I had a wild rice burger and it was so good! The burger was perfectly seasoned and the tortilla chips that came with it was fantastic. My husband had Shakshuka which was delicious as well. We ordered some bakery items - Pineapple coconut quick bread and cherry scone. It was so yummy! When I went back to order some more bakery goods the restaurant had closed already. But they were very sweet and they gave the pineapple coconut cake for free. It was such a sweet gesture! I highly recommend this place. The food is very fresh and it’s locally sourced/organic which is just a cherry on top.

Lots to choose from! Vegan breakfast burrito is delicious. Some may complain about the price but i certainly dont mind paying a little extra to know that fellow service workers are taken care of and appreciated by their employer. As a fair wage establishment, they do not take tips here. Staff is friendly, food is great (lots of vegan options!) with excellent dine in and patio seating.

This is one of my favorite spots for a casual meal or to meet friends for coffee or tea. It is very much focused on local sourced food, and everything is house made and fresh. Something like 88% of their profits go to local charitable causes. If their prices seem a bit high, there’s two excellent reasons: no-tip policy, and they actually pay their employees’ health benefits.

I came here for Burger Night and man.... those burgers do not disappoint! Will definitely be coming back to try out their specialty burgers. The drinks and service are also top notch. This place was delicious! Everything that we got was great! I loved the online menu it made the whole experience quick and easy! The service was great! Im so happy they pay their employees enough that they dont accept tips! I didnt realize how stressful tipping was til I didnt have to! I hope more restaurants adopt this!

Great local coffee shop with delicious food options! They have unique latte flavors - I tried the salted caramel which was delicious! Pictured is the broccoli and tomato frittata and the farmers breakfast- both of which were excellent! They also have delicious gluten free bread. The food was lovely, the cafe had plenty of seating, and the service was fast and courteous. They modified my order (breakfast burrito with no black beans) easily. They have WiFi that worked well my entire visit. They are also a no tip business and Im a big fan of paying people enough that they dont need to rely on tips. Will definitely come back

Went to Common Roots for breakfast and coffee. I had their breakfast burrito which was quite tasty! It is pretty large, probably able to split it with another person if you arent too hungry. I tried their mocha which was also very good. They have a lot of good options for food and drinks there. The parking lot adjacent is also very handy if you can get a spot. It is worth a visit! The staff was also very friendly and helpful.

First time visit. Bagel and lox fantastic as was the lavender latte! Brisket breakfast sandwich was disappointing. The brisket was very tough and we couldnt even eat it. Service was fast, friendly and spot on! Will try this place and the brisket again though.

Not only does Common Roots provide amazing food, but their service is top-notch. All of our guests told us how much they enjoyed the appetizers, dinner, and snacks. We had such a positive experience working with Tiffany throughout our planning process. When the pandemic hit Minnesota, the Common Roots Catering team was flexible and very helpful as we had to replan most of our wedding. The day of catering team also did a great job dropping off the food and helping set up the quickly.

I hosted a house party and Common Roots was beyond helpful through the whole process. They made everything easy, helped me stick to my budget. They came and set up the food and the presentation was gorgeous. Everyone at the party raved about the food. The party was a couple months ago and I still get comments on how great the food was!

There are several reasons I love and support Common Roots Cafe. The food is locally sourced, organic, and fresh. They serve Peace coffee. The atmosphere has a great, upbeat energy. THEY PAY THEIR STAFF A LIVING WAGE. And, they support issues surrounding social justice!!! ✊🏼❤️

Disability parking is available in the small parking lot adjacent to the cafe. Wheelchair access may be problematic. Prices are expensive yet not if you consider employees are paid fair wages and tips are included in the price of food and drinks. I appreciated that it was a quiet place without music playing.

Weve visited several times and it has always been fantastic. They offer a great brunch menu and Ive had those as well as their cranberry Turkey sandwich. We live how they include tips in their prices and also are frequently featured in the Chinook Book that would pay for itself within two visits. Would recommend!

Went here for brunch and ended up getting a burger which was on this delicious everything bagel inspired bread and ended my meal with a salted chocolate chip cookie! I ate everything and cannot complain at all about the food. The prices were a little steeper than I would have expected for a fast casual restaurant. But- they dont endorse tipping and have increased prices to pay fair wages. What a great concept! So I am all in for paying an extra dollar or two more. The only thing I was less than impressed about was the ambiance and seating. It really wasnt special inside and didnt reflect their menu or their general vibe. But I would go back if I was in the area and wanted a quick bite!

Always delightful. One of the staff overheard me wondering what to have, considering the grass fed burger. She assured me I wanted the burger, and she was correct! Freaking awesome. And the potato wedges were just sick (as in good). Additionally, Common Roots pays their staff a living wage, so no tipping.

Really good coffee and bagel. Plus they source local. They say their stuff is priced to provide a good wage for their workers but it didnt cost me more than other places. Im changing my route to work so I can stop here more often.

Common Roots catered dinner for our small Covid-friendly wedding. They did a contactless drop off, and the instructions for assembling the chafing dishes were clear and easy to follow. All the plates and utensils they provide are compostable, so they make it possible to have a very low-waste event. The food was great, generally (maybe skip the green beans, as they weren’t memorable, but the lasagna, grilled chicken with pineapple salsa, and rice pilaf were great, and the coconut macaroons are enormous), and they even supplied trash bins and compostable bags to collect all the food and plates/utensils. They came the next day to pick everything up, including the compost, which was so convenient. They also answered our endless questions about details. A great experience!

Just incredible. Everyone is always so pleasant, prices are transparent, and a large portion of what you spend goes into the local economy. This place is truly a gem and demonstrates that private businesses can do more than exploit their workers and rip off their customers. This place is an anchor to the community for its social values and ethical practices AND everything looks, tastes, and feels good. Ill be back often.

We were told that this place has the best bagels in Minneapolis. It might be true but not close to the best ones I have had in other cities. Due to covid 19 we picked up the order curb side without having pre-ordered. The staff was very gracious and kind. We will go back for patio seating breakfast.

Common Roots Cafe is a really nice neighborhood coffee shop with particularly good food options. I have been here many times for community group meetings in there group room. If you have need of a large conference room this is likely a great option. With the food and drink selection it is super convenient place to meet up at.

This place has the best bagels. I met a friend there for lunch and they have something for everyone. Its a good place to go whatever your diet and its always got a cozy, welcoming vibe. My favorite is the bagel cheeze sandwich. I have been there three times and have liked it every visit.

I had the breakfast burrito and cold press coffee at about 8:30 on a Saturday morning.The burrito was really well balanced with no one ingredient nor the sauce playing center stage. The eggs, cheese, herbs, potatoes, peppers, and sauce each added its own flavor. The coffee was solid and, while I got it iced, Id be curious to see if it would pop even more of served slightly closer to room temperature.Overall, a really solid place to go for fresh, local, and healthy food.

Healthy versions of your favorite foods from local suppliers and farmers. Not the best, burgers are a little dry, unless you go for the bagels or the hash (extra yum). Peace coffee, meh. Great staff, friendly and helpful. Very busy on the weekends, but that is the norm, if a place is dead on Saturday, beware. It would be 4 stars, but they charge almost $8 dollars for a bowl of oatmeal (mixed grain cereal), that is a rip-off.

Emphasis on cafe. Not just a place for coffee and tea. Although, both are great here. Food menu has a surprising amount of options, hot and cold. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner fare can be found here. If you really need a place to study all day, this place would be a great option. Can get busy in the evening, but most patrons respect the quiet atmosphere that the establishment facilitates.

Meet a friend here almost weekly. Recently had some of the best Broccoli Cheddar soup I have ever had. I usually just go there for tea and a place to chat. Always busy, but never overcrowded. They have an outdoor patio that is great in the summer. Have just gone to no tipping by increasing hourly wages for their staff. Refreshing.

Heres the deal. The prices are a bit high, but they pay their workers a fair wage. Many reviews note how the staff can be a bit surly or rude. I have experienced as much rudeness here as anywhere else, despite the fact that they arent working for tips. So sometimes it just depends. Over all, staff has been quite friendly, though sometimes terse. But I come for the food, and the food is good. Its unique. Its creative. The menu changes. And it slams with flavor.

The prices were reasonable as well and the best part is the tip is included in the food price, so you dont have to tip. I was there on a Tuesday night for the first time and will definitely go back. Even though it was crowded, my friend and I were able to get a table and enjoyed a couple of beers in the nice atmosphere. I thought it was casual with a mixed crowd of couples, friends, and students reading and working, so the noise level was just fine. The staff was friendly enough--I really didnt experience any rude treatment like some other reviewers have talked about.All in all, a nice evening at a cool place.

Love this place, best tofu scramble Ive ever had! I got the root hash with tofu instead of eggs. Sister and husband liked my tofu better than their eggs.

This delightful cafe is a great, but busy, place to enjoy breakfast and lunch. The wifi is not reliable enough to make this a good place to work, but it is normally very busy and camping out isnt typically a good idea. I really like the eco-conscious and local focus of the cafe. I have ordered a hot drink that came, strangely, in a glass instead of a mug, but I appreciate the emphasis on sustainability.

Tasty! This is a great spot to hang out with friends or get some work done, with both inside and outside seating and a sizable (for Uptown) dedicated parking lot. They have a larger menu than your typical coffee shop, with healthy breakfast and lunch options. They offer tap beer and a few cocktails, and serve Peace Coffee. I enjoyed my bagel breakfast sandwich, and appreciate that they offer turkey sausage. My only complaint is they let the coffee carafes run dry... on a Sunday morning. That was a bummer.

My husband and I went here for a leisurely breakfast. Its the type of place where you place your order and then find a table. We both had the egg biscuits and they were amazing - so light and fluffy. We also purchased the chocolate chip cookies with crushed pretzels and sugar cones.

Not sure what the appeal of this place is. There were no gluten free or vegan options in the bakery case, and the only non-dairy options for creamer were soy or oat. Paid $10+ for self-serve coffee and a large latte that honestly did not taste worth $10.

When I visited common Roots Cafe I was here during a promotional event put on by State Farm Insurance. We were able to order anything food-wise from the menu for free. I didnt get exactly what I ordered however the breakfast burrito that I did get was incredibly well-made and delicious. They tend to offer more organic fair-trade and local Foods which obviously would cost more so if you are happy to pay higher prices for such amenities in your meal this is a great place to eat.

Great! Just went in for a quick breakfast. Had a delicious everything bagel. I was able to get 2 different spreads on it as well because of the nice employees helping me out. Garden vegetable I think was one and raspberry the other? Both good!

Im a huge fan of their breakfast burrito. Prices are high, but they do explain why on the menu. I gave only 3 stars for a few reasons. They need to put more effort into cleanliness- the water glasses that they keep out in the open always look and feel dirty and the tables are often greasy, not thoroughly wiped down. Also, very uncomfortable seating, and as others have mentioned here, the staff can be very condescending and short with you. Please understand that not everyone is a regular and knows what they want or how the ordering works here (which can be confusing at first). Its okay to smile and be lighthearted.

I had the farmer’s breakfast which was fantastic. Great hash browns. Amazing pumpkin seed toast. I personally would have liked a larger portion, but I think it was an appropriate healthy meal.

Very ethical operation, with wonderful staff and a great menu. Caters to craft beer snobs, meat lovers, vegetarians, all alike. I dont know much about wine, but they do offer a fairly wide selection. HH deals were excellent on drinks and share plates.

Didnt get a chance to explore it much since I was in a conference room they had but tried a bagel with some cream cheese and I must say it was pretty darn good. Not even toasted was it but still great. The lady that was at the counter when we were leaving was super helpful and so the epxerience overall was really good but cant speak much to a normal visit.

I decided to stop in for a bagel and coffee on my day off. Ive lived a few blocks away from this place for years...I dont know what took me so long. As someone who grew up in New Jersey I havent been able to find a place with bagels that live up to my expectations for years. This bagel was really really good! The cold press coffee I had was delicious as well.The woman who took my order was also very kind.Highly recommend!
