This is one of my favorites giant eagle’s in the city of Pittsburgh. I love the cozy feel and yet large selection of specialty groceries. There is ample parking behind the store so don’t be deterred if you think there is no parking when you drive past. Definitely come in and check it out.
Three stars is me being generous. I find my experience here to be consistently uneven. Either very professional, or utterly inept. Checkers who dont know what Swiss chard or radicchio is. 40 minute waits for the pharmacy. I refuse to buy anything at all, ever, from the travesty that is the fish counter. The produce is usually good. Meats are okay. Employees are typically friendly. Its a folksy place, but no one understood how to wear their mask during the epidemic. And if you buy 15 items, they will be put in 14 blue plastic bags before you can say that you brought your own bag. Its sad.
Small supermarket but good choices and prices. The 5 for $20 on certain meats was excellent. Only 2 cashiers though. 1 for 12 items or less and 1 other. Luckily the place wasnt crowded.
Nice horn player out front.
Cmon. It is time to restart reusable bags! Staff wont bag into them, pushing folks into using plastic bags. Otherwise a fine place to shop.
Its a decent sized super market within walking distance from the Shady restaurant/trendy area.
Reasonably priced. They always have what I need.
Ive never been to a Giant Eagle here in Pennsylvania so I was shocked to see that you can get whole meals in a container for cheap, I also loved that you guys had Sarris chocolate items there!
Typical Giant Eagle with a large Kosher section downside its always so expensive so shop the sales but otherwise find alternatives
I appreciate that this giant eagle is clean and takes safety in the time of covid-19 seriously (as far as Ive seen). The layout is a little odd, perhaps since its a relatively small store. They have a good selection of kosher items but fewer options for other items than some other stores. The staff is courteous.
Very very curtious service. I was visiting from NY. Not every supermarket in NY has such nice sales help like Giant Eagle. Far from it. Good selection of food.
LOL their Italian section has pasta on one side and tomato sause on the other. Good thing thats all Italians eat! Overpriced
Enjoyed using the scan and go.
Some stuff is over priced. Some of the cashiers are snappy. Can never get the bagels I want anymore they are always out. Nobody wants plain bagels.
Store is run by mental defects. Cant seem to get all four self checkout stations running.lines are way too long. I cant tell you how many times I just put the items back on the shelf & walked out.Prices are a big RIP off. Isles are a mess.I freaking cant stand Giant Eagle. I give them a negative 5 stars. Go to Aldi, Save-A-Lot + Shop & Save. They do not even treat their employees well. Biggest sham in town.I will stay away for good.
I love the breads at this bakery.
Clean and well lit. Staff is friendly. Nice selection of kosher foods.
Store was dirty. Multiple items had expired sell- by dates, including yogurt. Many boxed items were damaged. Will not be going back.
I got in line the cashier who was hunch over at the register reading the newspaper for a minutes. He or she whatever they were never greeted me or even said a word to me at all. This is not the first time this person was rude either. But the couple behind me the cashier sure did greet them.
Good store as any other gaint eagle, staff Is really helpful(they might change when youre reading this). Doesnt have all the stuff but have most of it. So for groceries a must visit, also its on Murray Ave so many good restaurants and famous coffee shops such as Cafe mocha in that lane which are worth exploring!
Big store was a little crowded but over all nice place to grocery shop.
They have a bit of everything.
Lower selectivity, but I like that because I end up spending less time shopping
This store is small but mighty. They do the best they can with the tiny space that they have. You cannot compare this store to more bedazzling modern Giant Eagles, but know that it is a great small city supermarket that caters to a lot of neighborhood walking traffic. As a former Murray Avenue store worker, I know how long and hard the staff works each day. Thank you, Squirrel Hill Giant Eagle team for your front line service during the pandemic and always.
On the smaller side for a Giant Eagle. Also, its the only Giant Eagle that has an exclusively kosher bakery. So keep that in mind if you order something from there and you dont eat kosher (they dont use dairy, and the baked goods, in my opinion, are a bit dry). But the staff is exceptional; friendly and understanding (like if you order a cake, but didnt know that they dont use dairy).Convenient location, on Murray.
We can buy Asian foods in the Asian isle (Noodle, Korean seasoning, rice etc)
I love their bakery products. And they have like 3 or 4 different places in store with clearances. Really great dealsAnd the store is spotless.
Its GE ok
Good Apple Pie.
Good stuff! .love their kosher bakery
No fresh turmeric
Do something about the fake himeless harassing you right before yoy enter and especially after you leave.
Good groseri store
Good for the staples. Small store. Limited choices and not well stocked.
Nothing special. Typical supermarket
Ok
If you think a costumer has stolen goods please find a better process than marching him to the front of the store and emptying his pockets! Show him some dignity!! *2 28 2020 between 11p and midnight.*
I love store an people always nice an helpful good time every time
Great fresh donuts at this location!!!
Prices are too damn high but the selection ia nice. less lines than at other giant eagles
This a basic grocery store with all that you need inside. Perfect neighborhood location.
This is a tiny store but is really well stocked. My only issue is with canned kitten food. I couldnt find any at all. Otherwise its a great little store....especially if youre looking for kosher food.....this is the place
Ive been goin here since Ive lived in PGH and I absolutely live this place. Im from a small Midwestern town and I feel more at home here than at home. The only issue I ever had here was around Xmas time 2 years ago and it was because an irate customer was hollering at some young kid because he was mad that there wasnt any Xmas decorations up. Good story. Thanks!
No problems
Store was kinda dirty. Like, upkeep. Friendly staff, but not clientele. Sanitizing carts, 1 way isles, social distancing all done great. A little over priced on veggies and potted plants.
Curbside groceries is a great deal.
Great local market.
It is too much to even give this place a one star rating, but I had to. I went to this giant eagle to purchase a few small items, and when I got home I noticed that every one of them was expired and the bread was moldy, so I went back to the store to return them. I was actually more than willing to exchange those items and pick fresh items the same price. The people at the what is supposed to be customer service desk were extremely rude to me because I did not have an advantage card. The irony is that the man in front of me was returning a pair of pantyhose with no receipt simply because his wife did not want them. I asked them why they made the return to him and they told me because he comes to their store frequently. I just moved in the area and I think my being a new customer is just as important as a frequent customer. Not wanting pantyhose over moldy black and green bread that your store failed to take off the shelf???? For last minute late night purchases, you are better off to go to rite aid on Murray Avenue. And to grocery shop, there is so much variety in the area,, no one needs this hole in the wall with untrained staff. I will shop at Whole Foods like I have been and again supplement late night purchases at rite aid, they have all the basics. They did not even make a simple apology....... please train your staff on the basics, there is nothing cute about rude people.
Went in for 2 items but found others I needed for a recipe I was going to make this weekend and on sale!
Always stop here on my way up.
I go for the kosher bakery, slightly smaller then other Giant eagles
This is a cute little giant eagle. It is in the Jewish community so everything has the word kosher on it. Doesnt have the biggest selection but is perfect for where it is at. I recommend you stop by and check it out.
The employees were nice
I needed quarters to wash my clothes. There was only 1 full isle with cashier. So I went to service desk and was rudely told We dont give change after I purchased laundry products from the store😞
I dont love it. I dont hate it. I shop here out of convenience of proximity. As others mentioned, it is cramped, always busy, and lacks variety.Like all Giant Eagle locations, daily prices are above average. Just enough to make you say to yourself, Do I really want to spend THAT much on a jar of mayonnaise? Or something to that effect. Overall? Not impressed. Slightly annoyed.
Lack of vegan selections and deli service was somewhat rude.
Its nice and clean location, with plenty of cashiers, plus very fresh fruits and vegetables.
This giant eagle used to have the most friendliest stuff in cashiers recently well coming in there they have hired a few new cashiers and they are extremely rude in in the past Ive had an issue with only one person in the entire store in that would have been Nadine she has caused problems for me in along with another cashier named chyna the selection is terrible the fruits and vegetables are hit-and-miss and every time you seem to like something they take it away I understand its a small store but I think there needs to be a survey done to see what stuff will sound what stuff does it the serial selection is terrible and so is some of the sweets if their selection was better and they had the same cashiers at the beginning of the summer the store would be excellent I feel the store is going extremely downhill lately
Giant Eagle used to be a nice place to shop. However, over the past few years, their prices have steadily increased and their Market District upgrades leave a lot to be desired. Over priced beer is also available in most locations. Id rather go to a farmers market and support local organic farmers rather than see them get paid pennies while GE takes all their profits. I gave them 2 stars instead of 1 because their customer service is usually pretty good.
Very nice grocery store in the heart of Squirrel Hill on Murray Ave near Beacon St with parking lot. Store includes Kosher bakery. Store stocks many items for a smaller store. Checkout persons friendly and helpful in my experience shopping there twice. Two and a half blocks from Forbes Ave on Murray Ave. Easy walking to and from Forbes Ave, mostly level walking surface.
This Giant Eagle consistently has the worst produce. Tuesday, two days ago, the only yams were the ones wrapped in plastic, and even those had eyes which had started to mold. Today I went back and at least 80% of the spanish onions had rotten spots and I could not find a single squash worth purchasing out of the three dozen or so they had. If I have the time I will always go to Greenfield or Edgewood Town Center instead, both are clearly superior at rotating their stock.
I need staff from there to get food its there love giant eagle
Overpriced and dirty.
Terrible cake decorating
A smaller Giant Eagle with a commensurately smaller selection. (Im used to shopping at Market District stores.) Even so, with one potential exception, quite adequate for your general shopping needs. That exception would be their selection of prepared Kosher items. Being in Squirrel Hill, my Jewish friend thought I would be able to get him dinner there since Murray Avenue Kosher was closed by the time I got there. Unfortunately, that wasnt really the case. And finally, when I tried to use the mens room, almost the entire floor was one giant puddle of unknown liquid.EDIT: Ive been back 4 additional times and out of the 5 (total) visits, only ONCE has the restroom been clean enough to even be usable!
Decent prices when you use the shoppers card (free), good selection
Very nice staff. A little cramped for a Giant Eagle but besides that, its an overall pleasant enough grocery store. Bakery is always clean and the baker I dealt with was very helpful and cheery, helping me get a fresh sour dough loaf that hadnt been put on the shelves yet. Made my day.
Parking garage great during bad weather. Excellent selection. Shop early! Lunch and dinner times are crazy.
Generally fond of giant eagle but this store lacks both variety and basic items. Went there the other day and the only garlic was in a 1lb bag, most vegetables were picked over and missing, and for staples like tomato paste or whole tomatoes you had one choice. The store itself is also small so you feel cramped with a large shopping cart and constantly are in others way
Nice clean facility
Great store. They have a lot of kosher items for the local community as well as every thing else you need in a grocery .
Its close to my home. The staff is friendly, helpful, and courteous.
Certainly not a market district Giant Eagle, and no extra elements like a cafe or beer section; however you can get the essentials here and a good option for Kosher products. Overall, this Giant Eagle would have been considered one of the nicer ones a decade ago. Its layout is mostly traditional. It is clean and well stocked. The produce and bakery sections are good.No section is very expansive, with none of the perks you get at regular market district Giant Eagles, like the one in North Oakland, or the large Market District Giant Eagles, like the ones in Robinson or the South Hills
Over all good place good selection but the ales are narrow
Nice neighborhood store well lit stocked and registers were staffed to the Max
The only reason Im not giving this spot 5 stars is because of cost. I dont understand how and why this grocery store is more expensive that whole foods, trader Joes, and Costco combined! I live in close proximity to Giant Eagle and will ONLY go there if I need to pick up one or two items. The only upside is that the employees really enjoy being there and are so warm. I always leave with a smile on my face even if my receipt is puzzling lol
Was this the supermarket from mac millers music video senior skip day ???
There were no germ killing sheets to wipe cart handles.
Hi During the last few months, I was out of sorts meaning I was prescribed by a new physician, the wrong medicine for my emotional issues. After a stay in the hospital, I am now on the correct medicine and feel good. I am writing this because I gave a scathing critical review of Angie the pharmacist a few months ago.As I look back Angie was only trying to be professional, courteous, and compassionate. Angie was working this morning and I saw with my own eyes and ears that she is and has been professional, courteous and compassionate all through her tenure at Giant Eagle and with that I will continue to have my prescriptions filled in Giant Earle Squirrel Hill.
Food is freshly
Giant Eagle staff is the sweetest. But the prices are frightening. So ...ugh...love/hate.
Free parking if you are going somewhere on Murray. Just kidding, I dont think they appreciate that actually, but I know people do it. Anyway... This Giant Eagle is a busy location, but always has fast lines and fresh produce.
This is a smaller giant eagle, and it’s usually pretty busy, but the staff is great and keep the lines quick. Overall, my favorite one of the local stores.
Im not a supermarket connoisseur (thatd be my mother), but Ive always liked this location. Big but not overwhelming, decent prices, nice layout, pharmacy and bank on the premises... its a good supermarket and the one I most frequent.
Had what was needed but still had a holdover mask requirement which is not necessary.
So stressful! No one with masks on and not enough signs about one-way aisles!
This store is one of the smaller giant eagles. However, the produce section is the best among all giant eagles I have visited. Everything is fresh and does not go to waste once you have bought it. Comparing to Giant Eagle in Shadyside Market District which I also frequent regularly, this one is a lot better for shopping all the daily essentials. Service could be a bit better.
Everything was fine except for at the checkout line. I noticed the cashier asked every person in front of us for their advantage card and when it got to myself and my daughter he never asked for our card. Yes he was a white man and I am a black woman! Unfortunately racism still exist you just have to be a bigger person and Overlook these things... other than that the price was right for my food
One of the smaller GEs in the area. Still, its impressive, how much product they managed to pack in the space. Fairly good organic/healthy options and good selection of vegetables and fruit. As others pointed out, its always very congested, hence the long checkout times. Poor, bordering on rude customer service doesnt help either.
Nice store
Just another Giant Eagle. Love shopping there. Everything seems to be of high quality. A little on the pricy side, but well worth it. Then of course there are the fuel perks.
Its pretty dated. If you can drive 10 minutes to the Shadyside location instead, youll have a much better experience - better selection, more spacious. Still, this place is ok for the basics.
I go here because its close to my home and I really like having a grocery store nearby so I support them. But they are smaller and do not carry the variety of most Giant Eagles. They do carry a large selection of Kosher items and have plenty of parking in the lot behind them.
Pretty much a typical grocery store, although it is small and very busy. Prices seem slightly more expensive although there are good sales from time to time. It is open till 1AM which is nice.
Conveniently located but, small and lacking certain products that the bigger stores have and did I mention very high prices compared to Aldi ?
Its beautiful
This GE is to small...they have been there for a long time and never expanded...even the check out area is small ...very uncomfortable its so tight you cant walk around your cart while standing in line...for it to be in a high traffic area and very nice area...you would think it would be a big GE....so that mean not.much variety in food either
