I’ve been here several times for several reasons and have had perfectly good service and good prices compared to all of Jacksonville, easily my go-to for all things car repair
Stopped by Southern Speed to get an estimate on some bodywork for my SUV and while there we ended up buying a truck for our son! the truck was not in running condition at that time so we were not able to hear it run or test drive it but Jerry told us that it was a good running truck and he would order the part that it needed and have it going in a few days. we took him at his word, gave him a deposit and Im glad we did! just as he said it was ready a few days later and we couldnt be happier! I drove the truck well over 50 miles and it did great! and our Son loves it! we will do business with them in the future and wouldnt hesitate recommending them to others!Great People..... and they are animal lovers to! that says a lot about a person all by itself! Thanks Guys
Originally took my car in to replace the timing belt, turned out that my head was cracked, my turbo was seized up and so was my alternator. I would check on my car periodically to find my engine resting on a tire on the shop floor and my cars body in the grass with the alternator in the dirt (no wonder it had seized up). I was told I would need a new head, turbo rebuild, alternator and battery. Unfortunately it would take a while before they could re-assemble my car because the employee who had taken it apart quit.I gave them a month before I EASed to have it finished and called them multiple times a week receiving the same answer “it will be done next week”. I stopped by a week before I had to leave to check out what was going on and found that it still was nowhere near done and that they had called a mobile mechanic to re-assemble it.In the end I had the wrong alternator in my car, paid for a turbo rebuild that was never done, missing parts, a cracked tail light and dented trunk lid. The car didn’t run and now that I’m home working on it myself I’m finding more and more issues.
I paid for engine upgrades to my perfectly running stock LS1 in April of 2013. In August of 2014 (yes, 2014), the completed car was limped to my home under the guise that it needed a tune. The car was untuneable, so I tore it down and found a broken valve spring, Teflon tape on the reused stock head bolts (that arent re-useable), and the oddly ground aftermarket cam was WAY too big for the stock valve springs. The lift on the cam was .635 while the stock valve springs are .472, which is why the springs bound and broke. In addition, Jerry Collins, the shops owner, told me the engine had light weight rods and forged pistons; however, the engine internals were completely stock. I took Southern Speed to court in March of 2015, won a judgment for money owed (public record), but as of this writing, still have not received the court-ordered compensation. I am now rebuilding the engine myself. Needless to say, I will not be going back to this shop.
