The views from this mansion are stunning! There is ample enough parking to get to the mansion, and you don’t need to wear hiking shoes to be comfortable. However, picnicking or watching the sunset overlooking the Portland skyline is such a stunning feeling, you def need to experience it yourself! Lots of loose dogs here, so be careful if that is something that bothers you.
Always a pleasure. Can be a lot of tourists but thats nice too in its own way. Home is beautiful, exterior is free to walk (tickets required, but worth it, for the house) around and see the view or take in the quality gardening. Take one of the trails instead of driving for real experience of quiet woods and beautiful views.
A Portland institution. An absolute must visit for anybody interested in the history of Portland. First time visitors need to take the tour of the mansion to see the revolutionary designs and fixtures for that time period.Has one of the best views of downtown Portland for anybody interested in landscaping photography.Even a picnic on the front lawn is encouraged for one of those nice relaxing days
The best about this place is its location and the views of Portland from the garden. The parking has to be paid (can be done by half hours if you just plan to stay short) and if you want to actually visit the mansion you have to purchase a ticket. Everything is super well maintained and clean. They have a gift store and restrooms. Enjoy the quiet place, the green lush set and of course the views (take some nice pictures!). A bit hard to find without indications!
Communication is a little shaky right now, but thats relatively understandable since they just opened back up. However, the house is beautiful, the tour is self guided and the views around the mansion are beautiful. The surrounding property is dog friendly--not the mansion itself. Cute little gift store after the tour. Lovely little hiking trail around the mansion. Pay to park required.
Once the private home of the Portland pioneer Pittock family, this 22-room house was designed by architect Edward Foulkes and completed in 1914. The mansion sits 1,000 feet above sea level on 46 acres and commands a view of five mountains in the Cascade Range. It is an outstanding architectural achievement with its eclectic design of circular rooms, combining fine plasterwork, cut and polished marbles, cast bronze, and superbly crafted hardwoods and paneling. Its progressive features included a central vacuum system, intercoms, and indirect lighting hidden in alcoves above the walls. The house is completely furnished with antique furniture and objets dart, including family artifacts, appropriate to its 17th, 18th, and 19th century French and English designs. The couple lived there with their family from 1914 until the death of Georgiana in 1918 and Henry in 1919. The house remained as a family residence until 1958. Six years later, the City of Portland purchased the estate for $225,000. It was opened to the public one year later and has remained a community landmark ever since.
Beautiful tourist attraction to stop by while in Oregon. Was a perfect day to stop by and show the kiddo the view of Oregon.
Charming mansion with lots of history abt their prominent family, as well as the evolutional of portland (from a small town to a big industrialized city).
Very cool place to check out we ended up staying about 1 1/2 hours with doing the tour and checking out the scenery. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable asked a few questions about some of the interesting finds in the house. We paid for parking at near by meters going around the mansion is free, to get in is about $12 a person be sure to get tickets in advance or they can be purchased via web page at the mansion. Very interesting seeing all the advanced things done to the house for the time it was built in.
The house is absolutely beautiful on the inside. The self-guided tour gives lots of details about the way life was at the turn of the 20th century. I went on a rainy afternoon, so I didnt get to experience the amazing views but the grounds were very well kept and nice to walk around. The basement had a separate exhibit about the city of Vanport and its history; which Id recommend checking out.
I only toured the grounds, independently, but it was gorgeous. The views of the city and the mountains were spectacular! What a peaceful, serene place to be.
Gorgeous house and beautiful view of the city.
Filled with history & a lush outdoor setting, this is a must-see for tourists
Pittock mansion is located in the heart of Portland and is such a magnificent mansion with details about the Pittock family and how the house turned into a visitor mansion
The history and the view are more than worth the ticket fee. Of course if you don’t care to tour the mansion (you’d miss out if you don’t!), but if you don’t care about that… chilling on the grounds overlooking the beauty of Oregon and Portland is worth the parking cost. Yes, you will need to pay to park unless you feel like hiking a ways.. normal city parking fees, nothing to do with the mansion.Peeking into Portland’s past was a great experience (again- repeat attender I must admit), but admiring the pure wealth and vision it took to create such a place; priceless.Definitely a tourist must see, but even for us locals it is a good place to step out of the city and into another time.
Pittock Mansion has the best view of Portland. Located on the top of a hill. The tickets to the museum is $5 but you can just walk around and enjoy the view from outside.
Amazing placeWell worth the 12 bucksTo me its like walking back into timeLove the historical vibeHeres a couple pics- out of the tons I tookJust to get ya intrested ✌🕯🕰🏰
Always a great way to spend the afternoon. The views are amazing!!!
Interesting 1 hour tour of a turn-of-the-century mansion. Beautiful views around the mansion is an added bonus.
I absolutely love this visit to the manison. I learned so much visiting this house. Especially the Vanport history.
Breathtaking panoramic view of Portland (if you catch a great day)!Pittock Mansion is on the Wildwood trail so I got to pass by it often during my runs. The trail up to the mansion is the hardest part of the trail but not overwhelmingly strenuous. The view comes as the perfect reward for the climb. The first time I came here, I was simply speechless when the view opens up to the panorama. Sunrise and sunset times are the most incredible just make sue you pick a clear day because otherwise you may not see anything at all.If you come by trail, it would take quite a while whether you come from Washington Park or Forest Park (2-3 hard miles). I have come up here walking as well, take bus 20 to Barnes Rd and then its a 15 min hike on paved roads.
Cool, self-guided tour. The staff was very helpful! Make sure to check out the view of the city behind the house!
Stunning piece of Portland history. The grounds around the Mansion are free to the public minus a small parking fee. If you want to tour the Mansion cost $8 for children and $11 for adults. The view of Portland and walking the grounds is worth the visit in of itself.
Amazing view of the Mt. Hood and the whole city. The self-guided tour was with clearly directed arrows on the floor. We learned a lot about Portland and Vanport history, which later made our next stop direct head to Portland International Raceway.
Must visit spot on your trip to Portland. You get to see the entire view of the city and Mt. Hood and the views are amazing. There are brilliant fall colors throughout the area. There are trails as well if that interests you. There is option to go inside the Mansion and take a tour! Ample of parking space and drive up to the mansion was really good! They have also banners to maintain social distancing at regular intervals.
This spot boasts one of the most breathtaking views of Portland you will ever have the pleasure of witnessing. Pro-tip: go on a clear, sunny day in the fall, and you wont be disappointed. The combination of seeing Mt. Hood and the sprawling Portland skyline surrounded by the vibrant fall foliage is absolutely amazing ❤
A beautiful place to see all of Portlands great past. Clean and vibrant with expert service. Views that are priceless. The whole thing is well done and stuck in history. Prices were very reasonable and you can visit the grounds just for great views and relaxing times for free. Parking and trails are available. Very cool place to stop in Portland if youre passing through.
Went on a windy day so it was a tad bit chilly, however the view was nice. I would recommend going on a super clear day because it’s said you can see multiple mountain’s in the distance
Great views of Portland from an elevated viewpoint. The mansion itself was closed due to COVID but we could walk around the gardens and explore the area. A must-visit if you’re in the area.
Best view and a museum that you have to go through. Fine detailed and an abundant amount of information about Portland’s history.
A lot more crowded then when we first started going but still beautiful and peaceful with plenty of walking trails and scenery to shoot. Restrooms are always full lol if you want to tour inside the mansion youll need to purchase tickets online, last time we went they were sold out. Go check it out
Striking views and a well maintained garden. Lots of great flowers and the smell was fabulous. Hiked up from Lower Macleay Park
Great view of the city and Mt. Hood. $2 for parking and the grounds are free to roam around. Worth the visit on a clear day.
SO pretty! We came across the mansion by accident, we were driving around Burnside exploring and saw the signs. Decided to drive up and it was worth it. The house and grounds were beautiful and the view of Portland and the mountains was amazing! I definitely recommend. You get some good history of the city and how it came to be, too!
Breathtaking views of Portland and an amazing historical mansion with beautiful architecture.
Had a great time at the mansion, its beautiful inside and out. Family-friendly. Bought my tickets the morning of and there were only 2 other families/groups inside so we felt very safe and distanced. The mansion has so much character, definitely recommend visiting inside. The garden area and trail outside are free to visit, parking is free also.
The tour of Pittock mention is worth going to once but the view of the skyline is worth going every single time you visit Portland. The sunrise specially is very peaceful and colorful. Although, you might encounter multiple photographers.
The Mansion is beautiful even though we arrived after it was closed for tours. The grounds are equally beautiful and fun for a stroll or hanging out on the lawn. The views of Portland, Mt. Hood, and the surrounding area are stunning.
Great mansion for a local tour
Pay a few bucks to park but the views are worth it!
10/10 they have a really cool painting of a cat in the basement plus the view is nice i guess
It was nice to see a mansion. Not all rooms are shown. It kind of gives you a creepy feeling
Absolutely breathtaking, worth the trip! Such a beautiful place and gorgeous view. Loved the trails in the woods on the same property, there is a few to enter the mansion but the hikes and views are absolutely free and I would have paid if needed to. Enjoy!
Love me some flowers.
I love this place, best view in the whole city!! Its particularly restricted with the covid safety. But still a beautiful historical place to vist.
Both the mansion and surrounding hiking trails are awesome.
Loved it grat piece of history
The Pittock Manson is history at your front door . The tour is self guided but with COVID distancing requirements. Be aware you need to buy tickets online ! They are around $9. Parking was free but crowded on a Saturday. The back areaOf the Manson is defiantly the best view of the Portland Skyline and MT Hood on a clear day.Extra Bonus, The trail head also has easy access from the parking lot.
The views of Portland are unbeatable. Hiked up here which I recommend because parking here can be a zoo.
Great views of the city that you dont need admission for.The mansion itself is pretty cool. Very unique features and cool architecture for the time it was built. The surround shower is amazing.
Due to COVID-19 capacity limits, the wait for the tickets was tough (as we didnt book online in advance). If you dont get in line 20 minutes before each half-hour increment, they likely turn you away and tell you to wait for the next half hour. This happened to us twice because the first time, we showed up right as the half hour mark passed but we didnt hover around waiting for the ticket line to start 20-ish mins before the increment. The view on the property is super nice, you can see the whole city and Mt. Hood. The inside is very lavish and you end up learning a lot about not only the family who lived there, but foundational history of Portland and a lost city called Vanport. Lots of social history of Oregon is explained including its racial origins. Overall a really enjoyable house to tour, beautiful property, and great history, just make sure to book your ticket online in advance as you will otherwise be waiting for a while as the capacity fills up really fast!
Try to get there very early in the morning before the flocks of tourists. Even better experience.
Beautiful home and views....lacked alot of the wonderful history about the family though
Beautiful sunrise spot...you have to hike from the entrance gate to the view point to get a good spot to view the sunrise...
Crazy cool find on our adventures of Downtown Portland
Well kept house and historically preserved. The only thing I wish was different was they never offered a tour guide. It would have been better for my children to hear about the mansion and it’s instead of having to read the signs.
Amazing place! The grounds are open and the inside soon :) so lovely
Such a wonderful place to visit. So much to see.
Beautiful grounds, beautiful history.
Very beautiful view of Portland and Mt. Hood. I did not go inside mansion. Flowers are stunning. If your are a photographer, you will love it.
Such a great spot to see the whole view of downtown portland
Such a jewel in the middle of the forest park. Its a must visit in the Portland Area and the house itself is amazing. The architecture is splendid with amazingly decorated rooms and interiors. The furniture was exquisite and the entire experience was magical. It was a beautiful drive as well from Portland. The rain made it even more romantic.
The grounds around the mansion are beautiful!!!
Best place in Portland. There is a nice view and you can the city from there.
Beautiful view and so peaceful a perfect place to clear your head
One of the secret gems for any engaged couple! I absolutely love coming here for any type of photography session!
Really beautiful views and the mansion was so cool to walk around. Would recommend this to any person who loves history, antiques and just the overall relaxed feeling of exploring in gorgeous scenery. Note** There are stairs and you can spend anywhere from 30ish mins to about 2 hours here.
Awesome view of Portland even if its not open to go inside that day!
This is the color that exactly represents me!!! Lively, vibrant, enthusiastic and free and this is reason why i love this place and its more fun when you travel with your aunt and Mom❤️❤️❤️
Love old homes and museums, so this was right up my alley. Especially since it is well preserved as original and not overtaken by just trying to get money from visitors. Ive been here before and will likely see again inn the future!
This was an incredible home in a breathtaking location. The detailed work that was put into this home is incredible. It is well worth the visit if you are in the area. It also has a nice gift shop as well. Be prepared to pay for parking when visiting.
Beautiful mansion and lovely grounds
Gorgeous place, worth a few hours on a rainy day - and possibly much longer on a sunny day. Amazing view of Portland, and 1.25m (approximately) trail.
Really cool place - the basement especially had a lot of information I didnt know about the area. LOVED the grounds. The views from behind the mansion are spectacular! You can see the entire city AND Mt. Hood. My 16 year old said she wanted to take over our backyard to change it to look like these grounds :-) Thanks for inspiring my kiddo!
The museum was a bit short for the price but the view from the mansion is totally worth it! Highly recommended!
Amazing view of Portland. Beautiful property.
