Really enjoyed this bakery. People were friendly and helpful. But the baked goods were even better. Really enjoyed our sausage quiche, almond croissant, chocolate croissant, and almond puff something. π€. I didnt eat it all my wife helped me a little. I would highly recommend trying this place out.
We arrived at the bakery when it first opened and there was already a line. If this happens to you, dont panic! Take some time to enjoy the view of the marina and know that the treats you get will be worth the wait. We sampled a variety of treats from the Hilton Head Social Bakery and while they were all amazing I am going to focus the majority of this review on the Almond Croissant. The almond croissant was truly incredible and something I will dream about for months. The pastry was crispy and flaky and was elevated by the amazing almond filling. The almond filling was butter but still carried the almond flavor. I can only describe it as some of the best butter you have ever had enhanced with almond essence. (If they sold this filling in a jar I would buy it all up). The almonds on top of the croissant were nicely toasted and brought another layer of warmth and crunchy to the dish. All the croissants we tasted were amazingly crispy and light and the fillings were delicious. The chocolate pistachio croissant was full of filling and I loved the combination of sweet chocolate and salty pistachios. The pastry to filling ratio is the best I have ever experienced in a croissant. You wont have that moment where you bite into a croissant and have to check to make sure you didnt get a plain one. My recommendation is to get the almond croissant and another treat as well so you can appreciate the artistry and flavors that go into the Social Bakerys creations.
If you find yourself on HHI, HHS MUST be one of your very first welcoming points! Who wouldnβt love cuddling up to one of these ABSOLUTE MASTERPIECES?! I know my family sure does! The incredible utter mastery of layer upon layer of quality ingredients can only be outdone by the immense amount of genuine love crafted into every single item coming out of Philippeβs kitchen! I know we travel nearly 1000 miles on multiple occasions not only to say hi to Philippe & his wonderful HHS family but to also see what NEW, FRESH & TOP NOTCHED WIZARDRY is gracing the bakeryβs shelves! We even had the recent pleasure of meeting new friends in the morning and their eyes were just like ours almost as an excited child heading into a toy store of deliciousness! Thank you, Philippe, for your unparalleled service, your unwavering commitment to superior customer service through your excellent staff, phenomenally sourced ingredients, your hospitality to new and regular customers alike, but for most of all being a genuine person who is able to share your passion of delectable treats in the most humblest of ways. Youβre a REAL GEM & We Canβt Wait For The Future First Timers of HHS to meet you, too!
Very friendly staff and a great selection of bakery items. Anything that your heart desires, they have it. My daughter had a banana and chocolate croissant, it was delicious! My wife had the strawberry rhubarb pie, also wonderful. My wife had a mocha that was nice, the only small ding is that my coffee and my daugthers hot chocolate were not as good as everything else. The location is also nice, it was cool looking at all the different boats/yachts that are docked at the marina. Stop by if you like delicious baked goods!
This is the first time I ordered from here. I found this place on Google and I am glad I did. I ordered my sons first birthday cake and the chef did an amazing job. Every single person who had the cake went for seconds and could not stop talking about it. I am not a chocolate fan but even I loved it. I can honestly say its the best cake I have had. Make sure to get your cake from this place you wont be disappointed. Will definitely order and try more stuff from here. Thanks a lot for the amazing cake.
Went here this past weekend while on vacation because it was highly recommended, and it did not disappoint. We got croissants for breakfast, which were amazing, and I got some macarons to go. These are easily some of the best macarons Ive ever had in my life. We will definitely return here the next time were in the area.
Accidental discovery. After a meal at near by restaurant, while looking for a coffee, stumbled upon this sinfully place. The variety of sweets and coffees..yum yum. Just look at the photos. Service is great..they know you are overwhelmed so they allow you time to look and pick and offer suggestions. Great experiance overall.
The best quiche Ive ever had!! Get there early, a line forms before it opens, but its worth it. My kids loved the giant blueberry muffin and cinnamon roll. My quiche came with a side salad that was excellent. Dont forget the coffee-- the iced latte was delicious. You can tell that everything here is made under the eye of an expert. Easy to find in the plaza. Outdoor seating available. Only 6 people allowed inside at a time due to the pandemic (I appreciated this), but the line moves fairly quickly. Scenic views of the harbor while your wait. A must-see place in Hilton Head!
Great selection and outstanding service! The nice staff person was able to make me a vegan hot chocolate with oat milk and a bit of simple syrup (usually made with chocolate and a hot cocoa mix but excluded the mix because not sure it is vegan). Plenty of non-dairy milk options available: almond, coconut, soy, and oat. Mom had a coffee chocolate chip scone which she loved. Would recommend this place!
I swear I come here at least once a week nowadays and I donβt even live directly on the island. The presentation of the baked goods alone is enough to make you think youβre on the Food Network. I have never seen such beautiful, creative pastries. They taste just as good as they look, if not better. I always get the Strawberry Rhubarb pie, Grandmaβs Apple Tart, and the Elephant Ear cookies. Thereβs like 3 ingredients in the elephant ears and yet they taste AMAZING. The people here work hard.Be aware that if you plan on coming here, donβt have any plans soon afterward because there is always a line and you will have to wait for a good 15-20 minutes before ordering depending on what time you get here. The shop isnβt huge so there is no conceivable way for tons of people to fit in there. This isnβt a complaint but just a heads up for anyone who wants to come.
They made a replica of our wedding cake with a fruit filling not otherwise listed on their website. We obviously really appreciated that and the cake was delicious, but they including a layer of chocolate which we had discussed not wanting on the cake. Picking up the cake everything they had in the shop looked awesome too. Bummed about the chocolate, but weβll be back.
Go. Now! We were visiting from Colorado and needed something sweet so we googled this place. It may be the best bakery I have ever been in. I typically donβt like lemon but the lemon custard and chocolate tart changed it all. We tried several tarts and they are amazing! Super friendly and the coffee is amazing! Finally a good latte. We will be back. Tomorrow and every day until we leave.
Unbelievable baked goods, have to be The best around. My favorite was the Manhattan eclair, but the others we bought we stellar. Guaranteed to satisfy your sweet tooth (teeth).Service was great; quick and kind.We even picked up a treat for our four legged baby :) If you havenβt checked this place out, do so!
The BEST almond croissant. If I suddenly developed an almond allergy, I would happily stab myself with an Epipen every morning just to be able to come eat one of these things.(The newspaper article on the wall from when he was chef at Windows on the World, in the North tower of the original World Trade Center, is worth a glance).
This is an awesome little bakery! The atmosphere is very nice the shop has a nice vibe. The coffee is excellent, the pastries are amazing, and everything else looks so good. We will definitely be back here every time were in HH. We were greeted with a smile and very friendly service. Id normally recommend a specific item or two to try but I couldnt even decide what to get. Go with friends, get a variety and try everything! Theres limited seating inside but you can sit outside when its nice out. They also have dog treats for your little friends π
Amazing as always. White chocolate mocha latte, ham and swiss croissant for breakfast..Raspberry Macarons to go!! Visit every trip!
This bakery is a hidden gem on Hilton Head! The almond croissants are amazing! Looking for a yummy snack, a light lunch or even an after dinner dessert, this is the place to go. The owners Marissa and Philippe are there daily and are some of the nicest people you will ever meet. A visit to HH isnβt complete without a stop by the Social bakery!
Love this place but donβt love them being closed Monday & Tuesday. We always look forward to stopping in but often miss patronizing this local business on our stays because theyβre closed two weekdays in a row. Disney resort stays full to max capacity almost the entire year and it is literally right next door. The line here is very long in the morning. There is only one for both food and coffee so it moves slowly. Great place to stop in if youβre here on other days. Great desserts, baguette, croissants and coffee. We missed their open days this week again.
Oh, HHSB, I had such high hopes for you. A delicious French bakery, I accepted the line in exchange for a five star experience. I mean, why else would someone wait 30-45 minutes in line outside? No greeting from any of the four staff behind the counter. I started with my coffee order so they could get it started and have it ready when we were checking out. There were four staff servicing one customer at a time due to limited capacity so they had plenty of hands to get through the waiting line as fast as possible. Wrong, the coffee order was forgotten and we ordered our variety of goodies. All the while only dealing with one employee, and a second on the register. What was the point of the other two employees? All the while the cashier hadnβt paid attention to what we ordered and acted weirdly smug while asking us to repeat our order. After paying a Hilton Head premium on the coffee and pastries and waiting for our order, we sat and enjoyed the view of the bay while eating small, under flavored, mediocre pastries and McDonalds like coffee. Not worth the wait, beyond overrated, overpriced, and arrogant, lazy staff to boot. They earned their one star today.
Absolutely zero complaints. This bakery rivals all others! Definitely be prepared to wait in a line (totally worth it!). We were pleasantly surprised with the large selection still left at 10 AM. Beautiful location and super nice staff.
This is the best cheesecake Ive ever had from a shop before. Everyone working was doing a great job and they were all very friendly! Im so glad I stopped by.
We enjoyed our chocolate croissant and bacon quiche. Great view and ambience.
Traveled to Hilton Head for a vacation and was happy to find somewhere that was reminiscent of a coffee shop in NY. I got a tea with oatmilk, my usual, which I had to make myself but the coffee drinks were made by the workers. The cup tops had coffee on them, the water could not get hot, not one worker wore a mask. After drinking the tea I got sick and later threw up. I dont think Ill be coming here again.
Really great little French bakery with great coffee. Nice marina view just outside of the Disney resort, close to some shopping, water tours, and parking including some limited EV charging. They do have a Cafe breve, one of my favorite coffee beverages. Scones, pastries, sweet and savory options.Definitely worth checking out.
Yummy end to our HHI vacation. So many options to choose from.
This spot was one of the highlights of our trip. We found it by the good reviews online and stopped for lunch. Our family of 4 had lunch firstβcroissant sandwiches and the most amazing hot dog I have ever seen! And then...dessert. To be honest, the desserts arenβt cheap, but they are sooo worth it.We each had something different, and none of us went wrong with our selection. Between edible gold leaf and traditional French style baking, it felt like we were sitting in a cafe in Paris.
Read the reviews, this place is a must stop for anyone vacationing in Hilton Head. The owner is amazing as she explained all of what they offer. From croissants to brioches to macaroons to french bread theyve got it all. Loved my chocolate Bluff and the wife loved her Kiss on the Beach. The environment is great with the Marina.
Quick stop to grab some croissants. Wow they were so flaky and buttery. Definitely worth a try!
Being raised in Europe a majority of my youth and remembering the times Iβd walk with my Grandfather to the bakery in France every morning, this definitely hit a spot for me in my heart. The smells and tastes brought me back. We had family with us on our visit to Social and combined we spent close to $150 and tried some of everything and it was all excellent and spot on. This was authentic hands down.
It was amazing! One of a kind place. Everything tastes delicious and looks perfectly beautiful! Will definitely go back!
Iβve been to this bakery a few times & loved everything Iβve ever gotten! My favorites are the croissants, but I just recently tried the blueberry tart on Wednesday, & Iβm inlove! I donβt see it on your menu, so if itβs limited time please keep it permanently! Seriously one of the best pastries I have ever had in my life! We donβt get to come often so fingers crossed yβall will still have it when I come next!
Unfortunately I ate my pastry so fast I forgot to take a photo!! However, wow this is amazing. Even as busy as they were Chef took a moment to come out and answer some questions. While I could not taste everything itβs almost impossible to choose but choose you must! I doubt thereβs anything bad in the place. Itβs small and can get very busy with only 6 customers allowed at a time but sitting on the water having a snack is the best. Must stop place if you are close by.
Pure teenage β*itchinessβ. I know it is hard to find good help, but you have got to better than these two. They obviously do t want to be there, it is obvious in their lack of customer service. Very disappointed.
Highly recommend this bakery!! I sent them a picture of an inspiration cake to make for my grandmothers 90th birthday in the shape of β90β and this is the masterpiece they created! It is a macaroon cake and across the 15 people who ate it, all said it was the best βcakeβ they have ever had, hands down! It was delicious, thank you!!
Ive had 4 life changing experiences: marriage, the birth of my 2 children and this dessert.
I am a huge fan of croissants and this is the best Iβve ever had by a long shot! Their flavored croissants were great, but please for the love of everything order a plain butter croissant and it will change your life! I live a two hour drive away and am constantly fighting urges to drive down just for them! Their locations is also spectacular as theyβre right on a marina surrounded by beautiful, enormous yachts! I had a very lovely and quiet breakfast sitting on a bench enjoying breathtaking food and views!
This bakery is absolutely amazing!! We ate here 5 times last week on vacation (yes I said 5 times π€£). Everything we had here was absolutely amazing, it wasnt too sweet, the chocolate croissants and the Salmon Croissants were my favorite. Also the bread was so amazing, soft inside and a perfect crunch on the outside. You have to stop by the Social Bakery!!
The best almond croissant Ive ever had... and I lived in France for two years. One of the best bakeries Ive ever been to!
Incredible, authentic, and the real deal. Weβve tried the Chocolate Croissant, Chocolate Almond Croissant, Chocolate Lovers Tarte, and Chocolate Napoleon... and all were fantastic! We went early one day and late the next, and there was always a good variety. Highly recommend!
You HAVE to visit this place if you come to HHI! The desserts are absolutely delicious and the staff is super friendly! They also have amazing gluten free options!
By far the best french bakery with a culinary heart touch. We come here every year when vactioning at Hilton head. We are always greeted with friendly smiles and a warm bonjour! Great pastries and a lot of choices to feast on with the family! We will keep coming back for more and to try every pastry eventually! My favorite is grandmas apple tart warmed up, yum!
Probably one of the best bakeries around if not the world. And thats no exaggeration. The quiche was delicious and the side salad, with arugula and spinach and homemade dressing, is to die for. Now to get to the fruit berry tart and tiramisu. The fruit was fresh and the custard was just sweet enough. The tiramisu was very good (I didnt taste lol that was my friends choice). But the real difference was the server at the bakery. She was so nice and helpful and friendly. Stop by if youre in the area. Its worth it.
This place was a fantastic stop on our way to Hilton Head Island! The food was authentic, atmosphere was unique and bartenders were lovely. They also have a ton of gluten free options including Delish GF pita bread with Zaβatar. Highly recommend it!
So so so so good! Stopping back on our way out of town.
So after dinner, we decided we needed something sweet. I found this bakery at Shelter Cove which I was surprised to find opened until 9 PM on a Wednesday evening. Its a little hard to find, but its in Harborside Building one and the entrance is dockside.I was surprised that they had quite a few items left, but those were all the refrigerated ones. Daily baked goods were mostly gone although while we were there they were bagging Biscottis. My wife had a chocolate croissant and I had a Dark Cherry tart. Everything in the case was decorated nicely, sort of like you would find in a fancy pastry shop. Prices were just a little north of high with most items from 6 to 8 bucks. We ate them after we got home and I thought the tart was tasty, but not the best Ive ever had...would prefer more intense flavors. Nicely decorated. Wife loved the chocolate croissant. So minus one star for one item and 4 big stars for a very fancy pastry shop in good olde HHI.
Located on the harbor side of Shelter Cove Marina, the bakery is found once you park in the lot across the plaza and walk past the huge maritime sculpture toward the water. I was curious about its strange name until we entered the bakery snuggled in along the marina next to a seafood restaurant.Bakery: delicious display of breakfast, lunch and dessert items, plus self-serve coffee bar. I can personally attest to the mouthwatering blueberry tart and banana bread pudding. Must return to try the breakfast quiche and grab a pastry-wrapped veg and meat-filled lunch treasure for the beach cooler.Social Inside: friendly staff and warm cozy displays to make foodies rejoice.Social Outside: long shaded counters with bar-height stools facing the harbor make this a spot to sit, sip and savor peaceful water views
Tasty. People should wear masks inside.
This place alone is worth a visit to Hilton Head. One of the finest bakeries Ive ever visited- and while on vacation on HHI I visited many, many times. Incredible quality, pleasant staff, and a perfect location. Bonjour yall.
We think its the best chocolate almond croissant ever!
This is a MUST stop if visiting HHI. Amazing quiche and pastries. Visited once and had to go back again. Great view of marina while enjoying breakfastm
Great service and A+ bakery treats.
Absolutely wonderful desserts and friendly staff, you will not be disappointed.
Delicious tarts, good coffee, very nice staff. The prices are high, but you get what you pay for.
Every time we are on the island we visit (sometimes multiple times) the Hilton Head Social Bakery to pickup breakfast and dessert pastries. You cannot go wrong with any of their croissant varieties (regular, chocolate pistachio, chocolate raspberry) and their desserts could sit in a French patisserie. The staff is always friendly and we appreciate the COVID precautions they are taking (enforcing masks, 6 people at a time, hand sanitizer outside the door)!
Got my wife a birthday cake from here And it was the best cake Ive had in my life. Also got quiches in the morning and some other pastries, all of which were delicious.
The bakery made the most incredible special occasion pastry for my husbandβs 35 year work anniversary at Kelloggβs. The βmasterpieceβ was delicious.
Best Pastries on the Island, ask Chef Phillipe about his head waxing/polishing regimen
Went in and ordered a dozen pastries. The sweet ones were definitely better than the savory; the chocolate tart, key lime brulee, and the berry cheesecake were the best. The real star was the smoked salmon croissant. The croissant was light and flaky and the salmon was excellent.
Great food I had Andouille sausage quiche. Was great.
Visited here today with family. There were 8 of us! We enjoyed the delicious quiches and pastries! Everything was so elegantly and artistically crafted. We savored every bite. We felt very comfortable as employees wore masks and let a few people into the bakery at a time insuring safety by social distance. They had someone at the door to direct people in and answer questions! We will definitely be back as everything was excellent!
Super friendly staff and even better food!!!
We ordered 2 chocolate croissants, 1 regular croissant, and 1 pain suisse aux chocolat. We ended up with 3 chocolate croissants in the bag.Utterly incompetent.I was really looking forward to the pain suisse. They dont deserve my business, nor yours.
So glad we found this bakery. Their selection is amazing and everything we got tasted great. They even had the cutest dog cookies outside for pups. Highly recommend and canβt wait to go back!
Absolutely perfect! New favorite go to!!!
Super tasty! A little pricey for an every day breakfast, but well worth it as a special treat. We enjoyed the roasted vegetable fougasse, along with an almond croissant and lattes. The two of us split the food and were more than full for our bike ride back to the house. Highly recommend!
Always fantastic pastries! Try the hazelnut crepe croissant.
Super delicious & indulgent real French pastries. Fresh ingredients. Rich flavors. You must try the tarts :)
Best ham and cheese croissant
This is the best bakery we have found in north or south carolina. Wish it was closer to us!!!
We frequent this bakery every year during our annual family Christmas vacation. My sisters and I canβt wait to wake up and walk here with our hubbies for coffee and bfast. Not only are the offerings beautiful, but they taste fantastic! Ham & Swiss croissants, asparagus mushroom quiche, blueberry muffins, cinnamon rolls, chocolate croissants, loaves of bread, dense flourless chocolate desserts, and coffee. These are the items we enjoyed this year and I was upset I couldnβt get in one more visit before leaving the island. Relaxed setting, friendly people. Thank you for your amazing work and kindness!
We have traveled all over the world and always seek out pastry shops in our travels. This was equal to many of the best we have visited. And of course the chef was from France. Each pastry was a delight. Hazelnut croissant, almond croissant, mango-peach turnover, cherry-pecan tart, a chocolate and pistachio creation called The Graduate, 5stars all.
I dont think they even have an expresso machine. The pastry was nice, but the latee was not even up to Starbucks standard.
Best on the island, hands down. Great owners and staff do everything they can to provide an enjoyable experience. The pastries are like art. Great COVID policies in place. Pleasant atmosphere to enjoy your morning coffee.
Delicious! Great food, coffee, and fabulous service!
