I personally had a terrible experience 9/1/21. I recently purchased a Lexus and then located this Japanese auto specialist. Reached out and they suggested communicating thru text. It’s 2021 cool. Started well got back with me then nothing . A month later I text again response right away the owner apologized he had an emergency. I completely get it. So we schedule an appointment with time and date for me to come in. Today I arrive at 8 am as requested thru to text only to be turned away and informed no appointment had been scheduled in the system and the parts hadn’t been ordered and wouldn’t be able to be ordered in time due to warehouse shortages. I informed the technician that I had driven an hour to the shop. With no remorse he handed me my key, didn’t try to reschedule the appointment or offer the free diagnostic. I will not be returning
I decided to go with Japanese Auto Specialist after the repairs quoted by the dealership were exorbitant. David and his team performed a comprehensive diagnostic of my car and gave me a list of items to address in order of the most important to the least. I was impressed by the attention to detail and level of knowledge and care. While the repair estimate David provided me was more than reasonable (and far better than the dealership’s quote), I decided to sell the car instead of putting more money into it since it was older and high mileage. We own another Toyota and I will feel confident bringing it to his shop for any maintenance or repair needs. This level of integrity, expertise, and service is hard to find.
You have to constantly call to find out about your vehicle. They never get back with you, David the owner I presume no people skills, his son is incapable of giving information regarding anything. Rude, demeaning David was. I had to apologize sarcastically for not being a mechanic. 8 days car sat there just to change fuel pump. Tuesday to Thursday for engine codes, which my car sat there while I went back to get a copy of the codes. Which I already had per David, the receipt.. the son failed to tell me anything attached to the receipt, his son took my payment after 8 days of my vehicle sitting there. I was supposed to guess the paperwork was diagnostics results without informing me 🤦♀️. Couldnt send emails properly, blamed technology.
Excellent Job for an Auto that was IgnoredMy daughter thought she was taking car of her, when taken to David, she wasn’t prepared for the rude awakening. David told her how to take care the car and also how to interact with a repairmen when leaving your car. I have been taking my cars to David for over 17 years and I never been disappointed. He takes the time to deliver a car to you as though he owns the car. You don’t find an independent business like Japanese Specialist.
Very meticulous with the inspection of my car. I have a 2013 Kia and it now drives like the first time I drove it off the lot brand new. The suspension and steering has not been right for a long time and I had it to other places to be fixed, but no one else could ever seem to get it right. These guys did.
Honestly its a great place to get your JDM car worked on. I had an issue with my 350Z and they took care of it. Rather quickly I might add, and it wasnt too expensive. I definitely recommend this place if you own a Japanese car and need any work done. Only issue i had was how far I had to go to get there from where Im located. Other than that fantastic service and fantastic crew.
I was referred to Japanese Auto Specialists by a couple of friends of mine. It was amazing that both of them said the same thing about this service, not knowing the other had been costumers. They used the description of honest mechanic and they werent wrong. I took their suggestion, and have been so pleased with the service I have received. It’s hard to find an honest well priced mechanic these days but Dave is definitely that. I’ve taken 3 of my cars to him and he always gets you in quick and does a great job. I’ve had a few services recommended to my by the dealership and they always get me a better price here using the same authentic parts. Their inspections are also very detailed. They found a random loose bolt causing my car to slightly rattle over bumps by taking it on a test drive and listening to it themselves. Will continue to take my Hyundai and mazda here and hopefully get a couple hundred thousand miles on them.

My 2005 Prius Red Triangle warning light came on during a trip out of town. I made it back and found Japanese Auto Specialist through the positive reviews posted. Now I know why they have ALL positive reviews! They are professional experts with any Japanese made cars. The Prius Hybrids are hard to find competent mechanics to perform diagnostics and repairs, but these guys had it figure out the same day and I had a text and email with the results and estimate of the repairs! I had them do the work and will be taking all three of my Priuss to them from now on!

Ill never again go to the dealership for service ....Ive spent thousands on having my Infiniti G35 serviced at the local dealership. Over that time, Ive been given incorrect information, paid ridiculous prices for techs who actually installed parts backwards and found cheap non-Nissan parts used in my repairs.Id finally had enough and my first experience with JAS was a real eye-opener. The problem was accurately diagnosed, my options with the pros and cons were clearly explained, the work was done right the first time using top-quality OEM parts and it cost me far less than what the dealer quoted for the exact same parts and repair.I take very good care of my cars and from now on, only JAS works on my family cars.
I called to get a quote to have the engine rebuilt in my Subaru Forester. Voicemail message said to send a text. I finally got a text three days later in reply. By then another provider in Gainesville had given me a quote and I has decided to mive forward with them.

They use a great numbering system so that you know what needs to be addressed now and what can be addressed later. I already had some ideas on what required service, and their inspection results were extremely detailed and covered everything that I knew of and more! During my last 20 years in Jacksonville I used Japanese Specialist for all of my checkups and repairs for my Honda and Hyundai. Their knowledge about foreign cars is excellent; better than youll find anywhere else in Jacksonville. For whatever repair I needed or even with routine checkups, they were very thorough in explaining what happened and what needed to be done. Theyve always been very nice and courteous. I highly recommend them.
Brought in my 2007 Mazda 3 for an oil change as a test drive of this shop. They were honest and provided a great detailed inspection report. I felt comfortable enough after talking with Dave to schedule major work. They replaced the engine and transmission mounts, and the steering control arms. (The rubber in these things break down with age). The price was reasonable and the work was perfect. They used only genuine Mazda parts. The car feels brand new. All vibrations are gone. I do most of my own work on the car, so I know how to check over their workmanship, and it is spot on. Any job that is beyond my ability will go to them.
I took my wifes 2011 Toyota Sienna to a local Toyota Dealer and was shocked when they presented me with a $2400 estimate for a new water pump..Yikes!!Called Japanese Auto Specialist. Spoke with Dave. I very much recommend going to Japanese Auto Specialist for Japanese autos. I initially went in knowing my brakes needed to be done and to get a good once over to see what kind of work my Odyssey may need. I received an email explaining everything that needed to be done, and an email for each portion of work that included an estimate and a breakdown of charges. The work that needed to be done was also rated most important/needing to be done asap to less important and potentially when the work may need to be done. When I went back to get my vehicle, all of this information was also already printed out and handed to me so I had a physical copy. Ive since gone back and had part of the work done and will hopefully be able to get more work done here in the future. Having everything broken down, the rating system, the attention to detail in everything, was extremely helpful and very professional.In my dealings with Japanese Auto Specialist, Ive found the owner to be straightforward and honest. I appreciate that he isnt pushy about getting work done and doesnt try to upsell additional work that may not even need to be done. His pricing is fair and within normal range for the auto repair industry. He makes sure to explain whats going on, and will answer questions to the best of his knowledge. If youre wondering if its a good place to go, or have read some of the not so good reviews, I suggested calling and talking to David and get a feel for him yourself. I have had previous experience with other shops that cant seem to get the fix right- not here. Had put hundreds of dollars into fixing our car with a shady mechanic. We took our car to David and within a day he called and asked if we wanted him to keep testing the car for issues since what he had found so far was already over 800 in repairs. He gave us a complete print out and everything so we had proof of what needed to be done. After we decided it wasnt worth fixing he offered to check out another car for us before we bought it. I really appreciate his Honesty and integrity. I would give him 10 stars if it went that high and i definitely recommend him and his shop.

David and his team installed a new/rebuilt engine and transmission into my 26 year old Toyota MR2 during late 2015. Immediately after getting the car back I quickly accumulated over 4000 miles driving from Florida to New Jersey (2x) as well as a spirited detour through the Tail of the Dragon in Tennessee without a single incident. Jump forward 2 years later and the car is still running rock solid. I wouldnt trust my car to anyone else.

They were the first of 3 mechanics I took my 2002 Avalon to when it recently started having accelerating issues/dragging. They road test and hook my car up to the computer giving issues with cylinders 2,4,6 in which the owner or boss determined the issue was the Catalytic Converter bank 2 needed to be replaced. When I asked him a question he made it clear to me this was based on his 45 years of knowledge and I could take it or leave it. He later sent me an email with quote of over $1100 for the repair without even opening the hood to my car. As he said take it or leave it, well Im glad I left it as 1 day later my car is running as good as new after having spark plugs, coils, vvt seloid and some other misc stuff done at another garage.
Dave and the team at Japanese Auto Spealist were fantastic. They painted and replaced my mirror and you cant even tell it was repaired. Also caught that my rear wheel bearings needed to be replaced, Ive heard a humming noise for a few months but no other mechanic could figure it out, now I can hear myself breathe.. lol. Great work for a fair price!
I went there with my cousin to check the progress on his Subaru WRX which had already been there way passed the expected completion date. We called several times beforehand to receive an update but nobody answered. As we were checking out the car and the work that still needed to be done, I spoke to my cousin in Spanish explaining that if the owner of the shop recommends the work should be done then he should trust him and pay the extra $600. At that point the owner stated very aggressively that only one language will be spoken at his shop and that if we didnt like it to get off of his property or he would call the police. Now I understand that everyone is not as accepting of other cultures as others but a little more tact and respect would of gone a long way. I served my country and to be treated like this hurts on a completely different level.
I was in this place not even 5 minutes before I realized that Im not going to have my car service there. The owner is a total narcissist and wont hesitate to tell you how much experience he has and how much he knows more than you. If I could give less than a 1 star rating I would.

They truly care about service. The front bottom of my car got caught in a rebar when I was parking in a shopping center. I was able get the rebar out but it punctured a hole in the plastic cover and pulled it out a little bit such that it was hanging down. I took the car straight to Japanese auto parts. They looked at it and said they could it fix it by fastening the plastic backup. I asked when they could do it. Knowing that I came in without an appt I figured it wouldn’t be that day. But he said to come back in an hour. So I did. They fixed it in 15mins and they wouldn’t even charge me for it! That’s service. They do things right. I wish they would have charged me but he wouldn’t let me pay. I would recommend them to anyone.
I took my car in to get checked out and to get a quote on repairs, after paying $56 for the diagnostic I picked up my Car Friday evening and when I did the VSA lights, and check engine lights were on and the car would start stalling out when it reached 3K RPM. I called 1st thing Monday to let them know of the issue and they said to bring it back in which I did that afternoon after work. They looked at it and said that they would have to charge another fee to be able to figure out why the car would stall at 3K RPM. I left and took my car to the Honda dealership where they looked at it and discovered the MAP sensor was unplugged within 5 minutes. Once plugged back in the VSA and check engine light went off and the car drove fine. I will not be going back and will be letting everyone I know about my experience, because they either did it on purpose to screw me over or they are incompetent.

Today I called the shop and spoke to Dave. Right away his voice gave me the impression that he was annoyed and overwhelmed with work, and that the last thing he cared about was a new customer. In the beginning his answers were short and terse, but when I asked a simple Yes or No question he went on for several minutes speaking in mostly technical jargon. Long story short, today they lost a customer even before I made it through the door.
Took my RX350 in for service. David was honest & accurate in his estimates & time to complete. JAS identifies needed repairs/service and those that can be deferred. I feel that I’m being treated honestly & fairly with each transaction. I’ll teturn with my other cars soon. Highly recommended.

Not what I expected. Charged for alignment but then when I called because alignment was off they said we dont do that here...[Update based on response: 1. Clearly, in my case this service was not done by anyone by the way it drove. 2. I was not given a contact to get the work corrected, I was brushed off. 3. I suspect the alignment was eyeballed and driven down the road at best. 4. I was charged for an alignment.]Its always one thing after another. Real car guy behind the counter, idk whos behind the wrench but Ive had one issue after another.(Its a three-star because its a local business with an otherwise good reputation, and Im being as fair as I can be.)
Ive gone to them for the big issues with my vehicle because I trust them. They have gone out of their way to help me out and I cant thank them enough. He has been my mechanic since 1991 & all of my vehicles have run over 300,000 miles. My current Honda has 329,000. I average 150 to two hundred miles a days a real estate agent. I recommend him to everyone!

JAS Inc. exceeded expectations by a mile. They pursued a pesky Mazda CX9 engine issue until resolved. I liked how this shop kept me informed. I like how this shop acquired extra tools to diagnose. I like how this shop kept the driver (my wife) happy for weeks. Job well done.

Called today guy who answered wouldnt even let me talk, totally unprofessional. With phone educate like that I would be damned to let them touch my car. Bunch of jerks dont waste your time.

Japanese Auto Specialist has done many jobs for my 1992 Toyota Celica Convertible. I have been very pleased with the professionalism of David and his staff. I will continue to use his services when needed.
I have always had a great job done by David and staff. I have two Honda CRVs [2001 and a 2012] and have had them serviced at every Honda dealer in Jacksonville Florida. There is always some misunderstanding of what may need to be done and what has to be done. This has never happened with David. I dont take my cars to anyone else.
