As a cynical, grumpy, and constantly dissatisfied participant in a one-sided, exploitative economy, theres a lot to complain about in consumer products.Theres a crucial balance to selling higher-end bicycles. Its an item that, used wisely, can change your life. If youre constantly badgered to scale up to a more expensive bike, the service no longer feels honest or trustworthy, just opportunistic - and thats the norm. If theres too little interaction or response, it feels like they dont care. Einstein loved the bicycle for its efficient energy-to-motion ratio. So for me, a service person has to be smart, a good listener that will read between the lines on why a customer shows up to purchase a bike, and what will satisfy them using it. Zoe - the customer service person that helped us - was an uncommon example of the type of service Ive described above. She gave us professional, measured information. She was a good listener, tried to understand why we were riding, and why we were buying. She gave us pros and cons, and in the context we asked for it. I never felt pressured to look at more and more expensive bikes - and that built an trust relationship. Its wickedly hard to do, as Ive detailed here. It was the best experience Ive had purchasing a bike EVER.
I brought my bike in for maintenance and replacing the tires. Everyone was so friendly and the service was completed earlier then the estimate I was given. Also, it was very easy to make the appointment online. Also, the work was fantastic. My bike looks like I first bought it and it rides fantastic. I would not hesitate to go back to Bike Garage Indy again for any services with my bike.

Just purchased wall to wall matting, an elliptical, and a Lemond stationary bike for my home workout room. Great experience from BGI start to finish. Ben was helpful and very knowledgeable about each item. I never felt rushed or pressured. We all waited patiently for the tiles to arrive but once they came in a delivery date was quickly set, three capable guys laid the flooring, and I’m enjoying my new workout room. Every person I worked with in person and on the phone was professional, helpful, and courteous. I will gladly use BGI for future fitness equipment.
I brought a recumbent bicycle (that I had just purchased used online) to BGI for a tune up. Al did a great job of checking my bike in for service. He was very thorough and explained everything so clearly. When the tune up was finished, Al was there to explain to us everything that had been done and showed us how to adjust the bike to fit me perfectly. We appreciate his time, consideration, and expertise. We did not get to meet Chase who did a great job on the tune up. Bicycle Garage Indy, 4340 E 82nd St, Indianapolis, IN took great care of us! (Note: In the photos, the back and seat were collapsed when I checked the bike in because we had to do that to get it into the back of our vehicle! When we picked it up, Al got it adjusted perfectly and they showed us how to get it into our vehicle without having to collapse it.)
I wanted to buy a bike at my awesome local (St. Joseph, Michigan) bike store that I recently visited. They listened carefully and asked a lot of questions. They suggested the model and frame size. However, they could not obtain a bike until November at the earliest. I was sad. When I looked at the Trek website, it directed me away from my local store and to this location in Indy.I called Indy on Saturday to secure a Trek bike. They charged my credit card and said the bike was ready to pick up. I arrived just after opening the next day. Beautiful store, nice greeter, good inventory, convenient hours. I gave them my name and was given the bike a few minutes later. So far so good!I asked if they could help with adjustments or fitting. They pointed at the seat lever and said that you could use that to raise and lower the seat. Then some vague pointing at the Allen wrench screws on the handle bar saying you could make adjustments there. When I pressed for details, the answer got real fuzzy. At that point, I understood this was like buying a bike at a Target. (No offence Target, you are not a bike store). Minus two stars.A few hours after I left the store (still driving home), I received a call from the store asking if I have the bike. They were not sure where it was. I took the opportunity to provide my Target perspective. They told me to save it for the e-mail survey. Minus one star.So I arrived home and read the user manual about adjusting the handle bar. It reads, Handlebar position is important for control and comfort. You point the handlebar and the bike follows. Special tools and training are necessary to align, adjust, and torque your stem, so only your bike shop should do this. Do not attempt to make the adjustments yourself as these changes may also require adjustments to the shift levers, brake levers, and cables. So, minus another star for letting me out of the store without the handlebar adjusted.Trek corporate could have served me better if they allowed my local store to swap inventory. That would have allowed me to buy locally and to be serviced locally. In the end, however, I have a beautiful Verve 3 - and a few more miles on my car.Edit: Plus one for reaching out.
After weeks of hunting around for the perfect bike for my girlfriend, we settled on a Liv Alight 3 small. When we saw it was available, we stopped in and almost immediately were seen by a very knowledgeable employee. After a test ride, we settled in the bike. The manager at the front desk helped us through financing paperwork and the bike was ready just a few minutes later. The entire staff was kind, patient, and helpful. Everything you could ask for or expect at a top quality bike shop like BGI Indy. We’ll certainly return when the need strikes!

Frank did an excellent job explaining all adjustments and the reasoning behind each one. The process was very personalized to fit my style of biking, and my body. One size (bike) does not fit all, and Frank made sure my bike fits me. Highly recommended!
Walked the whole store twice and no one helped me as I was interested in picking up some item and possibly a new mountain bike. 2-stars because they had a good selection of mountain bikes. Wanna give this place another try.
The staff was EXCEPTIONAL!! They helped me from start to finish and made me feel like their only customer. Im a Big guy and I went in for a specific bike. (Trek Marlin 6) Initially the search did not go well because what I went in to get (based on their website) wasnt available, AND nothing would be ready til August. 🤯I thought Id be walking out disappointed and empty handed. But, the sales associate started to ask questions and pointed me to one bike left, a Giant, which happened to be somewhat cheaper than the Trek Marlin 6 that I initially wanted. I noticed that their were some differences in equipment such as NO front shocks, and thinner tires. My sales associate pointed out that I said I was intending on riding only on the Monon Trail and that this Giant would fit all my needs. He said that riding on dirt paths or trails would be the reason why Id need front shocks. He really paid attention to my intentions and real needs, vs what I thought I wanted.Because of this, I was able to test out the Giant behind the store and 2hrs later (after they checked it out in service) I was off with my new bike! (Came back to pick it up) They even helped me load it into the back of my SUV and demonstrated how to remove the front tire. At this point the gentleman helping me noticed a slight rubbing on the disk brakes and took it back in to have it adjusted, then shortly thereafter I was on my way.Its RARE these days to have a GREAT customer service experience, but even more rare when you go to a retail store and they dont have what you want in stock and they DONT try to UPSELL YOU!!!!! My sales associate listened to my NEEDS and found the RIGHT bike that fit my needs, my experience, and my BUDGET!!! I have a new bike store, and Im a loyal customer when you treat me right!!! You have my 2 thumbs up to shop here!!!
Great experience ordering a bike for July delivery. Worked with Abby W. on the purchase and it became obvious very quickly that she is a professional and she REALLY knows bikes and accessories. With 6-grandchildren, we have purchased maybe 15+ bikes from BGI over the years. With consistent outstanding service like this, it is easy to recommend this company!Below is the photo after delivery AND fitting with Frank Radakera Certified Fitter. Highly recommend the fitting process. It resulted in a few parts being traded for different ones. For example the peddles which are a great improvement.Also a shout out to Adam who helped me with the delivery. The entire experience has exceeded my expectations.

As soon as I walked in the door, Todd M walked me through all the questions I had, best advice on fitment for a new bike and objective points of view for the models available. At no time did I feel pressured and throughout I was satisfied I was being treated by an expert. Todd is a tribute to the store for sure, I came in to figure out my size for a bike I was planning to purchase on line and walked out with a much better bike and a much better feel buying in person rather than rolling the dice on an online purchase. The bicycle retailer in Indy! Nice customer service and great brands. Fischers is my fave location and the service department there is stellar. I love that I could ride my bike in a cool area designated before purchase. They build your bike rack and install onto your car also. 👍🏼
Joel is the best! Even though I couldn’t buy a bike from him because there is no inventory for the size I need, he did everything he could to find me a bike. I came back and bothered him three different times(even though he never made me feel like a bother). I told him my goals and he gathered all other equipment I needed. I trust him and knew he wouldn’t sell me something just to sell me, I really appreciate this guy, it has been a pleasure to shop with him. He’s also super fast and efficient without making you feel rushed, he really gives the perfect balance between the two.

Frank helped size me to determine the size of bike I should be looking for, then helped fit me to a bike that was on the floor and I walked out with it that afternoon! David is an amazing mechanic/customer service point! He was so thoughtful and deliberate in assessing the problem with the bike and explained everything to me as he went along. He fully repaired the brakes and at a relative nominal cost. You can tell he is passionate about biking and educating bike owners. Cant say enough great things about my experience!!!
I took two of my kids bikes here for a couple quick fixes, we were provided great and prompt service, and I was amazed how much they worked with me to keep the price low. I also took a look at a few used bikes and the used bike prices look very reasonable. I will be back to purchase a used bike for me.
BGI North did a great job finding a bike for my 7 year old daughter. Our sales associate was very patient and let her try a few different models. I am also pleased to hear of their trade-in/credit policy when she outgrows bike (if it is still good condition to re-sell). The store is always clean and the associates know a lot about bikes!
I went into BGI North this morning because the right brake lever on my Cannondale Trigger (that I bought from BGI) was broken from a collision I had with a tree. I saw how busy it was and, knowing that Covid-19 had caused a lot of people to take up cycling, I expected the turnaround time to be weeks.When it was my turn, the gentleman at the counter looked at it and said, Let me look up the part. It may be out of stock at the supplier. At this point, I was thinking, Ill be lucky to get the bike back by Halloween.One of the managers - Mark - walked by, took the bike, and started to work on it. After a few minutes, he told me to leave it with him and he will call me later in the day. At 4pm I received a call saying my bike is fixed. Mark was able to use a part he had and just charged me labor. I got my bike the same day.It is this level of personalized service that gains companies like BGI loyal customers. I am very grateful for the service that Mark and the team provided and am a loyal customer for life.

I went to Bicycle Garage Indy to get air in the tires of my Peugeot. The air hose is no longer outside of the shop. Jimmy came out and I told him that I needed air. He looked at the tires and showed me that and why both tires needed to be replaced. About 20 minutes and $80 later I was good to go. Ill be back if I ever need anything. TX Jimmy.
I am a 56 year old woman and am riding my bike across America. At first, I felt intimidated and overwhelmed, but the help that I received from Frank has been outstanding! He took the time to make sure I had the right bike and the correct fit for me. He researched and explained what equipment I would need, and he always answered my questions with patience. He truly wanted to prepare me. It wasnt about just making a sale. I know I am going to be prepared because he spent such quality time helping me select the right equipment, teaching me maintenence and offering advice. I had done the research and was ready to buy an E bike. BGI North had the best inventory and the model I wanted. When I arrived at the shop, I was paired with Ben, to assist me throughout the purchasing process. Ben was AMAZING! He went above and beyond to make sure I had the E bike which, not only fit me, but fit my style of riding. I test rode a large, which according to the “size chart”, was supposed to fit me. Ben watched me ride and asked me to try a XL, as I looked cramped on the large. I appreciated the recommendation as it was something he didn’t have to do. I was set on the large and he could have let me leave with a bike I would not have been happy riding. I would DEFINITELY recommend BGI North, if you’re in the market for a new bike.
I would have given 5 stars, but when we got home (2 hours away) we discovered that we were given the wrong charger for my new ebike. I notified BGI the next day of the issue and it was very promptly resolved. Very knowledgeable and friendly sales and service people!
Helpful danish man named alex I believe listed and informed me not only on the product (an all woman ran bike brand that fit my tall from) but also proper way to handle and ride my bike. I was basically clueless but I have already had my first commute and I am in LOVE. It fits me perfectly and is exactly what I needed in a bike.

Great selection and service. I had been trying for months to find a bike for my girlfriend. With COVID, its been tough to find anything in stock that fits her and has the parts and features we wanted in our budget. I was able to find a Liv Tempt 4, which was the perfect fit for her, and had great specs for the price. She said it was the perfect fit, and was even able to take a quick test ride to make sure. I was able to check stock online, research models, find resources for riding and repair, and make sure the bike we looked at was in stock before we headed to the store. The sales reps were extremely knowledgeable, and help check fit and form, and were able to help us with all our questions, and made sure we had exactly what we needed. I felt really reassured that we have the support we need to ride year after year. Store is amazing and well laid out, with room to test ride, and every part and accessory you could need. Service department is amazing as well, with good prices, and good availability. I will definitely be back for anything we need for our future biking adventures!

Had a great experience working with Oliver of the service department. I was returning a tire I had purchased from BGI previously (within a few months) after losing 4 innertubes to it and finding out it was the wrong size for the old Peugeot. He was happy to do a exact swap for a new identical tire of the correct size, only to find the tire manufacturer had misprinted the label. Oliver was kind, professional, and very helpful as he found me a tire that would fit, installed it, replaced the tube, and was able to refund me the difference (tires were different price). He even went the extra mile to do some minor adjustments to get me back on the trail!

As I was cleaning my bicycle today, in advance of an upcoming trip, I noticed a small chunk out of the rear tires sidewall. I called BGI and fully anticipated the answer to be sorry, we are swamped, leave it for a couple of weeks. Luckily, that assumption was wrong.The answer I did receive was Sure, bring it up. We will have you out the door in about 30 minutes. I walked in and was greeted warmly. After the technician listened to what I needed, he asked that I look around until the repair was complete. About 20 minutes later, he found me in the store and told me he was done.I could not be more pleased with the entire experience. Thank you !
BGI North is a fantastic bike shop. Ive talked to at least 7 people at this store (Customer Service, Sales, Tech/Mechanics) and all of them were friendly and knowledgable at the highest level. I had a long drive to pick up the bike, and the staff had everything ready to go for me. There were a couple of post-purchase mechanical issues with the bike, and BGI North resolved those issues quickly and courteously. A big thank you to everyone there.

Im from NJ and was visiting my sister in Indy. She gave me a bicycle but I needed to figure out how to get it home. I called BGI and they explained the process. The next day I took the bike to their shop. All the associates I encountered were polite and engaging. The bike was disassembled and shipped to me. The next time Im in town, I will stop in and make a purchase.

I have no idea how this place has a 4.9 rating. They must be boosting that up with fake posts. I can tell you first hand that this place has horrible customer service and bad selection. The service rep I worked with was not knowledgeable and made me feel pressured. Kept reminding me how hard bikes are to get. I got the same bike off Amazon for $200 less and so happy I went that route. “Free tune ups” LOL

I just wanted to thank Jimmy Rose in the service department. I had some problems with the bike after the first tune up so I returned two days later. Jimmie apologized that there was a problem and took care of the problem while I waited so I didnt have to leave the bike. He made sure everything was working properly before letting me take the bike home. He even adjusted my handlebars for me. He was friendly, competent and eager to please. Thank you Jimmy.
We purchased two bikes from here less than a year ago and have had nothing but issues with the bikes and the customer service.We were not sent a working charger (these are ebikes), the screen was broken, etc. We had to bring the bikes back multiple times. The bike just stopped working during one of the very first trips and we had to do a warranty service for it.All of that could be discounted and just a manufacturer issue if it wasnt for the extremely poor customer service. We have never received an apology for the multiple trips we have had to make, the missing items, etc. We have always been rushed, the service techs arent able to even find the bikes in their system most of the time, and a part they told me would be ready in October wasnt ready until May the following year -- 7 months later!We still havent received the USB cord that was supposed to come with the bike and no mention of it from Bicycle Garage.I would definitely not recommended this place. Unfortunately, they are one of the only dealers for ebikes nearby so they take advantage of their position.

On June 16, 2021, we arrived via car in Indianapolis with two bikes on my Thule EZ Fold XT2 bike rack. I had traveled to Indianapolis by car from NJ and my sister by plane from Philadelphia. We had 4 days of bike riding planned on the wonderful Monon Rail Trail, Indy Cultural Trail and the White River Trail.We park in the White River SP parking lot downtown and plunk down $21 in the pre pay parking meter.Then, oh no, the EZ-Fold locking knob on the Thule exterior bike arm would not unlock.I have had the Thule EZ Fold Bike Rack since October 2018 using it 3 to 5 days a week in the fall, spring and summer of each year since owning it.This was a first and quite discouraging. We had travelled this far to bike for four days and now had no bikes to ride (note at this time there were no rental bikes to be found in INDY other than the by the minute city bike rentals as most bike shops sold off their daily rental bikes during the pandemic as no new bikes could be found for purchase).We drive away losing the paid parking slot and head to Bike Garage Indy Downtown to see if they can help.Believe it was Sean who helped us. He tried and tried using a master key for the key cylinder removal and spraying the lock with lubricant. It also included his call to the Thule Help line to see if they could solve the problem. But no luck. I truly thank Sean for his tenacity to help.He recommended we consider going up to their other location Bike Garage Indy (BGI)- North as they had like a dozen bike mechanics and might have some one who could help. With the understanding that there were no guarantees.And after a brief discussion at the check out counter at BGI- North along comes Patrick and he is asked if he could take a look at our Thule Bike Rack.Patrick truly wants to help and had a dogged determination to figure out how to help us. And he stuck with it after trying a number of things.Finally, he realizes that it is likely the internal clutch in the keyed twist knob. BUT to do this he must remove the twist knob (demolish it was the only option) and cylinder lock to get to the internal clutch.It means we will need pliers to to turn the clutch.But then at least we can loosen the bike clamp and take the bikes off the car. And then ride the bikes and put the bikes back on the bike rack tightening the clutch on the bike clamp with pliers.Yes the arm would need to be replaced after driving back to NJ but was at least useable during our four days of bike riding in Indiana. And it allowed me to drive the the car home safely with the bikes fully in tact.I should note that one of the two bikes is a 55 pound e-bike which this rack was designed to handle.PS: I used some bungee cords as an added measure of safety and added a cable lock to secure the bikes now that the cylinder lock was removed.The main point here is the Bike Garage Indy Team both downtown and at BGI- North saved the day and our vacation bike trip in Indiana.Thank you Patrick and Sean. I wish you guys also had a store in Morris and Camden County NJ.

Kudos to BGI and specifically service manager Mark. He was a great help on getting the suspension setup on our mountain bike tandem. There isnt much to choose from when it comes to tandem forks and shocks. Its quite a niche market. We chose a standard Fox Float 34 SC fork and Fox Float DPS shock knowing they were not going to be valved correctly for the application. On the first ride it was obvious the suspension was too stiff. Working with Mark we concluded there needs to be less compression damping and more rebound. Mark contacted Fox to verify our assessment and give them all the info they needed to ensure quick turnaround. The bike now rides really well and is a joyous adventure every time. Thanks to Mark at BGI. He is a wealth of knowledge on modern mountain bike technology.

Wow, I love this place! I was a diehard Performance Bicycle customer for the guys at the Castleton store always treated me with respect and went out of their way to assist me, being a novice cyclist and all. Now that the Performance store is gone, I needed a new place to take my bike and I had high standards coming in. I got a late start to riding this year (2020) due to my travels, the weather, and this COVID thing. During my second ride of the year, my rear derailleur hanger broke and when it did, it snapped and the derailleur landed in my rear wheel. Since all the bike shops are very busy due to the pandemic, I struggled getting my bike in to get fixed. I ended up taking my bike to another shop, other than BGI, for they said theyd squeeze me in. They did get me back on the road within two weeks, but they merely put on a new derailleur and that was it. They didnt address my rear wheel for it needed new spokes and it needed to be trued up. I had attempted to get in touch with BGI but it was at the time they were reopening so their availability was hit and miss. However, I received an email from Toby saying hed call me to review what I needed and what they might be able to do to help. He went out of his way to assist me! After I received my bike back and noticed how untrue the rear wheel was, I needed to get my bike back in to get it properly fixed and back to riding condition. I sent Toby an email, asking for him to let me know when I might be able to get on the service list. I knew they were weeks, if not months out, but I at least wanted to get on the schedule. I then received a call from Mark and he went out of his way to get me worked into the schedule. Everyone was very nice and they went out of their way to not only listen to me, but to inform me what and how they will do the service. I actually received my bike back within 1 day! It is back in perfect riding shape! I have found my new home! I bought my current road bike and three bikes for my boys at Performance and now BGI will get all my future business! Being in the market for a second road bike, I am excited to work with BGI once inventory is replenished later this year. What a FANTASTIC experience I had here! BGI has a loyal new customer!
I know very little about bikes, except how to ride them. I went in to get service on my daughters bike and to buy a new bike for my son. The salesperson I spoke with was very helpful to me and was always mindful of the price-point I mentioned to him. BGI was prompt, both in getting the one bike serviced and getting the other ready for pickup. I was very pleased with my overall experience at BGI.
Assisted me even when we came in an hour before they closed! Let me ride however many bikes I wanted and serviced the bike of choice all within that hour! 10/10 recommend.
Really friendly and knowledgeable staff! Bernie helped me find the right bike, and I was pleasantly surprised to be able to walk out of the store with it the same day!
