Merritt and his staff are very knowledgeable about all types of bikes. Repairs are done right the first time. I purchased a used frame that Merritt had had on the wall for a couple of months. He was able to build up the frame with new and slightly used parts to keep the cost down. He treats everyone fairly no matter what type of bike they have or how much money they have.

I brought my nephews bike in because it needed a new tire. I was thinking I would have to leave it and pick it up in a few days. I was pleasantly surprised when I was told they fix tires on the spot! I was out in less than 30 minutes. The young man who helped me was very nice. I was also very pleased with the price! Outstanding all around!

They was awesome we took my wifes bike up there for its one month inspection and they said everything looked good, they also took a look at my bike that didnt even come from there and told me that my front thru axel was a little wonky but also told me how to get a new one

What can I say about this place that hasnt been said already? The staff is super kind and knowledgeable. I wanted to bring an old Schwinn varsity frame back to life but James informed me the frame unfortunately was too small for me. Being 64 I knew finding a frame my size was going to be quite the task but taking a look through the frames they had available they managed to find one just my size! not only were they able to find the frame but they put the whole bike together! Ordered all the parts I needed and had it ready a week later! Loving the new ride, thanks to James and the rest of the wonderful staff at ReCycles, I know where to bring my, as well as all of my loved ones bikes in the future.

It is always awesome to walk into a bike shop and have the owner right there working on the bikes. Merritt was very friendly and super helpful in getting us a great value on our bike build parts. He took time to understand what our needs were and was happy to give us the beat deal possible. They have a great mission there of helping the community and those less fortunate too. Super bike shop! So, heres the deal. I went to this shop in November 2016 to have some minor work done on a bike. It was a very good experience and I was impressed with their work and friendliness. Because of that, I decided to return yesterday to have some minor work done again on a bike (simple tune-up). At first, everything was fine, but I noticed that they werent as friendly/welcoming as in the past and not too concerned with why I was there. I told them I needed some simple adjustments done and went back to the car to retrieve the bike. The big guy who had been sitting at the front desk and computer took my bike and went to mount it so he could work on it. I walked back there to further explain exactly what I needed done. He raised the bikes seat height so he could mount it but at first I didnt know why he was adjusting the seat height, so I told him that actually the seat would have to be lowered even more than how it was when I brought it in to accommodate my sons size. The guy looks at me and says Do you want me to work on your bike?. I was taken aback a bit by the rudeness, so I said Yes, of course. Then he said he had to raise the seat so he could mount it. OK, makes sense, but obviously there is a much nicer way to say that. After that, I started to tell him that I just needed the front brakes disc centered and also needed both brakes to be adjusted and tightened. He says to me Im not really listening to what youre telling me. Im just gonna do what we normally do here. Exactly what he said. Again the rudeness and also hes apparently a mind-reader because he already knows what needs to be done without me even having to tell him. I said nothing more and walked back to the front of the shop. He continued talking, saying that hes been a bike mechanic for 20+ (maybe it was 30+) years so he definitely knows what hes doing. Except that me trying to tell you why Im there is in no way a challenge to your professional abilities....right?! By this point, this guys attitude had started to really bother me, I decided that this was the last time Id do business there, and I noticed that neither of the other two customers caught any flak while they were there. Also, let me point out that I was nothing but very friendly the whole time I was there and never even showed the slightest bit of irritation with this guy. As for the quality of work itself, it seems that he did satisfactory work on the bike. So far so good, although its only been one day. Im not taking issue with the quality of work though. So, in conclusion, Id just like to say that this was my second and final time of doing business with this shop. Nobody needs to be treated rudely and be condescended to when they are paying good money to a business. You cant treat someone that way and expect them to be a repeat customer. Its really too bad considering my first visit in 2016 had been so positive. Theres another bike shop much closer to my home and Ill be using them next time. Id like to say two things directly to the owner of this shop: First, if you dont talk to that guy about his customer service skills I bet youll find out how much of a favor he does you in helping you retain loyal customers! Second, doing quality work is not enough to make a successful business. In other words...treating customers well is....yes, important!! Seems like COMMON SENSE to me.....Finally, let it be noted that everything Ive written here is 100% accurate. I do not lie, do not exaggerate, and I have an outstanding memory.

Amazing bike shop! Friendly, fast and honest service. They got my bike in at 5pm closing time, and it was ready the next day in less than 24 hours! Merritt was super friendly and professional. I called in to see if he could replace 2 tires for me and received excellent service. I thought that I would have to come back on another day to get my bike. I was able to pick my bike up within 2 hours and was able to ride today before the rain started. Support his business! Took a look over my bike that I had sloppily put together and tightened everything down. Seemed like a really chill place, nice owner.

Stopped by yesterday with a friend just to show her some options she has with getting a new bike and we had an excellent experience. Merritt, the Owner, helped us out with showing us what the current inventory was and even took an extra step in showing some additional options to us. Talked a little bit about the stores history and their most recent engagement with donating over 400 bike to go across seas. My friend ended up finding the type of bicycle that she wanted and Merritt even worked out an affordable price. All and all, great experience, customer service and great staff!

I have a Yeti and no local dealer to service. Was having problems with it so I called them to ask if they could work on it on a Saturday I was passing through town. The owner is the master mechanic and he had plans on Saturday (very understandable) but they offered for me to drop it off then meet me half way to return it on some other day using their service motor bike they use for come-to-you service. Great shop - good people.

This review is literally 8 years past due.. I have been coming to this shop since I was a freshman in 2010. I ride fixed and used to deliver downtown for jimmy johns. I have gone to shops like trek, performance, bicycle chain (chapel hill/durham area), but none have been as consistent or fair. The owner, Merritt, really knows his stuff and wants you to be able to enjoy your ride. All my favorite accessories and components came from here, and I hate buying bike stuff online. If you need something picked up or ordered, try checking here first. If you need work done, I recommend this place. Taking your bike to a shop is like taking your car to a shop, once you find that place that treats you right, you are a little reluctant to trust other people with working on it.

I went to Recycles today and got the best service! The guy who was working made some adjustments to my bike & didnt charge me anything at all!!! So happy :) My bike is too! I will definitely go back & I highly recommend this shop!

I have to come on here and praise this bike shop. I have five kids and all of them have bikes. Three of them boys and let me tell you, they are rough on those BMX type bikes. Every time I come here, Im being followed by at least two boys with their broken bikes. Now personally, theres no way I could possibly afford the regular tune-up for each of my kids bikes every time they break them. The owner and staff understand that and appreciate / respect my circumstances. They have always done their absolute best in keeping my cost down, and have never let any of my boys bikes leave the shop without the full going over, including tightening the chains, lubing where needed, using spare parts from junked bikes, etc. Thats called taking care of your local, regular customers, understanding their specific needs, and doing your best to help them out. Minus a star because the bike was quite a bit late due to things the bike shop owner could not control, but he went out of his way to deliver my bike personally afterwards and the work was well done and clean. I greatly appreciated his manner and willingness to accommodate when he was able.

Wellll....Ive been to every bike shop repeatedly and repeatedly for the past 16 years since I moved to GSO from the great NW. Quite a few are not around anymore....I can say Recycles will be around for as long as they want.Owner is super duper down to earth. Can communicate with pros or beginners on the same level...the best guy to deal with I have found out a little late in my game, but so glad I found him.Fixed my SS wheel needing spoke and more in 2 hours on a busy day...when the orig. time to pick up was the next day...cannot do better than that.Many years ago i had come by Recy..looking for a rare fork (long headtube, 1 threadless)...and damn if they didnt dig one up. Dont know why I forgot about them at that time but I will ALWAYS go to recycles first.No pretension or attitudes here, and they know there stuff. Having ridden MTB since 1984, its good to know there is a solid bike store in gso that preaches the rocky mtn geometry (like my old brodie/kona/cove)Thanks guys...keep doing what you do.
