Good news! The buffett is opening next week. In the interim, their lunch menu is filled with affordable dishes between $10-12. The menu was redesigned to focus on the different curries or sauces for which you pick the protein. Their is also an Tandoori option. The food was filled with flavors and as always the Naan is made fresh.The service is always hospitable and their teamwork in service is impeccable.
It was great to see this place survived the covid-19 emergency. These days the lunch buffet is no longer offered. Instead there is a limited menu to choose from. The food is quite good, and the servers are helpful and friendly. If you like Indian food, or just want to try it for the first time, Id highly recommend the Bay Leaf.
Excellent food at Bayleaf! Last night I was craving curry and also wanted goat. Not a lot of places in Birmingham serve goat, but they do! While ordering takeout over the phone, I asked which curry type they would suggest with goat and was told the Rogan Josh. I ordered that with the garlic naan (my favorite). It was absolutely delicious and even though I had planned on saving half for lunch the next day, I ate it all. Perfect flavor and the meat was very tender. I am sad that the lunch buffet is currently unavailable due to safety measures for COVID-19, but I completely understand and am thankful that the well-being of their guests and employees takes priority. Im looking forward to it returning when this eventually passes. As well, when I entered the restaurant to pick up my meal, I was happy to see that tables were very spaced out, guests were seated very far apart, and all employees were wearing masks.Thank you for the great meal! I will definitely be back soon.
I have not been here since early 2020 to due COIVD. The fresh paint and updated décor elevate the experience. I made a reservation and had an adorable name card waiting for me. I wish I had taken photos of the food, it was expertly crafted. Everything was wonderful and the wait staff were so friendly. Excited to go back again!!
Delicious blend of flavors. We love to be able to order take out and enjoy their meals at home without worrying about sitting in a restaurant. Always great service and friendly folks. We get invited back each time we visit

For Birmingham AL it is a good Indian dinning spot; however, we recently moved here from Atlanta where you can get considerably better. Would I go again? Absolutely!
My husband & I was looking for a good Indian place here in Birmingham since we just moved here. The food was very good & I would eat it again. The Naan was a little different than we was used to & wish they made it a different way. But overall would recommend.

The staff here was very friendly and helping us decide what we should eat. The appetizers were good. The curry was fantastic. The goat curry meet was very soft and flavorful. The servers were very attentive and the restaurant was clean. I would come and eat curry here again any day. The non-bread was also very good. The non-bread with cherry and coconut was a pleasant surprise.

Took my family to try Indian cuisine for the first time. The lunch special comes with a little bit of everything and is so good! I highly recommend! parents loved the seafood platter with lamb as well. and the waitress took the time to explain our plates. I will definitely be back for more
Its a nice place to have Indian fission food..the food was tasty. Ambiance and service was great!Since its a fission place, you dont get spicy food if you are looking for it...but its flavorful and nice.Had tried Pan based Drink...its amazing!!
My family visited for the first time and loved it! We are Indian Cuisine fanatics and their food was flavorful and delicious. We also enjoyed the service from our very nice and quite amusing server, Jared. This will become part of our regular dine out rotation!
We moved to the area a year ago and haven’t found a good Indian restaurant until now! Wow we can’t say enough about Bay Leaf off 280. The food was amazing. The flavors are so good and portion size is perfect. I loved their lunch special you get so many things. I was most impressed that I ordered take out and the gentleman took the extra time to walk it out to my car. It was much appreciated. We will be back and I will recommend this restaurant to everyone! You won’t be disappointed.

This is my favorite Indian restaurant! I try to go by as often as I can and the hour long drive from my house is so worth it!!! The staff is so polite and nice. The food is top notch and authentic and the ambiance of the restaurant is very inviting. If I could give them more than 5 stars, I would.
I had lunch buffet there. The food was not great, it lacked flavors of indian food. the variety in veg food was lacking, just one entre. Non-veg also did not taste great. food lack quality.

Very ordinary Indian restaurant. I was there for dinner. They gave us complimentary fried papadum ( crispy Indian snack), which was clearly not freshly fried. The food was very ordinary. The mango lassi, ( mostly the yogurt they used in it) was not very fresh and good. We ordered a chicken biriyani, to go. What they gave us, is not bad but clearly not biriyani ! I have not tried their lunch buffet though. I hope that might be little better and fresh.

Easy and quick online ordering and pickup. Ordered the DHABA CHICKEN CURRY and Spinach salad. Both were tasty, curry could be a little more spicy (hot)

Excellent Indian food with many great options including some delicious drinks from the bar. I had the kabab chicken with Basmati rice (I like simple things) and some butter naan, which was fresh baked and amazing. Everyone was happy with their food. The service was also great. Very friendly and attentive wait staff. Definitely a restaurant I would recommend.

I have been to this place twice and each time has been a great experience! The servers are genuine and attentive! The food, oh man, is of great quality and the pricing is very fair! Great takeout experience. Ordered online for curbside pickup, I got a text when my food was being prepared, and then another when it was ready for pickup. A nice ogentleman came to my car window to ask my name and came back out with my food a few minutes later. Ordered Chicken Tikka Masala and Lamb Vindaloo with garlic and butter naan and all of it was great and portions were good. The containers were perfect for holding the leftovers for later meals. When I asked what their heat levels are he let me know they are mild, medium, hot, and if you want really spicy, ask for Indian hot. Definitely enjoyed this experience and plan on ordering from here again.

Perfect for a casual family night, take out, delivery, as well as a high end business lunch or date night where impeccable dining service experience is important. Basmati rice cooked perfectly. Loved the light airy texture. The Lamb Pasanda was a hearty and tender, with a well rounded gentle milder curry sauce. Perfect dish to try if you havent eaten indian before. The higher protein content from cream sauce and almond powder makes this fish extremely filling. You will definitely need a nap afterwards. Zero work getting done after because you wont be worth nuffin after you had your fill. Im very impressed that the staff called to alert me grubhub driver pulled a no show. They waited for me, even though restaurant was closed. I will definitely order delivery directly from Bay Leaf website next time. Any other restaurant wouldve just left and never called me. Bay leaf, Im looking forward to my next visit to try a new meal.

My family has been here 2 times now. Last Friday night was for my Birthday party of 7. I have to say this is probably our favorite restaurant. The staff is very friendly, the authentic Indian food is the very best in town. The prices are very reasonable. Can’t wait to go back. And Aman (don’t know if this is how you spell his name) is terrific. I had left my birthday present there when we left. Before I got home he called to tell me that I had forgotten to get it. Thanks for a wonderful evening.
I have been there a year ago. The food and customer service was terrible back then. I have visited the store in the weekend to try it out again. The food was delicious. But the customer service was still the same. It seems their staff has a big show of attitude especially that short lady. Never gonna come again and gonna recommend the same to my friends and co to never visit.
The food here is always authentic and amazing! My only complaint is that they are so far away from Trussville. Do your taste buds a favor if youve never tried this place and check them out!
Very lovely establishment. The manager on duty was Kiran. Him, along with the nice last lady in the front, made the experience good. She explained to us the menu. The food also tastes very good.

Food was delicious! Service was friendly. I was thanked for my order and I thought that was really nice of the young woman who helped me. I ordered the chana masala. It was flavorful and a large portion. I ate it for lunch and finished it for dinner. I also ordered the garlic naan, and it was smothered in fresh garlic and herbs and was SO good! Definitely recommend!
The service is quite good and the food is well prepared. Unsurprisingly, the food is well seasoned although some may find it on the spicy side. An enjoyable experience through and through.
The 5 stars is purely for the food! I lived in Washington DC and enjoyed curry and other Indian foods regularly so when I came to Birmingham I was looking for somewhere that I could get some. This is the BEST PLACE to get curry in Birmingham, hands down. Ive had the tikka Masala and kadhai with lamb with butter naan twice now. The quality is consistent! However I give 4 stars to the service. The 280 location seems to be under staffed and that affects the quality of service but they are really trying. Also their online ordering system seems to be faulty. I paid for an order, came to pick it up but it seemed to not go through to the restaurant. However, they apologized and made my order right away no questions asked! So overall I will continue to spend my money here and will encourage others to do so if they want the best Indian cuisine in Birmingham!

The food and service were good. However, the food portion was very small compared to the price. We were 2 of us and had to literally think how to finish our naans with the amount of korma served.
I usually get takeout from here and it is always a great experience! Food is always well prepared and packaged up nicely on the takeout orders.
My Sister wanted to try Indian food for the first time and we had the most beautiful experience here. Anaan is amazing and took the time to break dishes down for us and even share the intention behind some. Everything was flavorful and made with lots of Love. We will definitely come back if were ever passing through again.

My wife and I have been searching for our new Indian restaurant since moving to the area earlier this year. After a few not so great choices, we found Bay Leaf to be exactly what we were looking for. Restaurant recently made a lot of improvements and renovations (Since pandemic started). The food is good, service is great and hygiene is spot on. Everything is clean and I feel absolutely safe while eating.They started serving Thali in place of the lunch buffet due to COVID... which is better IMO anyway. You still get the variety of different curries, but you get to pick the spice level etc.
It was so delicious! The staff were very nice as well. The paneer tikka masala and manchurian cauliflower were our favorites. 10/10 recommend.
Bay Leaf has great food, atmosphere, and service. I highly recommend. Anand, our usual server, is a delight. He teaches and practices Hindi with us and always does an excellent job.

Food is good not so great. You don’t find good BIRYANI over here, I would suggest to try only Naans. I didn’t find veg starters here, two non veg starters, two deserts. Overall experience is good not so great who carves for big buffet n variety of food items. Good service, they are attentive. I have asked for Naans when they are out in buffet, they brought it to my table.

Love this place. Our whole family loves this place. It’s bit pricey but I suppose great food comes with the price.We’ve only done carry-outs because of the COVID pandemic but the staff is always friendly and courteous.I highly recommend this place.
Everything was delicious and exploding with flavor! I would add photos but I never leave reviews and by the time I realized that this was worth leaving a review about, all we add were empty dishes and crumbs of naan on our shirts
Ive eaten here a few times now, the most recent being last Saturday. The food is always amazing, and I dont use that adjective for food very often. If you dont like your food spicy, tell them mild on the spices. I got the Chana Masala, and will definitely get it again.
My favorite dish is no longer on the menu so I tried the Shrimp Moilee and it was excellent...my new favorite.

I tried to order pickup directly through the restaurant while bypassing DoorDash, UberEats, etc so the majority of my payment and tip would go towards the business and not some 3rd party app. It took almost an hour and a half to get my food (50 minutes past the projected ready time). The worst part was watching UberEats and DoorDash orders get picked up that were ordered well after I placed my order (I looked at the times on the Togo bag receipts haha). The food was AMAZING and I will order from them again but will probably call or use a third party ordering/delivery company next time.

Tiki Chicken Marsala was wonderful. Some of the best garlic naan bread I’ve had. To go order was easy, server was very nice and opened the door as I arrived and left.

Bay Leaf 280 is a must try for authentic Indian dishes! We had several items which are some of my favorites when traveling throughout India. The karari bhindi was cooked perfect and an excellent crispy vegetable. The lamb biryani was spicy and had just the right amount of spice for authentic flavor. The butter chicken was a little sweet but the gravy was the perfect thickness paired with garlic naan. The dal fry was enjoyable, but had too many spices on this particular visit. Open up your palate to these flavors that are not utilized in American cuisine.
Visited on a Sunday afternoon and had the lunch buffet.Had a combination of table seating and booth seating. The place was moderatly crowded at around 1:00 pm when we arrived. They close at 3:00 on Sundays. The decor was nothing to write home about. Mostly themed on the colors from the Indian flag. There was a TV going with mostly Bollywood themed songs and movie trailers going on.Had a good assortment of vegetarian and non vegetarian options to choose from. There was a basket of Naan bread (cut up), Biriyani rice and Vegetarian Hakka Noodles. The Naan had been sitting around for a while and lost its crispness. Did not try the rice. Veg Korma, Dhal Makhani and Saag Channa were the vegetarian options. There was curry Chicken, Hariyali Chicken, Chicken Tikka Masala and Goat curry on the Non Vegetarian side. The Goat curry looked like it had mostly been picked through and the pieces that were remaining were mostly fat and grizzle. The Chicken Tikka and Hariyali chicken were so-so.There was Raita and a Salad. The Raita was mostly good, the only complaint is it was on the sweet side. It had cucumbers and carrots in it. They had Tamarind chutney, Mint chutney etc which was a nice addition. The Salad looked like it had been picked through as well, there were some few pieces of carrot, cucumber and iceberg lettuce left over. Hardly any dressing on it.Dessert options were Semiya Payasam and a Mango rice pudding. Tried the Payasam and this was so-so as well.Both of us ordered a Mango Lassi to start with, which was quite good.I was hungry for some indian food, hence the visit. Would say it was a lack luster place, mostly an exercise in mediocrity, nothing special. Too many choices out there to consider going back.
I have gotten take out from here twice, and both times it has been wonderful! They are very nice and on time and have gotten my orders right! Would definitely recommend!

Very good food. If you like Indian food this is the best in Birmingham. I’ve had the chicken Tikka Masala, Kadhai, Butter Chicken(it was awesomeness on a plate), Daal Makhni(a vegetarian disk made from lentils) and the Naan bread is fabulous. Next time I’m trying the Burnt Chili Garlic Fried Rice.Nice atmosphere, professional presentation; and great food. Don’t miss it. If you haven’t tried Indian food you are missing out. I guarantee they something you’ll like.

We all enjoyed a flavorful Indian dinner. We love Indian food and usually go for the lunch buffets. Today we went for an off the menu dinner. I was happy because they had veg and non veg thali, a variety plate. I ordered the non veg with lamb curry. You can order your food mild, medium or spicy. TG I ordered medium, that was plenty hot. I thought the portions were good and they came with lots of rice and naan bread.
Pretty bad service and everything is overpriced it’s not even Indian food everything is pre made Bawarchi is 10 times better than this place any given time OVOID this place

My husband and I have been here several times. We have eaten Indian food in much larger cities (Atlanta, NYC, Charlotte, etc.) and this is still the best Indian restaurant weve ever experienced regarding the food and atmosphere. We eat in the restaurant rather than getting take out, and its always a good experience. Yes, it will be different than going to the Tavern at the Summit, but thats the point. Always attentive service, relatively good wine list, and high-quality authentic food. Bay Leaf has become one of our most loved restaurants in Birmingham.

My mom and I came here for lunch a few weeks ago during the week. The service was really excellent, quick without being overbearing. The restaurant was about 1/3 to 1/2 full of customers, but not overly loud. The food was really delicious and there was enough variety in the buffet that I made two trips to try a little of everything. But our favorite thing? No TVs. People were enjoying themselves, but the restaurant was quiet enough that we could hear ourselves speak to one another. Really enjoyed it and cant wait to go back.
