Ive been to comic book stores all around the city, and I can honestly say Capital City Comics has something for everyone. Other comic book stores in town are overpriced and only focus on new single issues. If you want to find some of the best comic books in the industry, go to Capital City Comics. Bruce has an encyclopedic knowledge about everything comics. If youre not sure what youre really looking for, talk to Bruce and he will set you up with stories you would never find on your own.Yes, the store is crowded, but for me that really adds to the charm of the place. This is a locally owned business that has been around for decades. They literally have everything!

Books piled everywhere. You need to dig to find stuff. Older gentleman behind the counter asked if I needed help, which I didnt cause I was with my husband who was searching. Our son (14) immediately wanted to leave, called it a hoarders store. Seriously, it was super tight, I almost knocked over piles of comics more than once.Nothing is priced, you have to take the books to the counter to ask. Even though I was told one of the workers was pricing stuff. My husband said he got a weird vibe in here, and the older gentleman was talking down to some when they asked a question. We left and wont be back.

Really terrible comic book store and experience. I’m not exactly an experienced comic collector or anything, mostly buying comics for covers or characters, but I had found two comics with printed prices of 3.99 a piece. I got to the counter and he had checked EBAY of all places, then told me they would be $15 a piece because they were “collectors”. It was overall a really condescending experience. On top of the terrible service the store itself is practically impossible to navigate. If you’re looking for specific issues/covers, don’t even attempt to navigate what they have. It’s all stacked in piles and boxes with vague labels, and to get to those you have to move more piles of loose comics that don’t have any cardboard or anything. In general the store and owner were very intimidating as if they didn’t want us in there, talking down to us like we weren’t wanted there. I won’t be returning and I recommend you don’t even try this place out. Honestly hope it ends up going out of business to make room for more organized comic stores that know how to run a business.

When I was a kid in Madison years and years ago Bruce helped me collect a 60s Marvel series called Captain Savage and his Leatherneck Raiders. It had some tie ins with Sergeant Fury and his Howling Commandos. He was so helpful to me in finding every single back issue of a minor Marvel series. To this day I still remember seeing the expression of delight on his face when I walked in the store and he had somehow obtained the last issue which completed my set. Over the years I always went back to the store and Im so happy its still around.

Owner was very condencending upon entering the store, immediately critisizing my brothers desire to purchase a comic book that was a special issue for the video game fortnite. After my brother asked about it the owner began to loudly talk with his associate how they should order more issues of the special issues just for suckers like him. To say the least I am very disappointed with his customer service and wont be returning.

Very knowledgeable, friendly staff with an in depth stock of past comic book issues going back 50+ years. This is in addition to a wide array of current comic book publications updated every week. The store also has a great variety of hardcover reprint comic collections (Marvel and DC etc) plus many diverse books about comic book artists and comic book history, etc. Other Madison stores have their pluses but Capitol City Comics is unique and the best. Theyve been in business for over 40 years so their experience is unsurpassed.Photo: The Joy of Comics! Thats me with the Tales to Astonish #37, 1962.

I have been a customer of Bruce’s since the mid-1970s, and continue to make the 2 ½ hour drive as often as I can to browse his unmatched selection of back issues, unique titles, and amazing statues. And just to sit and talk comics with someone who has been collecting for longer than myself and who is an absolute expert and treasure trove of information regarding titles, artists, collections, collectors, etc.Yeah, I’d miss the kids and wife, but could get lost in scouring this shop for treasures for months on end!Very Highly Recommended & worth a trip!!

Been going there for years, love the selection love the staff. Easily the largest selection of back issues in town. Whenever I ask for a recommendation they always point me to the right stuff. All Ive got to say about people whining about not having prices on everything is when you have 50 thousand comic books and the prices change semi-frequently you may understand why. If you want to look for yourself, you can. If youre willing to wait a couple days, they will pull the issues and price them for you.

I was just here today and I love this place the owner is super knowledgeable and friendly....the passion for comics is this shops most endearing quality. He is not concerned with money or getting the most out of every deal the prices he quoted me r way under the market value for where I live and my jaw hit the floor to find out how badly other shops have treated me. I live 2hiurd away and will start making but weekly trips to his shop it will always be well worth the money and time. Also he is willing to mail and ship comics to you if u are not available to come get them.

Ive visited the store a few times and found him to be very rude and condescending (believe me, I have other words in mind, too). These folks are amazing! I came in looking for a trade from a small indie publisher, and – of course – they had it in stock. So I asked about “a book I remember from the early 70s or so, with the JLA or maybe JSA, also featuring the Legion of Substitute Heroes. Or at least Bouncing Boy. Superman, or maybe Superboy, was eaten by a dinosaur with Kryptonite teeth.” A couple minutes later he handed me a copy of Adventure Comics #280, from May of 1969. I had named the wrong comic, wrong super group, and wrong decade, but Bruce figured it out in just a couple of minutes. He had a copy of the 50 year old book I was looking for, and gave me a good deal. Great, great shop.

The place has a lot of back issues and trades but is very cramped. Theres a lot of stuff in the back rooms too if youre a serious collector. The employees also have a good opinions on whats good and what people like too. Ive been satisfied by most of their recommendations.I buy mostly trades, but their back-issues are in great shape despite being stored in stacks (bagged at least), prices are fair; another reviewer mentioned online is much cheaper but considering shipping and seller not knowing how to grade, this place is good.

For me, Capital City Comics is the platonic ideal of an LCBS. Bruce is an institution, and always handy with a recommendation or insight. This is a shop geared more towards the comic book lover than the comic book collector. If youre looking for a climate-controlled, antiseptic, slabbed and airtight experience, save yourself the trouble. CCCs philosophy seems to be geared towards the enthusiast, not the fetishist. As an enthusiast, I will tell you that I have never been to a comic book store that I like better.

I have been a customer of Capital City Comics for 42 years and Im writing this to clear something up about Back issue pricing at the store. Bruce has the second largest back stock of comic back issues in the us. Only Mile high has More. For all the reviews claiming there is no internet guy your wrong, Tim is his internet pricing guy (he does exist Surprise!) Bruce looks up books so that you the buyer get the current collector price up or down.Simply call before your trip and give them a list of books you need and when you show up your not obligated to buy anything and they will be ready to look over.He is the only store in Madison that has actual back issues on hand from golden, silver, copper, modern and current. No other comic store in madison has complete back issue runs and westfield has none.I personally have never seen him be anything but helpful to customers, but hey we all have bad days.

This is a Comic Book SHACK, owned by a Pink-Faced, Alcoholic, Used-Car Salesman. Ill explain...1) No Prices listed on any Back-Issues (so they can overcharge you)2) No Backing Boards on any Back-Issues (no respect for Product)3) No Catalog-System for Back-Issues. They are literally PILED on top of one another on shelves, VERTICALLY. (Repeat: VERTICALLY). If you want to find a certain issue, you have to first locate the correct PILE OF COMICS, then, REMOVE THE PILE OVER THE ONE YOURE LOOKING FOR, and then see if your Comic is there, while the ones in the stack youre holding are sliding off of each other, because there is nowhere to set them down. This is not an exaggeration. Its a ridiculous, gravity-involved process.4) The Store is so small, once 3 people are inside of it, you are bumping into one another. Seriously. Also, the place is so packed full of PILES of Product, you have to make sure you dont step on something as youre moving. Its one of the smallest Stores, of any type, that Ive ever seen. (I now understand what it must feel like to live with a Hoarder.) Comments that describe this place as epic, and awesome, the reason I came here, are laughable and dishonest. The place is not even functional. You wont be browsing anything, here.5) The Pricing System is run by the Owners Guy, hes got a Guy, and if that Guy isnt in the store, YOU CANT BUY ANYTHING. Yes thats correct. If his Pricing Guy isnt physically in the Store, you just wasted your entire trip, and the Alcoholic Owner will smile at you and tell you to just swing by and pick them up tomorrow. Absolutely unbelievable, but, its 100% true. Its a mess. (HINT: Its also a LIE. There is no Internet Guy or Pricing Guy. Its the Owner himself, who needs time to research individual prices and charge you as much as he thinks you will pay. I know this because the Owner wasnt there when I arrived, a Worker was, and when I tried to buy some Comics, the Worker told me the OWNER did the Pricing, then, the Owner arrived and told me he had a separate Pricing Guy. The idea that a Comic-Book Store OWNER would need a separate Pricing Guy is a complete and total farce! Fluid-Pricing is always the mark of a Scammer, Ive never seen ANY other Store that does it, and Im not even sure its legal.) Its also very difficult to find a Parking Spot in that neighborhood, near Downtown. In short, this is not a Comic-Book Store, its a Comic-Book SHACK, that is owned by a Troll who will approach you like Whos that Trip-Trapping in my Store...?, then show you his Personal Comic-Book Price-Guide he once had made...in 1994!!! Its repulsive. If you are looking for an absolutely TERRIBLE shopping experience, then, I HIGHLY recommend you pay a visit to Capital City Comics. While youre there, take a peek in the window next door, to see boxes of Comics, again, PILED on top of each other. The Owner doesnt respect his own product, so, dont be surprised when he doesnt respect you. Capital-City Comics is an embarrassment to the Comic-Book World, and in my opinion, deserves to be taken completely out of business, as the store only exists to trap and take advantage of people who love Comic Books. The Owner, Bruce, (the Alcoholic Troll), has obviously been lying to, and stealing from, people for years. Visit at your own risk.
