The concept of the store is just mind-blowing. The ice cream is very good, and you have many options. The price is a big high but is totally worthy. I enjoy every piece of it. The place is really nice and clean (including the washroom). the stuff was friendly and helpful with my order. I think is a great place for a date or just for those who have a sweet tooth. seriously it is a must in Philadelphia.

The ice cream was very good. They give a good amount of ice cream too. The only reason I gave four stars was that the day we came the staff wasnt so friendly and a little rude. However, the place was clean compared to other ice cream shops so that was a plus.

I love the name and vibe of this place, it is so cute. But the ice cream itself is not all that great and the service is pretty bad. Theres hardly any options or variety either. Its basically just a cute spot to get a picture for Instagram.

Empty at 7pm on a rainy Saturday. Guy behind the counter was super friendly. I got the American Globs. Good balance of sweet n salty but I would have preferred my soft serve to be a bit thicker. Still tasted excellent and I would definitely recommend and go back.

Casually brilliant soft serve and shakes. Loved the salty pimp, also got a strawberry shake. Worth the trip albeit a little pricey. Still worth it though. Ice cream was so light and the shake was divine. If youre in the city and need an ice cream fix, you cant go wrong here

Loved the ice cream at Big Gay Ice Cream! It’s all soft serve here, but they also make shakes, ice cream sandwiches and lots of other treats. Had the Marcia Marshmallow soft serve and loved it, really hit the spot on a really hot day!

First visit, so I didnt know what to expect. The first item I ordered was not available, so I ordered a Dorothy ice cream cone. It was okay, but wasnt anything spectacular. Seating area was small and the atmosphere lacked the excitement and sensory experience of an ice cream parlor. Service was good, but the associates did not seem very excited to serve the customers.

A bit underwhelming. Limited flavors and we watched one of the workers stand on the counter to write something on the chalkboard then jump down and make milkshakes on the counter where her feet had been without wiping it off. It needs to actually be run by gays.

This is a fun last stop if youre in the city for the day. You cant go wrong with Golden Girls Warhol-esque pictures and unicorn t-shirts.The staff is lovely. My friend and I stopped in with my little girl. I had a dish with fig/blood orange balsamic topping, my friend had the Salty Pimp and my daughter had an Oreo milkshake. The employee behind the counter complimented my daughters spirit and gave her stickers!! We will most certainly be back. :)

Rich, thick soft serve ice cream. My favorite is American Globs. Tried the seasonal tribute to Willy Wonka--the Violet Beuregarde blubbery sundae.

I love this place. So many cool flavors. Theres this ice cream that has Dorito dust on it. Theres an ice cream sandwich that has sriracha mixed in. And the pumpkin ice cream cup is insanely good. And the apple gobbler! Im here for a Sixers game, got ice cream after, and decided I have to go tomorrow morning too.

Pretty basic ice cream place. Didnt see anything special about it. The popsicle flavor my girlfriend wanted was out of stock, you would think they could erase or cross it off the board. I thought the selection of ice cream was limited so I went with an ice cream cookie sandwich. It was...ok. The cookie part was pretty weak.

Really disappointed! Have been to the one in NYC and that was amazing! But this week they had a special called the Ded Elvis. Theyve been advertising it all week on their social media. When we got there the girl had no idea what I was talking about. She called over the manager who also had never heard of the Ded Elvis. As I was explaining what theyve been advertising all week my son pointed out that they had a big sign on the counter advertising it. So they took our order, but had no banana ice cream made. So we waited about 10mins for them to make the ice cream for the special. Finally when it was ready they served my girlfriend the wrong thing. When she told them what she ordered they disagreed with what she said. All in all it wasnt a great experience. The employees really do not like working there and make sure you know that. For the price I suggest going someplace else, but if youre ever in NYC definitely check out that location!

Ehhhhhh it wasnt really impressed, it was soft served and it pretty much taste like powdered cream and ice. The presentation was very nice, the caramel drizzle inside the ice cream was tasty. The chocolate outer shell was very thin I was expecting it to be a lot thicker. The milkshake was better than the cone, Oreo chocolate peanut butter shake. Lots of flavor, very rich and the whip cream topped it off. The price is definitely very high in comparison to other places.

I liked this place. The ice cream was smooth, but to be honest, it wasnt anything special. It was just plain old soft serve ice cream, but the toppings were good, and I think the names of the sundaes were fun. Overall, I like the big gay ice cream shop.

Its just soft serve with generous toppings. I think with the long line and the flamboyant signage we were expecting something more nuanced, but my wife and I didnt find anything particularly special about our ice cream. Also the bathroom didnt have a baby changing station.

I have been coming here since they opened. My absolute favorite ice cream place in the city. But today was a joke. Your out of four ingredients on your menu and out of milk to make milkshakes. And on top is that I paid seven dollars to have my Ice cream made wrong. The work ethic and lack of customer appreciation is poor for this establishment what happened?

ALL. THE. YES!!!! Every time I have been to Big Gay Ice Cream I have enjoyed every minute and everything I have tried! From the music they play (XANADU!!) to the decor on the walls (Warhol-style renderings of Betty White) to the friendly and enthusiastic staff, I look forward to visiting every time Im in the area. The first time I stopped in, I tried the Salty Pimp (vanilla soft-serve with caramel, chocolate shell, and a sprinkle of sea salt), and it was quite delicious. On my second visit, I discovered that free dip and sprinkles were an option with any soft serve flavor! On that note, I usually end up getting soft serve with chocolate dip and rainbow sprinkles, but next time, I think Ill try something new.

Was very excited to go to Big Gay Ice Cream but became quickly disenchanted by the customer service: to say that it was rude would actually be a compliment. The young lady who was working was not only rude, but she was also incredibly condescending and patronizing. This was our first time visiting this establishment, so we naturally had questions, which were met with a level of condescension I have never in my life experienced. I had noticed other reviews about the poor customer service and thought, It cant be that bad-why would people not go there just because of that? Now I see why...it isnt just bad customer service...it is actually degrading customer service. I would not recommend it. We left this place and went to another ice cream shop that had very friendly, engaging customer service and excellent ice cream.

I should start by saying I dont usually go for soft scoop ice cream but in this case me and my girlfriend tried it due to reviews and found it OK, nice and smooth. However my average review is due to the unfriendly service we received when visiting around 9pm. Not sure if its because it was late but the person serving us didnt really seem interested, was quite rude when we asked a question and they just pointed to the slightly confusing board (there was no line so dont get why a simple explanation couldnt be provided). Also it states we could get free sprinkles but they were all wrapped up and covered, and we werent offered any. Wont be recommending this place other than to someone really keen on soft scoop I guess.

What decision here, three ice cream Sundays one was decent. one was not good and the other was fine. The soft serve quality and taste was underwhelming however the quality and uniqueness of the toppings carried the day. We arrived at least an hour before closing and unfortunately they were already at it with cream and less you say the counter wasn’t the cleanest.

My first time shopping at this brand and I was excited at first . I was inspecting gay, fun, laughter and nice treats. And it was totally opt I paid 5 dollars for a cone and I could went to the market and spend 5 dollars and got better service. The south street location needs work with portion sizes, and staff need to learn how to smile and communicate with the customer. Not so gay.

Wow I thought it was good until I tried it. Rocky roadhouse, their marshmallows were so hard and dry I had to drink almost a gallon of orange juice. Also their shakes are very watery. ColdStone is better than this.

Whenever Im in town with friends that *havent* been to Big Gay Ice Cream, I bring them to Big Gay Ice Cream. Thats the only time I visit Big Gay Ice Cream. Its just a novelty place to me. I take people there for their reactions when I tell them were going to a place called Big Gay Ice Cream. Dont be fooled, the variety of ice cream here isnt anywhere near as flamboyant and colorful as its title would have you believe.The menu looks like a cookie cutter ice cream shop with nothing special. Most of the options are very basic; vanilla and chocolate in a limited variety of cones. Remember that crazy unicorn thing Starbucks had? You wont find anything like that here, and that drink beats the pants off this whole place.The decor is the most exciting thing about this spot, but it doesnt really hold up after the second visit. To make matters worse, its *expensive*, average ice cream. The staff usually look like theyd rather be anywhere else too. If youve never been there, I suggest you at least visit it once. Its not inherently bad or anything, but theres nothing special here and I really wish there was. Theres just no reason to go back a second time unless youre bringing a friend.

The staff is horrible. I was looking forward to loving this place!! If I could give a zero star review I would. They don’t even care about handing you your ice cream they make you reach for it over the counter. When I asked for a water cup they gave me 4oz not even 8oz!! They refuse to give me a second cup and said I need to purchase a full water bottle! NEVER COMING BACK

My friends and I went to Big Gay Ice Cream after dinner on Monday night. We got there 10 minutes before the parlor closed, which is not ideal, but the store appeared to be open. As we walked inside, we were immediately told the only option available was vanilla ice cream with/without sprinkles. Everything else on the menu was not available We felt badly about coming in so late because the staff had clearly cleaned and closed up most of the parlor. However, this was my friends last night in Philadelphia before moving out to Los Angeles, so we wanted to prolong the night and get ice cream during her last evening in the city. As we were ordering, the cashier was actively closing out the register, rushing us to hurry up and order. She actually said to us, You have two minutes to order until I close this drawer. We still had at least eight minutes until the place officially closed. So we ordered seven vanilla ice cream cones and paid with a credit card. The other two employees prepared the ice cream cones. We received six ice cream cones and politely told the staff we were short one ice cream cone. The cashier had told us we only paid for six cones, the register was closed, and that we could not put in another order. We offered to pay in cash, but the staff said, No, we are closed. So one of us walked out with no ice cream. The customer service was incredibly unprofessional and disappointing. The way the three employees treated us throughout our entire experience at this parlor is just unacceptable. They were extremely rude and handled the situation very poorly. My friends and I will never be returning to Big Gay Ice Cream.

Ive had much better soft serve at other places around the city, but the staff are very nice and the bourbon butterscotch sauce was excellent. That sauce would make a bumper taste good! P.S. prices are quite high.

Soft serve was mediocre. I got the rocky road and something was...tart? in it? Cant figure out what that was, but it wasnt good. I probably wouldve gone 3 stars, but the service was really rough (rude, condescending, not helpful...I think we inconvenienced her by coming in to the shop which seems like a really weird way to act in a place that sells ice cream and has a giant rainbow unicorn on the front 🤷‍♀️).We just moved to Philly, and have heard all about this place. Maybe it used to be different, but I wasnt that impressed. Probably would go back if I was with a group of friends and someone really wanted to go and just have a plain soft serve cone, but I would never suggest it.

Loved this place. Inexpensive and very good. Original way to do ice cream, two regular flavors, vanilla and chocolate, and one special one, this weeks was coconut (easily the best coconut I ever had). From those flavors they will make others, like with their housemade raspberry sauce. Delicious, fast, and great staff!

I love big gay icescream. The mermaid is simply amazing. This is the second one I went to. I am from New York and my first visit to big gay ice cream was in Greenwich village and it was amazing. This place is just as amazing.

Chill atmosphere two hours after it first opens, good amount of ice cream the shape of a fist. Very basic flavors but toppings make up for it. Pop art and a whole lot of color in the store that even a gloomy day cant beat.

Only 2 flavors; chocolate and vanilla. And, only soft serve. Chocolate is very good. $4 price tag is a little high for soft serve. Good news is the portion is large and includes jimmies and chocolate dip, if you want them.The mix comes from Ronnybrook Farms. Will have to look for its mix in other places.

Love the overall experience. Friendly staff and the decor is so original and welcoming! Very pricey for what you get though.

I love this place! Only thing I would say is that consistency of what you get varies. For example, I always get a vanilla cone with rainbow sprinkles. First time I came to BGI I got sprinkles layered into my ice cream and I was in heaven, but I have been here a few times since and haven’t gotten that even if I order the same thing. Oh well.

A really chill place for ice cream, especially after PRIDE! Service was fast and polite, and everything looked great! Definitely a great place for a quick bite of ice cream, but variety is a little small.

I stumbled upon big gay when I was in New York. Ever since then Ive wanted to visit all the ones close to me. Ive thought about the Rocky roadhouse for a year now! Yes, it is soft serve, however its super creamy. Then you get to watch them jam pack it full of extras. They have cones, cups, Popsicles, shakes.. Crazy flavors! You can buy shirts, stickers buttons etc. All the staff are super friendly and helpful. Great place for all.

I know this is a nice place because Ive been told by people I respect but today the cashier was borderline rude and unresponsive when my friend asked questions. Also as this was my first time I cant compare but it was HOT in there, like I was dripping by the time my Uber came. Whether its always hot because of the big machines or the AC is broken I dunno. My friend loved her soft serve with jimmies though. I was full and didnt try any today. Will go back to see.

If I could give this place zero stars I would. I had the worst customer service experience I have ever had at any establishment in my entire life. My boyfriend and I decided to go get ice cream together the night of Halloween and we arrived at the store at 9:30 at night 30 mins before they closed. The guy working behind the counter didn’t acknowledge us but instead starting SLAMMING everything around as he was cleaning up and stormed to the back without even looking up. We stood there for a few minutes and waited for someone to walk back out. When the same guy came back out he continued to slam around the metal bowls and utensils and began to stare at us. I asked if they were still open and he refused to respond but instead just stared at my boyfriend and me. My boyfriend then proceeded to say “she asked you a question the least you can do is respond!?” And he just stood there staring at us. We turned around to leave and walk out the door as he stood there glaring at us. Not only was it bad customer service but just insanely rude and uncalled for on a person to person level. If the man just told us that they were closed we would have walked out without any trouble at all but instead he didn’t even utter a WORD to us the entire time he was there. My boyfriend and I were so shocked that it happened that we didn’t even know what to say. I can’t believe they would hire someone like that and I will NEVER be returning. I didn’t think it would be a big deal to walk into an ice cream store 30 minutes before they closed on a busy street like south street. Absolutely unbelievable. I hope something is done about this because it looks horrible for the company.

Staff was rude, never smiled, or even asked what I wanted they just looked at me until I was ready to order. Ice cream was way too expensive for the taste. It was AWFUL. The ice cream didnt even taste real it was gross. The only two flavors they have are chocolate and vanilla. How can u run a specialty ice cream shop and have TWO flavors. Thats NOT special. The toppings were basic as well. The store was dirty and the music was so loud and obnoxious, I left with a headache. The man had a ciggarette in his ear while making my ice cream, DISGUSTING. I will NEVER go here again.
