Great atmosphere, great selection, and great staff. Dont come here on a budget though. They source locally and lean towards healthier selections but this does boost the costs making it pretty pricey. Make sure to pick and choose but you can find some produce here at cheaper prices and fresher than big y or stop n shop.
Agree about the poor bathrooms!tiny sink faucet with a short timer and too close to the sink (causes icky hand to sink touches), no paper towels amidst COVID (dont need air blowing about germs), and the miserly toilet paper dispenser are all far too poor quality for a store that charges this much. The staff dont take feedback well either, we have noticed.Otherwise good selection of organic and local fare and support for the co-op format keeps us as members, but these issues should be fixed. And please work out a better system for queuing in line because it becomes chaotic when people dont know to line up in 1 feeder line. Better signage is needed, at least.
I really appreciate that I can get groceries curbside and pay with EBT. And that they carry items from local farms!
Great selection of natural foods. Nice wine section, yummy deli and even amazing sushi. I love river valley co-op. They also have neat cards and other gift items. Staff is very friendly and helpful.
Had to use the restroom which was completely disgusting and had no toilet paper or paper towels. I let an employee know and she gave me a snarky attitude and rolled her eyes and replied ok. Hopefully the cleanliness of the restrooms doesnt reflect the cleanliness of the food prep areas, wont be going back to find out!
Love this Co op. Visit here from Connecticut monthly and the Co op is always my first stop. Promise to join soon ❤
Best coop within a 50 mile radius. I live in Brattleboro and whenever I am in Noho I stop, even if I dont need groceries. The selection is phenomenal for such a small space, whoever does the buying is doing a fantastic job.
Love their food and organic options. Their coop sales are great as well. The employees are very friendly and I love their smoothies and deli area for sandwiches or pizza. Also they have awesome cowboy cookies .
Butchers will go out of their way to offer you great cuts, tonight I couldn’t find a flat iron and one of the butchers took the time to cut one fresh for me, those little touches mean a lot
I love the Co-op! I recently moved back to the Pioneer Valley and couldn’t feel more welcome. Everyone I’ve come across is professional and friendly. I’ll admit the food is on the pricer side, however, you can NOT go wrong shopping here. Especially if you want fairly inexpensive takeout. The Chipotle Chicken Wings are my favorite! Buy a stalk of celery, drinks (non alcoholic and alcoholic beverages) and you’re set! 😊
Its not bad but more than I want to spend. I did vet a few things!
Great prices...beautiful selection and great food educated helpful staffA wonderful shopping experience
Every time I make the trip from Virginia to visit my awesome local cousins, this is a must-do visit to load up with local goodness for our trip back home. Great selection of delicious food and helpful, friendly staff!
The people in the River Valley Coop are always the friendliest people. They always have the things I need at the Coop
Love the atmosphere here...need to open up Saturday nights in the parking lot to live music and arts
Food was excellent and so were the people who worked there. Very nice and helpful.
Love this place! Enjoy each time I go. Healthy and authentic
Fantastic store, packed with lots of quality products. Great fish, meats, wines, and cheeses. Their fruits and veggies are also excellent. Very friendly customer service every time I’ve gone in. Highly recommend supporting this local business.
Tyler just made me the best. sandwich. ever! Thanks River Valley for all that you do!
Bins of grains and granola, jars of spices and a row of coffee bean options await. Went in for oregano and came out with celery, sushi and a baby stag horn fern. Stopped to look at the great artisanal cheese display. Holidays are coming, Ill be back for Four Fat Fowl, a creamy brie. Easy to find, parking lot has great view to the east (Rt. 91 & Connecticut River) Sit and have quick bite in or outside, grab and go or stroll the isles. Clean, fresh produce, well stocked. Friendly, thanks cheese guys.
Great little store. Stopped by here twice while visiting VT. Saturday morning, met a friendly curly blonde, super nice and friendly. Sunday morning came at 10:30am, not a courteous staff.
The best co-op I have experienced in yearsThe produce is mostly local, grains and seeds from multiple sourcesAn incredible granola selection, coffee bean selection, grind your own peanut or almond butterGenerous sandwichesVegan, vegetarian, organic consumers will be overwhelmed! If you are driving on 91, stop and see a wonderful place, eat really well and save a bundle at the same time!
I love the River Valley Coop. Their wine and cheese selection is exquisite. They make the BEST sausage EVER!!. If you want a snack, head on down and pick up a fresh sandwich or some sushi YUM!
Good selection available, great place for some odd items, found customer service to be great on my visit today
My first time at the co op, definatly has become my most favorite place to shop, the quality, and the staff running it all, so nice, helpful and knowledgeable. Truly 100% awesome!!!!
By far my favorite grocery store of all time. They have a nice variety of wholesome food that you can’t find anywhere else. Little pricey but you get what you pay for!
This is my idea of a great food store. It is community oriented in many ways. The staff treats one another well, and is very helpful.Wonderful local and organic produce. An excellent meat department, fresh bread, fabulous cheese and other dairy products. Then you have health, supplement and and beauty products which are sensitive to the environment, and peoples needs. This store has been highly attentive to the covid 19 realities, and they continue to work hard to provide good protection.Thank you!John
Excellent produce and a great bulk section. With a little extra effort you can also do major bulk orders that bring your costs easy down. We also love their prepared foods for a treat after were done shopping.
Rarely do I find everything I need at just one grocery store, let alone one that isnt part of a big corporate chain. River Valley Co-op has it all, and everything is of excellent quality and surprisingly affordable. The staff is super friendly and helpful too. I was so impressed the first time I shopped there that I immediately purchased a share of the co-op. I simply cant recommend this place highly enough.
Excellent variety and quality. Great staff. Very safety minded. Wine selection is very good
I always have such a lovely experience in here. The staff are very covid concious, and all carts are cleaned before use. There is mainly an organic selection. I like utilizing their bulk section though. It has a lot of cereal, nuts, grains, spices, and the list goes on. Very good for low/zero waste individuals. You can bring your own containers at this time. When shopping during the pandemic, Id try to choose a time that isnt so busy. The aisles are quite narrow and it is a tight maze to get though when you have a store full of people.
I love river valley.
Friendly and helpful staff. Great selection of organic and local!
A great selection of organic foods (not everything is organic). Their vegetables are super even in the dead of winter. They buy from a lot of local farmers. Nice selection of wines and good seafood. Sandwich counter. Lots of alternative foods. Very helpful staff. Not inexpensive but a good value.
A comprehensive albeit pricey place for groceries
They have a ton of local options and even though they’re not huge, we often find something special and new to us
Great local foods, drinks, and everything else. The staff are very knowledgeable and friendly. Definitely recommend this place over whole foods or other stores
I went there for the first time ever and it was terrible. I waited 20+ mins for a smoothie. They made the smoothie with the completely wrong ingredients (I asked for strawberry and got a pineapple) and the staff was rude.
The best burger ever!
Unique health food store with lots of fun foods too. Nice and helpful staff.
Had specific things in mind but not met this particular trip. We were hoping for a basque sandwich but not an option. Love their gluten free carrot cake and always look forward to buying a slice but again not this time. I could have bought a whole cake but its too much for one person. However that wont stop me from going back and trying again.
Always very friendly staff, helpful as can be; large selection of natural foods and drinks; would recommend
Fantastic local coop grocer with friendly staff, cool and clean environment and amazing healthy and local selections.
Great coop with excellent produce among many other things. An excellent local business to support that supports you!
Great place to and grab a fresh snack, lunch, and dinner( I always get some seaweed) ;) also best place to shop
Great supermarket delicious food, amazing vibes, great staff
My favorite grocery store.
A great local grocery store friendly atmosphere cool products
Love this place! Its very organized and had everything I was looking for!!! It smelt AMAZING in there and all of the staff were very nice and helpful
Staff are helpful and pleasant, produce is always fresh and sourced locally, and prices always reasonable. Hands down my most favorite grocery store to shop in!
I find Im loving this place more & more! There are wonderful products at reasonable prices, and the staff couldnt be nicer or more helpful!Im very impressed by their attention to covid safety, too.
An oasis. It has most of the products Ive had a hard time finding in this part of the country, fresh, organic fruit and veg, and helpful staff in abundance.
Best decision we have made was to become members. The best quality organic vegetables. Proteins are locally sourced and amazing. Quality sustainable fish. They have also helped me with my goal to create my own cleaning products with essential oils. If you care what you put on or in your body shop somewhere that also cares
Best coop with all the bells and whistles. Fresh and clean produce. Well stocked
River Valley Co-Op has been a staple of Northampton since it opened. The staff here are obviously treated well, because theyre consistently some of the nicest and most helpful people Ive ever had the pleasure of shopping with! All of the food from the deli and hot bar is excellent, not to mention the massive amount of variety available to choose from in the packaged food department. It doesnt even cost significantly more than shopping at a big name supermarket.Eat local, support local, and put your money where your mouth is!
Excellent variety of fresh fruits and vegetables. Meats, beer, bread and herbal teas and coffee just some of the foods I regularly buy every visit. The staff are very helpful and friendly.
Ultimate ethical grocery store, but also very overpriced. I hope the employees are making at least $25 an hour at the gouged price of almost every product, but especially in the botanical / soap etc. aisle. Waspy vibes to the point that you just want to get out as quickly as possible. Long lines. Great bulk dried goods section.
Great assortment of local produce, meat and other foods. They have a hot bar and deli for quick meals. Their sandwiches and sushi are amazing. Bulk nuts, grains, herbs, tea. Definitely worth stopping by if you are in the area.
Has all the things I need in terms of spices, coffee and great cheese selection.
Its a little pricey but the place is very nice. Lots of options. Very clean and organized. Overall really enjoyed my experience and plan on going again.
Customers and staff are polite and kind. Large assortment of organic, vegan and vegetarian foods. Also buy in bulk. A great place. I love this store.
A great alternative to Amazon-run Whole Foods. A little small, so best to shop at off hours. The bulk section is awesome, and great for saving on plastic. Im not a fan of the guy who runs Grace Hill farm so I try to avoid places who sell his cheese, but there are enough less shady local business being represented, so Im happy with the selection overall.
More of whst you did not know you want and local farms of all types represented. Different and welcomed
Love this place! People are friendly, food is fantastic and the choices for fresh, local foods is second to none.
I love the selection of bulk items to choose from.
Great selection of local produce, meats natural/organic products. Beans from several local coffee roasters, with full descriptions. Also hot food bar with menu available online, and variety of prepared-to-order selections, including a terrific grass-fed beef burger. Also lots of vegan/vegetarian choices. Worth getting to know
Love this place!
Beautiful store, healthy food and products. Its nice to have a store i can shop at and trust the products.
This is a food coop that is open to the public. The idea of selling locally grown or made foods and products are a focus of this store. But it is really a large market with many varieties of products. Buying small quantities is easy here as there is less packaging. You can buy 1 mushroom, 2 brussel sprouts, 3 tomatoes or 4 potatoes. Maybe 3 ounces of walnuts? Bulk items are in abundance. There is a butcher shop, wine selection, amazing bread area and many gluten free products. Hot meals or salad bar by the pound and hot coffee. Its all nicely laid out with areas to eat.
I was just passing through. Loved the atmosphere. There were live musicians playing from the balcony. The shelves seem pretty well stocked and they had what I was looking for.
It’s a treasure... look forward to going again
I wish I made more money so I could shop here all the time! Its not because ALL their products are too expensive...their produce is as reasonably priced as Trader Joes and there is more variety and a good portion is local. That said, its definitely easy to spend $100 and wonder what happened. Thats mostly to blame on the boxed and prepared goods, of which there are many. Stay out of the middle aisles and youll be very pleased by what you end up witu! And check out the chicken backs and feet from Diemand Farms in the very back right corner if you want to make an amazing bone broth for low moneys.
This place is the most wonderful co-op in all of New England! The options try to be as local as possible (a trend in other grocery stores nearby as well), even if prices are a smidge higher than the Big Y down the street. I could have spent hours walking down the aisle. Particularly a huge fan of the spice selection, where you can bag and grind your own spices right out of the dispensary. Theres outdoor seating for grab-and-go items, although parking is a bit of a problem as it seems its too popular for its own good. Hopefully that will in the coming year!
This place is great when you really need something that they dont have on hand. They go out of their way to make sure they have it for you. We order bulk items from them all the time and they always make sure that we get a great price and have our items when we need them. You can always count on the Produce manager to get you the good stuff. :DThe store is always clean and well stocked. The food always looks fresh and smells great in the prepared section. The breads are fresh also. The store is pretty visually appealing. This is a good place to shop if you can get out to its location. There is no sidewalk to the store and it can be VERY DANGEROUS to walk to it. The people coming down route 5 from Hatfield can easily hit you as you walk. The PVTA also cancelled the only bus that went to the store.PLEASE LOBBY NORTHAMPTON FOR A SIDEWALK FROM WALMART TO RIVER VALLEY COOP :D!!!
Fantastic grocery store with a very good deli and sushi counter. Great sustainable harvest fish, organic produce and a good selection of meat (grass fed, and organic)
I love this place! Organic local produce plus all kinds of healthy food, and cosmetics. Atmosphere is chill and the people who work there are really friendly and knowledgeable. I highly recommend River Valley if you want a huge selection of healthy organic foods.
They are doing the best job with covid-19 precautions. Respect!
Great selection of whole foods great service.
Awesome great friendly staff, clean and organized, great selections of beer/wine, amazing cheese section, great place to go if you have a food allergy given their wide selection of gluten free, lactose free, vegan/vegetarian foods. Delicious prepared foods. Great in-house made food on the self serve hot/cold bars. Good deli selection. Awesome juice bar. Only drawback for me is its very expensive, Id shop here every time I went out for groceries if I could afford it.
Great selection for natural products
Very pleasant place to shop. Produce, meat and dairy are priced reasonable for the quality. Especially for the meat youre getting humanely raised, pasture fed and often organic; so its more expensive than factory farmed. The produce is fresher than in the normal grocery store. Any kind of boxed or bottled good is going to be frightfully expensive but the quality is great. The staff is friendly, thoughtful and helpful.
Makes shopping a much more tolerable experience than the standard supermarket. Staff is helpful and knowledgeable beyond just telling you this or that is in aisle 7. If youre only shopping for price there are plenty of other options. If you value supporting the area, and taste its hard to beat. If you shop smart and eat well they arent more expensive then other places. If youre truly comparing apples to apples this is one of the best.
My favorite place for produce and meat. Always super fresh and well displayed.
Local and thoughtful. Very strict COVID cleaning
Terrific selection and super friendly and helpful staff. Other area co-ops take note!
The idea of shopping at a Coop may seem strange to some, but in Northampton there have been food cooperatives around since the mid 1960s when I was growing up. I had never joined one myself until recently when I joined the River Valley Coop. Now this is not my mothers coop of years ago, where everything looked like it had been brought in on a wheelbarrow straight from the field. It looks, feels and smells like a modern market, which it truly is. I find the variety of produce excellent and super fresh, the range of products from meats to tofu to prepared dishes to be very broad for a market that isnt quite as vast as the food warehouses of major chains. Local sourcing is one key to making this work - we have some of the most fertile farms and orchards around and everything is amazingly good when so fresh!
Nice grocery store, with decent prices and very good produce. The place is a little small, with a smaller selection of items than your larger supermarkets. Parking is limited and it can be troublesome at times to pull out into traffic, on Rte 5 & 10, especially turning left to head north.
No bulk honey tonight, but everything else was ok. Nice staff as always. Unfortunately I have cancer AND a limited budget, so Ive been shopping more at Trader Joes (sorry!) lately, so was a bit stunned @ the nearly $200 price tag -- nevertheless, I do want to support local businesses when I can, like most folks I know. Keep up the great work!
Seems to always be a little too crowded for my tastes. Hot bar is great. Deli is wonderful. Lots of options for people with restrictive diets. Love the local produce available. Their gluten free pumpkin cheesecake is a yearly holiday tradition!
Beautiful store with a mix of modern & country store decorating. Their selection of bulk items is really amazing, & they have a wide selection of ready made foods as well. There are wines & fine cheeses, green cleaning & health aides as well. The staff is friendly & knowledgeable
Beautiful produce all year round. This is where I come got the highest quality groceries of all types. It isnt cheap, but its the best.Their prepared foods are great. Get a sandwich while youre here. I recommend the grass-fed beef burgers. I also enjoy the pickles you get at the deli counter.
Great grocery - a miniature Whole Foods Market, but better. The store tries to sell as much local produce as they can. A large selection of organic produce. Nice salad bar and hot bar. Good baked goods, bread from several different local sources.
Love the store, local produce and many hard to find ingredients
Love it! Not cheap but dont you think its worth your health to eat quality food.
River View Coop is mainly a wonderful grocery store, but for me it was the best possible place to get wholesome tasty food while on the road. I was spending the night in Northampton, and went there for dinner and breakfast. I was absolutely delighted. The food was delicious and there was a lot of choice, served by people who seemed to be enjoying themselves. They have an area set aside with tables and chairs for those who choose to eat there. And the cost was not much more than at a fast food joint. A real find!!!
What a fantastic store! Great products, high quality foods, delicious deli, coffees, juices, produce, bulk, and more! The staff is really friendly. And its locally owned by the shoppers. Best co-op around. Period.
