Updated:Upon the reply by the owner and me visiting the shop in person I want to thank the owner and his staff for their kindness and professionalism. I do now recommend this gaming store and do look forward to playing this older game there along with other games down the road.Old review:I went in today asking about an out of print card game and the person at the front counter said they didnt have it. It took me less than a minute to find some of the product on their shelf that was absolutely caked in dust and dirt. They didnt have a price tag and when I brought the items to the counter the first thing the worker did was check ebay and mark their price at $10 per pack, even though entire booster boxes sell online that price the packs for less than $2 per pack.
Having visited most of the game shops from Ogden to Provo, Game Den in Layton is probably at the bottom of my list. They have a good amount of play space and the selection is adequate, but interaction with the employees is just a roll of the dice day by day.In fact, I realized after stopping in a couple of weeks ago that Ive never had a POSITIVE interaction with an employee at Game Den, its either been neutral or negative--with one employee who is constantly either annoyed or passive aggressive when asked questions, or even to facilitate a purchase. At the end of the day, there are too many great game stores in northern Utah (2+ within ten minutes of Game Den!) to bother with middling to poor service at this location.
These guys are awesome! Staff is knowledgeable and professional. They treat the customers with respect and dont jack up prices for a quick buck.
Good organized play, good staff and selection of products.
If you are looking for a LGS (local game store) to meet up and play at, this is the place to be. The community this shop has built up is welcoming, inclusive, and focused on fun more than just competition. Even though I haven’t been to an event since the pandemic began, as soon as it’s safe, you bet I’ll be back to this shop for my weekly dose of nerd.
Game Den is a decent game store and the employee was kind, helpful, and willing to answer any questions. They have a good selection of board games and card games. However as an mtg player, I definitely wouldnt call their selection extensive and they dont have a way to search their inventory for specific cards so you either have to go by what they have in the cases for yugioh, mtg, and pokemon or search through their bulk. Side note, their tables for in store game play are currently put up and they dont let people do casual games currently (3-4-21) due to pandemic concerns.
Large area. Nice selection of board games. Lots of play space.
Selection is good, location is clean and organized, but depending on who is working as the time, service can be great or non-existent. One time when I went, worker was prompt, helpful and super friendly, helped me get everything I needed and gave me some deck building tips. Another time I went, the employee was trying to buy another customers collection for his personal use, and ignored me asking about buying things for about 40 min. I finally just left.
Went in looking for a One Night Werewolf expansion pack (which stores normally don’t carry) and the game den had about 6 or 7 to choose from. Bryce was very helpful and I’ll definitely be going back here for all my game needs!
No help and bad selection.
Great store for local purchases and competitive price matching. Always go here if I can’t find the game anywhere else.Great for playing Magic as well or any other in store events as well. I’ve never had a bad time there.
Huge price mark ups. They were charging as much or more for pokemon cards than scalpers on Facebook marketplace...
Ive been here a few times now, both events and picking up singles. The employees are all extremely stand-offish, if not straight up rude to you. I scanned the other reviews and turns out Im not the only one who thinks so. One bad experience or a single bad employee I can understand, but each time Ive been there its been the pattern.I also want to add to this that while reviewing the other reviews I noticed the store owner explained one of the bad interactions by stating that the employee had autism. That is a gross violation of that employees privacy and illegal. I hope that employee has the resources to make the complaints to the right people.
We were told a certain game was in stock, got there, and couldnt find it even with the help of a worker. They have games and items all over the place so Im surprised they can tell anyone with a certainty if they have it in stock.
Great service, even on a busy Friday night! The catalog of cards is pretty extensive too, we were able to get almost everything we were after. Friendly atmosphere, clean and organized store, not a bad place to hang out for gaming nights!
Great people. Helpful, tons of games.
These guys were able to really outfit a new player. Their open play game nights allowed him to find something he was interested in and other players to connect with. In addition, they had product for my expert gamer.
The staff is helpful and knowledgeable. I can ask them for what Im looking for and they always know if they have it, and where it is in the store.
Pretty good selection of things from magic and board games. Staff knows what they sell and where it is (not inventoried, like other shops Ive been to, but they actually know if they have.) Some of the staff is a but rude, but there are some that seem very genuine in helping you out like Aaron.. I think his name is? Lots of space for gaming and they have decent events.
The employees are very helpful and willing to bend over backwards to make sure you enjoy doing business with them. The place is clean, with lots of room for card gaming. This is the the place for dice as well! 10/10 will be back to shop again.
Lots of things to look at. Customer service wasnt very friendly though
Ive played magic at stores in over ten states across the country. This is easily my favorite store Ive been to. Amazing staff, clean, and lots of room.
A great visit with help from a knowledgeable employee. Well definitely be going back.
Best game store around... Seriously hands down. They have every single board game I want when none of the others do around the area. Talked to the owner and he was very nice and helped me out with a board game I wanted to buy
They were really kind and calm. I loved the atmosphere and enjoyed their events. Generally an amazing place to be.
Ive been here twice and both times the employees have been friendly. The guy tonight was a little more engaging than the previous guy. To add to the experience, the prices are just right.
Its a good card shop where you can play D&D or the local card tournament. It is worth checking out.
We enjoyed playing there as a family on the open night. We found a demo of Settlers of Catan Jr. that our (almost) 6 year old could get into. They have a lot of demos of different board games. As we searched through them, the only one for 6 year-olds was the Catan Jr. Its been fun, though! We have gone back three times to see if our boys will really get into it. They seem to be, so when we buy this game, it will be at this store!Edit: We bought it later at the store and we had many more hours of fun at home with it. Thank you Game Den!
Quality service and selection!!! Only local shop I can email with a list then pick it up. Makes it SOOOOOOOO convenient since I work long hours and usually get off work after 10pm. Staff is friendly and know their stuff. My go-to for MTG cards and products
This game store is really good. They have an excellent selection of modern board games at a good price. They have good selection of card sleeves as well. If you like board games, this is a great place to buy a game and card sleeves for it.
Ive been going to game den for over 5 years now and its still my place of choice to sit down and play some fun games of magic the gathering.
The friendliest atmosphere in a card shop Ive ever had. Card prices are reasonable, the staff and owner is friendly, and the events are so much fun. During mtg prereleases free food and giveaways the whole night, you cant ask for more.
Great store to hang out at. Its family friendly too! The owner takes deep concern with the languages used at the store. Prices are really competitive, which makes it great. Wide range of single card selections from Pokemon/Magic the Gathering/Yugioh/etc.
Nice little gaming card shop. They have all the usual Magic the Gathering, Pokémon, and old school video games. This shop also sells individual Star Wars Destiny cards and dice. I give it a 4 due to the parking and the cloister phobic feel of the shop if you are in there for more than 20 minutes.
Went in two different times in the same day. The first time it was on Monday the 1/22 at around 1pm. The employee was very stand offish and acting like I was dumb. I was in with my boys and we were looking at magic cards for building a new deck. I told him I would be back later with a list of cards since I could not remember everything off the top of my head. When I came back I had my list. I came back the same day around 9pm. When I came back the employees seemed very discouraged all the work it was going to take to find the list of cards I needed. Then another employee walked over and saw that I listed the prices of the cards I was after and proceeded to tell me that those prices are wrong and then continued to tell the employee to not trust people like me with my pricing. I explained to him that there were off of TCG website and it was just a reference so I didn’t get ripped off. After finding only 4 cards off my 30 card list they sent me on my way without a thank you or anything. Not my favorite interaction. Planning on shopping online for a while.
Great place if you love magic the gathering and other card games. Great place for tournaments
Great owners. Very helpful. Huge needs. Awesome!
This place is like heaven on earth, if I had to go anywhere that wasnt my house I would come here in a heart beat. They need to host more D&D days though.
Has a decent selection of board and card games. Had the ones I wanted to buy. Not as big as a lot of game stores, but it looks like they play a lot of games there. Nice people.
Walked in today and there were customers in the store, the guy working was wearing a mask but his 2 friends hanging out with him were not. After telling us we had to have them the kids scrambled to pick theirs up. Off to game grid instead. Wont go back here.
Pretty crappy, I get told Im going through a box of 20 cent cards, I get a bunch I wanted and go to the register to be told this ones worth 1$ and this pile is worth 50 cents each like either get organized or take the post for the card that are priced wrong. Ill be taking my business back to the valley. not to mention Ive watched this employee basically yell at someone who was interested in someone elses card in front of a whole store.
Good game shop, good employees, good board games to try before you buy
Small and clean with tables for gaming. It is your typical gaming store and I like it!
Friendly. Good selection.
Awesome little place u must check out
Nice place to go and play magic, Pokémon or Yu-Gi-Oh!. The service is not the best. I would have rated lower because as a customer, service is what draws me to a place. So nice place, just the service could use some work.
This place is amazing! The staff are always friendly and are extremely knowledgeable.
Garth tried to sell me and my friend damaged cards for 5 bucks a piece. First off, even mint, those cards arent worth that much and second, he acted all surprised and pissy when we showed the very obvious damage on the cards. Thats not the only issue Ive had with Garth, its just the most recent. If anyone, literally ANYONE, replaced him me and my friends would give this place our business again, but until then, entertainmart has better prices, better cards, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, friendly, helpful and honest staff(who arent Garth)
Great selection of family games. They also have a ton of demo games that you can play before you buy.
Table top games are very special to me and I can only capture that experience of playing table top games in a friendly and warm environment here at this game den.
Friendly staff. Fun game atmosphere.
Went inside just to browse, they had a smaller selection than most stores like this. They did have a great price marked on a Settlers of Catan expansion, 17.95. So I went to purchase it. It took me a while to get someone to get to the register, he was more interested in playing Magic. Then he rang it up $6 higher than the marked tag on the shelf. I showed him that tag and he said that was wrong. Pretty annoying that they dont honor the prices on the shelf. He wasnt even apologetic either. So I put it back and walked out.
Awesome shop for games, Yu-Gi-Oh, Magic The Gathering, and Pokemon. They host local Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokemon, and Magic tournaments every week and are a lot of fun. Check them out lots of nice people.
Best place to go no matter what u need games cards books they have it all
Okay selection of single cards. However, nothing is priced. Sales clerk looks each card up individually on ebay and charges you based on the highest bidder price. You can buy the same card from Game Den two days apart and be charged a 15 dollar difference. Save your time and order online.
Pretty easy to find, the gentleman behind the counter didnt really know how to help me, the person I was hoping to help me wasnt there that day. Tons of different games, and such.
Great place. They are always down to help, organized, and knowledgeable.
Friendly staff. The store seems to cater more to the collectable card game crowd, and they have a decent selection of todays popular board games.
Great selection, chill atmosphere and competitive prices. People come in for lunch and play cards casually, the co-owner Garth will sit and have lunch with you and discuss games and deck building, he also greets the usuals by name and takes the time to ask how theyve been. The events are fun and full of friendly smiling faces. Garth is very helpful when it comes to picking out a board game too, as he has played most of them. Lol. The shop feels like a safe zone, parents feel comfortable dropping their kids off for events because they know their kids will have a fun time and there are cameras running so no one is up to no good. The only negative comment i can think to make, is that the carpets need cleaned more often as spills do happen. Lol. All around though, its a great place!
Great place to try out new board games and find out what you like before you buy.
Bought my copy of dc teen titans deck building game great price and great condition.
Largest and most comfortable game store in Davis County. Best prices too.
My kind of people! Gotta love coming here and checking out the great selection.
Great selection of cards, but limited to magic or Yugioh. No VTES or other card games, you can pick up some board games but not as much as Game Zone.
Friendly staff. Were very helpful.
I tried out this location about 9 months ago as I was new to the area and was looking for a new shop and a vendor for pokemon league play... Ooooh boy... To start, it was my FIRST EVER pokemon event of any kind, needless to say, I had some procedural and other questions regarding deck checks/lists, format and other stuff. The clerk behind the counter, (white Male adult with dark hair and glasses), became annoyed with my questions and made me feel stupid for not knowing such basic information.Regardless, I was not going to let a clerk, (that may or may not be having a bad day), deter me from trying to join the pokemon community. He begrudgingly set me up in the system to participate in the event and I took a spot at an open table. The event itself was fun and I got to speak with the Pokemon Professor that was assigned to the event. However, that was the only positive part of my experience at this location. After the event concluded, I noted that the Pokemon Professor had participated in the event and awarded himself prizes... Granted that is an issue between TPCI and their Professor... What disturbed me was that this practice was considered Normal as neither the clerk nor any other employee wearing Game Den apparel batted an eye when this took place. After the event was concluded, I wanted to buy some additional product and Shining Legends had recently been released. I waited patiently for the clerk with the glasses while he dilly dallied behind the counter to purchase the Elite Trainer Box. I asked him to ring me up for the product and was asking questions about other products that I was interested in and again was treated as though my questions were a nuisance and the clerk made it clear through his body language, verbiage and tone that he didnt want to be bothered to answer any questions that I may have regarding the product or the store. It felt as though selling me product and entertaining my interest in purchasing additional product was treated as more of an annoyance than an opportunity.I decided that night that I would never return to the shop to purchase product, nor would I participate in events at their location due to shady and questionable integrity. I found out a few weeks later from folks at a different shop that the clerk that could not be bothered to answer questions and treated me as an annoyance is named Garth. As long as he is behind the counter of this location I would STRONGLY advise against trying to give this shop your money as the clerk cant be bothered to take it from you. Which is an unpleasant experience to say the least.
This is a great store with knowledgeable staff.
Great store - prices on singles can be a bit high but the staff is excellent and will work with you!
Great place! Love the atmosphere.
Asked worker how much commons where....25 cents each brought up 34 commons. Worker then goes and prices them after I spent 45 mins looking through the common box and says each card was over a dollar. If they are why are they in there?
My son & I love coming here!!! It’s awesome!!
Some Board games dont have prices on them, and when there are price stickers, they dont give you the prices listed. It is not my fault if you label a game 34.99 (which is MSRP.) Then you charge me 44.99 and your excuse is that its out of print. They also charge $1 for a single 10 sided die. That is rediculous when you have a giant bucket of random dice.
Great spot. My son lives here lol.
Great staff and selection of products
Friendly staff member helped me and my son despite having a crowd there for a tournament. Gave good advice.
Good, have a wide section of dice and cards.
Great place for gaming and gaming supplies.
They seem to have everything you could want however the prices are very high.
Well recommended card store 👌🏻 Always coming every week to check out the goods.
Great atmosphere and the best prices Ive seen!
A company that tries to crowd out its competition. Organized like a teenagers room.
Feeds my addictions
Love commander night
Great card store!
Great place
Everyone is really nice
Garth is a great guy.
I have been looking for a dungeons and dragons group for the past 15 years! I finally found one here but sadly they no longer talk to me. So if youre looking for someone to play dungeons and dragons with hit me up.
Great selection and service
OK place for magic cards service sux
Friendly staff. Great location.
Not to polite the workers were
The owner was extremely rude to my brothers and I when we went in to purchase Magic Cards. He took forever to attend to our needs and replied with a snarky attitude. Will NOT visit again. EVER!!!
Very nice, and helpful
Friendly and about what you would expect
I love it
