We broke down outside of town and with 2 hours notice they got us in and were working on the problems. They did a great job with the repairs and the most fair pricing for honest labor I have had on any repair. Even though the repairs were major and long, they squeezed us in because we had nowhere to stay in town since we were just passing through. They made sacrifices to help us out, didnt know that people still did that. If I lived in Ellensburg, this place would be my go to.

Great service! We had taken our car to another mechanic in town who misdiagnosed a pretty significant problem. Gas line leak... they the problem was the trunk not closing properly so exhaust fumes were leaking in and wed need to take it to a body shop to be fixed. Then charged us $125 for the diagnostic. Which thankfully we were able to get refunded after they called Independent to confirm even though we showed them the receipt for the work that was done to actually fix the problem.Independent knew without even touching the car that it had to have something to do with the gas... based off what I explained to him and him smelling the gas outside of the car.We will be taking all of our vehicles to Independent from now on.

These guys are great at complicated electrical diagnostics and didnt try to rip me off like seth motors. Great guys and honest business.Edit: additionally in the past couple months they fixed the busted/rusted bolt and leak in my hard to work on Troopers exhaust manifold with a helicoil insert and a reasonable price. No one else including myself would touch it.Currently they just diagnosed a failing inner tie rod that had been misdiagnosed elsewhere as being a hub issue. Absolutely thrilled with this shop and its techs.

I had a major engine issue when coming through Ellensburg last week. The guys at Independent did an excellent job on my Volvo, kept the price to their estimate, had the repairs completed on-time, and so far the car is running great. I was skeptical about their ability to do such a large job, but the car is now running better than ever. Special thank you to Terry who talked me through the problem and solution. My only request is that these guys move to Seattle....No likely.

In Central Washington, needing repairs to Eurovan. Exterior driver door handle broken; brake switch malfunction, occasionally not allowing Park to Drive. Dropped off my van Monday, Dec 30 for repair appointment. Greeted by a voice from back room, can I help you, yes, I have appt, need you to work on car. I wont work on it, but let me get someone to help you. Brings in a mechanic from shop. I repeated issues I had explained on phone. Okay. Got a call Friday. Driver door handle broken, hard to get to. Nothing wrong with shifter. Van had not been moved from snowy parking lot, so mechanic had been working on it outside of high-tech shop. Well, for $55 they confirmed my diagnosis of broken handle. Cheaper than parking at airport... if you want Auto Training Institute grad to ooh and ahhh over your custom rims or stereo, this is your shop.

Highly satisfied!these gentlemen found out what was wrong with my car fast, helped me move my car, and assisted in jumping my car. They also graciously installed a new relay for my fuel pump for free. Great hospitality and a friendly environment. I have used them in the past and will continue to do so in the future. Big shout out to Matthew Funston and Chris Sprecher for their generosity and help. These guys deserve a raise. I would highly recommend Independent auto repair for all your vehicle service needs. thanks again guys!

I live near Seattle. My Ford Bronco blew its radiator on I-90. The tow truck driver suggested these folks and dropped it off there late at night. I was worried that Id be taken advantage of because of my predicament but that turned out not to be the case at all. I know what parts cost and they charged me very fairly. Their labor was reasonable too. They had me on the road by 10:30 the next morning. Lou even picked me up at my motel! Great people.I recommend them wholeheartedly.

Independent Auto in Ellesnburg is a scam.I take my car in to get my headlight fixed, as well as new wiper blades and an oil change. The estimate I was told was $152. I was told they didnt need to change the headlight, it just wasnt plugged in. That brought the total of what I paid after work was done to $148.Im not sure how plugging a cable in versus actually installing a new bulb is a $4 difference, but whatever.Friday night Im driving and the headlight is out. I call them, theyre closed. I leave a message with my phone number and ask for a call. All of Monday passes, no call. Get to today (Tuesday), still no call after theyve been open for about four hours. I call them myself again.Im told to fix the headlight it will be $80 or $90. Upon saying this is a bit silly, as Ive already paid to get my headlight fixed but they didnt do it, Im told they didnt charge me for plugging the headlight in. Despite it being $4 under what I was told it would cost. Its also fun that no one told me when my car was fixed and I was being charged that the headlight fix was free, as I would have asked these questions then.If youre in Ellensburg and need anything done for your car, go literally anywhere other than Independent Auto.

Top of the line. My van broke down on the Hwy and had it towed to another shop first and took a week to fix and i broke down again 30 miles down the road. Towed it to this shop and they had it repaired the next day and also found the real problem also fixed the items the last shop didnt bother with. Wish I lived closer so I could use them on all my cars.

They fit me in when my car started making funny noises just as I was driving into Ellensburg from a different part of the state and I needed to turn around and head back out soon. They looked at the car, diagnosed what turned out to be a trivial problem, fixed it, and had me back on the road in a very short time.Competence. Integrity. Kindness in business. What more can you ask for

Ive had my truck in for several issues and the outcome has been great every time. The parts theyve used have been top quality. Just recently there was a hard to diagnose issue that eventually was narrowed down to the head gaskets. Matt and the crew jumped in, disassembled the engine and send the heads off for resurfacing, then reassembled with all new gaskets for everything (not just the heads), and new fluids. At the same time I had them replace the manifolds as there was an exhaust leak there. Throughout the process Matt kept me informed on the progress. Im happy to say that the truck runs exceptionally well now. I couldnt be happier with the service.

I am writing in response to the negative comments and my own experience over the years. I used to go here from 2008 to 2011 for repairs on a 2003 Civic. I never felt they overcharged or did poor work in those years. Even when my engine went bad and they swapped out for a good used one, the price was reasonable to change an engine out. To the negative reviewers: Nobody is perfect and everybody, including you, makes mistakes. I can remember few if any times Independent made a mistake, and they made it right if so. The techs are smart and skilled here, and know how to fix problems without overcharging. Gives these guys a call, they are legit and honest, in my own dealings with them.

My daughter broke down in Ellensburg at 4pm on a Friday. She was 200 miles away from home. I called them, explained the situation and they jumped into action. They got her car to the shop and worked on her car until they could determine what was wrong, well past closing time. We decided to take the vehicle to a dealer who could make the repairs that weekend. Independent Auto gave detailed instructions what was wrong for the next mechanic and charged a very fair price. In an industry that is sometimes taking advantage of those in need, these guys and gals have restored my faith in humanity.Thank you Independent Auto.

Awesome at their jobs as far as repair and giving you a fair price. My only complaint is that they dont do a great job of communication. I have never recieved a call from the shop. Anytime I want communication, (to see if the repair is finished and the car is ready to be picked up, for example) I have to call. Other than that minor inconvenience they do a great job and Id still recommend them to anyone.

Left a tool in my engine which could have rattled out on the freeway. Left a hose unhooked and left a very loose bolt untightened. I know this sounds impossible but Im leaving a 3 star because this is my second not good experience here. ESPECIALLY for what they charged. Probably an hour and a half of labor, 2 small parts ($100 max) they charged $500. The best part is, its well known the coil packs go out one after another and they never said anything about it.A 5 star review would have been left if no tools were left, all the hoses hooked back up, and at least a mention of the known coil problems after 100,000 miles. Not $500 per visit as they go out one week apart. Thats shady in my book. They did get to the car relatively quickly, I will say thats the only positive.

This was the best auto repair experience Ive ever had by a MILE.My car SMASHED into a Snoqualmie Pass guard rail and was TOAST. I had to get towed to Ellensburg, was absolutely freaked out and dreaded going into the shop.I was immediately greeted by a sweet old dog (who certainly calmed me down) and a very friendly and knowledgeable gent who had diagnosed my car with his opinion of the scale of work required before they even opened! They assured me theyd do what it took to get me back on the road today and gave me a ride back to my hotel without a second thought. My car, which was COMPLETELY non-operational, was road ready to drive back home for under 300 bucks and in LESS THAN THREE HOURS. I didnt even have time to finish my coffee. If you have car troubles anywhere near Ellensburg at ALL, you should get towed here.
