ownership, the food has changed for the worse and the customer service has been rude and dismissive on several occasions. I used to be a regular patron. Ive taken my business to one of Durangos many other fine coffee shops, with great and friendly service and fantastic food.
Always friendly staff, great location
The Smiley Cafe is a very chill spot with excellent baked goods and a variety of drinks. I can personally attest to their ginger and fig scones as well as their London fog, both of which were fabulous! Great hospitality and you’re sure to leave with a smile on your face;)
Smiley Cafe is a unique experience. They also offer African food as well as many unique drinks. Theyre located inside the smiley building which is an old school and its really cool rented out office spaces now.
I am new to Durango and just found this place because of an appointment in the building. Wonderful place. On just my third visit the woman that appears to run the cafe or at least work most morning shifts had my order down, as I walked up she asked me if I wanted my hot chocolate. She has a great energy about her and is super friendly with all the customers. The food is simply outstanding. I have had the Chicken Tikka on back to back days. I love spicy food - I eat serranos and even ghost peppers off the vine - thus, most over the counter food tends to be a bit bland for me. Now this was not hot like I would make it, but it was wildly flavorful and, I believe the average person would say it had a nice kick.Comfortable seating, friendly atmosphere, great staff, great drinks, great food. By the way, the entire building runs on solar powerful, which is incredible, and there are two or four stations out front where one can charge their electric cars. This is the most Durango Building I have been in yet, and I love it.
Amazing Boba tea & the ladies working there have been so sweet every time we come in!! Ask for recommendations because they’ve got good ones!!
Thisvis a great little cafe located in an older Junior High School in Durango. Ample seating, wi-fi, and great customer service make for a unique experience. The pricing is reasonable, especially for Durango and the products are top shelf quality. Whether you are studying, meeting, or taking a break, this is your place.
The service and atmosphere was great. I had a fruit and nut bar, not sure what it was called, it was sweetened with agave. It was surprisingly delicious! The Boba is great.
Awesome cafe, cute school, great artwork!
The Smiley Cafe is a hidden gem in Durango. The coffee is great. I think they use 81301 coffee. The atmosphere is very relaxing and has a good vibe. There are several desks and couches available. They also have some small food options. Overall, I really enjoy coming here to get work done or catch up with friends and clients.
Best gluten free muffin Ive had in a long time. great mocha too. lots of comfortable seating.
The Smiley Cafe is one AWESOME place! The people there are super nice and very friendly! Whitney in particular has made sure to make every drink unique and fun and every interaction memorable! The food, from another local business named “Zawadi,” is excellently crafted and full of unique twists on classic dishes. The Tomato Bisque is our personal favorite!Smiley Cafe offers many unique coffees and is the only place in Durango to get boba teas in many different forms. They also have a wide selection of alternative milks, including Oat milk. All in all, The Smiley Cafe is well worth the experience!!-Kyle & Monty Colley
Not sure why this place has such a high rating. Their hot mocha latte did not taste good at all. Not sure if it was the coffee, the syrup they use, or both. We were waiting for quite a bit while people who ordered after us were getting their orders very quickly. The lady at the counter even forgot to bring our muffins when she set the drink out. To make things even worse, the blueberry muffin was bland, mushy and some of the blueberries tasted terrible. The coffee cake muffin was even worse. Couldnt even take more than two bites of it because it was flavorless, dry as heck, dense, and honestly just disgusting. It was like I had a mouthful of thick, powdery sand
The food here is just okay, especially for the price. The coffee was average. I wouldnt call their employees friendly but they werent unpleasant. They have a lot of gluten free options.
My experience at the smiley building is always great, unfortunately I did not attend the file a cafe, rather I visited is Deneen at her hair salon cryo you received great service and a lovely greeting
This place is wonderful! Great cafe, neat building, and excellent people!
Positives: EV charging. Nice building. One friendly person behind the counter. Negatives: One not so friendly person behind the counter. A patron on the couch by the front door give me a rude look when I sat down across from her. She was on the phone nonstop and seemed to think that the entire section of the place was her own private office.
I enjoy this locale. Comfortable and charming. I recommend it
This cafe is a wonderful place to come and hang out with little kids (toddler age and younger typically). Theres an upstairs work area that you can stay in while your kids play downstairs. It also offers the space for events in the evening, and the overall setup for that is great for groups of 2-10 people.
I dropped by this delightful little establishment this weekend and enjoyed a delicious Chai along with pumpkin curry soup and red dal (lentil). The food was matched by the general comfort of the surrounding. You have to look to find this cafe. It is INSIDE the old school building. And it is worth looking for it.As a little extra, there are EV charging stations just outside the door.
Excellent spot for grabbing an ice tea and piece of carrot cake or other favorite little treat in the good weather. I only tend to visit here in the good weather where I can sit, sip and take a break.
Good coffee, great chai and other drinks, awesome gluten free options and baled goods! The smiley building is such a lovely place and a good atmosphere. Great place to study.
So yummy and afforable prices for an in towm coffee shop. I love their iced latte, a definite stop in the morning or if you need an extra cup to get through the afternoon. They do close at 3 which is a bummer but understandable for a small local coffee shop. Highly recommend!!
Atmosphere, strong coffee, delicious treats, good prices. So far this is my favorite for atmosphere since the bean moved. The best part is parking on 3rd so you dont have to pay....hopefully 3rd doesnt go permit only. Also there is a piano.
Mocha was phenomenal, hot and iced (although large was kinda small being 1/2 ice) wifi was blazing, atmosphere was busy but there were quieter areas and outside. -2 stars for emotionally, mentally and spiritually vacant employees, must be a requirement or theyre all friends? I get that mumble rap and giving no 🦊 is all the rage, but even the slightest half smile will make customers feel more welcome and stay longer. Id come back only for the wifi, otherwise Ill stick to Raider Ridge Cafe, theyre real people and not millennial robots 🤖
Had a Golden Chai. Friendly people.
Best local cafe to grab a good bite and work remotely. Also fab for a great cup o Joe and a catch up session with a friend! Always buzzy but never overly busy. Delightful local spot...
No clue how this place gets any business! Not from here so my reliance was on reviews, food shown in photos was no where to be found. Prepared and wrapped much like Starbucks, which I detest. Coffee was NOT fresh, more like weak fast food sludge. I could go on!! Uggg if u frequent cafe’s and demand a quality experience, pass on this one for sure. Location is in a junior high school. Does have lots of space. Boring!!Now, I have to leave and go in search of a real cup of coffee and some food worthy of the $$$$
One of the few places in Durango that caters to the local coffee lover, delicious food eater and socializing worker! The Smiley Cafe has shown me that gluten free pastries can taste better than glutenous ones (not kidding, its crazy how good their scones are) and their soup + sandwich of the day is the best quick and healthy homemade lunch around. Thank you Smiley Cafe :) :) :)!
Peaceful and comfie.. Love it!!! Plus I can charge my electric car while I sip coffee and visit with friends.
The people are nice, but the espresso was terrible. My husband and I rate every coffee by the worst latte we ever had in California, and this one is equally bad. Seriously, dont stop here if the taste matters to you.
This place is awesome to hang out at, has good coffee, multiple vegan options, and a full blown piano. A community hub that all the locals know.
Love getting coffee here and working. Friendly staff and co-coffee drinkers. Great food too.
I just enjoyed the ambiance while meeting a friend today (they were closed but baking for tomorrow). Good smells, nice atmosphere, parking.
A very nice Cafe with outdoor seating.
Pre-made items. Small selection but good. Coffee and tea.
Amazing service, offers a comfortable, clean, and inviting atmosphere truly fitting of a Durango coffee shop. Best and strongest mocha in town by far, tantalizingly delicious cookies, cakes, salads, quiches, and an assortment of other items which all compliment any beverage and can easily hold their own as a stand-alone meal item. Highly recommend.
Wonderful space. Open, happy. Good coffee and treats. Many gluten free and vegan options.
Homey coffee shop. They keep it clean and pay attention to detail. Great for a quick cup of coffee or a meet-up with friends.
I keep coming back for the delicious gluten free baked goods! They also have good coffee, friendly service, and a cozy atmosphere
The Smiley Cade should hang a large sign out front “Elites Only - No Old People”. There isn’t enough parking so they took away 4 of the closest spots for charging stations - if a person doesn’t have the good sense to charge their car at home they don’t have the good sense to have an electric car. I am 78 and today in pain so I parked in one of the 4 empty spots. I was asked to leave. I have left forever and will tell my friends
Great place for coffee and a breakfast pastry. The Smiley building has a nice atmosphere and there are plenty of tables, couches as little nooks to hang out in whether its to relax alone, have coffee with a friend or meet for business.
Two thumbs up .
Best hidden coffee shop in town! Yummy quiche and endless cups of $2 coffee. :)
This is a great place to meet friends and enjoy their healthy food and drink. Which I like to do after my hula class that I enjoy being a part of on Tuesdays and Thursdays on the second floor of the smiley building.
Great atmosphere, and friendly service!
Delicious sandwiches and soup and really good coffee. Also the friendliest people and a really nice atmosphere, quiet and pleasant. A gem in Durango, you should go here!
This place is a hidden gem as they say and it is quite spacey. The only dilemma I had was that there are not many outlets to plug into. Seems like you gotta get there early....
Loved it to not two bucks for coffee yummy
Smiley Cafe luv luv luv. What a warm, inviting, cozy, place. Lovely goodie and coffee shop tucked inside the school.
This is the best cafe im Durango! The atmosphere inspires conversation and productivity better than anywhere else in town and every time I go here I bump into someone I know or meet someone new. The food might be a bit pricey but the coffee and staff are both great. The building is full of energy, good vibes, and cool places to post up and work. If you live in Durango and havent been here yet, youre missing out!
My first time in and I love it! The lemon lavender muffins were amazing.
A great place for people to interact with each other!
First decent coffee Ive had in Durango. Being inside of an old Jr. High (Emory E Smiley) makes it fun.
Great atmosphere in a beautiful part of town.
I enjoyed the tasty and filling bean soup. Perfect for a cold day.
Loved the way they make my black coffee.
Quiche is delish! Thats all Ive ever tried, however. I frequent the Smiley building to attend dance and Tai Chi classes.
A delightful spot with great breakfast food. Shhhhhh... its a great local secret. 😉
My favorite local coffee shop when I want a cozy, comfy environment and the option to buy food too. All baked goods are GF, and some are vegan as well.
Good coffee and the chocolate chip blood orange muffin is awesome
Fresh food, high quality, beautiful location, excellent staff/service and free parking. The best amenity is free charging ports for electric cars!
Lovely coffee shop with tons of room for working
Cozy atmosphere, friendly staff, good food, endless coffee... what more could you ask for?
Great little shop if youre looking for a unique Chai and coffee!
So cute! A great place to relax and do homework!
Great neighborhood stop for coffee, breakfast, lunch and snacks.
Great space to get food hang out or work!
Great place full of knowledge, good people and lots of energy.
This place is awesome!! I went on a Friday morning around 7:20 AM and the woman working the counter (I believe the owner) was incredibly nice and helpful. They have fresh daily sandwiches, and some amazing looking gluten free baked goods - I got the GF Apple Fig muffin and it was so, so good. They also have a delicious looking Nutty Bar that looks like a Blondie with some nuts/seeds, and Id love to try their coffee (I remember seeing Chai, Macchiatto, and quite a few other options on the drink menu). The place is very spacious with lots of tables/seating and seems like a great reprieve from the more fishbowl coffee places on Main St. I will definitely be back here to work soon, and when I mentioned this to the owner she said she always accommodates anyone that needs softer music or anything.Im not sure how many people are aware this place exists, I highly recommend checking it out - they deserve the business!
Nice people, decent service.Nice vibe, super cool building.
Its nice place to go and chil and listen to great music.
Very good coffee and rollsNice atmosphere.
Great staff, delicious food!
The two young ladies seemed to be training each other & took a couple tries to get my chai order correct.
Loove it! I go all the time the atmosphere is wonderful and calm and great coffee and treats
Handmade delicacies, really attentive staff and the cool Smiley vibe
I had a massage in the building. The cafe has really good food
Love this place, the proprietors, and their fair! Stop by and check them out...real coffee, real mugs, real friendly!!
Super cute. high brick walls.
Great coffee great service :-)
Happy employees but most things are a bit overpriced
A leap ahead of other coffee shops - a combination of the best coffee and food in Durango.
I love meeting clients at Smiley Cafe
Nice breakfast and Coffee
Great hidden gem in Durango!
Great food, great folks.
Nice atmosphere, small selection of overpriced food items.
Relaxed friendly place.
