The bagels are great, online ordering is not. They dont do phone orders and their web site for Madison Wisconsin does NOT allow you to place orders to be delivered at a later date or time. Contacted owner and let him know, he insisted web site is working properly. Checked a week later only allows same day orders. Wedding brunch was over an hour late and only happened after calling.

LOVE Gotham Bagels! Currently dining inside is not available, but you can order online for window pickup. Loads of awesome bagels and bagel sandwich options. I highly recommend the OMFG one, theres a bit of spice, but it has fried chicken, bacon, overeasy fried egg, cheese, and a pepper aioli. I really like mine on the everything bagel.

I love the taste of Gotham Bagels. However, I ordered for 9/16 and it was not the best experience. I placed my order for 1:15 pm several days in advance. 1:15 came and went and I called. I was told it would be here shortly. So 2:15 came and went and I called again. The man that answered was rude and asked if I really needed them before sundown. I did, in fact, order them for a break fast, but maybe I had non fasters who wanted them earlier? Anyway around 2:45 they finally arrived and I had 11 bagels instead of 13. What if I had more than 11 guests? Definitely disappointed. (and I obviously paid for 13)

So good very accommodating with requests and every bite is so good!! Love this place!!

Today I ordered an everything bagel with egg and bacon. Waited 30 minutes for it. Fine. Waited in line for 20 minutes to get the guy running the register to acknowledge my existence AFTER they they texted me saying it was ready. Then the thing is soggy and cold. Felt bad, but at least Gotham will scrap the bill.

Seems like food is good but DO NOT order delivery! I was busy working from home so I ordered food and coffee. It took them more than an hour from when the order was out for delivery, for the food to get to my apt, and it’s only a five minute drive.Food was cold and soggy from sitting in the bag and wasn’t much to talk about. I give it more than one star though, because it seems like it would be good when fresh.

They wont except walk ups or cash. You can only order on line so if you want afford a smart phone, are too young or poor to have a credit card than you are not allowed to eat at this elitist establishment. Shame on this business.

Bagels are great but so far my delivery is an hour late. After reading responses from the owner they are clearly very rude.UPDATE: we called and asked for an update at a half hour late, they said it was on the way. Called back at an hour and we’re told that guy lied. They refunded our order and sent extra food but none of the sandwiches were the right ones. Just don’t bother.

Great food but the prices need to he adjusted 1.50 to add cream cheese to the bagel is ridiculous thats how much it is to just buy a box of cream cheese at the store and 2.00 to add avocado is also outrageous thats the price of a whole avocado. Your a sandwich shop not a five star restaurant.

Ive passed by many times and not ordered simply because I dont want to wait 10-15 minutes for a sliced bagel.Given the current state of the pandemic, I think its time to open the store back up. As a business owner, I am one that is easily bothered by inefficiency when I see it.While I respect the owners view that risking public safety for a dollar isnt worth it, there are many other food businesses in the area that implemented covid protocols better. Just my opinion.

Pastrami on the Piled High sandwich was tasty and thin cut, but was drowned out by the extremely salty seasoning of the everything bagel. The bagels are definitely better than others I’ve had in Madison, but still nowhere near what I grew up with in NYC. I waited 2 hours for delivery despite an estimated 75 minutes at order confirmation. After 90 mins, I called the shop for an update since my order was still not out for delivery, and got a ring no answer. Quite disappointing! Will not be ordering again.Edit: my new favorite part of ordering through Gotham is having the owner reply with an extremely condescending response. Classy! Save your time and money, folks.

Marxian sense of estrangement as you walk in the door fully vaccinated with your mask and told to leave and order your bagel on your phone with an app that doesnt work. Want to call in your order? Nope. Too bad its the only good bagel in 200 miles radius. Can we please get a new bagel place where you dont have to drive downtown and pay to park only to be told to go pound sand?

Bagels were good but we waited almost 2 hours for 2 bagel sandwiches and when we finally got our food they forgot our orange juice. Several people outside waited for the same amount of time if not more. Only way to order was online and they said wait was only 30 minutes. Don’t bother if you’re in a hurry, not worth the wait.

They seriously need to figure out a better pick up system. Waited around two hours for an order of TWO bagels and finally decided to cancel my order to get a refund. Mind you, it said my order would take 30 minutes and when I went to the pick up window after two hours they said my order hadn’t been started yet. I understand COVID makes things difficult, but they had a bunch of orders that were inside and ready that they should have had someone using their main door yelling out names as the orders get done. That is simple. Notice they hardly reply to the reviews that state this. I have no doubt in my mind the bagels are great, but they need to be more efficient. Everyone in the line was upset. This is not an exaggeration. The DMV is quicker and more efficient.

Their bagels truly are the best in the state and they have salt bagels and tofu cream cheese just like most New York delis. My only complaint is they didn’t toast my bagel sandwich, and there was no place on the online order that indicated it would come untoasted and no place to check a box for toasted. Untoasted bagel with cream cheese is just wrong.

Food is excellent but they really need to figure out a different delivery system. I have ordered twice and both times it has taken two hours. That’s an awfully long time to wait for a meal. Once that gets fixed, I will edit this to 5 stars.

The online order system is cumbersome. They are probably missing out on some good orders. I walked away while trying to place a $25 order. Those orders add up. They would not accept a credit card and will only take an online payment. I get that we are going through unprecedented times, but a dollar is a dollar. My cash would probably have been declined too.

Great place for a filling breakfast. Lots of unique flavors, and vegetarian friendly! I would definitely recommend their cranberry-rosemary juice.

How this business has dealt with COVID and navigated it has been incredible and shows just how committed they are to the wellness of their staff - which is so great to see. I would rather my bagel take a longer time/not have the shop open at all if it means no one is at risk or in harms way - but even then, every. single. time. i get a bagel from here it is perfectly on time in accordance to what they tell you when you order and ITS SO GOOD!! insanity - the price reflects these bagels i stg and even then I would pay more just cause I love it so much. I dream about these bagels... fr the BEST bagels you will find in Madison, if not Wisconsin. Thank you to everyone who works here - working during COVID is scary in any capacity and I really cant thank you guys enough for doing what you are doing!! The bagels (we had 3) were all so hard I think I would have to warn you - if you haven’t had teeth checked in last few months - don’t risk it. I asked for softest bagels for kids.. these were sure literally the hardest bagel I have ever tasted. Imagine dehydrating a bare for oh, say a week in the sun. You’re close.A side benefit is the children ate slowly, it took them about 40 minutes to gnaw through the top half. I will use the bottom half for a door stop or perhaps a wheel chock.So why 3 stars if the bagel can double as driveway pacer? The ingredients were really fresh and the cream cheese was nicely whipped, service was great.

You need a smartphone and credit card to eat here. No in person cash or credit orders.

Moral of the Story: DO NOT GO IF YOU DONT HAVE 3 HOURS OF YOUR LIFE TO WASTE IN LINE FOR A SINGLE BAGEL SANDWICH.After waiting an hour and a half for my order, I finally got to the front of the line, with everyone else who was confused and dissatisfied, to ask what was going on. The only response I received was your order isnt ready, wait for a text when my friends, whom I placed an order with at the same time, received their sandwich 30 minutes prior. I never received a text saying my order was ready and NEVER RECEIVED REIMBURSEMENT for the food I never got. To top it off my friends said their sandwiches were nothing special. After wanting to get Gotham Bagels for over a year I can say I WILL NEVER BE GOING BACK.

Best bagel shop in Madison!

Local bagel shop with a nice variety of cream cheeses (sweet and savory). Ive had better bagels, although these were still good. The appeal is definitely the different cream cheese flavors. You can order online for pick up, just be prepared for a bit of a wait on weekends.

I have ordered bagels online a few times and every time they give me a time to come and everytime I end up waiting outside for an additional 20 minutes. The bagels are good but this is getting fairly ridiculous.

I have ordered from Gotham about once a week for almost two years and when I move away in June I believe their bagels are one of the things I’ll miss most about Madison.Highly recommend – I have yet to meet an item on the menu I don’t like.

Quintessential Madison breakfast spot. One of my absolute favorites. A huge variety of bagel types and bagel sandwiches will keep you coming back. Plus, a changing menu of fresh juices that are worth the trip on a hot day in themselves. If you are needing a little bit of New York in Madison, then do yourself a favor and make the trip to Gotham.

OWNER JOEY’S BEHAVIOR OFFENSIVE - My girlfriend and I visited this establishment this morning and had to place an order online. After ordering online, it took 5 minutes to receive a text stating our order would be ready within 30 minutes. We proceeded to wait for 50 minutes for a bagel and a bagel sandwich. While waiting with about 30 other people, I spoke with an older gentleman and he stated he had been waiting for an hour with his wife as well. The common thread spoken was that this restaurant could do a better job informing people online of the wait time BEFORE they place their order/pay.I voiced this to the owner Joey while picking up my order at the window. As my girlfriend and I turned to walk down the street the owner stormed out of the restaurant in front of 30 people and yelled aggressively, “HEY YOU!” - “Go ahead, tell me again what’s wrong with my restaurant?!?” I said quietly and embarrassed, “A customer should be notified of the wait times before they place an order and are then stuck waiting 50 min on a Saturday morning for a bagel—after they have already paid. He angrily yells, “Why don’t you come fix my system for me then!” At this point he had created a scene in front of this group of people and their talking went quiet. I shockingly and in disbelief said, “Is this how you treat your customers?” He stormed away, through the group of people, and back inside - no concern, sympathy, or apology.This is unacceptable human behavior in general and especially for a business owner to a customer. This is unfortunate, as they have delicious bagels. I encourage others to post if they have similar experiences with this guy or his business. My intent is for others to not have this happen to them. I will no longer continue to be a patron nor will my business.

Stopped at Gotham while I was visiting Madison. The egg sandwich was really good and made fresh in front of me. Bagel was really good. Much, much better than I have had at other bagel places outside of New York. Coffee was hot and fresh. Only reason I gave 4 stars is because I thought it was a little pricey, BUT, nothing that would break the bank. A large coffee, buttered bagel and Bacon, egg and cheese on a bagel was $11.50. I will definitely be back and would highly recommend Gotham Bagel!

My family got catering from here today for out Chanukah celebration. It wasnt a fantastic time and my sister left a very truthful review of her experience. Unfortunately for us the owners did not take very kindly to our review and called up my parents to yell at and harass them about it. I dont know what kind of business does that but apparently Gotham Bagels is that type of business.

Absolutely terrible service today. I placed an order at 1030, got a text saying that it would take 30 minutes, and ended up getting my food around 1140. Such a joke that their order system is so disorganized and the bagels are tiny. Not worth the price, wait or service.

Best restaurant in Madison, easily! Try literally anything that they have, but for best effect, try one of their rotating sandwiches on a bagel of your choice. You really cant go wrong.

Everything was mostly fantastic, but one cinnamon raisin bagel ended up with cream cheese mixed with some sort of garlic or onion. Made for a nasty surprise, but everything else was perfect! Just clean the knife between cream cheese spreads and youll be good!

First of all, the sandwiches are fantastic. Fresh made, great ingredients, the whole nine. While I was there, people were continuously getting stuck in the snow outside and one of the employees kept going outside to help push cars. This probably says more about this individual than Gotham Bagels, but the fact is, they hired him. Theyre doing things right. Grab a bagel sandwich. Definitely worth a stop... especially with a hangover.

I come here pretty much every morning. They have great bagels and cream cheese, AND really good deli meats. Try a sandwich and some fresh squeezed juice!

Placed an online order. They estimated that it would take 75 minutes but took over 120. The pastrami sandwich was missing the coleslaw. The real cherry on top was the fact that we couldn’t call Gotham to check on the order. Their voicemail box is full!

Food was delicious and timely. Staff was courteous and witty. McDonalds is right down the street! (Inside joke)

Authentic New York style bagels. This is by far the best bagel shop in Madison! Lots of delicious sandwich options - hot and cold. It gets really busy Saturday mornings, but the wait is worth it!

Best bagels and juices in Madison. New York style, tons of bagel types and spreads, and great meat for breakfast sandwiches if thats what you prefer. Everything made fresh daily.Things to be aware of: there will most likely be a line (especially if going during normal breakfast time and on weekends) and a bit of a wait to get your meal. Its more pricey than youd expect for a bagel shop.

I was SO stoked to try this place based on reviews and my love of bagels. But, we went there on a busy Sunday morning and I had a truly terrible bagel. It must have been sitting there for three days before they served it to me. My boyfriends bagel was good though. Disappointing.

Fantastic bagel. One of the best Ive had outside of NY. The olive cream cheese is great. The toppings are on both sides of the bagel, which is super great. Only downside is the line. And the orders move slow. Ive never been to a slower bagel shop.

Local, quick and delicious place for bagels and coffee. I had the lox with scallion cream cheese on an everything bagel and very much enjoyed it. During the transaction i felt like I was being served by an authentic American college student or at least in a college town.

Had a great experience in this place with my kids. The food came fast and the customer service is just excellent. Prices are fair.

Unpretentious, super busy little eatery close to the heartbeat of the Badger campus. Their bagel spreads are scrumptious, try the artisan Jalapeno garlic...a bunch of hard-working guys behind the counter that reminded me of a New York deli I once saw...

Ordered extra cream cheese and paid $4.25 for a bagel. In return I received the tiniest bagel I have ever seen. It was like a little baby bagel with just a tiny amount of cream cheese. Some days Ive had really great bagels that are large with a significant amount of cream cheese and then days like this where they are just unreal. Wish there was another bagel option near this location.

Ridiculous business model.

I get breakfast here on average once a week. The bagels are SO GOOD and the in-house-cured bacon is incredibly good. Their meats in general are so delicious, and they have some really creative rotating/seasonal cream cheese flavors as well as all the typical ones you might find in a classic New York bagel shop.

Ive heard that this is the best place to get bagels in Madison, and I couldnt agree more. They have some great bagel sandwiches. I highly suggest anything that has salmon on it. Coffee is pretty good too.

I love this place!!! I always get the garlic bagel toasted with the tofu scallion cream cheese. In the month of May they have rainbow bagels which I ordered but didn’t receive :( they were super busy so I didn’t say anything but I hope I get one next time.

Its a shame that when you order a large number of bagels this facility could not even have the decency to put them in a box to have a good presentation, but instead placed all 24 bagels in some shopping bag, and had the cream cheese all over them, when I had told them the purpose for the order. I wont recommend them to anyone. And there was no respect from the people there. I guess customers like me dont matter.
