Orville is a nice enough guy, which is why I probably tried him twice, even after I knew he never looked at my car the first time I took it in and paid him a great deal of money for a whole lot of nothing. The first time I asked him to look over the entire car and write up anything it needed. I expressed that I wanted to know anything that would compromise safety or lead to bigger issues down the road. A few hours later he called me with a clean bill of health. Exactly what you want to hear from a car repair shop. However, when I arrived, I knew my car had never moved from where I parked it and there was no way he ever took the tires off because I had brake dust all over my wheels and there wasnt even one single finger print on the wheels. I also knew that above all, if anything, my tires were shot! When I asked him specifically about the tires he said, nope, theyre good. I knew they werent.Everyone is entitled to a bad day and he has so many good reviews and one personal review from one of his current customers that I thought Id give him another try after the noises I was concerned about intensified. Again, he charged me full price for looking the car over again that he claimed to have looked over just two weeks earlier and again said everything was good.I spent $300 for nothing! Turns out some of what I was experiencing was the need for new tires which I already knew, despite Orville saying they were fine. They were completely bald! Even I knew that. I just wanted to see what he would say. A test of honesty if you will. Additionally, what I experiencing (which was what prompted me to use him in the first place) was in fact brake noise which I expressed to Orville I thought it was. Turns out the brakes needed to be replaced. However, had Orville been more careful in his inspection, or even conducted it at all, I may not have needed to get knew rotors. yup. I went metal to metal all because Orville said everything was fine.If he had told me that I needed new pads I would have gladly approved the repair. Instead I incurred additional costs because the problem was allowed to go for too long. I also cry for the $300 wasted on his lack of inspection.I understand many of his customers swear by him and I hope he continues to do well by them. I, however, will not return. He also smoked in my car, YUCK!
Ive owned 10 Volvos in 3 States over 30 years. I have always had them serviced at shops that specialize in Volvo. Orville is, hands-down, the best mechanic Ive worked with. He is unusually transparent in his billing, and is always eager to show and tell exactly what hes looking for in reaching his diagnosis. I also appreciate that offers up the most cost effective solution to any problem first. VERY happy with Orville.
Orville, the mechanic at L & B, is an old master with Volvos of all ages. To my knowledge, he works only on Volvos and weve been taking ours to him for years after trying other independent Volvo mechanics in town. His prices are the best and his work is excellent.Have a college-bound kid in need of a reliable used car? Orville can round up one that you can count on for a very reasonable price and make sure it is road worthy before you drive off with it. My wife and I are very grateful Orville is available to us and we are not the only ones.
Orville is a fair mechanic and his prices are unbeatable. Ive been going to his shop since we moved to the area over 12 years ago. Ex-military, honest and funny; you wont find a better Volvo mechanic anywhere nearby.
Not bad.
