I do almost all my bike tune ups myself, but come by this shop from time to time to pick up things like cables, brake pads, etc. Its a nice spot, conveniently located, and a cool staff. Im giving them two stars because they sold me an incompatible product and they dont accept returns. I went in looking for drop bar levers for a v-brake (which can be difficult to find due to drop bar levers typically having a short pull, while v-brakes have a long pull). I asked to look at their drop-bar levers and even asked TWO different employees if they can confirm that the levers I was looking at were compatible with v-brakes. I explained to them the compatibility issues and even told them that drop bar levers typically work well with cantilever brakes, not v-brakes. One of the employees insisted it was the other way around and said I should have no issue with these brake levers. What do I know, right? Im just a hobbyist and they work at a bike shop. I purchase the brake levers, install them, and now I have squishy brakes. Theres just no way to get them to work well, because THEYRE INCOMPATIBLE. So now Im left with DANGEROUS brake levers that I cant return because of their no return policy. I ended up ordering some long pull brake levers online and now the brakes work fine (which eliminates the question that maybe I just installed the other brake levers wrong). So if youre coming here for basic stuff, some maintenance here and there, youre solid. Anything beyond that at your own risk.
The shop here is amazing with fire price and passionate staffs. They repaired my bike carefully and are not afraid to be bothered any further questions. Highly recommended!
This is 1 of 2 bicycle shops I visit when I need maintenance or products in the Downtown L.A. area. Andrew and Rodney are 2 very professional employees with great customer service. The shop itself is well lit up and organized. This is coming from someone who lives over 17 miles away who has closer bicycle shops nearby but not as good when it comes to the professionalism and customer service. Professionalism and good customer service over convenience for me when it comes to bicycles. 🚲
These guys are great: knowledgeable, diligent, friendly, fair. I searched far and wide for a hardtail for my wife, found it in LA, was a little concerned about having to buy and get modifications remotely, but came away really happy with the bike, the advice, the customization, the price, and the delivery. Really just a very good experience all around.
Since September 2020, I’ve purchased two bikes from DTLA: Cannondale CAADX1 & Specialized Sirrus X 3.0. The purchase was smooth both times, and Rodney and his crew are always helpful. They have a great selection of bikes considering the current shortage, and solid inventory of accessories and parts. Even if you have a problem with a new bike, they’re quick to address and solve the problem.
Best costomer service and great products as well as good deals!!!!! 100% recommend.
I found that the young man working in the store was helpful, he had a few suggestions pertaining to my needs which werent difficult at all. I was a little taken back with the prices for things but I guess its the sign of the times. I purchased an eBike and I needed a lock to secure my investment until my permanent one arrives and Im not going anywhere without a way to lock it. Anyway his suggestions for a lock varied from higher to high and still dropped over $60 and that was on the low endlock. But overall it was a pleasurable experience,
Fixes all of my flats and everything else all the time. They know what they are doing. 👍🏻🚴♀️
Had a derailleur hanger I needed. They were super helpful over the phone. Went in and they tried to charge me $45 for what is a $16 piece when ordered from the manufacturer... and Im assuming they get it somewhat cheaper from the manufacturer than I would. Couldnt believe it... doesnt seem like a trustworthy place to do repairs on your bike, if they are going to overcharge for something as simple as a derailleur hanger. Gave me the vibe of a bad auto shop. Go somewhere else!!
Super helpful staff, quality service and products, fast turn around on maintenance repairs.
Earlier today, I picked up the Topeak MTX Trunkbag with panniers and Delta X-Mount Pro for my new bicycle. Both accessories were recommended by Rodney and Im very happy with them. These panniers fit full size binders! Both accessories are exactly what I needed and Rodney gave me quick recommendations. The store has a lot of bicycles and accessories to choose from. Such selections are usually a nightmare for me due to my indecisiveness - but Rodney and the team seem incredibly knowledgeable of their products, so its easy to ask questions and get pointed in the right direction.I will definitely return when I need to shop for more accessories or a new bike for me or my daughter 👌🏼
Rodney spent a few hours with me to make sure I found the right road bike. He and his staff were incredibly friendly and attentive while trying to purchase a bike. Loved being able to test out a few bikes on their track as well.I would give this place 5 stars, but unfortunately upon my 2nd ride with the bike, the pedals and the pedal arms fell off my bike mid ride. Luckily I was on a flat, slow portion of my ride, but had I been flying down a hill this wouldve been incredibly dangerous. When the pedals and arms fell off, the entire gear system fell off as well and hit the ground. The staff were helpful in fixing the bike, and suggested it might be a manufacturers defect. I now am reaching out to State Bicycles, the manufacturer, to figure out what mightve happened. They gave me a small credit in the store to use at a later date, but I did feel like they couldve done more since they let me leave the store with a broken bicycle. I dont know if it was the manufacturers fault or they didnt properly check the bike for a missing screw, but either way I was in a very precarious situation and almost seriously injured myself with a brand new bicycle. All that said, the store is big with a large selection of bikes, and the team are great.
👍👍W-O-N-D-E-R-F-U-L 🤜🤛 Theyve made a customer for life!! You should stop Im ask questions and just talk if they have the time to Im thrilled to have a place like this around!
Rodney is the anchor at DTLA! His customer service and approach is next level. Very fortunate to run into him on my bike hunt. Thank again for my bike guys. Ill be back soon when its time to get a new road bike.
The individual working the repair shop in the back was on a power trip. (Hes wearing massive silver rings on all 5 fingers on his right hand)I took a bike part that I needed, he immediately started talking down to me. The part I purchased was not correct. So I asked him to provide more details as to why it wasnt. He snapped and said How are you going to tell me about bikes when Ive worked with them for 24 years. I didnt let him finish his sentence and snapped back at him. Im not a bike expert, so Im asking you how and why its not correct. He calmed his a** down after that. Avoid the repair shop dude with rings. Everyone else is nice.I love the parakeets they have as well.
I went there and get my tires replaced. I went there initially to get new inner tubes, but was told that the tires also needed to be replaced. Work was done fairly quickly.
I took my daughter jetson electric bike to get fixed. They charged $73 just to fix her wheels. (Inter tube air) just for 2 tires. And the next day the back tire was flat again. All for them to tell me I have to pay an additional $40 for a new tire . This place is a rip off I will not be going back.
The first time I came they weren’t cool but I’ve been going for a while now and they’re super cool 10/10 cool
This is a pretty big shop, centrally located in downtown. I have been in a couple times to use their free air on my tires, which is cool of them. Today I went in for a helmet. Ended up with a nice urban style Serfa helmet for about 80 bucks. Probably worth it to spend that money, I cant replace my skull. They have a nice selection and stock of helmets and gear and bags, and of ebikes and specialized bikes and some others. They have a huge selection of locks and their house brand U-locks are better than the kryptonite lock I bought somewhere else, and a better price. Service was great. Five stars would bike again.
Very nice bike shop awesome enthusiastic knowledgeable owner/manager who really wants to help. I got my camo pedal straps from here
Theyre fair enough! Helpful most of the time too. They do have to pay their rent which Im sure at this location isnt cheap. Though Ive gotten deals here comparable with Amazon and Id much rather support a local business than help Jeff add to his billions!
It was cool second time Ive been in their prices on the bikes are a little speed but once I start working it shouldnt be much of a problem Im looking for a carbon fiber BMX Old School La Street freestyle bike
Dtla bikes owner n staff are courteous n give great service n are very fast on doing there job because I have taken my bike to other bike shops n I have to leave it there for hours or couple days n they have a great selection of parts n bikes to choose from!! youll stay stuck like gum on the wall 😲
Nice place easy to find when you dont have transportation. A lot of beautiful Bikes reasonable prices. Thanks for fixing my flat tire
They worst customer service I have ever experienced. I will never go back to this place the guy in the front was extremely rude. I was here for a simple fix. A friend was with me on this day and asked for a price on a specific bike two times to get no answer what so ever. This place needs to work on there customer service skills or have some type of training.
My number one choice in bike shops
It was ok it could be better but Im ok with that
Quick service, helpful staff.
Great selection, great products, great service. What more can one ask for? Always someone to ask if you need help with anything. It sure came in handy when I was in the dressing room and needed someone to help me find a different size. An employee saw me in need and immediately came over to see if she could assist me. Pleasant environment to roam around endlessly.
Walked in to get my stem and carbon bars inspected and the worker helped me out and gave me some good advice and adjusted my bars to the correct newton meter 👍will be visiting again in the future
Great service prompt and friendly. Definitely coming back. I had an emergency and DTLA bikes took care of me.
Good quality bike parts with a mid sized selection of tubes bikes and tools
We found two bikes that fit us perfectly and paid a very reasoable price for everything. They even showed me how to install my bike rack and put the bikes on it. My wife and I were very satisfied with our service and our cool bikes. Thank You.
Outrageous prices. Prepare to be up-marked 300% for location convenience. E-bike flat cost me a whopping $45 not including the tube. It is sad an establishment would take advantage of citizens who are supporting sustainable modes of transportation and just trying to help reduce traffic and carbon emissions for our city.
Extremely efficient and affordable repairs. Wonderful staffing. Knowledgeable sales force.
These guys are really close to my place of work so it was really convenient for me to go to them for a quick repair. Called in to see if they had any time slots to do replace the front tube; went in, paid for new tube and the service, left...all within 10min. I didnt go over my break time from work! Couldnt be happier with the outcome.
Only place in town I can get my custom scooter fixed service and prices are always excellent and the owner Rodney really cares about his customers.
Come here if u wanna be rip off
Great bike shop. I have been in few times over the past couple months, sometimes for information, sometimes for repairs, sometimes for products. Every time I have been happy with the experience. The staff have always answered all my questions. Manuel has done a great job on repairs. My bike was ghost shifting, and he spent the time to explain my options, without trying to sell me more than I needed. I ultimately did opt for replacing the chain and cassette, and brakes, and he did the work in no time, for an extremely reasonable price. More recently he spent a long time trying to get my lock mount positioned correctly. They also have an entire floor downstairs where you can test ride bikes. Im thinking of purchasing one of their own reasonably priced commuter bikes; based on my experience so far I wont regret it. Definitely stop by and check it out.
Just got my bike with DTLAbikes! Wow! Not only fantastic product but much exceptional service! I feel the bike was made for me. Thank you!
Go to Golden Saddle Cyclery instead!!!! Called ahead to see if they could install some handle bars. With confidence they guys says yes... I drive over and show the mechanic the parts and tell him specifically that I dont want to scratch the carbon bars. He rudely says yes he can install them for $10 in 20 minutes. I come back 10 minutes later and the mechanic comes out with a lack of confidence and tell me he might break my stem if he tries install the bars...asking for my permission in other words. I give him the clear.. as he walks away you can tell he is mad so I ask him if he doesnt feel confident to install them then I can take it elsewhere. He grunts and keeps walking with a bigger attitude. At this point I dont trust him of not be malicious with my property so I walked out and told other customers to go elsewhere. I called Golden Saddle Cyclery and explained the situation. Withing seconds they said it wasnt a problem. Easy job. Second time are this store second chance... never again take your money elsewhere.
Great selection, great products, great service. What more can one ask for? Always someone to ask if you need help with anything.!! love this place
The worst experience,at first i call to so see if they had an inner tube for an electric scooter 10x2.25 and they said yes. However when i got there they told me they didnt have it. When i got there no one noticed me til i had to ask one of the workers that who is helping walk ins. Buttom line it was a total waste of time and money as i had to pay 12 dollars for parking. If i can give this guys negative stars i would, careless waste of people.
Great bike shop. I have been in few times over the past couple months, sometimes for information, sometimes for repairs, sometimes for products. Every time I have been happy with the experience. The staff have always answered all my questions.!!
The mechanic did good work but I won’t be going again. My chain was clicking after being thrown earlier so I stopped in because I was nervous about getting hurt. The owner shamed me for not taking better care of my bike and gave me a litany of things wrong with it. Meanwhile other people have told me that my bike is in relatively good shape, so I was taken aback. I’ve known that it needed a tune up but have been putting it off because i ride it every day and can’t leave it for days on end at a shop. When I go to a store I don’t need to hear that “if it takes care of you you should take care of it” — it’s an inanimate object, I’m on fixed income, and if I wasn’t I would be able to take care of MY means of transportation, thanks. I ended up spending an unforeseen $150 because I had trouble distinguishing what was essential and nonessential with my limited knowledge. In hindsight I feel my ignorance and stress at throwing my chain was capitalized on. The owner did say he was giving me a discount and looking at the price breakdown it was reasonable per part, but I left feeling confused, stressed out, and like I had been taken advantage of. A friend said they did the same thing to him. This place might be ok if you are a hobbyist have disposable income but for those like me, go to Bike Kitchen in Hollywood they’ll teach you how to fix your bike yourself and help you out with parts. Or find a womxn owned bike shop that won’t shame you. Otherwise you’re paying for convenience.
The only reason why Im giving them five stars its just because of Rodney the owner super cool guy major major good deals and his mechanics really really good Miguel hes really good as well the rest rest of the staff Im not very happy with but you know theyre just a little uptight but you know it is what it is they shop super high-end bikes the same as if you were to go into like a Louis Vuitton how they would treat you if you were just like a bum you know I mean so until you buy something from them they dont know you but once you buy they treat you like family so over all the really good and I love my bike its a beast
The owner help with a lot of useful information about a bike project that I was going to start and I haven’t even bought anything yet. Overall good service and knowledgeable people.
The store has everything from tents and sleeping bags, to bikes and books, as well as food, water bottles, and tons of clothes. There is also a climbing wall, and the store hosts free clinics (including one just for women on Wednesdays). There are also regular events and outings run out of the store - all with a local focus. Check them out.
The gentleman that helped us was knowledgeable, gave great suggestions and helped my son with his first ride to make sure everything fit properly. I will definitely use this store for my younger son when he is ready and myself for my bike needs.
DTLA Bikes definitely works together as a team. I love professionals!! They came together, listened to my valid woes about my bicycling purchasing experience
Always great and able to help me with my needs.*Updates: Still great. Have been taking 2 bikes for service and upgrades on parts (one road one single speed) and the work is always impecable. Everyone is pretty chill and knowledgeable also. Sept 20, 2020
Great selection, great products, great service. What more can one ask for? Always someone to ask if you need help with anything
The mechanics are great but customer service and respect is severely lacking.
Had a flat and they up-sold me on a new rim and tape liner to help prevent future flats $200+ later I was back in action. But they left a piece of zip tie in the tire... got a flat by the next weekend I tied to ride. No way this could have gotten in there from riding.
The repair was good and fast, staffs were so nice and friendly! I recommend this bike shop to all!
I had a problem with my rear bearings no more than $20 to fix. the staff was lousy unhelpful didnt even check the computer to see how much where the bearings gave me a ridiculous price of $50 never again will I go to that store!!!! My recommendation would be go to a mom-and-pop shop because these stores now are all interested about money and not customer service
The majority of the staff here is are friendly, and really helpful when it comes to some basic questions on fixed geared bikes, and road bikes. Any labor services they offer are typically quick. Prices are pretty low. Would recommend.
I bought spare parts here and they sold me it for fair price! Great bike shop and Recommended!
I been shopping around for a road bike for a few months and was never satisfied with customer service UNTIL I came to DTLA BIKES. They were more than happy to find the right type of bike for me and my style of riding. They even stayed after hours to help me research and try different brand of bikes out. They really cared. I will definitely recommend this place to all of my friends. FANTASTIC CUSTOMER SERVICE!
When in today got my valve of my “tubeless ready tire “repair with a new core.MANUEL hook it up when out of his way and show me how to put in the tire sealant I also got me a core remover Which I will be needing every time I have to put the tire sealant in. I was in and out of there in 15 minutes will definitely come back to this bike shop.Higly reccomen this shop👍🏻
DTLA Bikes is one of the oldest shops in Downtown Los Angeles! The shop is in the heart of the city, right off the Broadway Bike Route and in between two major bike arteries traveling East and West. Ive been a customer of the shop since I moved to downtown back in 2014 and I am very impressed with their staffs knowledge of bikes, gear and all things cycling in LA. Paula runs the front and she is one of the sweetest and kind individuals Ive met in a long time! Her knowledge of bikes and bags is astronomical. Swing by and pick her brain!
Cool place! Staff was cool and friendly. Owner was a nice guy also. I will be going back yo buy the one love bike. Looks great.
I recently spent nearly $200 dollars on a complete overhaul of my road bike after coming in with a flat rear tube. The following time I rode the bike (after properly pumping), I got another rear flat. I asked DTLA bikes to change the tube for me again and in almost any shop I’ve ever been to, this work would have been covered by a warranty. Not only that, but any defects (I.e tire issues or glass) should have been caught in the complete overhaul so it seems unlikely it is my fault. In any event I was forced to pay for a new tube. I will likely not go back there again.
Rodney is the man and built me a really amazing bike for a great price!
Very friendly staff. Went there with a flat tire... Got out in about 5 minutes.
The staff were watching the computers and nobody said Hi or something like that. I asked for mountain bikes but it was downstairs and there isn t someone to guide me or offer me service! Nice store but BAD service!
I purchased my first electric scooter there earlier this year, the Magnum iMax S1+, and I love it! It had some minor brake alignment and a rear light problem when I first picked it up, so when I brought it in 2 days later they just replaced it for me. The new one has had no problems whatsoever, and they gave me a lot of great free advice on maintenance and battery longevity. This was way nicer and easier than any online return process. I also purchased a headlight and they installed it and transferred between scooters for me.
Great bike shop. I have been in few times over the past couple months, sometimes for information, sometimes for repairs, sometimes for products.
I love this place! They have everything I need for all my activities and at good prices!!
Good place to buy bicycle items but to expensive sorry i will still stick with big box store bicycles. Cant even buy a bicycle for 250 dollars here. I realize it a high end bicycle shop but i will stick with cheap bikes i have a Huffy for 12 year still going strong!
One of the best bike shops Ive been to. From the friendly service, quick and well done repairs. My go to I the city.
Quick turn around for a complete overhaul.
About 2 months ago I bought a 2019 Cannondale catalyst from DTLA Bikes. I have been very happy with it so far, but about 2 days ago while riding it started making this sound ..like metal rubbing against metal. It was due for a complimentary tune up so I brought it in and mentioned the noise which I thought was a gear issue..I got a call back later in the day and assumed it was to tell me I could come pick up the bike....It turns out it needed a part which blew me away since I had only bought it 2 months ago. The mechanic said he would start the warranty paperwork and I told them I would pay for the part and pick up the bike in the next few days. I called the day after dropping it off just to see if they had gotten any news regarding my warranty from Cannondale and was told that Dtla Bikes would replace it for free. Now that, ladies and gentlemen, is how you run a business and look out for your customers..Thank you, Dtla Bikes.
Maybe they have some cool stuff but dont go there expecting to rent a real road bike. Prices are $100 a day for an alleged road bike but it will be a cheap aluminum bike that can hardly be called a road bike. Beware.
They fixed my bike when I couldnt. They customer service is excellent. These guys rock!!!
Great Service
Always great service!
I bought a bike from DTLA today and walked out feeling very satisfied. The employees were very courteous and helpful. They offered suggestions and let me ride the bikes around the track upstairs and gave tips and most of all gave really excellent customer service. Their prices were very fair competetively and they had a mechanic there who fine tuned the bike for me and added a rack at no extra cost. The only negative might be the sketchy neighborhood but maybe thats how they can keep their prices low. I wouldnt hesitate to go back :)
Prompt service for a flat on a fatbike. I was a bit worried they wouldnt carry the size inner tube I needed, but they happily provided a new one and an extra. For both tubes and labor for a tube change, I paid $40. Again, theyre pretty hard to find. The labor was like $5.95. This place has a sizeable selection of bikes, too. Electric bikes are offered. They have bikes outside the place so you cant miss it
Its a hidden gem
Fantastic shop — my go to LBS. Did a great job helping me put together a custom build, everyone was extremely helpful and patient in getting together everything I needed.
BEST Bike Shop in all of Los Angeles!
I’m gonna butcher her name but Darena was very helpful with my emergency bike issue. Thank you.
Love this spot. Only place I go to get my bike worked on. Very helpful and knowledgeable!
Great guys working there. Great service!
Although I have previously enjoyed their convenient location for simple services, they were absolutely horrible to me when one of their operations damaged my bike and I brought it back to them to fix it. The rude man at the counter kept pointing out that my bike was old and random, unrelated problems with it and debating me about how their operation could have damaged my bike. Its not like I was asking them to fix it for free! Eventually he kept talking and stonewalling me so long that he kicked me out of the store because it was getting close to closing. Dont go here for anything more complicated than buying a bike light
Huge varieties of accessories! I love this shop !
Great deals! fair pricing!
Quick and knowledgeable service with helpful staff. Its expensive compared to other places downtown but its top notch!
Very quick and helpful staff! Thankful to have a shop of this quality in the area!
In looking for a 24 BMX bike, I ran across DTLA Bikes on google maps. After stopping at a few places that only sold 20 BMXs, I was glad to see a selection of the size I was looking for. Rodney assisted me from the moment I walked in and ensured I walked away w/ all things needed in riding safely in L.A. and according to the law. I went in for one BMX bike and wound up purchasing two! Downstairs is where all the magic/bikes are, be sure to take a look!
From El Monte to La Puente to all of the SGV bike shops to DTLA this is the ONLY place that cuts and threads forks. Excellent service quality customer service. Definitely recommend.
Rude staff. The following day I spent $1200 at another bike shop. Too bad. So sad.
I take my bike here every now and than they have great customer service and a variety of accessories for bikes
Literally the best bike shop in LA, everyone was friendly and actually help you, they also have a lot variety of bikes and they look pretty lit af.
DTLA Bikes definitely works together as a team. I love professionals!! They came together, listened to my valid woes about my bicycling purchasing experience ---wasnt pushy about trying to sale me another bicycle, gave some awesome advise to research online towards what I really wanted....even offered that if I found something online that they would assemble for a decent price. Need I mention that I was able to test ride indoors?? Thats a big deal in my book. Overall Im now the proud owner of a sweet sparkly galaxy blue 2019 Cannondale CAAD Synapse---and I couldnt be happier. Well---Unless it came with a super-hot instagram model chick in hot-shorts to ride with. :-) Thanks guys!! 5Stars!! To future bike owners: We are all human---spirits in a body---a smile, patience and understanding goes a long way when making an investment towards your toys and gadgets. Know what you want ---do a little research before you walk into a bike store. Downtown LA is bananas enough without having to deal with persons with super high expectations on something they arent really clear about. Check ya self---dont wreck yaself. Peace!
The service guy is really helpful its a really clean store Ill definitely come here more often .....
BY FAR THE WORST BIKE SHOP I EVER BEEN TO. THEY RIPPED ME OFF BY SELLING ME A SEAT AND POST AND DOUBLE CHARGED MY CREDIT CARD, I SHOWED THEM MY STATEMENT AND THEY REFERRED ME TO CALL THEIR COMPANY. ITS BEEN 5 MONTHS, STILL NOTHING. DONT GO THERE!!!
