I love Stumptown Coffee!! When I lived in NYC Stumptown was a go-to spot for me. So when I came into Portland for business, I knew I had to go.The staff was friendly. The vibe in the space was eclectic. My Americano was smooth and flavorful. I ordered a bacon, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich, which was delicious!! The garlic pesto was a tasty touch. If you are in the area, stop in!
Only takeout is still available.Check the number of people in the store at the entrance and let them in.The artworks hanging in the store were all nice and nice. Not only coffee beans but also bread, hats, bags, cups, etc. were on sale. The coffee I drank on this day was even better because it tasted sour.
Great coffee shop. Great atmosphere for reading or chatting. The music here is great the sound is among the best. High quality. The art on the walls is usually very great. Im glad that dine-in seating is back.
Some may be surprised to find out that Peets coffee quietly bought out/acquired Stumptown in 2015; however, it seems that their deal meant Stumptown coffee would not be sold in Peets cafes or vice versa. Acquisition notwithstanding, Stumptown is a worthwhile third-wave poster-child--that means availability of single origin beans, latte art, and manual brewing (e.g. pour overs).Although Stumptown was founded in 1999, I didnt get to try it until a few years later when I visited Portland in an almost-move scenario. Since then, Ive had a chance to sample their coffee a few times when visiting and I recently acquired their Passport Trio direct trade box. I really found the sampler pack a treat. Each variety, Ethiopia, Costa Rica, and Indonesia, was tasty and Id actually say the box is a good value overall (about 38 bucks). In addition, it would make a great gift (hint hint!). If youre in the area, put this on your short-list!
We ordered Macha Latte and Mocha, both taste really great! Neither of the drinks is too sweet and you can feel the original smell of macha and milk.
Great mocha, and I got both the Ocean roll and a chocolate chip cookie. And promptly ate them both. Well it sure seemed like the thing to do at time. Im really full.
Not your average 8am brew. After being served a cup of foamed attitude with an extra shot of superiority, we sat to enjoy our beverages but, we were not prepared for what came next. Transitioning from a nearly inaudible acoustic mix, the volume 20x increased with an onslaught of soul piercing underground synth. There was just one thought that I could fit into the music-instilled brainwave rage: do nightmares ever end? By the time I nearly answered the thought, I became assaulted by the grim reaper of sound waves. Being new to such a feeling, naturally I Shazam’ed it and was unsurprised by the title “Hell was Full” followed by “Burn the Witch”, both by Patriarchy. All in all, we survived but likely won’t be returning for fear of being swallowed by the depths of hell. Others may appreciate the vibes if heroine just doesn’t cut it for you.
Excellent service along side the extremely nice staff makes their already amazing coffee that much better.
Love this coffee shop and their roast. I love to buy their coffee beans and you can find it at a lot of different places in the country. The shop in itself is quaint and really artsy. It has an amazing vibe and Ill highly recommend. The baristas are amazing and their latte is the best. They have amazing bakery items available as well. It is a short walk from the voodoo donuts. Definitely give this a try if you are in Portland.
My sister loves this coffee shop. I find it very limited in options, poor service, and a bit pretentious. If you don’t mind waiting, three baristas ignoring you, and having a standard latte, then this is the place for you. If your sister forces you to go, then grab some voodoo donuts in the way; it makes it tolerable! ;)
Im hypoglycemic and the worker there helped me pick the best drink! It was so good even though it was sugar free and they were so quick to suggest something perfect that accommodated what I needed! It was sooo good and super cute inside too!
They didnt have whipped cream or two of the other things I asked about, and my hot chocolate didnt taste sweet at all. It was almost bitter. Also I got two drinks, both large, and one of them was in a small cup. No thank you Ill skip this place next time 👎
I couldnt find much difference in coffee but the interior. It seems that they had a recent renovation so please ignore the old photos. The new look is very simple, spacious and white which gives a feeling like Im in a gallery as you can see in the pic. It is not common to see a cafe leaving empty spaces but it was their differentiator from normal franchised cafes! The staff was freindly and you have a small selection for pastry as well.
Great coffee! I hope they open up the dining area again soon.
Absolutely bangin coffee. The summer peach latte is worth trying.
Good selection of different beans and brewing methods. Some fun sweet drinks, like the peachy keen. Less variety than e.g. Peets.
Love this place -the people AND the coffee. I could live here :-)
Stumptown is a small coffee shop with a bit of an industrial design. They have a good selection of caffeine and non-coffee options and they managed to get the temperature of my coffee perfect for immediate consumption.
A legendary US coffee roaster that I als ways wanted to visit! At first I was a little bit disappointed because they had no single origin espresso on the grinder, but their house blend was amazing and perfectly extracted: sooooooo sweet and smooth. The Kenyan filter coffee was also super delicious 😋 with a long lingering finish. Not to forget my morning egg 🍳 sandwich 🥪 😍.I also liked the atmosphere - nice and cosy interior with beautiful lounge sofas: sooooo comfortable 😎.
Weak coffee. Nice place to enjoy some air conditioning on a hot day.
The taste is by far the most exotic, but flavorful… to bad there aren’t more locations that brew Stumptown
Great coffee. Friendly staff. Lots of seating and very open interior design. They have some great drip coffee options to choose from. Very conveniently located to a lot of other downtown highlights. Good place to start at if you’re visiting the downtown Portland core and need a caffeine boost to jumpstart your day
Vanilla lattes are my go to, and I have to say I was not impressed. It tasted more caramel than vanilla. My husband got one as well and felt the same way so it was not a one off. The ambience was trendy and the building is spacious, but mostly left open and airy. Not a ton of seating. Baristas were friendly. Just overall didnt live up to the hype. This rating is based mostly off the drink since thats what youre paying for, and honestly it seemed a bit pricey. We got 1 large and 1 medium latte and it was 10.25.
Expensive coffee with not a lot of flavor. :/ Bummed my $6.50 latte was short on taste.
The smug attitude from the mask nazis behind the counter make the overpriced coffee taste even bitter than normal. Probably go somewhere else if you wanted to be treated like a human being.
Best chai in Portland. I would give this location 5 stars, but they are randomly closed often (in the middle of the day, on weekends, weekdays, etc) when their website and Google page say they are indeed open.
The beans look under roasted almost still green. I had a latte at this location and it was semi warm. It had a sour note that stays at the back of the tongue. The same taste with the beans. I made a cup in a French press. I normally drink full flavor to intense flavor plain black coffee. The cheap brand on the left is far superior then what I had at Stumptown. I think a good coffee can taste great plain or with flavors. This bag of Stumptown is just average. I may mix the beans with another coffee or re-roast these.
I visited these guys during a cross-country trip, so Im unsure if my experience was a one-off. The staff was polite but the latte I had just tasted like steamed milk and we were harassed by a few homeless guys who made camp right outside of their doors. Those two things aside, its a nice building and cool environment. If youre a coffee person, its worth going to. Hopefully I was just there on an off day.
I accidentally stumbled upon Stumptown Coffee. I originally went there to use the restroom. Once I came out, I decided to grab a coffee since there was only a few people in line. I didnt even know it was so famous until I told someone about it about a week later. Overall, the coffee and service was good. I will say, when I went the line was short but walked past it the next day and the line was out the door.
Some of the best coffee I’ve ever had, hands down.
These people are open. They are so kind. If you are in the area stop by and get something. Real people doing real things thank you for being care for us people that come downtown.
A bit pricy; but EXCELLENT coffee and service!
Great staff quick service!
Judging by the amount of space that is available for a coffee shop in Portland, Im impressed. The height of the building really allows for you to feel more open to the conversations that youre having with your friends. The music aligns with the atmosphere and the Barista was very chill. Im also a huge fan of the artwork and the pieces that were on the walls. Its no wonder that this coffee shop is a pearl in Portland.
4.5 stars. Staff was super friendly. Unfortunately I couldn’t go in because of COVID and there were no pour overs. Prices weren’t too expensive for specialty coffee. The drip coffee and cold brew were nice :)
Great chill out and relaxed atmosphere.. delicious teas, coffee selection and cocoa but my cocoa was colder than I would wish 😞
Great vibe, cool staff, very open floor plan, great coffee... Even the washrooms are cool.
Friendly and professional baristas. They make great suggestions, are not pushy, and their drip coffee is fantastic. Cute store front too
Trip to Portland is never complete without a visit to Stumptown Coffee Roasters. Absolute best service, despite the long lines and absolute best coffee. Highly recommend the oat latte!
Nice atmosphere for coffee stop.
No trip to Portland without a stop at my favorite
There is a hype going on about Stumptown and I just dont get it.My overall experience here was not as good as in other establishments for the following reasons:TASTE: A 20 oz. iced mocha on soy milk has a very peculiar flavor and thats my usual request, or a regular mocha. In this case, the taste was just sugar. There was so much syrup in it that I had a hard time drinking the whole thing.SERVICE: After experiencing the superb customer service from Starbucks, Dutch Brothers and Black Rock Coffee... Why settle for a lack of smile and cold service from Stumptown? If you want to work here, there are a few tables and the price is just as any other fancy coffee place.Maybe Im too pampered by other chains or maybe Stumptown believes that good coffee grains are all thats needed to succeed?
The staff was super friendly. My aunt and I stumbled across this cafe while walking around Downtown to kill some time. Also, you get a small discount on your coffee if you order in! Great way to encourage customers to not use takeout cups and save the environment :) I ordered a mocha latte and my aunt I ordered a matcha latte and both were delicious!
Great beans make awesome drinks!
Great costumer service, and tasted great. Super fast service time as well.
Quite possibly the best cold brew Ive ever had. Super friendly staff, really open and spacious spot.
Got a bag to make at home. Tastes like dirt and wet rocks after the rain.
I tried the nitro cold brew and my friend the cold brew shot. To quote her, The shot has strong citrus notes. The nitro cold brew is pretty good as well. Not too expensive for coffee but not cheap either. The store itself it quite beautiful. Somewhere you might want to spend an hour or two.
Pretty cool place.Busy.Great vibe.Friendly baristas.Cappuccino was just ok for me.Hubby liked the Nitro coffee.Free parking seems to be an issue. In fact, it seems to be all pay to park or metered parking.Better than most coffee spots.
Fantastic places! Easily rivals Starbucks, if not does much better in all categories.
The restrooms were closed and you had to wear a mask to go in even though theyve opened up service in the state for those who have been vaccinated so not my favorite.
The Hairbender is maybe the best coffee Ive ever had.
Staff is very friendly, Jason was so kind and gave us a warm welcome to the area! Coffee is limited on flavor options (if that’s what your preference is) overall a very quick and good cup of coffee.
Smooth cold brew coffee.. a must try. Would have been 5 stars except that its a little on the pricy side. Still worth going back though.
Stumptown coffee is a well-established local roaster serving specialty coffee, including their famous flavored cold brews!
Interesting place. Disappointed they didnt have any dark roast beans.
Had a friend come into town and asked me to take him here again. The place has an awesome atmosphere.
Horchata Cold Brew is the absolute best
The coffee is delicious! A great place to meet people and enjoy the nice atmosphere
