Like good scotch, quality work takes time. There are steps that must be followed. So you didnt get your guitar fixed YESTERDAY?We are fortunate to have such a skilled and attentive craftsman in Texas.I just wish he would move to Austin! haha

Took my Gibson Les Paul in to get the headstock / neck refinished. It had been broken years before and poorly refinished... was sticky and difficult to play (and look at). I brought it here, and even though it took a few months, Pace Guitar really delivered. The neck is practically brand new, it plays fantastic and looks amazing. Im thrilled result. See before/after pics. .

I brought a 1987 Ramirez 1a classical guitar to Pace Guitar Repairs to have the fret board sanded and all new frets. I told him there was no hurry, but it still only took two months. This is a professional classical instrument which sells for over $11,000 new. And now it looks and plays like new again! Thanks again Ron,Doug

Brought in two guitars and it took months to get them back. Disorganization. Its like too much on the plate and then chaos to boot. Poor quality workmanship. One guitar is good. One guitar is unuseable due to bad saddle replacement and will have to take it elsewhere as i cannot wait another month or two to get it back. Very disappointing.

Totally satisfied. I bought a cheap bass because I was getting that itch to start playing bass of all a sudden. Unfortunately I can only afford a cheaper $200-something bass for budgeting reasons. The basss action was too high and this dude did exactly what I wanted to do with it. He adjusted the action perfectly and now the action is great. He is a very like-able person as well. His dog was also awesome (it seemed like a rare breed or something). I highly recommend this dude !

Ron Pace does outstanding work. A true artist. 10/10 would recommend to anyone that needs any kind of work on their guitar. I brought in my SG Gibson for a standard setup and he went ahead and adjusted the angles of my pickups (very difficult to do!), adjusted the saddle and bridge according to my tuning, string gauge, and style of playing. I couldnt be more pleased with the workmanship. My SG sounds sexy as hell.

Review №12

Wow! I am extremely happy with the work Ron Pace has performed on my Gibson SG faded. I bought the SG several years ago and had it setup twice by another luthier. The instrument still played horribly after the second setup. It always went sharp no matter how light my touch between the nut and the 3rd fret. I almost never played the SG and considered selling it until a friend with an arsenal of Gibsons and Fenders recommended Ron. . . . said he was the best luthier in Houston. Rons setup was a vast improvement from previous luthiers. I was so pleased with Rons work that I returned to Ron for a second time for some custom fret work and replaced the humbuckers for Seymour Duncan P90s, so my SG would better accommodate my playing style. All I can say is that the final product is outstanding!. I highly recommend Pace Guitar Repair.

I went to Pace for the first time today and dropped off an old Gibson for re-fret. What a genuinely nice man! I just happened to be at his door when he pulled up and even though it was his day off he still took my order.I am really looking forward to the end result. I have a feeling he will be seeing a few of my guitars soon! Oh and his prices are good as well!Update! Picked up my 69 ES-335 approx 3 weeks later and it was a very well done job! While working on my guitar it was also discovered that my bridge had sagged, common on this type of bridge and after contacting me this was replaced as well.Highly recommend Pace Guitar Repair!

Just got 3 guitars back and all 3 got new stainless steel frets. These guitars are amazing. I have 2 others that he has already done with stainless and every single one comes out unbelievably easy to play while to me have more sound to work with. If you have never thought about stainless, give it a try. These guitars truly play how you dream your guitar played. Also when I got home I noticed all the little things that Ron fixes or just cleans up. There might be places that are cheaper but there is no one in Houston (or Texas and beyond for that matter) that does better work. If you wonder how good a guitar can be or how professional guitarists guitars play then you owe it to yourself to at least let Ron do one guitar for you. It will change how you look at all your other guitars.

Ron has done great work set up for me so far. He set up my LP custom and did really great work on a Strat lipstick. He is a little slow compared to his estimated time but the small delay was well worth it. If you need it quick you better make it clear, just as you would with anyone else.

Absolute worst experience I have ever had with a business of any kind.I dropped off a guitar to have a neck reset performed. I was provided with an estimated turnaround of three months and a cost of $390.00. It took THREE YEARS and it was only finished within that three year timeframe because I advised Mr Pace, that I was moving and needed the guitar back regardless of whether he had finished it or not. Once he realized that I was serious and he stood to lose the money, & that he had no more time to make false promises and just let my guitar collect dust in a corner of his workroom, he finished it within the week. But, the story doesnt end there...When Mr. Pace called to advise me that he had finally finished the repair, he had tacked on an additional $300.00 to the original price!!!!!!! Now he wanted $690.00 for the work!!!I was livid. I said, with all due respect, you have had my guitar for 3 years! AND the original was $390.00. He hemmed and hawed and said that he had to do additional fretwork to make everything right. I told him I never agreed to any of that and then he begrudgingly said that he understood that and that he would knock off 100 bucks for the inconvenience. You heard me right. He did additional work without my consent and then said I had to pay for it!!!NEVER GO TO THIS GUY TO HAVE WORK DONE!!! Go to Neil Sargent on Washington Avenue. Neil is honest and does the job right and will tell you up front everything you need too know, and he will not be duplicitous and lazy. unlike Mr Pace. Go to Heights Guitar Tech. Go anywhere, but do not go here!!!I repeat, go anywhere but do not go here!

My son has a Gibson Fort Knox which took a fall cracking the neck and adding some not so minor blemishes to the body. We took it to Ron to work some magic. It took him a good while but well worth the wait. He fixed the obvious and also touched up the not so obvious. He setup the guitar to rock star performance and my son is very happy!

I have used Ron Pace for 15 years, and he has done extensive work on my high-end acoustic guitars. He is the most experienced in the city and significantly less expensive than the other reputable shops. Be prepared for him to have your gear for 2-4 weeks and to not always get an answer to a phone call, but rest assured its worth the wait! Hes absolutely trustworthy and guarantees his work.

Took my Strat in and had a complete setup done, and swapped the pups out. He asked when I needed it back and I told him no rush and got it back in two weeks. Ron answered all my questions and it was like an hrs worth. I couldn’t be happier with the price and quality of the work done. No need to go anywhere else. Ron is my guitar guy now. He was always extremely personable and professional. Even when I called to check on my guitar. Not to mention I’ve never felt this Strat play so easy and sound so good. Should have done it years ago. I’m bringing the rest of my guitars to Ron next week. I guess I’ll end by saying thanks Ron your the man!!!!

I can honestly say Ive never seen anyone so unprofessional as this guy. I took my guitar to put in a battery box. I took it in April 2014 and after a month passed I called and he hadnt even started working on it. 5 months passed (after me calling several times) I got my guitar that had noiseless pickups now with a horrible buzz. I will never take another instrument to Pace.

I am surprised at all of the negative reviews. Ronnie has set up four guitars for me now and I have been super happy with the results every time. Yeah, its a little off-putting when you walk in and there are guitars and cases all over the place, and his desk looks like a bomb just blew up on it, but hey, its not a River Oaks flower shop, its a guitar repair place. Every time I go, I explain to Ronnie what I want done, and how I Like the action set up, and he gets me, apparently, because he has always been right on the money. He quotes a price and has always made me the offer that if I dont like the result, bring it back and he will correct it for no charge while I wait. Never had to take him up on it yet. Price has also always been fair, considering the quality of the work I have gotten back.I hope he stays around for a good long time, because I really dont want to have to find someone else I can trust like I trust Ron.

Took my custom acoustic Martin with amp plug-in to get the binding re-done while it was still under warranty from the manufacturer more than 5 months ago. He told me hed have to dismantle it and glue it again. I thought because of his many years of experience that he would have it done in no time. Estimated time was a month, but Ive yet to even get a proper estimate as to when I can expect it to be finished. I call every month to check the progress and they keep telling me the lacquer is still drying, and that theyll call me when theyre finished. DO NOT GO HERE. Just take it to a professional who doesnt work out of a cluttered house.

Ive taken a few guitars to him to have various work done, and the wait time is ridiculous. The last time, I took an SG to him to simply be set up, and I waited about 3 months and kept calling to follow up, and they never returned my calls. I finally went to his house/shop to just get my guitar back, and the entire time him and his wife/worker (whoever she is) were constantly telling me how Im wasting their time, going back and forth making me feel like Im an idiot and in the wrong. Im literally standing there in the middle of their living room, and him and his wife are on both sides of me taking turns throwing insults at me. I couldnt believe this. And when I finally got my guitar back, they told me that if I wouldve brought a case with it, the turn around time wouldve been much faster. What the hell does that have to do with anything?? Learn simple customer service Pace guitar staff! I will never give them another cent of my money.

Ive been inducted into three Music Halls of Fame - two in Louisiana and one in Texas. In 1955 I started a band and called it THE BOOGIE KINGS. I put my self through school playing music. Im very particular. I cant remember ever having to take my guitar back to Ron Pace because he forgot to do something or didnt do it right. In my opinion, his shop is the best.Doug ArdoinBoogie Kings

Don’t let the negative reviews scare you, ron does the best work in the houston area; oh, he’s also a great guy. i’ve had many guitars done by ron—refrets, custom bone nuts, custom saddles, pickup installation, and not to mention the best setups i’ve ever had. i live in austin and make a trip to houston just to use ron. speaking of austin, i left a guitar at ron’s for 3 years because i hadn’t gotten a chance to make it back to houston, and ron was nothing but gracious and patient with me in getting it back. (he was also cracking jokes with my girlfriend who ended up getting it for me, so the whole experience of getting my guitar back was flawless. he could’ve been a jerk to me or my girlfriend, but he wasn’t).all in all, take your guitars here. don’t be an amateur, though. don’t whine. don’t feel entitled. be kind, pay it forward, and trust ron with your guitar.

So my new fretless bass needed some basic bridge adjustments that i couldnt do at home. Ron Pace not only picked up my late night phone call but set up a prearranged time for me to come by and drop off my bass. he had it for 2 hours called me back and said the work had been done when i got their he had fixed not only the bridge but 2 sticky nobs and got the action super low without any buzz. I will not take any of my instruments anywhere else. would send friends/family to Ron Pace every time

Took my classical in to fix a few cracks and replace a bridge. It took 9 months (I called several times to check on progress) to be fixed and they only started working on it the last month because I told them I had to leave town in three weeks. They Charged me $200 more than the estimate on a repair job that I could have done myself. Never doing that again. I was patient throughout the whole process but this was literally the worst experience I have had with a business.

Since then I have meet several people who have simular stories and have a hard time getting this shop to own up to shotty work. Pace will NEVER touch one of my instruments again! They suck!
