A delicious spot for these dessert bowls! So chewy and delicious! Make sure you share the large bowl with friends because it is quite a large portion considering that it is still a dessert. I’m from California where we have Meet Fresh, so that’s my comparison point. I do wish the taro balls were a bit softer, and the mango was sweeter (it can be sour). However, the service was awesome and very attentive. I will be back!
Good dessert store. I was coming for the taro grass jelly and pretty happy with what I got. I can taste the fresh ingredients of the taro balls and I like that it has just the right amount of sweetness. The tofu pudding is a gem as well. As the nice manager recommended, I chose the lotus seed topping that turns out a good surprise for me.The store is new and quite empty, may not have enough seating for big groups. And frankly is a little pricey. The manager also told me that they are still adjusting the price so will see. I’m looking forward to their grand opening and more items on the menu.
So light and delicious!! A great and fillong option
Quite pricey for what it is, but tastes pretty good. I’ll probably come again to try other things. One star taken off for price.
This place is a really great for dessert! The taro is really fresh and the ice for the shaved ice is very fine and soft. The enviroment is very open and clean. The only reason why I didnt give this place 5 stars is because it took a long time for the dessert to come out. But in terms of taste and quality, this is definitely one of the better shaved ice places in the area and I will be returning for sure!
Over priced Taiwanese dessert.Quality was so so. Would be alright if they priced it lower but it doesnt taste that great. The environment was below average. Customer service was great, very friendly. No issue when I asked for additional sweetener and extra bowls. Options on menu are quite limited. Though I heard they are coming up with new menu items. Would come back to try their drinks.
Best grass jelly in the area!!! Taste exactly like ones you can find in Taiwan. Highly recommend.
I went this store on the 3rd day of their soft opening. I read some of the google reviews before I went there, but my overall experience was great. The food can be scored between 3.5 to 4. But the service was definitely 5 out of 5.Pros: 1) Amazing taro balls! Super soft as well as chewy. You can taste the freshness. It’s definitely not the frozen one. You can also taste the real taro, sweet potato and purple potato! Highly recommend!2) Great volume. Other reviewers mentioned the small volume of their product. However, I got a full bowl for my order (see the picture). I was full after finishing my bowl. Probably the manager read the review and increased their volume.3) Service was outstanding. The manager came out and asked our opinion about their food. Super friendly and humble. She also gave me a free topping, since they ran out of the product that I intended to order.Cons: 1) The red bean soup base was a little plain. I think they can use more red been to make the soup more rich. The soup was a little bit water-ish2) The soup base (we ordered herbal jelly and red bean) could be more sweet.3) I agree with the previous reviewer, the overall quality of their product can’t reach the level of Meet Fresh that I tried in NC or NYC. But, still a good place for me to have some taro balls
Updated late August 2019:I visited another 3 times after the original review in June. These 3 times, they provided very consist food quality. That’s why I updated the stars to 4. Now they offer fair amount of toppings. Minus 1 star is because their drink and other things like the mango sago are just below good.Original review:Worst grass jelly bowl ever. They need to make improvement a lot, a lot! My friend doesn’t think they can have their business more than 6 month after the first bite.Taro balls are like plastic, inside is not cooked and hard. Grass jelly tastes like a wrong mix, they mixed with too much water. Bean are not well done and not well defrosted. Hard to believe that’s what I paid for $9 dollar.
Weird hours on Sunday but the guy is very nice and food is delicious
So happy I found this taro place! All the dishes that Ive tried are sweet and delicious. Highly recommended to anyone that is craving some taro desserts!
Manager is nice, the best taro in northern VA area.
SPOILER ALERT: This is a ***8-star*** place for Asian desserts (e.g. Taro sago, *super fresh* grass jelly, shaved ice, and tons of other bowls of sweet goodness). Only wish Google would let me give more than 5 stars. And does there website mention organic --- Wat! That is awesome.I had to drive back to Cents Taro two days in a row because the desserts are unfathomably satisfying and delicious. Definitely an epicureans dream dessert place. And no, this place is not a YABT (Yet-Another-Bubble-Tea) store. Quite frankly, the menu only has one bubble tea drink so that means they actually concentrate on the actual desserts.I stopped submitting reviews due to my personal & work schedule. Rarely does a food establishment pique my interest. But the desserts at Cents Taro has definitely compelled me to come out of hiatus to submit this review. WHY you ask? Because I am hoping this place never closes, I hope it grows, it takes me home when I eat here (which is extremely rare), and its competing as my #1 death row meal restaurants to eat at.On to my actual review - first, the staff. They are phenomenal and they are actually the reason why we drive over 10 miles just to eat dessert here. They would introduce ways to customize the dessert to make it taste better (even during a busy line). And it actually did taste better! The grass jelly tastes like an herb pillow-cloud in your mouth - not like that super hard canned stuff Im used to. And the batches of Taro Sago (that uses fresh taro), sweet soy tofu, and .... its just to die for. There is nothing else like it offered by any other Asian community shop. Check the photos out, you can see for yourself.NOTE to reader when ordering: For the sweet finishing sauce, you can actually request for condensed milk *AND* Brown sugar ginger sauce together! So Cents Taro.... thanks for taking me home - however ephemeral it may be, it was well worth it. And I plan to be one of your biggest repeat customers.
Good grass jelly. Bubble tea wasnt very good
Really nice! Great variety, will definitely come back.
Very authentic Chinese desserts!
Good desert store. A little pricy, yet the desert tastes fresh and delicious.
What a little gem! We were there with our kids this weekend and we loved the shaved ice with fresh fruit. Especially the mango and dragon fruit- delicious! It was topped with green tea ice cream. We’ll be back. The managers were also super nice.
Wonderful place to hangout in summer! The taste is perfect, not too sweet, with a lot of fresh fruits. The manager and staffs are very nice. You can tell that they care about the food and service and customer’s experience. Also, they prepared some toys and candies for kids! I strongly recommend this place!
Had the shaved ice with fruit and it was really good and I enjoyed it and my wife had something similar and she was very happy too. My only complaint is that I wanted a bubble tea but the Pearl bubbly was not ready when we got there and it was after 12 thirty minutes after they open. Also, I wish there was a greater variety of bubble teas, like a Thai bubble tea smoothies.
Hands down the best Taiwanese dessert place in Fairfax, VA. There’s not a ton of selection in this area sadly, but for true grass jelly lovers (you know who you are), this place more than satisfied the craving with a clean, fun, and friendly vibe.
The shaved ice was made and presented very well, and tasted super yummy!! I would definitely recommend going and trying their taro balls
I got the The tofu pudding and it was delissh! its fresh and packed full of flavor. however the price could be a reduced a bit. 1 bowl is about $10. but the portions are pretty big.
Our favorite Taiwanese dessert place in the area. The tofu pudding is highly recommended. The owners are nice, hardworking and friendly. We visited during their opening day.... theyve provided a wonderful experience each time.
I really like the taro balls they taste super good! The manager was also really kind and asked how we liked our food and if she can help make it better in anyway. Will come back again for good grass jelly, taro balls, and nice staff :)
We ordered a porridge and a grass jelly with taro balls, some fruits, and barley rice. The fruits were very fresh and the taro balls were very chewy and tasty. Moreover, the food wasn’t too sweet for me (I’m not a huge fan of super sweet stuff). The barley was a little bit harder than I expected but still pretty good. Hope their ice shaver gets fixed soon~
Why are you guys always closed?
Great soft opening. We had a special order family sized shaved ice and it was a mountain of goodies on it. Well more than what five adults and three kids can handle! The previous complaint of only four tables isnt really valid as a large percentage of business is for to go orders. It was pretty busy once the doors opened at 1PM and there wasnt any issues of table availability. If business is this good on a soft opening, Im confident that the kinks will be ironed out by the grand opening and the business will be successful.
Very refreshing and delicious! A nice light dessert that isn’t overwhelming sweet! Also, No artificial flavors and everything made fresh was a huge plus!
A little bit over priced, dont recommend reducing the price, try improving quality! Make sure the food and service will be above customers expectation, especially for first time customers, otherwise you will lose them forever. Make sure you ask and understand customers expectation and try to meet it, dont explain to customers why you cant meet it or how you will fix the problem in the future. People are not here to get their stomach full, but to enjoy, so pay extra attention to details of food and service. Enjoyment is very delicate, a little bit imperfection can ruin all that have been earned. For seat and table layout, I would recommend taking Blue Ocean at Pickett Shopping Center as an example. Also, please allow customers to choose level of sweet.
Love this place and everything inside this store. Very friendly and professional milk tea provider in the area. I would love to recommend it to all.
Changing my review of this place to 5 stars. Their soft opening was a disaster but now they’ve done a complete 180. More taro balls, better taste, right pricing.
Been months and still coming here regularly! Grass jelly and tofu are great and the black sesame base was a nice change during the colder months. Owners are super helpful and friendly, dont be afraid to ask for a sample!
Best place for milk tea, shaved ice, and taro ball! All desserts are homemade with organic sugar. Staffs are super friendly and helpful.
I loved their bubble tea and have been back at least six timesVery friendly and clean.Good parking and easy access in the heart of Fairfax,It’s definitely a good spot
Another authentic flavor in the DMV area. The service was great. The girl helping us was patient and super helpful
I went just for the bubble tea. Fresh whole milk and lots of tapioca balls, it was delicious and refreshing.Looking forward to trying their shaved ice desserts next time!
At the price of $9 dollar for one bowl, Total of 9 Taro balls with the shaved ice, and that was double portion. A one portion would be four or five taro balls.Way too expensive. Portion is small. The soybean bowl is waste of time. All water and diluted soypaste.Total of four tables in the place. I guess even the owner does not expect much business.I will not go back.
Great place
I loved the iced fresh milk Oolong the flavor and taste was great. I highly recommend this place.
Pretty impressive new type of dessert place to go. Love the taste:)
Comfortable, nice new asian dessert for the area. The staffs are super friendly and helpful ! Its not too sweet; just to my liking !
I used to eat it often when I was in Shanghai. I am so happy that Cents Taro Famiky opened here. I really love this. ❤️
We decided to try this place given all the positive reviews and being in the area. Wayfinding to get here is limited. If youre coming from west, you need to make a very tight u-turn at the light near IHOP. The dessert itself is very mediocre, especially for $8 a person. At a Thai or Korean dessert place, for just a dollar or 2 more, you have a dessert to share amongst several people. The taro balls arent bad, but the bowls themselves are pretty awful. The red bean isnt thoroughly and evenly cooked through. Theres way too much water/liquid in the bowls, again, for $8. Also, theres an array of signage types on the walls - TV for main menu, chalkboard, and then the best part - 2 sheets of paper with childs handwriting of the rest of the menu - unprofessional and not a great first impression.
Very cool experience!
The grassjelly here is sooooooo soft! Plus the people are super friendly here!!
Awesome little comfortable place, very clean environment. Reasonable price, everything was delicious.
Great Jelly with hand-made taro, red bean and boba in all natural milk with very friendly price! You can also choose lactose free milk.I especially love their Taro. It’s soft but chewy~Their read bean is also very great. I see they made them by all natrual sucrose syrup. A highly heathy receipt. I do really afraid of side effects of saccharine which are often used in Asian dessert restaurant.Highly recommend, and will come again!
Giving a place a star during their soft opening is a bit harsh, especially if they’re still working out some quirks, so i’ll try my best to be gentle to the up and coming dessert joint. The atmosphere was ok, it’s a bit underwhelming with its minimal decorations. Perhaps, they’re going for the minimalistic vibe?Seating was limited during my visit. It was jam packed, but there were only 4 tables available. Would’ve been nice if they had used booths or had bolted-on seats along the entire wall. Hopefully, the seating issue is temporary and the owner gives some thought to scalability. Now on to the desserts.... I ordered the grass jelly dessert and the tofu pudding. The grass jelly was... strange, it definitely could have been better through several factors. First being, their usage of a blender to break the ice down for the shaved ice base, which is sort of unorthodox, especially since they put so much emphasis on their “authenticity”. I don’t know what sort of authenticity utilizes a blender to break ice rather than a traditional shaved ice maker. You’re not going to end up with shaved ice, instead we’ll call it blended ice. Then, I saw the employee pull out a big jug of lactaid. Followed up with a flooding of the bowl of blended ice. There goes my blended ice i said to myself.. and by the time they placed all the toppings on, about 90% of the shaved ice had melted. Now i’m not quite sure if this experience wouldve varied if i had picked the shaved ice dessert, but there was no option to add grass jelly as a topping for that and I was craving some grass jelly, therefore i went with the grass jelly dessert. I would’ve been happier if they had given me the option to add the milk in myself. Overall, the dessert was ok. The taro balls were well made, chewy, and plentiful(contrary to the earlier review),but besides that, i’m all out of compliments.Maybe for the future, throw some preset combos and sample pictures somewhere to give your consumers an idea of what the desserts will look like because theres barely any descriptions that detail what a dessert entails.Onto the tofu pudding dessert!Burnt. The tofu pudding was burnt. It tasted burnt. It’s a common mistake when producing tofu pudding. I’ll be lenient because theyre new on the block. A rookie mistake. Oh and it’s lacking the hint of ginger that every bowl of douhua needs. C’mon folks, where’s the authenticity?!Pricing wise - average prices. A bowl is gonna be 8-9 dollars with additional toppings ranging from 2-3 dollars(yikes). Drinks are around 4 dollars.Oh and please seal the lid properly when you prepare your to-go orders. My bowl wasn’t even capped correctly, so when i opened the plastic bag, there was a lake of lactaid floating at the bottom. Common mistake though, but double the due diligence next time.Overall, the experience was poor. They’re new, so i’m sure they’re prepared to collect all the incoming feedback to improve their business. I’d give them a shot if you haven’t tried yet. If you’re expecting a Meet Fresh experience, you’re not gonna get it here, but hey, maybe they can make something for themselves down the road.Btw, why is the upcoming rockville branch called Taro Cents Family? What is up with that naming scheme?
Authentic Taiwanese shaved ice. Yummy.
I really like this place! Give it a try!
Lovely owners and great tofu here!
Perfect dessert!
Good~
The staff are rude, lack of manners, patience and working ethic. They dont know how to respond to customers politely and decently. Basically, its rude place, not worth going. Silly, dont know how to talk to people politely.
