I couldn’t be anymore thankful for GalaTec in Oak Park. My computer was practically dead and was scheduled through Apple to get it fixed. They were quick. Professional. Extremely considerate on the sensitivity of my time. They got me back up and running in no time. I am super grateful!! Thank you guys!
Buster & Alan are so helpful and professional. They are so kind and they were quick to find solutions for me and my laptop. I was referred here through Apple Support online to get my battery replaced and I was skeptical at first, never having gone to a store that wasnt Apple itself, but it turned out to be a big blessing!
I bought a mocha screen protector and case from here and then a few months later they were able to replace the screen for free. and the case cracked once and it was replaced for free!
This place is absolutely amazing! I brought my phone here because I absolutely need it for work and cant go a day without it. The guys here were very understanding and were willing to squeeze me in to help me out. I waited for a little while and they were able to get me all taken care of the same day.I recommend that anyone that is having a problem with their phone bring here for repairs. They are very knowledgeable and extremely nice guys that just want to help.Ill recommend all my friends and family to come here first. Thanks guys!
Fast, efficient and friendly service. They saved me a lot of money and the agony of buying a new laptop.
The Gala tech folks are friendly and helpful. I came in with an I phone issue which caused my phone not to work at all and they fixed it in five minutes at no charge. This is how they treat their repeat customers: with care and support. I will always go here for repairs and support Thanks gala tech!
I had my iPhone battery repaired by them today. Great customer service while setting up the appointment. They were very friendly when I went in and had my phone done on time. It was nice to have it go so quickly compared to long waits at Apple stores. I will definitely keep them in mind for any future needs!
These guys are terrific. They fixed a lap top which the Lincoln Park Apple store misdiagnosed, and wanted to take five days to repair. Gala-Tec took 60 minutes and charged half the price!
When I initially came into the store I was greeted pretty good staff was nice and informative then the owner of the store came out and I completely tuned around about this place. I will say this make sure what you purchase is exactly what you want because you can not return anything in this store which is completely against Apples policy
This is a high service Mac boutique. the owners will take as long as you need to provide you with all of the different options that inform making your purchase decision. A wealth of information to be had here.
Had same experience as another reviewer. Stopped at Apple and they diagnosed the issue. Said it would be $475 and 5-7 days to fix. Called Gala Tec who refused to offer a ballpark estimate to fix the issue as described but did say they could fix in 2-3 days. The catch was we would have to pay the $50 diagnostic fee before they could offer a full estimate. After we did pay the fee they came back with $800 to fix the exact same thing that Apple would fix cheaper. Like the other review, save the $$$ and go straight to Apple. We wanted to shop local but not for more than 50% higher.
Wonderful experience! The facility is clean and well maintained. I walked in for a phone charging problem I didn’t know was a quick fix, and they solved it right then and there for no charge! The staff is friendly and informative, I will definitely be giving Gala-Tec my service the next time I come across any technology needs
Im not sure why Apple gives you the option to take your devices or product to this location. The older gentleman is rude and doesnt care to hear the problem. I took my phone and he cut me short. He said, I needed to go to the Apple store. It was my first time trying this location and I will NEVER will go back. I took my magic keyboard and he refused to lookup the warranty. Save your time and go straight to the Apple store...
A great place to do businessThis is the type of place to go if you’re having issues with your phoneLots of people make the mistake of becoming “tech experts” reading online threads. In order to know exactly what the issue is, your device must be diagnosed then all available options for you will be explained.Quick service and great pricing make an appointment you won’t be disappointed!
I don’t ever really have issues when dealing with Apple products, but with time, as usual, batteries decline with time and use. I had an iPhone SE that only needed a new battery seeing that there was a power drain issue. I contacted Apple Support who advised me that the closest location for a repair shop was this shop. They told me there was no appointment needed so the next time I was off I went to the shop. Unfortunately, the drive to and from was longer than the actual time I was in the shop. I was told that they did NOT take walk-ins and they would NOT replace the iPhone SE battery because “the battery stickers Apple sent...” blah blah blah. In short, I went to a real Apple store and had the battery replaced on site. Not sure why Apple certified them to do repairs if they flat out refused to repair a product...like many other reviews said, skip the third party and go straight to Apple, even if it is a bit out of the way (or you can even mail in your device!).
Great and helpful place. They were able to diagnose my phone issue quickly. Great people overall and wonderful to chat with. Wait time was a little bit but they were being through with other customers which i can appricate.
Brought my iPhone in because it wasnt charging, turned out to be just blockage in the port from working as a carpenter. They told me this honestly and did not charge me anything. Working like a charm now. Quick and friendly service.
My phone wouldnt turn so I went on Apples website to search for locations. I seen this location had closer dates available even though it wasnt that close I was willing to make the drive. My phone hasnt turned on in 3 days. I drove 45 minutes and I was there for only about 5 minutes!!! They took my phone to the back and came back saying it was the charger port. They advised me Apple would charge 299 for a new port! So I ended going to a computer repair store near my home only to find out it was the battery!!! How couls one of manufacturers branches misdiagnose there own freaking product!!! Or is it they just didnt feel like doing their job! Whatever the case, I wasted time and gas! Im very unhappy especially being that Im constantly buying Apple products!!!!
Honest and good quality advice.
I bought an iPhone 5 months ago, and now the screen is unresponsive and has a black spot. I went to Gala-Tec for convenience, but now I regret it. The man there was rude to say the least, and basically accused me of lying—I told him the screen stopped working and he wouldnt believe that I didnt damage it myself. Anyways, Im pretty sure the older gentleman has been working in this business for too long because he is short, sharp, doesnt listen, and seems irritated at his job.Honestly, just go to the Apple Store. They are always kind and helpful, not grumpy and worn out like this guy was.*Added 06/17/2019*Went to apple, they warrantied the phone free of charge. It was not due to damage. Like I said, do not visit Gala-Tec.
Really great persons and great tech place, I never had such awesome hospitality people. They took care of my query with frequent follow up and updates. Could not imagine someone could be like them too.
Brought my 6 year old iMac in for repair (new hard drive) right when the store opened at 10am and it was finished and ready to go by noon. Highly recommend bringing whatever you need serviced to this place. Very friendly and reasonably priced.
I showed up an hour and 10 minutes before closing time and I was refused service even though the store was empty no other customer. I feel like that was terrible customer service. I rushed over right after work just to not receive help.
Very helpful and nice, friendly people!
I received insanely great customer service. I highly recommend Gala-Tec to anyone. My computer was very slow. I called Apple, and they referred me to Gala-Tec. I was worried they would not be able to help me fix my laptop. Within less than 24 hours my laptop was fixed and I was able to meet my deadline. Buster did an incredible job with replacing the hard drive and migrating all the data in one piece. The other thing I really liked about this company is their respect and consideration for data security. Highly recommend!
I took my laptop into this authorised apple establishment for repair and was charged $430 to replace the backlight.I was given a call 2 days later to let me know that the computer was irreparably damaged, I was told I was out of luck and hey, these things happen. They absolutely refused to offer me any no d of comps station and tried very hard to passive aggressively suggest it was my fault.they misdiagnosed the problem and destroyed the laptop which was in their care: please do Not Make the same mistake I made, go to thr genius bar and dont bother with these people
We were visiting Chicago and we needed assistance with our Apple product. Allan was extremely helpful and very pleasant to chat with. We would highly recommend Gala-Tec!!!
PHENOMENAL!!!! Andy and the staff are GREAT!! Turn around time was SHOCKING!!! Drop off at 10 am on a Saturday...received a call to pick up at 3:11 pm ...on the same day!!! My apple product has a new life! THANK YOU GALA-TEC!!! I am HAPPY.....
My daughters iPhone5 had water damage and was acting up. Buster diagnosed the problem, and then gave us an honest review. Was it worth fixing an older version of the iPhone when telecommunication companies were essentially giving it away for free with a new contract? I didnt know what to do....I hated the idea of forking out $$$ for an iPhone 6 knowing that in a few weeks the price of iPhone 6s would decrease when the iPhone 7 is released. Buster thought for a moment, excused himself, and came back with his old iPhone 5. He understood our conundrum and said he hadnt touched his iPhone 5 in a year. We could have it for a very reasonable price. He erased his data, inserted my daughters SIM card, and we were set! This is an example of the very personal attention this family-owned business provides. Lets support this great Oak Park business!
Buster is outstanding! He was extremely patient and took the time to show me how to transfer my huge iphoto library to my external drive and to update it for Photos. El Capitan and I are now in sync and I am thrilled to gain the storage space on my Hard Drive ; ) Thank you so very much Buster!!!
Best experience ever. Found them on the apple website while trying to make an appointment to see a genius. Decided on this place to avoid the craziness of an apple store in the mall. Fixed my macbook pro in two days under applecare warranty :). No hassle at all.
We brought in our very old iMac. It had died and we were sure we would lose all of our files including baby photos etc... They fixed it, quickly and for a reasonable cost. Could not be happier!
I am writing a rave review for Gala-Tec. Like so many people I needed to get a new battery for my IPhone and Apple had set up a complex registration system to get an appointment.I had it on my to do list and happened to park in front of their store yesterday while running errands. I decided to ask for help registering and when I went in they offered to do the update right away because of a cancellation. This included a diagnostic check of the phone as well as the new battery. They answered all my questions and even explained why they hadn’t been able to resolve an earlier problem I had with another device.I am so glad to have this resource right here in Oak Park! Thank you, Gala-Tec
Worked with me to solve a real mystery. Took a couple of tries, but got everything up and running with some newer options.Very pleased, and will be depending on Gala Tec for all my future Apple needs.
An Apple Store, but better. A lot better. I had a Late-2012 iMac that was suffering from a failing hard drive. Being a former Apple Genius I looked up the repair procedure and after one look I said to myself, Forget that. I found Gala-Tec through Apple support who had Gala listed as a top tier support provider. They threw in a solid state drive and had it back to me the same day. An Apple store will not install parts like that. Insanely happy with the customer service and the turnaround. Great people to work with.
Gala-Tec repair policies are deceptive. They charge $50 for diagnostics which they will credit if you have them repair the product. I paid the $50 and then Gala-Tec notified me that it would cost $200 more for them to repair the laptop than Apple. The technician recommended that I go directly through Apple. Of course, Gala-Tec kept the $50 to diagnose a known problem. Moral of story, save your $50 and skip this middleman - go directly through Apple.
They take the time to explain everything openly and honestly. They care about you and don’t pressure you into any sales. Their top priority is truley customer service.
Gala-Tec is basically an Apple Store in oak park. They are an apple authorized provider which means they are trained and certified to service all apple products. Beware older products they might not be able to service so call ahead to see. The tech here was patient and helpful. For some reason they could not get a computer in stock they promised the day before a flight. Disappointing but ended up calling apple and using my business discount so it ended up better. If you cant stand apple lines, need to buy or service an apple product. Look no further
I know these folks for years. They are GREAT advisors; dont play games for profits. And you can trust them w/repairs. BTW, dont hesitate to call if youre out-of-state. They helped us first in NYC, now in MD. --Wendy Meyeroff, WM Medical Communications.
This place is absolutely horrible, staffed by incompetence on their best day.Mind you, we were looking for another store that used to be here (see end of review)... but they were the new store.Had a simple repair... hard drive acting flaky, computer was old, but it had personal value. They tried to fix it but couldnt, replaced the hard drive after up sell to solid state (totally unnecessary and no value). After doing the work, they found a bad battery which had to be replaced. Up sold again... have to have a working battery. Now we show up a week later to pick up the computer... guess what... it doesnt work. They look at it, wait the NEW battery they put in was leaking into the computer! They tried to make it out fault for not coming immediately to pick it up (we were gone and told them that ahead of time). Now, they take it to the back and replace the new broken battery with a new battery and bring it out. Look it works! Nope... mouse is now broken. They jacked that up too. Cant figure out why.Now this is silly. I tell them I dont wan their tech in the computer and I want the computer back. They remove all the equipment. I want a credit for the work since they damaged the computer with the battery acid. They refuse. They will credit back the hardware that they removed. I asked to split the difference with me. They call the police! The police show up, they understand what is going on, they say there is nothing that can be done for the merchant. I ask for the computer, the store owner refuses. His son named my partner by name when she walked in! They said they wanted to verify it was really her. By name!So... we leave without the broken unusable computer due to their incompetence. End of story.AVOID THIS PLACE.The following is hearsay and should be taken as such...A certain person that may have come there from an official organization showed up and mentioned the previous store as running scams out of it. This person wondered if it was the same people operating under a new name.Just hearsay and should be taken as nothing more than that.Oh... and a lady showed up right before us trying to get them to help with a phone that they sold to her. They refused to help her on the spot after she was referred to them by Apple. Now this lady was sobbing in tears and they showed her the door. Not the way to do business.UPDATE: They just called and were shocked that we might be upset. While telling them that their attitude was poor, service was poor, quality was poor they hung up.
Buster was awesome! Went in there with what I thought was a broken fan in my MBP. Buster took it apart and discovered it was clogged with rice. Ended up not charging me anything. Id highly recommend checkin this place out
Friendly, fast service. Fixed my broken laptop key with my replacement part. Wouldnt take any money. Good people!
Very satisfied with the service provided here. Needed my computer repaired, and they fixed it very quickly.
I gave Gala-Tec a call regarding some computer issues, they did the diagnostics free of charge. I was so impressed I went in and met the owner and they are now doing computer service work for our company. They rock.
DO NOT BRING YOUR APPLE PRODUCTS TO THIS STORE! I came in for a FREE diagnosis on my old computer and ended up leaving with a $75 charge even though no actual service was performed. The screen on my old iMac no longer worked and brought it in for what was supposed to be a FREE diagnosis. After telling me the repair would be $700 and may not even work afterwards, I clearly chose not to get it repaired. I also inquired about backing up some data and was informed it would be $75, to which I told them I would call them back the following morning to decide. I chose not to have it done, but then I went to pick up my computer, I was told I was being charged $75 for opening it up and cleaning it. By the way, it was not cleaned...my computer came back with fingerprints on the LCD screen and the same dust that was inside it, when I dropped it off.Later, after disputing this charge, they changed their answer to we took out your hard drive. I never told them to remove my hard drive. I asked if they were able to do a time machine backup via an external monitor, which they said they couldnt. This process doesnt require your hard drive to be removed, which is why I chose not to have it done. This is the equivalent to bringing your car into a shop to get a free quote on a repair and then asking what the cost of doing the brakes would be as well. Then after deciding not to go ahead with a repair or the brakes, they tell you they went ahead and took off your lug nuts, but you have to pay the entire price for a brake job, even though no work was actually done. Sounds ridiculous, right? These people are scam artists. Find somewhere else to bring your Apple products. There are plenty of other options for Apple Authorized Service providers, in the area. Honestly, save yourself the headache and bring your business elsewhere.
Great customer service!
Extrodinary service. I had a problem with my MacBook Pro. I walked in Gala-Tec and was immediately greeted by a sales associate and after explaining my problem with my MacBook, he said let me take a look. After showing him what the problem was he performed a couple of resets and I was on my way home. He explained what he did and told me their was no charge. I would definitely recommend Gala-Tec for your service needs. Staff was very friendly and very knowledgeable about Apple products. Store was well organized Apple product on display neatly arraigned. I will definitely return for all my Apple needs.
Horrible service, advice was useless. Never coming back again, and was very rude.
Apple Store for Service? Forget it.On Saturday, I brought my 2011 Macbook Pro in because it was having serious problems... not booting up. The service technician took my Mac for a test and within 5 minutes, told me the logic board was toast. He also informed me that Apple would cover this $1,000+ repair because of an specific issue affecting my machine. They received the replacement logic board on Tues (as promised) and I picked it up at 2pm and it is working like a champ. LESS THAN TWO working days in the shop. The owner, Alan Dworkin, was a hoot to chat with and possesses a wealth of knowledge - he has been an Apple guy since the 80s. Gala-Tec is a family-owned business and it shows - they take pride in their knowledge, service and customer satisfaction. Why wait for a Genius somewhere else?
This is worst place. They have no idea how to fix computer. Terrible customer service.
These guys are great fast & professional Very happy !! Thank you
Owner most knowledgeable and helpful. Like all stores that are Apple-centric, prices (mostly set by Apple) on peripherals, especially cables, very high.
Really awful experience here, the worst customer experience I’ve ever had in my life. Make the trip and buy from the Apple store. All sales are final. There are no refunds and no exchanges, even of new, defective equipment. They hide this policy and will fight you to the death over it, even actively preventing you from disputing the charge, or from working with Apple to obtain a replacement.I bought a NEW Macbook Pro. Configured it a week later, the night before Christmas. It kept crashing, but then it’d work for a few hours, then crash. Troubleshoot myself for a week or two, unable to get it working right. Brought it to Gala-Tec, they said they’d reinstall the OS, which won’t affect user data. I was told the OS installation didn’t help, it needs an entirely new logic board, they need to ship it to Apple to do this. I asked them to replace it instead – I paid for a new computer, not a refurb! No, they won’t do that. I asked if Apple might replace it? They said maybe, give them a call. I asked if they would assist with that? No, he cannot work a direct exchange, and then could be on the phone for hours, whereas Apple might help me in a few minutes. But I bought it from you, not them. Sorry, call them yourself, tell me what happens.I called Apple, they would consider a replacement, but need to get to the right department for approval, they will get back to me. I called Gala-Tec to inform them of this, and they said they would hold the machine until I made a decision.Unhappy with the situation, I disputed the charge on my credit card and called Gala-Tec to inform them. A few hours later, Apple tells me they agreed to exchange for a new one, just get the old one and send it back, they’ll ship me a new one. I have 30 days to complete this, and they cannot exchange it through Gala-Tec.Suddenly, Gala-Tec changed their story and said they reinstalled the OS after deleting the user data, and now it works great! I couldn’t believe it went from needing a new logic board to working fine and told them so. I was concerned Apple wouldn’t exchange it if they documented that it’s now repaired. I went to the store, asked for the broken computer back . They refused to give me the computer, saying it was no longer mine, since I disputed the charge. They accused me of trying to get a computer for free, or getting two computers for the price of one. So now I’m a criminal? They were hostile, and extremely adversarial. I offered to drop the dispute and state in writing that I got the broken computer back. No. They required me to sign a document stating that I dropped the cc dispute, would not dispute the case ever again, and also cover their legal expenses if I did. Sign it now, or no computer for you. I refused, they snatched the document out of my hands, said ‘we’re done here’, went behind the counter, and glared angrily at me.For three months, the cc dispute went back and forth. I told them Gala-Tec did not post the ‘no refunds, all sales are final policy’ on their website or in their store, and did not inform me of it before the sale. This is required according to the Magnuson-Moss Warranty act, in order to protect the consumer. The policy is only printed in tiny, too small to read print on the bottom of the sales receipt after you’ve already paid them. In response, Gala-Tec showed them it’s printed on their ‘invoice’ (actually used as a sales receipt), then printed a makeshift piece of paper stating the policy, which they put on their counter, and took a picture of it. Also, without my authorization, they shipped the computer to Apple to have the logic board replaced! Apparently, the OS reinstallation didn’t work, after all! Sadly, the cc company sided with them- they said I agreed to the charge, and Gala-Tec have their policy and followed it.I went to get my computer and I pointed to the makeshift piece of paper (temporarily?) on the counter which states their no return policy, told them I was pretty sure that wasn’t there 3 months ago, and told them I hoped they kept that sign up. They invited me back any time. No.
Could not be more disappointed with Gala-Tec on lake st, living in Oak Park and owning my own business, I want to give as much support to the community that I can. I get nervous with 3rd party tech places, because when something goes wrong they tend to hide behind the other companies (Apple/AT&T/Samsung) or blame them why something wasnt done right. Unfortunately that was the case with Gala-Tec, not only lost the sim card to my sons phone, said Apple gave us a new phone (when the same scratches that already existed on the phone were still there). Then when on to tell I had to go and get a new card anyways - Oh when finding out it was hard to get a new one -they said the phone carrier just changed their polices and the the sim card wouldnt work anyways. Are you confused reading this ?? imagine going through it. Maybe they have a talented staff, but customer service was the worst. Went back in a handful a times with no apologies or how can we make you happy. I do not recommend this place - stay clear and you will be glad that you did.
Thank you Alan and buster !!
I just loved it
I had a friendly, professional experience. Got my cracked iPhone replaced without having to travel downtown or Oakbrook. Thank you!!
Excellent service
